As we’ve mentioned before in this series, horror threequels, or from any movie genre in fact, are notoriously hard to nail, in terms of quality. So, I won’t dwell for too long about which part threes have historically worked, and which should be pinned to the wall to rot like one of the Creeper’s victims. However, as we all know, dollar signs in the eyes of studio execs can be a dangerous thing, and if there’s a franchise primed and ready to be milked for all it’s worth, just one last time, those suits will make it happen. For better, or worse. Which, my dear fellow gore-hounds, brings us nicely around to a franchise that had much potential for multiple installments; Jeepers Creepers. And, yeah, I know what the title sounds like with my broad Northern England accent, so suck it up, haters. The first movie was a pleasant surprise,...

Contentious horror threequel Jeepers Creepers 3 is coming to TV a lot sooner than you think, thanks to Syfy’s ongoing 31 Days of Halloween event.
Word comes by way of Dread Central, confirming that Victor Salva’s troubled and indeed long-in-development flick will swoop onto television on Saturday, October 28th at 9pm, before Syfy stages an encore showing on Sunday, October 29th at the earlier time of 7pm.
Since Jeepers Creepers 3 was first hatched, Salva’s follow-up has become the cinematic equivalent of a hot potato. Major theaters chains quickly distanced themselves from the project, restricting Jeepers Creepers 3 to one-night-only screenings back in September.
Of course, as I’m sure you’re well aware, Victor Salva’s criminal record is the sole source of controversy, given the filmmaker was convicted for sexual misconduct with a minor more than 10 years ago. His victim, Nathan Forrest Winters, has since issued...

From Jigsaw to Leatherface to Amityville: The Awakening, this Halloween season will soon present horror fans with an embarrassment of riches as theaters across the globe begin hosting all sorts of cinematic ghosts and ghouls.
But if there’s one movie that was quietly shunned by distributors, it’s Jeepers Creepers 3 (for good reason, too, but more on that later). Yes, after years spent languishing on the brink of development, Victor Salva’s threequel faced another uphill battle when many of America’s major theater chains dropped it like a hot potato. Only a small handful of companies stood firm, leading to an exclusive one-night-only screening via Regal Theaters.
Such pent-up demand led to Jeepers Creepers 3 securing a second theatrical showing (October 4th), but other than that, the film’s distribution is about as limited as they come. Leave it to Syfy, then, to step in and secure JC3‘s TV premiere.

*before going into the review, let’s get the obvious out of the way: we at Age of the Nerd would like to take a moment to say we are fully aware of Victor Salva’s criminal history and the moral dilemma that is presented when discussing or financially supporting his movies.
The horror landscape has changed rather drastically in the sixteen years since controversy magnet Victor Salva first introduced slasher-starved audiences to “the Creeper” (Jonathan Breck) and his taste for body parts in the ‘Jeepers Creepers‘ franchise. Since then, there’s been the rise of the torture porn sub-genre and filmmakers like Eli Roth and Rob Zombie, the supernatural found footage genre, an obnoxious onslaught of inferior remakes (fingers shall be pointed specifically at The Wicker Man, When a Stranger Calls and Black Christmas) and a needed return to form thanks to filmmakers like James Wan, David Sandberg and Jennifer Kent.

Stop us if you’ve heard this one. A vaguely demonic creature emerges every 20-something years to terrorize, stalk and ultimately devour residents of a small town before returning to its slumber. Nope, we’re not talking about Pennywise, the freaky killer clown currently rocking the box office in director Andy Muschietti’s It. As horror fans will know, the same modus operandi applies just as equally to the Creeper, the boogeyman that headlined 2001 horror hit Jeepers Creepers and its 2003 sequel. Now, writer/director Victor Salva and actor Jonathan Breck – who donned the hat and trenchcoat as the Creeper in Salva’s previous two entries – aim to resurrect the character once again with Jeepers Creepers 3.
Set between its predecessors, this installment attempts to recontextualize those events while introducing new characters that have been affected by the Creeper’s rampage. While Brandon Smith reprises his role as Sergeant Tubbs from the first film,...

Unlike most other horror threequels, Jeepers Creepers 3 bucks tradition by situating its story between the events of Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2, and though it’s taken an awful long time to take flight, Victor Salva’s nightmarish vision is about to slither onto the silver screen.
But what of the franchise’s future? A Jeepers Creepers 4 has already been pitched before, when it was revealed back in May that Salva had been quietly plotting a new continuation in the Creeper saga. That’s something that series mainstay Jonathan Breck (The Creeper) echoed during an exhaustive interview with IGN, one that touched on everything from make-up and prosthetics to Salva’s criminal record. For the record: Breck is firmly of the belief that the contentious filmmaker deserves a second chance.
As for a potential fourth film, it’s not off the table:
Yeah, if we’re lucky enough to have it happen.

