The sci-fi genre has always been one of the most beloved among cinephiles as it gives us a new look at a particular technology or our world. There was a time when Max (formerly known as HBO Max) was the place for peak sci-fi shows but after taking off Westworld and Raised by Wolves from the service, and since then it has been lacking a bit regarding sci-fi shows. But still, we picked the seven best sci-fi shows that we could find on Max.

You've waited an eternity for this... Warner Bros has revealed the full official trailer for the legacy sequel titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (originally known as Beetlejuice 2), reuniting mastermind filmmaker Tim Burton with actor Michael Keaton for a long-awaited follow-up 36 (!!) years later. Who's ready for some creepy chaos again? The first Beetlejuice movie opened in 1988 (right before Burton's Batman in 1989) and ended up as a modest success and cult favorite. The sequel continues the story with the very same family. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. Michael Keaton returns as this miscreant Betelgeuse again, along with Winona Ryder back as Lydia, plus Jenna Ortega as Astrid, Catherine O'Hara, Monica Bellucci, Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, Burn Gorman, and Filipe Cates; plus Willem Dafoe...

The story of a man and a beast. This entrancing short film is titled Alberto and The Beast and it played at last year's Toronto Film Festival. After screening at festivals it's now online to enjoy - all 17 minutes of it. While working for a children's show, a wildlife researcher encounters Bigfoot in the woods. Alberto and The Beast is written and directed by John Paul Lopez-Ali, starring Bruno Kanter as Alberto. (He looks a lot like Burn Gorman.) This is also the perfect companion piece to the other Bigfoot movie arriving in theaters later this month - Sasquatch Sunset from the Zellner Brothers. Both Sunset and Alberto approach sasquatches with the same sensibilities - they're misunderstood creatures and humans shouldn't just see them as a rare phenomenon to capture on camera. I do wish there was a bit more going on with Alberto and his new friend in this short,...

"I myself am strange and unusual," Winona Ryder's goth teen Lydia Deetz proclaims in "Beetlejuice," although she could've just as easily been talking about the movie around her. Tim Burton's supernatural comedy was lightning in a bottle when it landed in 1988, a zealously idiosyncratic (and horny!) affair and a welcome remedy to the decade's consumerist mentality. Now, 36 years later (*wipes brow*), a "Beetlejuice" sequel is finally making its way to the big screen at a time when franchises and IPs may be loosening their grip just a little on the media landscape. The question is, will "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" -- as the film is now officially titled -- be part of the problem or will it mark the start of a long, long-awaited creative renaissance for Burton the director?
If you're looking for reasons to be skeptical about "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," one need only point to Burton's filmography since "Big Fish...

Michael Keaton revealed he saw a cut of the Beetlejuice sequel, adding that he can “confidently say this thing is great.”
The actor reprised his role as Beetlejuice for the upcoming movie, nearly four decades after playing the character in the 1988 Tim Burton-directed movie. Burton also returned to direct Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
During a recent interview on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Keaton described the sequel as “beautiful” visually as well as having surprisingly “emotional” parts in the storyline.
He said the movie “is beautiful, physically. The other one was so fun and exciting visually, it’s all that but really beautiful and interestingly emotional here and there. I wasn’t ready for that. It’s great.”
Keaton added, “It’s just so fun and I’ve seen it now. I’m going to see it again after a couple of little tweaks in the editing room, and I...

Michael Keaton reprised his role of Beetlejuice in the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and just revealed he saw a cut of the sequel.
During a recent interview, Keaton teased that the film’s visuals are “beautiful” and that the story is “emotional.”
“It’s just so fun and I’ve seen it now,” Keaton said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show. “I’m going to see it again after a couple of little tweaks in the editing room, and I confidently say this thing is great.”
The original Beetlejuice film was released in 1988, and almost 40 years later, Keaton rewatched it to get back into character for the sequel.
“I probably only really seen it from the beginning once or twice maybe,” he said. “So I hadn’t seen it for a long, long, long time so I did go back and look at it again.”

Michael Keaton is teasing the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice film that will open in theaters later this year. The Tim Burton film is a sequel to the 1988 horror comedy that starred Keaton in the titled role.
In a recent interview, Keaton opened up about returning to play Beetlejuice and deciding early on with Burton that he wanted to avoid relying heavily on CGI.
“The one thing that he and I decided on early, early, early on from the beginning, if we ever did it again, I was totally not interested in doing something where there was too much technology,” he told People. “It had to feel handmade.”
He continued, “What made it fun was watching somebody in the corner actually holding something up for you, to watch everybody in the shrunken head room and say, ‘Those are people under there, operating these things, trying to get it right.'”

