Iconic Nickelodeon series “SpongeBob SquarePants” has never been afraid to get weird — see the episode where vampire Nosferatu pranks the Krusty Krab or the time SpongeBob and his friends nearly got killed by a live-action gorilla. But this January, the show is really embracing its freak flag with “The Tidal Zone,” a new three-part special that sees the reality of Bikini Bottom dissolve before the sea creature’s eyes.
According to an ad released by Nickelodeon, the special sees the reality of the main series merge with those of its two spinoff series, both of which premiered last year: “The Patrick Star Show,” which focuses on SpongeBob’s best friend hosting a talk show with his family, and the Paramount+ kids series “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years,” about younger versions of the main show’s cast attending summer camp. There may not be a more iconic opening in the modern animation landscape than that of SpongeBob SquarePants. Only one cartoon jingle is bold enough to ask questions like “who lives in a Pineapple under the sea?” and demand to know if “nautical nonsense be something you wish.”
The show open for SpongeBob SquarePants’ second spinoff, The Patrick Star Show, has a lot to live up to then. It’s unlikely to be as infamous and influential as its forefather’s opening (because what could be?) but that doesn’t mean it can’t have some fun on its own. Thankfully, we’re happy to report that the intro for The Patrick Star Show is quite fun! And don’t just take our word for it, because thanks to the kind folks at Nickelodeon, we can exclusively reveal it right now. Take a look below:

Ohhhh who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SpongeBob SquarePants, of course! But what was Mr. SquarePants’ life like before he was paying down a mortgage on a large piece of fruit? Thankfully we will all soon find out.
Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years is a SpongeBob SquarePants prequel that will depict SpongeBob and friends’ life under the sea before they were “adults.” The series will find a 10-year-old SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, and others building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the titular camp.
The series is notable for moving away from the traditional 2D animation style that SpongeBob is known for in favor of 3D CGI animation. The series was originally set for the sponge’s native Nickelodeon before the powers at ViacomCBS decided it would be useful in helping launch the newly branded streaming service Paramount+.

“The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” will be available on the rebranded Paramount+ when it launches on March 4, as will the first six episodes of the new animated series “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years.”

“The SpongeBob Movie” is the first “SpongeBob” adaptation that’s entirely in animated CGI, and it follows Spongebob as he goes on a road trip to search for his missing pet snail Gary. Kids first got to fall in love with the ever-bubbly and porous SpongeBob SquarePants back when the Stephen Hillenberg-created show launched on Nickelodeon the summer of ’99. Twenty-two years later, those now-adult fans and their children will get to experience SpongeBob before he was perennially donning a tie and flipping patties at the Krusty Krab, having nautical, nonsensical fun at summer camp.
Today, Nickelodeon and Paramount Plus (the soon to be rebranded CBS All Access) dropped a six-minute sneak peek of the all-new “SpongeBob SquarePants” prequel, “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years” during the slimy, family-friendly halftime presentation of the NFL wild card game Sunday on Nickelodeon. The CG-animated spinoff series follows a 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants and his pint-sized marine pals (think a brace-faced Sandy Cheeks), as they sing by the waterlogged campfire and swim by the kelp forest in Lake Yuckymuck.

We’re getting a sneak peak at Kamp Koral: Spongebob’s Under Years prequel series from Nickelodeon and Paramount+. The clip dropped today during a special halftime presentation of the NFL Wild Card Game on Nickelodeon.
In a first look at the series premiere, “The Jellyfish Kid,” a young SpongeBob is determined to catch his first jellyfish and his friends do whatever they can to help him.
Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio, the series is slated to debut in 2021 exclusively on the newly rebranded Paramount+ streaming service. Following the season’s run on Paramount+, the series will air on Nickelodeon later in the year.
In the first-ever SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff, the CG-animated prequel follows 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals as they spend their summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral.

Are you ready for some jellyfishing? While the NFL may have brought professional football to Nickelodeon tonight with the NFL Wild Card Game on Nickelodeon, football wasn’t the only pastime featured on the network during the broadcast. At halftime, Nickelodeon debuted the first sneak peek of Paramount+ Original Series Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, and the new clip featured SpongeBob’s very first jellyfishing experience.

I wouldn’t be shocked if we get an appearance from the magic conch, a sea bear, or see the first performance of the “Campfire Song Song.”

