Warning: this Inside No. 9 review contains spoilers.
The curse of the ninth. What could be a more fitting inspiration for one of these demonically clever stories? If it hadn’t already existed, they’d have had to invent it.
Inside No. 9’s creators Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith didn’t invent this superstition but they used it to make perhaps their most elegant story yet.
The plot was a trap, avoided. Composer Nathaniel Burnham (Eddie Marsan) had taken his own life after being haunted by a curse that struck artists upon reaching their ninth symphony. Years later, his cash-strapped widow Lillian (Natalie Dormer) ensnared piano tuner Jonah (Reece Shearsmith) to first grave-rob and then complete Nathaniel’s unfinished work, intending to sacrifice him to the fatal curse so that she could profit from the final product. Instead, Jonah turned the tables on Mrs Burnham and, in a sequence beautifully presented by director Guillem Morales,...

Chris Hemsworth is one of the most respected and well-known faces in Hollywood. Through his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as the Extraction films, he has gained a lot of attention in the film industry. Despite this, there is one fact that is undeniable; he has not been seen in many challenging roles for him as an actor.
Chris Hemsworth in Thor: The Dark World
While the characters that he played certainly require a huge level of physical dedication, his emotional range has rarely been taken out for a spin by directors. This is a fact that seems to bother the actor, as he spoke about it during a recent interview.
It would seem that there was one movie that Hemsworth thought would change his image in Hollywood. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

With "Avengers: Endgame" behind us and Chris Evans having retired from the Marvel Cinematic Universe until further notice, we can all agree that "Captain America: The First Avenger" is the best Steve Rogers solo film, right? From its character work to its action sequences and a rousing score by the legendary Alan Silvestri, director Joe Johnston's WWII adventure is a top-tier MCU movie. While it may lack the visceral melees that the Russo Brothers brought to its sequels, "The First Avenger" delivers more than enough whiz-bang thrills and Brooklyn attitude to make up the difference (that and its politics are much less confused than those of "The Winter Soldier").
Johnston's superhero picture also boasts what is still one of the McU's most distinguished casts, pairing Evans with Hayley Atwell, Tommy Lee Jones, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, and Dominic Cooper. Even Natalie Dormer, David Bradley,...

Good Omens, The Sandman, and American Gods have all been adapted for television within the past five years, each with a rather astonishing degree of accuracy and faithfulness-–certainly to the spirit, if not always the letter of the author’s most popular works. After Sherlock and Elementary do we really need another contemporary take on the world of Sherlock Holmes? For fans of everything 221B Baker Street, the answer is always yes. More than any other set of fictional characters, the world of Holmes has proven time and again to be nearly limitless in its ability to accommodate a myriad of new adaptations, sometimes with competing themes. And now, five years after CBS concluded its little Sherlock show that could, a new mainstream drama based on the famous detective stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is coming soon. Though, it doesn’t sound like Sherlock himself has been invited.
Titled Watson, the new series will star Morris Chestnut as a contemporary version of John Watson. According to Variety, the show will be “set one year after the death of Holmes at the hands of his archnemesis Moriarty.” In other words, it’s a...

South Africa’s Quizzical Pictures has commissioned eight-part crime series “Murder By The Sea.”
The series is set in Blaasgat, a fictional coastal town named after its giant blowhole. When Lennart Cato, a local man-made-good, is found dead inside a papier-mâché whale on the opening night of a new Whale Museum that he’s funding, the locals turn to town resident and retired old-school thespian Lawrence Mantooth for answers. Once famous for his 80s TV show, where he played detective Pericles van Breda, Lawrence has found that few locals see the line between actor and character and often call on him to help with their little mysteries. Now, with this crime on their doorstep, he’s viewed as the obvious person to find out whodunnit? However, the real detective in Blaasgat is the woman behind the man – Lawrence’s keenly observant wife, Dawn Mantooth-Solomon.

Featured in bits throughout the official trailer for "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is Hunter Schafer, who plays a young Capitol citizen who's also an apparent friend/confidant of young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), the guy who will one day become the tyrannical President of Panem. It's a delight for "Euphoria" fans to see Schafer here, even if her role as a Capitol citizen doesn't imply great things about her character.
But Schafer's character in the trailer doesn't seem like what we'd expect from a Capitol citizen, and that's part of why she was cast in the first place. "So many people came in and read, [but] they were thinking more of Liz Banks' Effie Trinket than they were of Tigris," director Francis Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly recently. "They're putting on this Capitol [affect], and it's just so phony. Hunter came in and did the scene, and she was so endearing and warm.