Plot: A band of expert criminals led by Cyrus Whitaker is recruited to do what they do best — lift $500 million in gold from a passenger plane— but they must do it mid-flight at 40,000 feet!
Review: The entire plot of the Quibi/Roku series Die Hart hinges on Kevin Hart wanting to break out of comedy roles so he can be taken seriously as an action hero. While that plot was played for laughs, it was not the first time Hart tried something different. Both his films The Upside and Fatherhood, as well as the Netflix limited series True Story gave Hart more opportunities to channel his dramatic talents, but Lift is the comedian’s first project that is straight action without the reliance on his being the butt of the joke. F. Gary Gray‘s latest Netflix heist film is coming tomorrow and for the people who are excited about film Lift, CinemaBlind is here to watch and judge the upcoming film in advance for you. Starring Kevin Hart in the leading role, the film revolves around a group of master thieves whom Interpol catches at the beginning of the film, but they are offered full immunity and in turn, they will have to pull off a seemingly impossible heist.
Lift is another one of Netflix’s blockbuster cinema like what they tried to do with Ryan Reynolds‘ 6 Underground and Red Notice, but the good thing here is that it is better than both of those films but it is also nowhere near the great heist film like Ocean’s Eleven or Gary Gray’s own The Italian Job.

"Three... two... one... lift!" Netflix has unveiled the final "New Year's Day" trailer for the heist action comedy Lift, coming to Netflix to watch streaming in just a few weeks. This action thriller comedy is one of the first big releases on Netflix in 2024 (along with Society of the Snow). An international heist crew, led by Cyrus Whitaker, race to lift $500 million in gold from a passenger plane while flying at 40,000 feet. It's from the same director as The Italian Job remake and Law Abiding Citizen, so it might actually be entertaining to watch. With Kevin Hart Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D'Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Jacob Batalon, Billy Magnussen, Viveik Kalra, Yun Jee Kim, Burn Gorman, Paul Anderson, plus Jean Reno and Sam Worthington. This doesn't look that bad, but it also but doesn't look that good either, like most of the expensive Netflix movies recently. Worth a watch? Hard to tell from just the trailers.

This post contains spoilers for "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes."
At the risk of sounding as insensitive as Lucretius "Lucky" Flickerman canceling dinner plans while kids get slaughtered, I really missed The Hunger Games. "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" marks an on-screen return to the world of Panem for the first time since 2015, and the creativity and tension of author Suzanne Collins' dystopic world remains undeniable. This time around, though, the drama takes place roughly six decades before Katniss Everdeen's name got called for the fateful 74th games.
As such, the extravagant, over-the-top culture of the Capitol is still developing, but the city from which future President Snow (Tom Blyth) hails is already clearly a breeding ground for all things over-the-top and bourgeoisie. In the prequel story, The Hunger Games themselves are still in early stages, and haven't yet developed into the combination fashion show...

So what’s one of the biggest complaints about modern movies (aside from pricey concession snacks)? Much of the grumbling concerns the many sequels to successful films, often leading to a franchise. Last week we had The Marvels and there’s another Trolls romp bouncing into the multiplex this weekend. In a bit of convoluted logic, many studio execs may think, “If you’re sick of sequels, how about a prequel, instead?”. Yes, it’s semantics but it’s a way of bringing in fans of the original while not having to pay the big salaries of those older pricier casts. Now, we’ve got that “master candy maker” waiting in the wings to spruce his chocolate factory right before Christmas, and for Thanksgiving, we’re going back to that dreary dystopian future of a quartet of flicks we thought had concluded eight years ago. But since the author of...

"It's impossible." "It just hasn't been done before." Can they pull it off? Netflix has revealed the first trailer for a new heist action comedy called Lift, coming to Netflix to watch in January 2024 early next year. This trailer just debuted during a big NFL game, which means Netflix is trying to make this one of their next big hits. Does it really have that potential? An international heist crew, led by Cyrus Whitaker, race to lift $500 million in gold from a passenger plane while flying at 40,000 feet. It's from the same director as The Italian Job remake and Law Abiding Citizen, F. Gary Gray, so it might actually be pretty cool to see them pull this off. The odds of us volunteering as tributes to see the “Hunger Games” prequel? High. Even though “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” takes place long before the star-crossed love triangle of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and Gale Hawthorn (Liam Hemsworth), the Lionsgate prequel film has racked up its own set of stars. Ten years after the original adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s trilogy into four films, Panem’s past can finally come to light, along with President Snow’s.
Francis Lawrence, who directed all but the first “Hunger Games” film, returns to helm the prequel installment, which arrives just in time for Thanksgiving. Here’s everything we know about “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”:
Who’s on the Soundtrack?

