Welcome back, Clone Club! It's been a little while since our last meeting, but it's once again our time to shine. Every "Orphan Black" fan remembers falling down that sci-fi rabbit hole back throughout the mid-2010s, gawking at the television screen as the series somehow found deeper and more labyrinthine plots to follow with every passing season. As complicated and slightly off the rails as the story could get, those of us who found ourselves on its wavelength ended up among the most passionate members of the fandom. You could commonly find us wandering the street corners and flagging down random passersby, eager to preach about the Good News of Tatiana Maslany and her frankly incredible performance(s) as various clones who couldn't possibly be more different from one another.
Now, perhaps a whole new generation of fans is about to spring up with the release of the spin-off/sequel series,...

In an amusingly meta instance of sci-fi imitating sci-fi, “Orphan Black” is getting a futuristic sequel series before anyone has time enough to miss the original. That’s either a big mistake or more of a good thing in a booming genre that could almost always do with more feminist entries.
Set in the year 2052, “Orphan Black: Echoes” stars executive producer Krysten Ritter as an amnesiac woman named Lucy who we meet unraveling the insidious impacts of a mysterious procedure she doesn’t remember having. In a classic streaming age mess-around, the IP extension comes just seven years after the Canadian cult hit became a household name in made-for-tv cloning.

According to a new article in Variety, the upcoming "Star Trek" TV movie "Section 31" includes a younger version of Rachel Garrett, a character last seen on the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Yesterday's Enterprise." Garrett will be played by actress Kacey Rohl. After some extremely nerdy number crunching, one will conclude that "Section 31" takes place in the 2320s, which is a weird timeframe. The lead character of "Section 31" is Empress Philippa Georgiou, played by Michelle Yeoh, and the last time we saw her, she had been whisked away from the year 2258 — her "homebase," as it were — and deposited in the year 3188. After encountering a sentient time portal, Georgiou was next delivered to an unspecified point in history "when the Mirror Universe and the Prime Universe were still aligned." Given what we know about "Star Trek," that could be as long ago as Ad 1799.
It seems, however, that she was deposited in the 2320s,...

Since 2017, "Star Trek" has gone through some dramatic ups and downs. The launch of "Star Trek: Discovery" that year was a clarion call for the franchise, announcing that "Star Trek" was back on TV after a 13-year hiatus. "Discovery," however, was notoriously expensive and not widely beloved. It was soon joined on CBS All Access/Paramount+ by an overwhelming glut of "Star Trek" shows, each one set at a different period in Trek history. There was a brief moment when six Trek shows were running simultaneously.
The streaming model, however, proved to be unprofitable, and Paramount has been slowly extracting all its eggs from the Trek basket in recent years. "Discovery" is about to debut its fifth and final season, "Prodigy" will likewise end after its next year, "Short Treks" is seemingly no more, and "Picard" recently drew to a close. A planned spinoff of "Discovery," called "Section 31" mutated from...

As seen in the photo above, filming has begun on "Star Trek: Section 31," a TV movie starring Michelle Yeoh as Empress Philippa Georgiou, the "evil" counterpart to the deceased Captain Philippa Georgiou. Yeoh's character appeared in multiple episodes of "Star Trek: Discovery," and exited the series when she was recruited into Section 31, the "Star Trek" equivalent of the CIA. Section 31, outfitted with badass black badges, engaged in shady dealings on Starfleet's behalf, subverting the organization's ideals when violence was needed.
A "Section 31" TV series was rumored to be in production as early as 2017 when Trekkies noticed that the call numbers of the U.S.S. Discovery were Ncc-1031. An official Yeoh-starring series was announced in 2018 and several episodes were written. Eventually, though, the series was developed into a single televised movie event.

While the big screen Star Trek franchise remains parked in development dry dock (with at least two takes on the venerable space adventures still actively jostling for attention), the TV incarnations are keeping the Federation flag flying. And as the first film spin-off, Star Trek: Section 31 starts shooting with Michelle Yeoh (full name: Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh) in the lead, the cast list is swelling. Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez and James Hiroyuki Liao have all boarded the streaming title.
Originally developed as a series, the idea was then announced as a film last April with Yeoh still aboard.
The story will see Georgiou – an alternate universe version of the Captain first seen in Star Trek: Discovery's initial episode – join a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets and faces the sins of her past.

Krysten Ritter has fallen down an all new rabbit hole in the first look at the AMC Networks’ anticipated spinoff, Orphan Black: Echoes.
The network released the minute-and-a-half trailer on Thursday during its panel for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and sees a disoriented Lucy (portrayed by Ritter) waking up to an unrecognizable near future. The original series is set in the same clone-filled universe as its critically acclaimed and fan-loved BBC America predecessor, Orphan Black, which starred Tatiana Maslany.
“What’s wrong with me?” Ritter’s Lucy can be seen asking. ”Why don’t I know who I am?”
The series is set to explore the scientific manipulation of human existence and will follow a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives while embarking on a journey that will both unravel the mystery of their identity and uncover a story of love and betrayal.

