NEW YORK -- ABC News said Thursday that it has promoted longtime producer Vinnie Malhotra to executive producer of weekend news content.
Malhotra will be in charge of weekend news content and production of "World News Saturday" and "World News Sunday" plus other editorial content and production on ABCNews.com and ABC News Now. He also will have the title of senior producer on "World News With Charles Gibson".
Malhotra replaces Chris Sheridan, who recently was promoted to ABCNews.com's executive producer. Malhotra reports to senior vp Paul Slavin and work closely with "World News" executive producer Jon Banner.
ABC News also named special-events producer David Reiter as senior broadcast producer of "World News Saturday" and "World News Sunday". He will continue to work in special events as the unit's senior broadcast producer as well. Reiter's appointment fills the job recently vacated by Andrew Morse, now executive producer of "Weekend Good Morning America".
Malhotra had been a senior producer of "Nightline" since June 2006 and was Peter Jennings' producer from 2002-05 on "World News Tonight". He later worked with "World News" co-anchors Elizabeth Vargas and Bob Woodruff, and he was with Woodruff when their convoy was attacked by a bomb in Iraq.