Say what you will about the legacy of "Game of Thrones," but one thing the series always understood was the power of a compelling antagonist. People don't agree on much, but hatred for Joffrey Baratheon is basically universal. The bastard king was loathed well before he chopped off Ned Stark's head because he'd already revealed himself to be a spoiled, cruel and pathetic prince. The more time we spent with him, the more our hatred grew. But villainous as he may have been, Joffrey was hardly the biggest threat to the show's protagonists. He knew basically nothing about waging war or ruling the kingdom, and wouldn't have lasted a mere millisecond on an actual battlefield. An untrained Arya Stark nearly killed him in the second episode! But there were plenty of other capable antagonists milling about.
Initially a mystery, Ramsay Bolton shared Joffrey's penchant for cruelty but had the brains to back it up.

This article contains Enola Holmes 2 spoilers.
The biggest revelation in Enola Holmes 2 isn’t just all about the post-credits scene connecting the old-school Holmes canon to Nancy Springer’s books. Yes, there is a surprising cameo at the end, one which will make all sorts of Sherlockian fans happy. But before that happens, in the movie’s big denouement, we get another very famous Sherlock Holmes character. But this time, this specific person is disguised as another character entirely.
The Enola Holmes 2 Easter Egg That Changes Everything
For most of the second Enola Holmes film, both Sherlock and Enola (Henry Cavill and Millie Bobby Brown) are battling a mystery of corruption. Enola is concerned with the very real event of the Matchgirls’ Strike of 1888 while Sherlock is after a money laundering scheme orchestrated by a mysterious villain named “Moriarty.” As we learn midway through the film, these two events are linked.

This article contains spoilers for "House of the Dragon" episode five and "Game of Thrones."
Most couples on "Game of Thrones" and its prequel series, "House of the Dragon," are pretty much doomed from the start. Life in Westeros is hard, even for its most rich and powerful, and marriages are rarely a matter of love. For Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) and Laenor Velaryon (Theo Nate), marriage is entirely political. They will unite two ancient houses and help cement political alliances, forging a new path forward with their offspring. Both of them a bit hesitant to wed because they already have romantic interests, but are able to come to an agreement that should satisfy everyone. They're surprisingly progressive in a frequently backwards world, opting for a secret open marriage that will allow Laenor to express his true feelings for the Knight of Kisses, Joffrey (Solly McLeod), while Rhaenyra can continue...

Emily Carey stars as Alicent Hightower, mother of Aegon Targaryen, in Episode 3 of House of the Dragon Season 1. Pic credit: HBO/Ollie Upton
Ever since House of the Dragon started, the biggest question being asked is who will rule after King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) dies.
At first, it seemed like his younger brother, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), would take his place. This was due to the set-up that showed Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) was the closest in line to succession to King Jaehaerys I, but because she was a girl, she was overlooked and Viserys was selected instead.
However, Daemon tends to fall on the side of the Targaryen coin that favors madness and violence, and when he mocked the death of Viserys’ firstborn son, he was banished back to the Vale. Viserys then named his daughter, Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), as his rightful heir.

Director Craig Gillespie has set a star-studded cast for his film about the madness surrounding the GameStop stock squeeze called “Dumb Money,” with Seth Rogen, Pete Davidson, Sebastian Stan and Paul Dano all set to lead the cast.
Gillespie is directing and producing the film that Black Bear International will present to buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival. Screenwriting duo Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum, who are also working on Gillespie’s upcoming “Chippendales” film, will pen the screenplay.
Based on Ben Mezrich’s book “The Antisocial Network,” “Dumb Money” tells the tale of riches won and lost overnight in the David vs. Goliath GameStop short squeeze that took Wall Street by storm in January 2021. Using the subreddit r/WallStreetBets, a group of private investors and internet trolls banded together to take down one of the biggest hedge funds on Wall Street, a move that threatened to upend the establishment.

When House of the Dragon producers first began to contemplate casting an actor to play the pivotal role of Daemon Targaryen — a mercurial and enigmatic prince — one name kept popping up.
“We were like: ‘Matt Smith would be interesting,’” recalls Miguel Sapochnik, who is showrunner on HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series along with Ryan Condal. “Then it was like, ‘We should come up with some names — Matt Smith would be interesting.’ Then later it was, ‘Well, we should probably go to Matt Smith at this point.’”
Adds Condal: “I was a big fan of The Crown, and the performance Matt put on in those two seasons told me everything you needed to know about the actor — he can disappear into those roles. Oddly, Prince Philip shares some crossover traits with Daemon.”
