Werewolf by Night was a fun departure from typical Marvel fare, with a black-and-white presentation that felt inspired by Universal Monsters and Hammer Horror, but will we ever see these characters again? Nothing has been announced regarding a sequel or follow-up to Werewolf by Night, but director Michael Giacchino told Collider that he has plenty of ideas for more if and when Marvel comes calling.
“There’s always talk,” Michael Giacchino said. “But, you know, until somebody decides to spend a penny, nothing happens yet. So, hopefully. My wish is that, yes, there will be more with these characters. I would love to, and I have ideas of what I would love to do with them, and it’s all crazy and nuts, but I think that’s the only way to go about it. So, hopefully, one day. Hopefully, one day.“

"More terrifying, more gruesome, all in color." Marvel Studios has unveiled a brand new 2023 trailer for their spin-off Halloween "Special Presentation" event called Werewolf by Night. It initially debuted last year during October as a one-off, one-hour-long B&w horror film from Marvel, directed by famed composer Michael Giacchino. It's now being re-released fully in color in 2023 (as "Werewolf by Night in Color"). The special stars the wonderfully talented actor Gael García Bernal as Jack Russell, a lycanthrope superhero who fights crime using the abilities given to him by a curse brought on by his bloodline. The great cast also includes Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris, Eugenie Bondurant, & Kirk R. Thatcher. The film introduces a whole bunch of new monsters from the Marvel universe, most notably the big lovable tree monster "Man-Thing" aka "Ted". I thought it played just fine in B&w last year, but I guess I'll watch it again in color this year.

Last year, Marvel and Disney+ released the very cool creature feature Halloween special Werewolf by Night (you can read our 8/10 review Here), which was presented in black & white as a throwback to the Universal Monsters classics. They don’t have a new Halloween special for us this year, but they will be celebrating the holiday by releasing a colorized presentation of Werewolf by Night – appropriately called Werewolf by Night: In Color. This version of the special is set to begin streaming on Disney+ on October 20th, and one week out from that premiere date a trailer has arrived online to give a preview of what Werewolf by Night looks like in color. According to the promo, color makes it all more terrifying and more gruesome.
Composer Michael Giacchino directed Werewolf by Night, working from a script by Heather Quinn and Peter Cameron. The special has the following synopsis: On a dark and somber night,...

Jamie and Claire are headed back to Scotland in the second half of Outlander Season 7. But their return to the country where they fell in love won’t go as they expect, executive producer Maril Davis has said.
Jamie and Claire return to Scotland in ‘Outlander’ Season 7
The past several seasons of Outlander have followed Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) as they build their life in colonial America. But in the Season 7 Part 1 finale, the couple found themselves on a ship bound for Scotland. They’ve been tasked with returning the body of Jamie’s cousin, General Simon Fraser (Angus Macfadyen), who died at the Second Battle of Saratoga in 1777, to his native land.
In America, the Frasers had been pulled into the Revolutionary War, and the conflict disrupted their earlier plans to sail for Scotland when Jamie was conscripted into the Continental Army. There’s a sense...

One of Marvel‘s best offerings in years is returning to Disney+ this October, just in time for Halloween! The howlingly good Werewolf By Night barks at the moon again on October 20 with a colorized version of Jack Russell’s pulpy monster-filled adventure.
In addition to introducing MCU fans to Jack Russell (Gael García Bernal), Werewolf By Night features Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly), a deadly monster hunter ripped from the pages of Marvel Comics. In September of 2022, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said Jack Russell “will ultimately become quite important to the future of the MCU.” Still, with Marvel’s steaming slate under scrutiny after the studio said it’s pulling back on the reigns of streaming content, the werewolf’s future remains a mystery.
Many fans would jump at the chance for more full-moon shenanigans with Jack Russell, and Donnelly is game to return as Elsa Bloodstone, too. Speaking...

For fans of the Starz hit series “Outlander,” the time spent waiting between seasons can feel like an eternity. The sixth season concluded just over a year ago, and in that time the cast and crew have been hard at work to bring out another season of the show. We also received the bittersweet announcement at the end of March that the show’s eighth season would be its last.
Season 6 left us with a monster of a cliffhanger, with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) getting arrested and sent to prison for murder and Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Ian (John Bell) setting off on a mission to get her back. Never a dull moment for the Frasers. Thankfully, the wait is almost over. Season 7 premieres on Starz on June 16. If you at all care about Outlander‘s Jamie and/or Claire Fraser, we strongly recommend watching until the very end of the show’s new Season 7 trailer.
The nearly two-and-a-half-minute video, which Starz released Thursday, offers up plenty of weighty moments for us to fret over ahead of the season premiere. A mournful Claire sings “Ave Maria” while walking in a funeral procession. “Outlander” is giving fans a little more time before they have to say goodbye — and giving subscribers more of a reason to sign up for a full year instead of just a few months. Season 7 of the time-travel romance will air in two parts, Starz said on Wednesday, with the first half airing this year and the second half waiting for 2024.
Season 7, as previously announced, consists of 16 episodes, the show’s highest order count since Season 1. Like Season 1, which aired in 2014 and 2015, Season 7 will be split into two eight-episode bunches — the “Droughtlander” is officially over on June 16. “Outlander” has already been renewed for a final Season 8, which will consist of 10 episodes and presumably air in 2025 or later.
It is currently unclear if the show, based on Diana Gabaldon’s series of historical-fantasy romance novels, will completely adapt the entire saga. Each season of “Outlander” thus far has adapted (roughly) one...