On the eve of release, American Zoetrope and Myriad Pictures have conjured up a trio of terrifying clips for Jeepers Creepers 3, the long-in-development horror flick that’s coming by way of Victor Salva. And therein lies the source of controversy.
Truth be told, the sequel known as Ravenous will soon face another uphill battle if it’s to really attract a mass audience. Jeepers Creepers has always been celebrated as a cult franchise with its own quirks and spooky delights, but the threequel has been a big point of contention amongst horror fans, mostly due to Salva’s heinous crime, for which he served 15 months in state prison. For the record, his victim, Nathan Forrest Winters, has since issued a statement to say that it’s really up to the audience whether they want to catch The Creeper’s resurrection on the silver screen.

The Creeper appears every twenty-three years. This time, Jeepers Creepers III takes place between the previous two films: Jeepers Creepers (2001) and Jeepers Creepers II (2003). Unbelievably, it has been fourteen years since the first sequel. This time, the Creeper (Jonathan Breck) is attacking an entire town, while a Sergeant (Brandon Smith) tries to end the curse once and for all. On September 26th, the film will have a one day theatrical showing, across the United States. Now, a movie clip is available for the film and it is self-titled "Lift Off." The clip shows more of the Creeper. He pulls up in a familiar van, at night. Meanwhile, police officials are trying to stop his latest massacre. They are outmatched as the Creeper descends from above. The film has received a restricted rating. Jeepers Creepers III has a 100 minute runtime. And, the film will be in theatres, thanks to Screen Medial Films and Fathom Events.

The Creeper is back with a bloody vengeance. A third film in the Jeepers Creepers franchise is coming. On September 26th in select cities the film will be playing up on the big screens, and from early ticket sales it looks as if fans are ready to take a look at what the Creeper has been up to.
The last time fans got a glimpse of the Creeper was all the way back in 2003. Controversial director Victor Salva wrote and directed the film. Jonathan Breck will reprise his role as the Creeper. Gina Phillips will reprise her role as Trish Jenner, from the first film. Phillips will have a cameo in the film.
The plot of the film will follow a disbelieving Sgt. Tubb’s (Brandon Smith ), who set’s up a task force to hunt the Creeper after the events of the first film. Terror ensues as the Creeper fights back.

Is there a more contentious horror film than Jeepers Creepers 3?
Victor Salva’s long-in-development threequel was first hatched in 2006, and has been dogged by production woes and setbacks ever since. And that’s before you factor Salva’s dubious past into the equation. In short: the filmmaker was accused of sexual misconduct with a minor almost two decades ago, and served 15 months in state prison. His victim, Nathan Forrest Winters, has since come out to say that it’s really up to the viewer whether they choose to support Jeepers Creepers 3. You can read his full, candid statement here.
As for the film itself, it’s now on the verge of its limited theatrical release, and an international trailer has clawed its way online to prove it. Embedded above, today brings forth an extended peek at The Creeper, which is about to begin its bloodthirsty harvest. Not unlike the Pennywise of Stephen King’s It,...

"What happened here, happened before!" Screen Media Films has unveiled a short but effective trailer for the horror sequel Jeepers Creepers III, the newest since Jeepers Creepers II hit theaters way back in 2003. Once again directed by Victor Salva, who made the first two, this one actually takes place between the first and second film. This one is about Sergeant Tubbs assembling a task force hellbent on destroying The Creeper, which is terrorizing a local farming community. The cast includes Brandon Smith, Meg Foster, Gina Philips, Carrie Lazar, Stan Shaw, Joyce Giraud, and Jonathan Breck playing The Creeper. I remember all the rage for the first two, but I'm surprised they've made a sequel now 15 years later. Anyone? I'm a big fan of the Jeepers Creepers horror franchise. The first two films were great, and a third has been in development for years. It was supposed to go into production last year, but it ended up being shut down for unknown reasons.
Bloody-Disgusting is now reporting that Jeepers Creepers 3 is in pre-production and is now set to shoot in Louisiana instead of Vancouver, Canada, which is where it was originally supposed to shoot. The site also confirms that Victor Salva is still set to direct the film, which is scheduled to begin filming next month. Here are some story details that were released:
Jeepers Creepers 3 will show events on the last day of the Creeper’s twenty-three day feeding frenzy, as the skeptical Sergent Tubbs teams up with a task force hellbent on destroying the Creeper for good. The Creeper fights back in gory glory as its enemies...

