The first film I ever shot was a documentary about French hip hop. I wasn’t exactly stressed out: riding mopeds through Paris, with a Sony Dv camera, interviewing Mc Solaar and eating Salade Nicoise. Back then, I was just happy to get an image. My co-director was just happy to secure an interview. Since then, my expectations have increased dramatically, as have the ambitions of my directors and the stories they desire to tell. With ambitious stories, comes challenging locations and production schedules. Insanity can and will ensue. What keeps the insanity still strangely entertaining is largely based on my attitude and what I pack. Here is my list of actions I take prior to...

Hip-hop dominates global taste: rapping, massive beats and the blinged-out lifestyle are staples of youth culture from Baltimore to Brighton. Brussels – the backdrop to this blog – is no exception, which is why three of Belgian rap’s biggest names have immortalized the city of frites, eurocrats and the Mannekin Pis in a reworking of Jay-z and Alicia Keys’s “Empire State Of Mind.”

It's MTV's World Cup of Rock! The World Cup is the greatest sporting event on the planet, a super-sized stage where legends are born with every strike of the ball, where infamy is just a moment away and where the dreams of millions live or die by the minute. That's why, in the spirit of the 2010 MTV Musical March Madness competition, we've created "The World Cup (Of Rock)," a FIFA-style tournament that takes 16 of the biggest nations — rock-wise (sorry Algeria) — and pits them against one another to determine just which is the most rockingly awesome. Heavyweights like the U.S.A., England, France and Germany are all here, but so are a handful of surprisingly strong sleeper countries. As the Cup progresses, we'll be unveiling the match-ups, and it's up to you to vote your favorites through. In the end, only one nation will be left standing: the world champion of rock.

I have always been a fan of Sex and the City, and would even reserve time on Sunday nights to tune in and watch the series. Paying extra for HBO while still a college student is a true commitment, but the show did tackle some lesser-spoken about relationship issues, and I am a woman after all (hear me roar, which will make more sense in a minute). I even have a number of songs featured in the show (such as “Le Belle et le Bad Boy” by Mc Solaar from in the series finale “An American Girl in Paris (Part Deux)”) in my iTunes collection.

On a tremendously tough day for Gang Starr fans, the death of the duo's Mc, Guru (real name: Keith Elam), from cancer was announced by his associate Solar early Tuesday (April 20), and included a long "farewell" letter that Solar said was written by Guru in the weeks before his death. The tone of the letter was harsh toward DJ Premier, Guru's former partner in Gang Starr.
"I do not wish my ex-dj to have anything to do with my name, likeness, events, tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this," the letter reads in part. "I had nothing to do with him in life for...
