It seemed like Winger were catching flak from all sides in the 1990s.
As the industry swiftly closed the door on hair metal in the wake of the grunge revolution, Winger became the proverbial punching bag for the metal community and the “fall guy” for a genre that had seemingly died overnight.
Famously, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich can be seen throwing darts at a pin-up of Kip Winger in the video for “Nothing Else Matters.” Then, Mike Judge plastered a Winger shirt on Stewart, the dorky neighborhood kid on Beavis and Butt-Head.
Over the years, Kip has lamented the fact that these very public anti-endorsements effectively stifled Winger’s career as a band — and cast a stigma that has scarred the legacy of the band and its members. It doesn’t help that Winger’s biggest hit, “Seventeen,” hasn’t exactly aged well in terms of political correctness.

Notable rock musician, Kip Winger, known especially for his 1998 self-titled release with his band Winger, recently talked with TV Fanatic to discuss his career, from his heady days of rock and roll fame, to his love for classical composition while promoting the Paramount+ documentary, I Wanna Rock: The ‘80s Metal Dream.
Winger’s multifaceted career offers a look inside a musician’s path, navigating the music industry's highs and lows and finding his own voice through it all.
His musical journey began with his self-taught immersion in rock. “I started out in a rock band with my brothers, and I was always a self-taught musician,” he said. Living in New York, he focused heavily on his music, working with various composers to hone his craft.
His first taste of commercial fame came in 1984 with a song for Kix, and in 1985 joined Alice Cooper’s band, where he remained for two...

If you weren’t alive in the nineties, it’s hard to do justice to just how popular Beavis and Butt-Head were. Their MTV show was cutting-edge stuff, notably, because the two Mike Judges creations often mocked the very same artists the network had only years earlier played to great success (just ask Kip Winger).
In the show, Beavis and Butt-Head’s adventures were intermingled with them providing commentary on music videos, something which would eventually be phased out as the brand grew in popularity beyond MTV. It was all part of MTV’s strategy to branch out beyond music videos, with its launch coinciding with The Real World and the start of MTV Films. The latter, of course, wanted to turn the teenaged animated phenomenon into a movie. After years of prodding, Mike Judge finally agreed to make Beavis and Butt-Head Do America. A Christmas of 1996 release, the film was a sizeable hit,...

“I had a lovely brunch with Jesus Christ.
He said, “two words about inanity: fundamental Christianity,” yeah.
The food was very nice.
But then He had to go and die for my sins and stick my ass with the check.”
Just before 2016 died a fiery death, Unshaven Comics broke bread with ComicMix Eic Mike Gold and Living Legend John Ostrander. It wasn’t our first meal together, and assuredly it’s nowhere close to the last. We met for no better reason than to share a meal and a joyous time. Little did Mike know I was going to just go ahead and record the whole evening in my mind, and use it for this week’s article. I’m coy, don’t you know.
As with many interactions with Gold, barbecue was involved. We wound up at a north suburban Chicago joint with walls adorned in celebrity photos and...

If you’re still a Dolph Ziggler fan in 2016, you’ve just sat through a year of storylines involving him being an actual home-wrecking bastard while dressed like Kip Winger’s wardrobe from 1984 threw up on him, and you still think he’s a babyface.
If you’re still a Dolph Ziggler fan in 2016, you’ve become used to disappointment, to perusing online wrestling fora for the dirt on why this latest push has been derailed, or the latest justification for why he’s being ‘buried’.
If you’re still a Dolph Ziggler fan in 2016, you’re a glutton for punishment – rather like the man himself – but I feel for you. I’ve been there. Eight years on from Nick Nemeth’s debut in the WWE under that name, there’s a lot wrong with Dolph Ziggler.
In many – well, ten – ways, I might actually hate Dolph Ziggler (kind of).
Here’s why…...

Every now and then, something comes along that is such an anomaly of pop culture that, good or bad, it deserves a certain measure of any film fan's respect. That's what makes horror such a great genre. All of the sub genres from intelligent indie horror, polished studio horror for the masses, and fun little gems like this one where you can check your sensibilities and higher standards at the door.
What if I were to say someone made a slasher flick with all the stereotypes amped way up, a score by hair metal man candy Kip Winger, and the title character played by controversial baseball star, John Rocker. Not on anyone's wish list perhaps, but then again, it's not for the pop culture gods to give you what you want, but what you need. Whether we knew it or not, we all needed...

This week, I decided to go back and check out a classic from the crypt that I missed, and thanks to Synapse Films, many of these previously lost 80’s classic are now available in wonderful quality. So let’s go back to a simpler time a time of acid wash, feathered hair, tight leather pants and heavy eye makeup - and the women didn’t look that good either. The year was 1987 and on a small Canadian farm a group of kids got together to film a $100,000 classic titled Rock N’ Roll Nightmare.
Known also as The Edge Of Hell, which incidentally the opening title sequence lists it as, Rock N’ Roll Nightmare is a heavy metal war between Heaven and Hell. Set on a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, which happens to be next to a busy highway as all exterior shots show several headlights passing within close proximity,...

Out actor/writer Stephen Fry has finally responded to a letter written by an obnoxious sixteen year-old ... named Stephen Fry. Back in 1973 the young Mr. Fry wrote a hilariously arrogant letter to his "future self" in which he basically intoned "adults stink" and generally acted like a typical sixteen-year-old:
You declared in that letter (reproduced in your 1997 autobiography Moab Is My Washpot) that "everything I feel now as an adolescent is true". You went on to affirm that if ever you dared in later life to repudiate, deny or mock your 16-year-old self it would be a lie, a traducing, treasonable lie, a crime against adolescence. "This is who I am," you wrote. "Each day that passes I grow away from my true self. Every inch I take towards adulthood is a betrayal."
The adult Stephen's response is filled with the dry wit we've come to expect. He gently mocks the obnoxious young Stephen,...
