First out of the gate, and currently playing on VOD since November 2nd, is Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes (review here). The film is directed by Corey Grant and stars Drew Rausch, Rich McDonald, Ashley Wood, Noah Weisberg, and Frank Ashmore. Look for it on DVD beginning February 5, 2013.

For anyone who doesn’t believe in ghosts and witches but wants a found footage horror film that can appeal to their curiosity or sense of fear, then Director Corey Grant’s Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes is probably more your speed. Taking the same route as Steven Spielberg’s Jaws in the belief that showing less is more, The Lost Coast Tapes tells the story of four ambitious TV producers hoping to make a hit series out of an old man in northern California who claims to have a corpse of a young Bigfoot. For the most part, The Lost Coast Tapes succeeds in its use of mysterious howls, strange happenings, and brief glimpses of gigantic hairy beasts to create a thrilling mystery as to whether or not the whole thing is real or if the old man is just scamming them out of their money. Unfortunately, it loses...

Corey Grant is an African-American director with such titles as Hip-Hop Task Force and its follow-up, Studio, on his resume. Stereotypically speaking, he's not your typical horror director.
But this fearless filmmaker recently trekked to Northern California with his crew and brought back Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes, which opens this Friday, October 19th.
"It's about a disgraced television host who was hoaxed by a fictional UFO story on a previous show, and it killed his career," Grant said in describing Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes. "Now he stages his comeback when he finds out there is a Bigfoot hunter who supposedly has an image of Bigfoot. So he figures he can do a show, but this time do it about people who pull hoaxes. Then he can bring his career back. So, of course, they travel up to Northern California to find this Bigfoot hunter, but when they get up there,...

A Bigfoot found footage film is pretty much as natural as that genre gets, and it looks like we may have a good one, in The Lost Coast Tapes. The film comes out this year, and we have two trailers, along with a couple posters and promo’s from the movie, all of which look sweet (all from Dread Central).
Corey Grant (Dysfunctional Friends) directs the film that stars Drew Rausch, Rich McDonald, Ashley Wood, Noah Weisberg, and Frank Ashmore. It was written by Brian Kelsey and Bryan O’Cain and produced by New Breed Entertainment’s Corey Grant, Chevez Frazier, and Chris Beal.

Chicago – How does one attempt to review a picture that has a 5-star opening act, a 2-star finale and several flashes of brilliance amidst a middling midsection? Are the good parts worth savoring despite the overarching flaws? In the case of Bobcat Goldthwait’s scathing yet softhearted satire on American idiocy, the answer is a resounding yes..
“God Bless America” is not as uproarious as Goldthwait’s 2006 effort, “Sleeping Dogs Lie,” nor as poignant as his 2009 Robin Williams vehicle, “World’s Greatest Dad,” but as a disgruntled liberal’s wet dream, the film is impossible to resist—at least during its first half-hour. What nearly holds the film together is the endearingly droll work from leading man Joel Murray (brother of Bill), who could easily attain cult status for this role.
Blu-ray Rating: 3.5/5.0
One of the criticisms routinely launched at this film is that it falls far short of its obvious cinematic inspiration,...

Chicago – Joel Murray, as most people know, comes from the Murray clan of Wilmette, Illinois, which includes his fellow actor brothers Brian Doyle and Bill. He has established himself as a memorable TV and movie character actor, and portrays a man gone wild in the Bobcat Goldthwait-directed “God Bless America.”
Murray is Frank, a middle aged man recently divorced, fired from his job and possibly terminally ill. With nothing much left to live for, he decides to take out his frustrations on what he considers the idiotic in society – he begins a shooting spree by targeting reality TV stars. He finds an unusual accomplice in a high school student named Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr), and together they embark on a nationwide assault on the pseudo-celebrities of America. This is Murray’s second film collaboration with director/writer Bobcat Goldthwait, having appeared in “Shakes the Clown” in 1992.

Chicago – Embarrassments both mortifying and tragic are viewed through a cathartically hilarious and disarmingly humanistic lens in the cinema of Bobcat Goldthwait. Over the last decade, the “Police Academy” star has emerged as one of the most gifted cinematic satirists in America. His comedic targets are often audaciously provocative and there’s always a wealth of sincerity within the snark.
His jaw-dropping 2003 farce “Windy City Heat” allegedly duped a talentless actor Perry Caravello into unknowingly joining a phony production that promised instant stardom. 2006’s “Sleeping Dogs Lie” charted the downward spiral of a young woman’s personal life after she came clean about her dappling in bestiality, while 2008’s “World’s Greatest Dad” featured a career-best performance from Robin Williams as a father who took advantage of a sudden tragedy to make a last-ditch attempt at happiness.
Goldthwait’s latest film is “God Bless America,” a brutally scathing indictment of America’s increasingly vapid culture.