"We get to sort of reinvent the world of Panem." Lionsgate has revealed an extended 5-minute featurette for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes that is called "Welcome Back to Panem." This prequel is set 64 years before Katniss voluntees as tribute. Leading up to the 10th Hunger Games, Snow mentors and develops feelings for the female District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray. We've already posted two other official trailers, both of which look good, and this adds more striking footage into the mix. In director Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 “monsters vs. mecha” film Pacific Rim (watch it Here), Idris Elba played the character of Marshal Stacker Pentecost, whose most popular scene may be when he gives a crowd-pumping speech that includes the line, “Today we are cancelling the apocalypse!” It’s a great moment that was almost played by another actor, as del Toro has revealed that Tom Cruise was the first choice to play Marshal Stacker Pentecost!
Speaking with Collider, del Toro said, “The two models for Pacific Rim, the two models for the screenplay, are Hoosiers with Gene Hackman and Top Gun. So, the part that Idris Elba plays, Tom Cruise was gonna do it, and I even had a karaoke. The deal couldn’t be made. He wanted to do it. We were developing stuff, and he couldn’t do it. I thought, ‘You know what? Let’s go with Idris Elba then.

"They're to punish the districts. Those tributes don't have a choice..." Lionsgate launched a second trailer for the prequel spin-off movie The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, also based on Suzanne Collins' other new book. It's set 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute, and decades before Coriolanus Snow became the tyrannical President of Panem. Leading up to the 10th Hunger Games, Snow mentors and develops feelings for the female District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray. So this is pretty much just Hunger Games all over again – but set in the past. It's explores the origins of this brutal ritual and how it's used as a method of control. Rachel Zegler (from Spielberg's West Side Story) stars as Lucy Gray Baird, and Tom Blyth (from "Billy the Kid") is co-starring as Coriolanus Snow. It's directed again by Francis Lawrence, who also made The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and the two Mockingjay movies.

"Welcome, welcome! Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be ever in your favor." Long before Effie Trinket greeted the coal mining citizens of District 12 and Katniss Everdeen volunteered in place of her sister for the 74th annual Hunger Games, thereby starting a revolution, there was Lucy Gray Baird. It's been nearly a decade since "The Hunger Games" film series based on Suzanne Collins' award-winning novels came to a close, but the prequel film based on "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is on its way.
It's a fitting arrival as the U.S. seemingly crumbles into a more fascist state with every passing day — making "The Hunger Games" films feel more relevant now than when they first debuted — but also because "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" focuses on the early years of Coriolanus Snow, the villainous tyrant of "The Hunger Games" played by Donald Sutherland. In 1988, Tim Burton turned the quiet village of East Corinth, Vermont into Winter River, Connecticut for Beetlejuice. 35 years later, the filmmaker returned for Beetlejuice 2. While the majority of filming took place in London, the exteriors of the original filming locations were recreated in East Corinth for two days of on-location shooting. After it wrapped, fans — myself included — flocked to the quaint town to experience Winter River in person.
Burton originally chose East Corinth after stumbling on postcards featuring scenic photos of the area while location scouting for Beetlejuice throughout New England. According to locals, the studio wanted him to recreate the necessary locations on a sound stage for Beetlejuice 2, but Burton insisted on returning to the original site.
The town hasn’t changed all that much over the years, but the production experience certainly has. While those who were around for the original Beetlejuice shooting recall the cast...

Lionsgate’s unveiled the official trailer for The Hunger Games prequel, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, seven months out from its theatrical release. The nearly three-minute trailer opens with Head Gamemaker Volumnia Gaul (Oscar winner Viola Davis) introducing the creator of the Hunger Games, Dean Cesca Highbottom (Peter Dinklage). Highbottom confirms the 10th annual Hunger Games are about to get underway and introduces the tributes chosen to fight to the death.
The trailer shows a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) and the tribute he’ll be mentoring, District 12’s Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler). We’re also treated to our first look at a young Lucky Flickerman (Jason Schwartzman), the first-ever host of the Hunger Games and an ancestor of Caesar Flickerman.
“What happens in there, fueled with the terror of becoming prey, see how quickly we become predator. See how quickly civilation disappears,” says Gaul as the Hunger Games commence.

In the near-decade since the "Hunger Games" movies signed off with "Mockingjay — Part 2" in 2015, life in the real world has gotten substantially better. Just kidding! With every passing year, Suzanne Collins' dystopian vision of the future only seems to gain new prescience. Coupled with older millennials' nostalgia for the franchise and Gen-Zers discovering just how (unfortunately) relatable the post-apocalyptic setting of Panem truly is, "The Hunger Games" is arguably more relevant than ever.
Lionsgate, in other words, couldn't have picked a more fortuitous moment to revive the brand with this year's "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." The upcoming movie is based on Collins' 2020 novel of the same name and acts as a prequel to the original "Hunger Games" tetralogy, diving deeply into the backstory for Donald Sutherland's older, Machiavellian, blood-coughing President Coriolanus Snow.