“Kamp Koral” is a CG-animated series which introduces viewers to a 10-year-old SpongeBob at a sleepaway camp. The voice cast of Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy) and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton) reprise their roles in the 13-episode series. They are joined by Carlos Alazraqui and Kate Higgins who will voice new characters Nobby and Narlene, narwhal siblings who live in the woods surrounding the camp.

Are ya ready kids? We’ve known for a while now that Nickelodeon was aiming to expand the SpongeBob SquarePants brand with some spinoff series. We had our suggestions as for what those should be, but it appears that Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years will be the first project of the SpongeBob Extended Universe out of the gate. Today, we have our first image from the upcoming series.
Featuring a glimpse of 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants, pal Patrick Star (wearing a very fetching camp uniform) and brace-faced Sandy Cheeks, while also offering looks at younger versions of Squidward, Mr. Krabbs, and Plankton in what appear to be camp staff roles, this first image shows off the bright, CG-created underwater world that fans can expect when the series debuts in 2021.

Chicago – The story of “Little Women,” by Louisa May Alcott, has been an American institution since its publication in 1869. The story of four girls-to-little-women during the American Civil War, with their indomitable mother holding down the household while their father is away in the war, was a perfect candidate to become a Broadway musical. The Brown Paper Box Co. (BPBCo) is currently presenting a brilliant adaptation of that musical for the storefront stage, and its emotion, music craft and energy is nothing sort of a triumph… this small theater company that could does it again. The show has various evening/matinee performances at the The Strawdog Theatre in Chicago through February 9th, 2018. Click here for more details, including ticket information.

Nickelodeon has made a SpongeBob SquarePants Halloween special called The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom and they've even released a trailer for it that you can watch below. The best thing about this is that it's all done in stop-motion animation!
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom tells the tale of the Flying Dutchman (Brian Doyle-Murray), who shows up in Bikini Bottom and he is looking to scare everyone. Since SpongeBob thinks that scary things funny, the Flying Dutchman has met his challenge.
There will be all kinds of changes to the show to give it that fun Halloween vibe:
Bikini Bottom is decked out for Halloween and features Sandy’s treedome as a mad scientist’s lab, including a giant remotely operated Acorn Monster; Mr. Krabs’ restaurant as “The Horrors of the Chum Bucket,” displaying scenes of Plankton torturing food; and Plankton’s restaurant as “The Horrors of the Krusty Krab,...

Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

Comedian-Actor Martin Lawrence appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week and offered up an update on Bad Boys For Life. The Bad Boys flicks were both big hits when they came out, and arguably the best thing Lawrence has been a part of. As such, Lawrence acknowledged that it's the thing he gets asked about the most, and so he was more than happy to offer fans an update.
When asked about the most frequent question he gets from fans, without hesitation, Lawrence told Kimmel, "The most is, 'When are we going to do another Bad Boys?'"
So, when are you going to do another Bad Boys, Mr. Lawrence? After all, we heard back in August that writer-director Joe Carnahan was champing at the bit to get the film going.

Since his groundbreaking debut in 1977 with his group, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Sakamoto has changed the face of modern music. He has lent his incredible range to the soundtracks of films like The Last Emperor, Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence and The Revenant and has even made the occasional acting appearance. Confirmed titles include Måns Månsson’s Yarden [pictured] and Eiji Uchida’s Lowlife Love.
Film Fest Gent’s 43rd edition (Oct 11-21) is planning a focus on Nordic cinema and a spotlight on Japan.
Titles showing in the Nordic Focus include The Yard (Yarden) by Måns Månsson from Sweden, the Swedish/Norwegian/Danish drama A Serious Game by Pernilla August and Norwegian children’s film Solan & Ludwig: The Big Cheese Race by Rasmus A. Sivertsen.
“By dedicating our film programme to Nordic Cinema, we aim to show that strong, intelligent and moving drama from the countries of the Northern Lights is not restricted to crime literature and popular TV series, but can also be found in the present-day film production of the area,” said festival artistic director Patrick Duynslaegher.

Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures have released the first photo of Scarlett Johansson as Major in their co-production live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. Shooting has started in Wellington, New Zealand, and the press release came with this official synopsis:
Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “Ghost In The Shell” follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.
I've never read the original manga series or seen the anime feature, so I'm going into this one with very little context. Hopefully director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and The Huntsman) will focus more heavily on the story this time around; I'm still interested in seeing him put his visual skills to good use,...