"Werewolf by Night" really stood out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was a single hour based on the comic book character of the same name and was (sort of) a first shot across the bow for the idea of a special rather than a series or a full-length feature film. It was followed by a presentation connected to the main MCU, "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special."
Of course, Marvel has done something akin to this before in the form of 3- to 15-minute short films called One Shots that align with their features like "All Hail the King" and "Agent Carter" which went with "Iron Man 3" and "The Consultant" that was spawned by "Thor." "Werewolf by Night," however, was more in the style of holiday specials like the animated "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" from 1966 that used to air on television around Halloween.

The Nevers was cancelled and pulled from HBO Max last year, but the second half of the first (and now only) season never aired. Thankfully, fans of the series will get the chance to watch those unseen episodes as The Nevers will soon be available to stream on Tubi.
Set in Victorian London, The Nevers follows a group of people, mostly women, known as the Touched, who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities. Among them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious and quick-fisted widow, and her best friend Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant inventor. The series was created by Joss Whedon, who departed halfway through its production and was replaced by Philippa Goslett.

The Nevers is coming to Tubi today. Viewers will see all 12 episodes of the first season air in rotation on the streaming service after their initial airing. Unfortunately, they aren't available on-demand so one has to watch them "live". An ad-supported streaming service, Tubi has made a deal to also stream all seasons of cancelled HBO shows like Westworld, Raised by Wolves, and The Time Traveler’s Wife.
Production on The Nevers was shut down several times due to the pandemic. The historical sci-fi series debuted on HBO in April 2021 and aired for six episodes. The Nevers, one of the many shows pulled off HBO Max, has finally landed at its new home on Tubi, with all 12 episodes becoming available on the platform starting February 13. The episodes will release in a brief window during this time, and executive producer and showrunner Philippa Goslett divulged to TVLine some new information about six never-before-seen episodes that will premiere on Tubi the same day. The Nevers is set against the backdrop of Victorian London in August of 1896. During that time, a supernatural event rocks the city and leaves specific individuals bestowed with special abilities ranging from “wondrous to disturbing.” Their abilities are referred to as “turns,” and these gifted humans are pushed into a new underclass filled with danger. When it becomes clear this new class needs protection, widow Amalia True (Outlander‘s Laura Donnelly) and young inventor Penance Adair (Vikings‘ Ann Skelly) take it upon themselves. Put on your kilts and break out the bagpipes in mourning: “Outlander” is coming to an end. The hit Starz TV series has been renewed for an eighth and final season, the premium cable channel announced Thursday. The news comes ahead of Season 7 of the series, which will premiere in Summer 2023.
The news makes it unclear if the show, which is based Diana Gabaldon’s series of historical fantasy romance novels, will adapt the most recent installment, 2021’s “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.” Each season of “Outlander” has thus far roughly adapted one book in the series, with the upcoming seventh season set to cover 2009’s “An Echo in the Bone” and Season 8 presumably covering 2014’s “Written in My Own Heart’s Blood.” That said, Season 7 is set to have an extended 16-episode run, while Season 8 will consist of 10 episodes, so its possible that longer length can help cover all three books.

Donna Mills is set to guest star in the Jan. 17 episode of ABC’s crime series “The Rookie: Feds.”
In an episode titled “Out for Blood,” Mills plays Layla Laughlin, a famous cosmetics maven who, according to the character description from ABC, had “humble beginnings,” and “began as a single mom who made her way by developing skincare products in her kitchen.”
“The Rookie” spinoff stars Niecy Nash-Betts as Special Agent Simone Clark, Frankie R. Faison, James Lesure, Britt Robertson, Felix Solis and Kevin Zegers. Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winters co-created the series and also serve as executive producers and co-showrunners.
According to the logline for “Out for Blood,” the episode puts a spotlight on Zegers’ character: “As the unit investigates a murder victim whose body has been drained of blood, the gruesome case catches the attention of a true crime show, and Brendon shares his ‘Vampire Cop’ expertise to help solve the case.

