Realm, the largest scripted podcast network, today announced the upcoming release of America 2.0, a scripted audio drama starring Patrick J Adams (“Suits”) as an idealistic first term congressman, launching May 2.
Entangled in his first ever controversy, Seth McGuire (Adams) finds himself ill-equipped to navigate D.C.’s treachery. His only hope comes from a big idea to give every American citizen one million dollars.
Inspired by the optimistic storytelling in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and The West Wing, co-creators J S Mayank and David Carlyle wanted to put out a message of hope. “Politics is supposed to be aspirational, and yet it’s become anything but. Our cast and crew wanted to bring back high-minded, civil discourse—all while making politics entertaining again,” said Mayank.
In addition to Adams, the podcast features an extensive cast of Hollywood stars, including Emmy Award-winning and Oscar nominated actor Laurence Fishburne, Shanola Hampton...

Windhoek (Namibia), April 5 (Ians) Canada and UAE notching up impressive wins against Png and Jersey respectively on the final day of the Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off here on Wednesday.
Canada defeated Papua New Guinea (Png) by 90 runs while the United Arab Emirates beat Jersey by 66 runs.
Batting first, Canada got vital contributions from their top-order batters. Aaron Johnson stroked a 48-ball 53, while Pargat Singh continued his brilliant form in the tournament with a score of 66.
But the middle and the lower-middle order failed to contribute much, with the highest score being 28 by Saad Bin Zafar. This meant that Png were able to contain Canada to a relatively low total of 218/8 in their 50 overs. John Kariko was the pick of the bowlers for Png, registering figures of 4-45.
During the chase, Png never got going, with many of their batters failing to convert starts into big scores.

Windhoek (Namibia), March 27 (Ians) United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada overcame resilient performances from Papua New Guinea and Jersey respectively to gain their first points in the Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off and maintained their chances of advancing to the next round.
UAE survived a big scare before overcoming a spirited Papua New Guinea (Png) by 21 runs while Canada defeated Jersey by 31 runs on an enthralling second day of the competition.
An inspired Chad Soper (4-43) gave his side the dream start, extracting the maximum value with the new ball and picking four wickets in his opening spell.
UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem played a lone hand for the first 20 overs as no other batter was able to get in. The assured presence of 17-year-old Aayan Khan, however, freed up Waseem and the batter upped the ante after reaching his fifty. He hit three sixes in Charles Amini’s fifth over,...

In today’s film news roundup, MGM buys rights to the rescue movie “Thirteen Lives,” the Greenwich Film Festival has awarded its Virtual Festival Awards and digital series “Quarantine” is raising funds to help actors in need through the SAG-aftra Foundation.

MGM has bought rights to the Thai cave rescue project “Thirteen Lives,” with Ron Howard attached to direct from a William Nicholson script.
The story centers on the real story of 12 members of a soccer team and their assistant coach, who became trapped 1,000 meters underground by monsoon rains flooding Thailand’s Tham Luang cave and blocking their way out. Efforts to locate the group were hampered by rising water levels and strong currents. More than two weeks passed before all 13 of those trapped were rescued. The 2018 rescue effort involved more than 100 divers, representatives from about 100 government agencies, 900 police officers and 2,000 soldiers.

A potent blend of It Follows and Jacob's Ladder, The Black String follows convenience store clerk Jonathan (Frankie Muniz), who is plagued by a vicious rash and disturbing visions following a one-night stand with a mysterious woman from a singles hotline.
The Black String is easily one of my favorite films of the year, and with the movie now on DVD, Digital, and On Demand from Lionsgate, Daily Dead had the great pleasure of catching up with co-writer/co-star Richard Handley to discuss acting opposite Frankie Muniz, keeping the movie's horror ambiguous, teaming up with fellow military veteran Brian Hanson to help bring the film to life, and the cinematic influences behind The Black String.
Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us, Richard, and congratulations on The Black String! It’s one of my favorite films I’ve seen this year—it feels like Jacob’s Ladder meets It Follows.

Jeremy Gordon and Beth Lipari have partnered to form the new casting office Gordon-Lipari Casting, Backstage has confirmed. The pair met as associates in the office of Lisa Beach and Sarah Katzman, where they worked on projects such as “Knight and Day,” with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, and the upcoming films “We’re the Millers” and “The Wolverine.” “We were very much the same personality,” says Gordon, “and we just kind of looked at each other one day and said, ‘You know what? It's time. Let's do it.’ ” The new team is currently casting the web series “My Synthesized Life” and the film “3 Pegs,” among other projects. There is no other staff at this time, but Gordon says he’s happy to have someone with whom to share the workload. “I've been casting independent films on my own — no assistant, no associate — for many years, and it's a lot of work.

As the Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson is an important but decidedly small part of “The Avengers.” Compared with Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, the Hulk, and even Nick Fury, the Widow hasn’t received as much prior screentime or narrative attention. Making sure she doesn’t get lost on screen is important, but Johansson didn’t seem too worried when we talked to her.
“There are a lot of people to serve in that, for sure,” she told MTV News during the "We Bought a Zoo" junket. “The Widow has a great story. I think Joss did a great job of weaving together all these characters’ stories. It was no small feat for him.”
She hasn’t seen the final product -- understandable, since we’re still a while away from the movie’s summer release. Despite how much she’s figured into the movie’s promotional material,...

Jeff Mitchell on Rue McClanahanI was working on a movie for Paramount called "The Fighting Temptations," directed by Jonathan Lynn and starring Cuba Gooding Jr. We were doing the New York casting. Rue McClanahan was pitched for it by her agent. She was doing a lot of television, but she wanted to do film very badly. We had her in to meet the director, who was British and didn't know her or understand she was a huge star in the United States. Rue took the material and she did her best. We knew what the scene was about and what the director wanted, but the communication between actor and director wasn't working properly. No matter what he was asking, he wasn't getting what he wanted. The casting director has to take a back seat when the director is running the casting session. Even though I thought I could be a...
