Ellie Goulding’s new tune, “Beating Heart,” from “Divergent,” fulfills the mandate of any song that escorts a soldier going off into battle: wanting a last moment with a loved one. In this case, the song, as the lyric video shows, serves as the the love theme for the dystopian movie’s heroine, Tris, played by Shailene Woodley, and her mentor in Dauntless, the faction she runs away to join. Her mentor/love interest, Four, is played by Theo James. The song fits in perfectly with Goulding’s other material musically, and even lyrically, in its longing for love. While “Beating Heart” was written specifically for the movie, the film also incorporates tunes from Goulding’s second album, “Halcyon.” “[We] soon found that the texture of her music and the tone of her voice perfected matched our film,” said “Divergent’s” director Neil Burger in a statement. “In many ways, Ellie...

Taylor performed her new single, ‘The Last Time,’ featuring Snow Patrol band member Gary Lightbody on the hit show. Instead of her vibrant feminine frocks, Tay sported an all-black ensemble — but was it beautiful or quite boring? Vote.
Taylor Swift wore a pair of black leggings accompanied by a tight black turtleneck that really emphasized her svelte frame, (and hugged her assets), when she performed on The X Factor UK on Nov. 3 in London. The sleek black style was in contrast from her normally colorful and feminine get-ups, but she still looked great. Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol, (who is featured in her single), wore a similar ensemble to Taylor’s. Their respective outfits were most likely kept to a minimum to accentuate the decorations on stage, which included shadowy trees and dry ice, which made the stage look like a whimsical wonderland.

With the Flash Vote gone, not only are audiences deprived of bursts of Queen at regular and inappropriate intervals during live shows, but we have absolutely no bloomin' idea who's going to be in the sing-off tonight. Could there be Deadlock drama on the horizon? We will have to wait and see.
One thing's for sure - expect performances from 2011 X Factor winners Little Mix and trouble herself, Ms Taylor Swift. Join Digital Spy from 8pm to find out who's going home.
20:57Next week, we are to expect a full orchestra, Robbie Williams and Celine Dion. But it's the End of the (Kingsland) Road for Josh, Matt, Jay, Thompson and Connor - and their busy patterned shirts.

It may be Movie Week but there'll be no Hollywood ending for one X Factor act tonight as the third contestant is sent packing.
We already know Miss Dynamix are in the sing-off (#prayformissdynamix) after coming bottom in the Flash Vote, but who will join them and face being unceremoniously thrown out into that storm everyone's talking about?
Well, probably not Sam Bailey according to you lot, but given there were more flops than blockbusters last night (we're looking at you, Callahan), we'd say quite a few of them should be practising their losing speech right now.
Join Digital Spy from 8pm as we find out who is going home. Leave your comments below, tweet us - just don't be a stranger, guys.
21:00And that's it for tonight! Thanks for reading. Next week it's Disco Week! With appearances from Nile Rodgers and Chic, Little Mix and Taylor Swift with Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol.

"Game of Thrones" may have added a batch of relative unknowns for its third season, but one face might be familiar to music fans -- Snow Patrol's lead singer Gary Lightbody.
The singer posted the photo, right, and the following message to Facebook Monday (July 23): "So I did my scene this morning for Game Of Thrones. I looked like this. Can't say much just it's no pivotal role. Fun!"
We wonder what his role entailed? And who he interacted with? It doesn't sound like it was a big part at all, but it is still really cool nonetheless. Does "Game of Thrones" need any other people to cameo?
The award-winning HBO drama returns with Season 3 in the spring of 2013.

“After seeing how well received our debut was, and still is received, we can take confidence in the fact that in this day and age, in this modern musical climate, there is barely a reason why it is not possible to control, and release your own music, off your own back. London -- There will be amazing performances and memorable scenes all over Britain this summer. And only some of them will involve medals.
Many of the world's top athletes will compete in the Olympics this summer, and there will be plenty of action away from the tracks, fields and arenas. Alongside the sporting contest is an entertainment extravaganza that will bring stars and celebrities from Paul McCartney to Brangelina to London during the Games.
Britain is organizing a banquet designed to demonstrate – as Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt put it – that "culture is to Britain what the sun is to Spain."
Culture is a $177 billion a year business in Britain, and music is one of the country's biggest exports, so it's no surprise that the Games will be accompanied by a melodic soundtrack of summer concerts.

Snow Patrol have scrapped an entire album's worth of material planned for their upcoming seventh record. Frontman Gary Lightbody revealed that he replaced the songs, recorded during sessions for 2011's Fallen Empires, with a new, more creative collection. "We recorded a second album during the Fallen Empires session. But we've scrapped that one now. The songs I've been writing recently are light years away from anything I've ever done," he told NME. "It's mind-boggling stuff. [Fallen Empires] seems to be doing really well in Europe, which is great. To be honest though, it hasn't done as well in America as we'd hoped, (more)...

Twentieth Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios have released the first trailer for the animated fantasy Epic (formerly Leaf Men) online. While the movie isn't due in theaters until next year, the studios behind Rio and the Ice Age likely want to spread awareness of their upcoming project before their latest, Ice Age: Continental Drift hits theaters in July.
Very loosely based on the children's book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs by William Joyce (who co-wrote the upcoming Rise of the Guardians), Epic is a labor of love for director Chris Wedge (Ice Age), who's been working on the movie for years.
The voice cast, includes Beyonce Knowles, Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Johnny Knoxville and Aziz Ansari, and was only announced last month. With voice-work probably still being worked out the trailer is filled almost entirely — appropriately and ominously — with the song "The Lightning Strike" from the band Snow Patrol.