Starz is spending next summer in Scotland. Season 7 of the channel’s smash hit series “Outlander” will premiere Summer 2023, it was announced Friday. In addition to the release period, the channel also unveiled a first look teaser for the upcoming season.
Based on Diana Gabaldon’s nine-book series of the same name, “Outlander” tells the story of Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe), a nurse living in 1945 who is transported back in time to the 18th century, where she falls in love with Highland warrior Jaime Fraser (Sam Heughan). The show follows Claire and Jamie’s relationship as they navigate the real-life Jacobite rising and other historical events of the era, before more time travel shenanigans cause them to hop freely throughout history.
Season 7 will cover the events of Gabaldon’s seventh book in the “Outlander” series, “An Echo in the Bone.” Released in 2009, the book sees Jaime and Claire continuing their adventures in the 18th century,...

In years past, a series about super-powered women from Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, would have seemed likely to do well in the ratings and to land a second season renewal. Now, Whedon's been accused of mistreating some of his actors and writers from past movies and series. Will these accusations hurt The Nevers' chances of survival? Will this HBO show be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.

HBO and HBO Max are becoming very unpredictable.
Ever since the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, there have been plenty of controversial decisions from the higher-ups at the company.
If you thought Minx was the only cancellation this week, then we have bad news.
HBO Max has split up with Love Life, canceling the romantic anthology after two seasons.
The writing had been on the wall with the lack of updates following the Season 2 finale back in November 2021.
The first season was headlined by Anna Kendrick, while the second had William Jackson Harper at the forefront.
The series has also been pulled from HBO Max, meaning there's a chance fans will never get to rewatch the series again.
Sam Boyd, the creator and co-showrunner, reflected on the cancellation on Twitter.

The work of Amalia and Penance is over. Deadline reports that both Westworld and The Nevers are leaving the HBO Max streaming service. Westworld was cancelled earlier this year after four seasons on HBO. The Nevers, which has been M.I.A. since 2021, has now also been cancelled.

Despite its recent cancellation, you would expect that a series as acclaimed as Westworld would remain on HBO Max for future viewing, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Deadline has reported that Westworld, as well as The Nevers, will be removed from HBO Max. This seems to be yet another cost-cutting measure from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, but it likely won’t sit well with fans who expect to be able to watch HBO shows on the studio’s own streaming services.
Deadline hears that both Westworld and The Nevers are “likely to resurface on other company platforms” after they are removed from HBO Max. This also marks the official cancellation of The Nevers, which aired the first half of its debut season last year. HBO Max is cleaning house again. After the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer removed over 60 titles from the platform without warning this August — many of which were originals developed for the service — a new batch of series are being prepped to be taken off in the next few days, sources have confirmed to IndieWire.
The most high-profile of these series is HBO’s “Westworld,” which was canceled this fall after falling ratings in Season 4. Other shows getting taken off include Victorian England sci-fi show “The Nevers” and rom-com anthology series “Love Life.” In a similar vein to the Lionsgate series “Minx,” the pulling of these shows effectively doubles as their cancellation announcement. According to sources, other less-high profile titles will be announced to leave the service in the next few days.
In addition, on December 9 Claudia Forestieri confirmed via Twitter that her series “Gordita Chronicles” would be taken off the platform soon.

“The Nevers” has been canceled halfway through its first season by HBO. The Joss Whedon-created sci-fi drama will be pulled from streaming on HBO Max, along with the recently canceled HBO series “Westworld,” Variety has confirmed.
The Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly-led “The Nevers,” which aired Part 1 of its first season in Spring 2021, was set to debut the back half of Season 1 next year on HBO. Sources close to the situation say it’s possible that the already finished batch of episodes — which were completed under new showrunner Philippa Goslett, who came on board following the exit of Whedon before the show even debuted — will air on another platform.
“Westworld” was canceled by HBO Nov. 4, just under three months after the series aired its Season 4 finale Aug. 14.

Exclusive: Two other original scripted series, Westworld and The Nevers, are coming off HBO Max. Unlike others that we have reported on, Lionsgate TV’s Minx and Love Life and Sony TV’s Gordita Chronicles — all comedies — Westworld and The Nevers are high-end Warner Bros. Discovery drama productions for HBO proper, and I hear they are likely to resurface on other company platforms.
Wbd CEO David Zaslav has spoken about his plan to enter the burgeoning Fast channel space, so Westworld and The Nevers would likely be offered in that form, I hear.
The removal of Westworld is a surprise as it remains one of the most recognizable HBO dramas of the last decade. The sci-fi series was recently canceled after four seasons so some of its fans may not have caught up on all episodes before it’s removed.