Honestly, if I was forced to judge Summer 2012 at first glance, I would say it was pretty weak. Compared to 2011 and 2010, there's just not as many movies to look forward to. While it seems easy to write off this Summer as a dud, I have three reasons why it might actually be awesome; The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, and Prometheus. Honestly, that's all Summer 2012 needs in order to be one for the history books. Even then, there's still more than enough films to warrant your attention this summer. To help you sort through them all, we've once again compiled all the most interesting films of the season into four easy to read, informative guides. For the next four days, we'll take you on a journey through the best cinema has to offer in Summer 2012. Welcome to our Summer 2012 Movie Guide! Here's Part One, focusing entirely on the month of May.

First announced at Afm back in November comes from New Breed Entertainment and director Corey Grant, The Lost Coast Tapes, starring Drew Rausch, Ashley Wood, Rich McDonald, Frank Ashmore and Noah Weisberg. "A cynical investigative journalist and his documentary team travel to a remote cabin to debunk a Cryptozoologist's claim of finding a dead Bigfoot, but their film quickly becomes a record of their life and battle against an unseen horror." The first piece of art was pretty impressive, reminding me of the one sheet for Frozen and Open Water. A second has just debuted. Keep up with the film on Facebook.

When Paranormal Activity 3 scares up nearly $54 million at the box office in a weekend, you know that the found footage phenomenon is not dying soon. A new Pov horror-thriller called The Lost Coast Tapes is currently being sold to distributors at American Film Market next week. The story follows "an investigative journalist and his group that travel to Northern California to find the legendary Sasquatch, but the footage of that trip is now all that remains." The film was directed by Corey Grant, with production already wrapped on the film. Check out the full poster below:
Here are some more details according to IMDb:
After a "Bigfoot Hunter" claims to possess the body of a dead Sasquatch, a disgraced investigative journalist stakes his comeback -- and the lives of his documentary film crew -- on proving the find to be a hoax. Obviously shit goes down once they actually find the creature.

From New Breed Entertainment and director Corey Grant comes The Lost Coast Tapes, starring Drew Rausch, Ashley Wood, Rich McDonald, Frank Ashmore and Noah Weisberg. "A cynical investigative journalist and his documentary team travel to a remote cabin to debunk a Cryptozoologist's claim of finding a dead Bigfoot, but their film quickly becomes a record of their life and battle against an unseen horror." The first piece of art has hit and it's pretty impressive. It reminds me of the one sheet for Frozen and Open Water. Keep up with the film on Facebook and watch for much more soon.

One title we missed that is making its American Film Market debut is Corey Grant's The Lost Coast Tapes , a found footage film playing on the Bigfoot legend. Set against the backdrop of Northern California, the film documents the found footage of a skeptical journalist who aims to prove there is no such thing as Bigfoot after someone reports they have the body of a dead Sasquatch. Drew Rausch, Ashley Wood, Rich McDonald, Frank Ashmore and Noah Weisberg star. Poster art below... Bigfoot is making a resurgence; the beast will be seen in an upcoming 3D Chinese film and Blair Witch co-helmer Eduardo Sanchez is aiming to make a new film . Visit the film's Facebook page for more.

Cinéma vérité style filmmaking and Bigfoot should go together like peanut butter and jelly! Ash and the evil dead! Jason and naked teens! It's really a wonder that anyone has yet to make an effective film focusing on the legend of the Sasquatch using this technique, but if the first poster for The Lost Coast Tapes is any indication of what's to come, one may well be on its way.

That's right, kids! Bobcat Goldthwait's latest horror film God Bless America has found itself some Stateside distribution at the Toronto International Film Festival. Hopefully this run of good fortune will also have it finding a good poster artist to erase the bad memory of its teaser one-sheet!
Deadline reports that Magnolia Pictures is closing a world rights deal for God Bless America, the Bobcat Goldthwait-directed killing spree comedy. The film premiered over the weekend in the Midnight Madness program. Magnolia will release through Magnet, and the film will be an Ultra VOD title in 2012. That means it will start as a premium VOD title, then play theatrically in at least 25 cities.
The flick stars Joel Murray, Tara Lynne Barr, Mackenzie Brooke Smith, Melinda Page Hamilton, Rich McDonald, and Guerrin Gardner.
Synopsis
Loveless, jobless and possibly terminally ill, Frank has had enough of the downward spiral of America. With nothing left to lose,...

Big news coming out of the Toronto International Film Festival today. The lineup for the documentary slate was announced earlier and now the Midnight Madness programme has also been announced. The entire list of genre films playing are listed below and personally I think this is the most exciting in the program’s history. These 10 films close each day of the festival to thousands of hardcore fans who flock out to the Ryerson Theatre each night.
“Ravenous cinephiles will devour the roster of chillers, action thrillers and pitch-black comedies that fill this year’s slate,” said Tiff Programmer Colin Geddes in a press release. “Martial arts assassins, cops and robbers, escaped lunatics and vampire ballerinas will take over Ryerson Theatre every night at midnight, and deliver the shocking and rocking experience that our loyal audience flocks to take part in, helping make these screenings so memorable.”