Five college students travel to a small Texas town to research the Legend of Blood Lake, an obscure folktale forged by events surrounding the massacre of a Comanche village by a company of Texas Rangers in the 1800s. Reports of people having disappeared from the area have mounted over the years, giving rise to incredible tales of evil spirits who protect a sacred cache of gold that lies beneath the surface of the lake. A crusty old bartender cautions the students to mind their own business and go back home, but they are approached by a beautiful young woman who offers to take them to the lake. It’s not long before they begin to realize...

Fact is always stranger than fiction. That statement has been a part of our popular lexicon for as long as I can remember. Even with its common use the factual nature of that statement has gone relatively unexamined. While that is not the exact purpose of Richard Linklater’s Bernie it is a welcomed side effect. In Bernie Linklater tells the story of Bernie, an eccentric funeral director that completely takes over a small Texas town. Instead of presenting this story in a normal biographical framework Linklater uses a combination of actors and real life townspeople by weaving them in through documentary style interviews and actual scripted scenes. With this blend of fact and possibly fiction we get a fascinating portrait into...

*full disclosure: a Blu-Ray copy of this film was provided by 20th Century Fox. Director/writer: Victor Salva. Cast: Gina Philips, Justin Long, Jonathan Breck, Patricia Belcher, Eileen Brennan, and Brandon Smith. It is disturbing to read that director Victor Salva was convicted of child rape in the late '80s. Yet, he still found work with Disney and he would later move on to Powder (1995) and the film reviewed here, Jeepers Creepers (2001). This title has recently released on Blu-Ray for the first time September 11th and despite the director's sordid history, there is something unique in this creature feature. An abrupt ending is the only element to take something away from full enjoyment, while acting, story and characterizations are all given suitable attention. The story follows siblings Darry (Justin Long) and Patricia (Gina Phillips) as they return from Bannon College. They are heading home when a darkened vehicle tries...

Friday the 13th meets Bring it On.
Written and Directed by Kerry Beyer
Featuring Kerry Beyer, Jon Paul Burkhart, Alyssia Dujmovich, Brandon Hearnsberger, Julin, John Lansch, Brandon Smith, Roxy Vandiver, Denise Williamson, Katy Rowe, Megan Moser, Amy Morris

The new millenium has initiated the terribly tragic demise of some of the most influential deranged deviants in the history of horror films. A plethora of wimpy Jason Voorhees and Michael Meyers wannabes has submerged the slasher sub-genre in a swampy, leech-infested lake leaving me with no other choice but to accept the inevitable: my once immortal horror heroes have sadly been plagued with mortality by much tamer modern day manifestations of the macabre. Independent writer/director and owner & founder of production company Kerosene Films, Kerry Beyer takes a playful stab at re-inventing and ultimately redefining some of the greatest monumental machete-wielding maniacs ever to slash their ways through horror history.

Director/writer: Kerry Beyer.
Spirit Camp is a film that was edited, directed, and scored by actor Kerry Beyer. The film was released on DVD on December 27th and the film blends campiness, cheerleaders, and some choice cuts in this second Kerosene Film production. The acting by a few of the smaller characters comes across as amateurish, but Julin as Rachel and Roxy Vandiver as Nikki shine like two golden globes. Spirit Camp is a film for horror film fans made by horror film enthusiasts.
The story starts off with a small group of cheerleaders camping in the forest at night and viewers will instantly know something not good is going to happen. Fast forward a bit and we have the first nude shot three minutes out and a gorey sequence shortly after that. These early scenes do their job and hook the viewer, hopefully not fatally. Two years into...

Actress Julin passed on a couple of exclusive pics (see them below) from Spirit Camp, a cheerleader-slasher flick in which she plays one of the lead roles. The film was written, produced and directed (and shot, edited and scored) by Kerry Beyer, an acclaimed fashion photographer who won the Slamdance Anarchy Film Showcase and was a semi-finalist for a Nicholl Fellowship in screenwriting.
Julin appears in the film as Rachel, leader of the popular girls at a cheerleader camp. When Goth chick Nikki (Roxy Vandiver) is sent there as part of her rehabilitation from a juvenile correction facility, the two enter into a bitter rivalry—until other members of the squad begin dying horribly, and Nikki, Rachel and the other survivors must band together against the mysterious maniac who’s stalking them. The cast also includes Brandon Smith, Megan Moser, Amy Morris, Jon Paul Burkhart, Kavon Rafat, Katy Rowe, Phil Leggett and George Brock.