Last month, Marvel and Disney+ released the very cool creature feature Halloween special Werewolf by Night (you can read our 8/10 review Here). So far, there hasn’t been any word about when the characters introduced in that special – titular werewolf Jack Russell (Gael García Bernal), monster hunter’s daughter Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly), and swamp monster Man-Thing – will be returning in any future movies, specials, or series. But during an interview with The Wrap, Donnelly was enthusiastic about the idea of returning for a follow-up.
Donnelly said, “The thing that I love about this particular story for Elsa is that we get such a sense that we’re only at the beginning of something for her; she’s not introduced as the character that we know from the comics. It’s her pre-that or maybe she has been that and something has happened — we don’t know. And so it...

"Werewolf by Night" is a real departure from the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Released as "A Marvel Studios Special Presentation," the short and sweet 52-minute feature felt like a blast from the past. First-time director and acclaimed composer Michael Giacchino crafts a comic book story that feels like a love letter to the Universal Monster pictures of old. From the black and white cinematography to the "cigarette burns" on the "print" of the film, the project's aesthetic has everything you'd expect from a horror film. While it's definitely a lot more restrained than typical horror projects, there is still plenty of bloody violence that the MCU hasn't seen before. At the center of it is Elsa Bloodstone, played excellently by Laura Donnelly.
Elsa's character is the "final girl" of "Werewolf by Night," a capable hunter ostracized by the monster hunting community and her own family. Donnelly brought a snarky...

In a tonal departure for the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, Disney+’s Halloween TV special “Werewolf by Night” took viewers on a journey back to ‘30s and ‘40s era black-and-white horror B-movies, following heiress Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly) and disguised lycanthrope Jack Russell (Gael García Bernal) on a mythical quest to retrieve the coveted bloodstone that will signify a new leader among the monster-hunting troupe.
Directed by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino, who wanted the film to pay homage to movies from decades past, “Werewolf by Night” is very much a singular project that isn’t indebted to or reliant on other MCU properties.

Content warning: This article contains accounts of sexual assault, incest, and suicide as depicted in the movie "Barbarian."
"Barbarian," the new horror film written and directed by Zach Cregger and streaming now on HBO Max, stars Georgina Campbell as Tess Marshall, a young woman who books an Airbnb in Detroit to stay in during a job interview. But when she arrives, she finds another person, Keith (Bill Skarsgård), is already staying there, claiming he made a reservation on another rental site. Tess is unsettled but decides to stay there with him anyway. The film takes viewers on a terrifying (and often hilarious) journey.
"Barbarian"'s horror really begins when Tess goes down into the basement of the rental to get toilet paper, and the door locks behind her. She explores the basement and finds a secret, dark hallway. Down it, she finds a room where someone was obviously locked up.

One obvious sign that Halloween is fast approaching: More horror flicks being streamed. And that’s clearly the case right now, with a handful of scary movies, including Hulu’s “Hellraiser,” grabbing fans’ attention, according to Whip Media’s latest movie ranker — which reflects data from TV time, a TV and movie app that tracks viewer interest from 22 million global registered users.
For the second straight week, Disney+ had the two most streamed movies in the U.S. “Hocus Pocus 2,” which topped the Whip Media chart last week dropped to second place last weekend. Taking its No. 1 spot was “Werewolf by Night,” the new fantasy-horror special from Marvel that was released on Oct. 7.

Laura Donnelly grew up in Belfast, but there was one thing that set her family apart from most people they knew. "Quite unusually for growing up in Belfast in the '80s, my family was really into Halloween," she tells Popsugar. "And we always had very big Halloween parties and still do to this day - it's kind of the biggest festival in my household."
Donnelly's Auntie Paula was the official party planner, and Donnelly credits her with giving her a "big love" of Halloween. Her sister Helen was also a major horror fan, and Donnelly would watch with her. "Of course, as little sisters do, you just latch onto whatever your big sister likes," she jokes. "And she watched all the Hammer horrors and all the Universal Monster movies and all of that stuff. And I got really, really into them."

Werewolf transformations are old hat for filmmakers, but that's not to say they're easy. When George Waggner directed 1941's "The Wolf Man," he was limited to depicting Larry Talbot's (Lon Chaney Jr.) monstrous makeover by dissolving between different shots of Chaney taken at various stages in the application of his makeup. By the time John Landis made "An American Werewolf in London" 40 years later, advances in makeup and movie tech allowed the director to portray the werewolf transformation process in a far more convincing and disturbing fashion.
Wisely, "Werewolf by Night" director Michael Giacchino avoided repeating the mistakes of Joe Johnston's 2010 film "The Wolfman" (which merges CGI with practical effects to clunky results) when it was his turn to show a human changing into their lycanthrope state. Giacchino's Marvel special follows a pack of monster hunters as they gather one night to compete in a special monster hunt...

McTavish actually played Buck in a previous season.