It's hard to believe that the Orphan Black franchise is staging a comeback almost seven years after its series finale.
Thankfully, it looks like Orphan Black: Echoes will fit into the franchise very well.
Krysten Ritter is known for delivering stellar performances, and we should expect more of the same in the AMC, AMC+, and BBC America sequel series, set to air in 2024.
The promo was unveiled during New York Comic Con on Thursday and showcases Ritter as Lucy, a young woman caught up in what we can only describe as a nightmare.

Over six years after the finale of “Orphan Black,” AMC has returned with a first look at the upcoming spin-off “Orphan Black: Echoes.” The teaser was released as New York Comic Con enters its first day on Thursday.
The teaser shows Krysten Ritter as a dazed Lucy asking a woman, “What’s wrong with me? Why don’t I know who I am?”
As the teaser cycles between futuristic scenes of a large city, versions of Lucy emerging from pink test tubes and past and present iterations of the character cycling through various settings, Lucy’s monologue changes. “I have to face them. We have to figure out who we are,” she says by the trailer’s end.

"Barry" is one of the best shows on HBO right now. Although the series has competed at the Primetime Emmy Awards in the comedy categories, it's hard to call "Barry" a "comedy" anymore. The dark character study of a truly demented man may have a few outrageously funny moments, but it's also very bleak in its worldview. On the plus side, it's allowed Bill Hader to show his true dramatic range, with a performance that is both terrifying and sympathetic.
"Barry" is hardly the first dark comedy about an assassin, but unlike others, it's not a show that pulls its punches. The series pokes fun at Hollywood, the theater industry, and actors' volatile and sometimes dramatic nature, but the satire doesn't detract from the gravity of the material. If anything, it makes everything else hit even harder — and there's no better example than how each of the characters have grown and changed.

After a nearly three-year gap between seasons, HBO’s “Barry” and its co-creator and star Bill Hader are back at the Emmys in a big way. The dark comedy about a hitman embarking on an acting career earned 14 Emmy nominations for the show’s third season and Hader earned his third bid for Best Comedy Actor. Hader scored back-to-back wins in this category in 2018 and 2019. This year, he competes with reigning champ Jason Sudeikis (“Ted Lasso”) and previous winner Donald Glover (“Atlanta”). Also nominated are the Emmy-winning stars of “Only Murders in the Building,” Steve Martin and Martin Short, and first-timer Nicholas Hoult (“The Great”).
Hader has submitted the third season finale “starting now” to Emmy voters. The episode opens with Barry hallucinating about his past victims. He is then asked by Sally (Sarah Goldberg) to intimidate one of Sally’s former colleagues. Their conversation is interrupted by a hit...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched “Starting Now,” the Season 3 finale of “Barry.”
Season 3 of “Barry” was the dark comedy’s darkest yet, which was achieved in no small part thanks to cinematographer Carl Herse.
“One of our big references is the Coen brothers’ balance between tragedy and comedy and how they find that line, allowing something to be meaningful but also comical and absurd at the same time,” Herse says about working with Bill Hader, who co-created the show, stars in the title role and directs many episodes, most recently including Season 3 finale “Starting Now.”
“Bill is very specific as a director. A lot of times on TV shows, you have showrunners who have a writing background but are not necessarily as visual, episodic directors who are trying to get many coverage options for the showrunners to decide what direction they want to go with,...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Barry” Season 3, Episode 8, “starting now.”]
If there’s one thing that stands out from the totality of “Barry” Season 3, it’s the idea that messiness is somehow more jarring and unsettling when it’s presented with complete control. As the life of Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) becomes an increasingly damp sand castle losing a new turret week by week, the HBO show has been laser-focused on it crumbling in his hands.
That idea crested in the Season 3 finale “starting now,” which finds each person in Barry’s inner circle lose their grip on a major part of their life. Sally (Sarah Goldberg), fresh off the disappointment of being fired and seeing her former assistant swipe her career ambitions, has fully embraced Barry’s toxic revenge plans. NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan) is holed up in an undisclosed Bolivian location, chained to an exposed pipe after being blow darted last week. And Gene (Henry Winkler) has to face his own compartmentalized guilt,...

After three seasons of barely getting away with his many crimes, Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) has finally been caught.
Season 3 of Hader and Alec Berg’s increasingly dark comedy series “Barry” ends with the title character — a reluctant hitman whose attempts to avoid the consequences of his actions have caused increasingly greater tragedies — apprehended by a Swat team, heading to jail for the murder of detective Janice Moss (Paula Newsome). That act, which has hung over the series since Season 1, initially seemed like it would get Barry in jail even sooner, when her boyfriend Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler) discovered that Barry, his student, was responsible for her death. The show, which is currently being shopped to potential distributors, comes from Angry Lunch, a new shingle recently formed by Ellin and Ted Foxman, in association with Action Park Media. Foxman and Ellin will executive produce and finance “Ramble On,” while Gary Goldman is also an EP. Jeremy Alter is producer.
Ellin created the show, which, according to its press release, will also include Sheen’s father, Martin Sheen, as well as Kimiko Glenn (“Orange is the New Black”), Bre-z (“All American”), John C. McGinley (“Scrubs”), Jamie-Lynn Sigler (“The Sopranos”), Zulay Henao, Mark Cuban, James Hiroyuki Liao...