Hey you guys. Did you know that there were tiny little creatures and nymphs...in the woods? Of course you did, because you probably saw FernGully and joke about it all the time with your friends. You say stuff like "Oh, that oil guy was scary" and "Avatar ripped that movie off." I would love to argue that the fairy chick was the world's first manic pixie dream girl, but I'm saving that for my thesis when I go back to grad school. It seems like a good use of money to me.
Anyway, here's the trailer for Epic, which first of all is a stupid title, and it's basically like FernGully and Avatar except it's computer animated and Beyoncé uses her voice and Aziz Ansari is in it too. And Amanda Seyfried. And Josh Hutcherson.
So basically, all you need to do to create a movie about the environment...

Well, a movie calling itself "Epic" should probably kick off with an appropriately epic trailer. While we didn't quite get that with this, the first glimpse from the Fox/Blue Sky Studios' (loose) adaptation of the William Joyce book "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs," it's still a promising-enough looking clip that draws us into a strange and magical world.
The premise of the film involves a teenage girl (played by Amanda Seyfried, who can be heard at the end of the trailer), who gets transported into the magical and miniaturized world of the leaf men. It's here that she joins a fight against some evil goblins (or something), again, the movie is very different from the children's book and we're not sure what's been retained and what's been changed or jettisoned.
"Epic" has had a really amazing production history almost as epic as anything they can put on screen.

Because you loved seeing Josh Hutcherson fight off bad guys in a forest setting for "The Hunger Games," he's going back into the woods, only this time he's animated.
The Hutch came on "Good Morning America" today to introduce the trailer for a very aptly named "Epic," the latest effort from the CGI wizards at Blue Sky Studios and director Chris Wedge, which will likely be attached to July 13's "Ice Age: Continental Drift."
Virtually dialogue-free, the trailer is set to the haunting chords of "What If This Storm Ends?," by Snow Patrol, and ushers us into an exotic fantasy world with creatures derived from leaves, dandelions and tiny warriors who ride on saddles atop hummingbirds. They're fighting a battle of good against evil with the help of a teenage girl from our world.
Of course we say "virtually" free of a dialogue, as there is a hilarious tag at...

Chicago – Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man,” “Spider-Man 2,” and “Spider-Man 3” were just released on Blu-ray to coincide with the upcoming theatrical release of Mark Webb’s reboot, “The Amazing Spider-Man,” opening in theaters on July 3, 2012. All of the Sony Bd releases are pretty standard although purists will like the consistent packaging and the chance to own them at a low price point (close to $10 at some outlets) before they’re probably repackaged again when “Amazing” hits Blu-ray in time for the holidays. None of the releases include any notable new special features (other than the inclusion of Ultraviolet and some games on the first film) but they all included a wealth of them in previous editions.

If you haven’t heard of The Coronas before, you’d be forgiven for thinking they were some cheap, knock-off cover band who played hideous renditions of songs on a Saturday night at your local. Based on their name that is, of course. Let’s face it – the name is prime beef for those who get paid to karaoke, a name that fits perfectly with the image of a cover band. You can just imagine the singer of this fictional The Coronas shouting to his minions who’re strewn on the dance-floor, tipping their alcoholic nourishment all over their afternoon-bought clothes:
‘Well, come on then, get the Corona’s in!’ as they sign off the second part of their ‘set’ with the overused, overheard and overdone Don’t Stop Believing by Journey. For those of you who’re a bit lost now,...

At one point a a number of years ago, it seemed like Snow Patrol could be the next U2, or, if not quite that lofty, the next Coldplay. The Irish/Scottish quintet’s songs covered the same anthemic, sweeping themes and were aggressively melodic and commercial. Plus, led by Gary Lightbody, they were a tremendous live act. I first saw them in 2003 at a Fader-sponsored party at a club at South by Southwest in Austin. They were awkward, Lightbody acted as if he were totally bombed, and there were only glimpses of anything more than an average talent. Fast forward to exactly...

London (AP) — There will be a retro feel at a concert to mark the start of the 2012 London Olympics, with 1980s heartthrobs Duran Duran among the headliners. Organizers said Tuesday that the band, which had hits three decades ago with songs including "Rio" and "The Reflex," will represent England at the July 27 concert in London's Hyde Park, which features acts from each of the four parts of the United Kingdom. Lead singer Simon Le Bon said the show would be "one of the highlights of the last decade for us." The other headliners are Snow Patrol from Northern...

I’m not sure about Rebecca Duvall as the star of Bombshell, but I sure am enjoying what her portrayer Uma Thurman is bringing to NBC’s Smash: Namely, a wry, unflinching look at the entitlement that can come with celebrity, and the way so many other folks feed into it.
Indeed, Rebecca’s obsession with kale and flaxseed smoothies — so glad the writers didn’t forget that little detail from last week — punctuates the whole circle of stardom that’s enveloped Marilyn the Musical (as I still like to call it) and everyone involved in trying to get it to Broadway.
