Peter Dinklage became a force to be reckoned with at the Emmys during his tenure as Tyrion Lannister in HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” with the actor winning four wins from eight nominations. The cast of “Game of Thrones” was so good, however, that many of them are still Emmys forces even after the show ended and they’ve moved on to different projects. Let’s take a look at the “Game of Thrones” alumni who could compete at this year’s Emmys.

“It’s great to be on any project at the genesis, where you can really help set the vision for the show,” notes director Sarah Adina Smith while discussing her work directing the first two episodes of Apple TV+’s “Lessons in Chemistry.” She tells Gold Derby’s Latasha Ford, “It’s not just the visual tone, but also the tone of the story and the performance. And then also setting the tone for process, and making sure it’s the kind of show that people are excited to be working on every day when they come to work.” Watch the full video interview above.

Even the once-indomitable Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t bulletproof to superhero fatigue, at least not anymore.
The MCU went from making cinematic behemoths to box-office failures, an unfortunate yet conspicuous development that has taken place in recent years. But what is being labeled as superhero fatigue – the supposed culprit behind the studio’s morbid flops – isn’t the actual root of the problem. And The Boys‘ Antony Starr has the perfect solution for giants like Marvel Studios to fix that.

Considering how Marvel went from being the most successful superhero brand to seeing miserable days at theatres, it might do Kevin Feige some good to take notes.
Antony Starr Addresses the Infamous Superhero Fatigue
Portraying a superhero on-screen for the past five years, Antony Starr is well aware of the woeful state of some industry giants like the MCU suffering because audiences are less and less receptive to superhero films.

Mirren Gordon-Crozier has worked with Brie Larson on four projects in the past 10 years, beginning with the actress’ breakout role in the 2013 independent drama Short Term 12. Yet when the costume designer heard Larson’s next lead part was in a period TV series, “I almost fell to the ground,” she says.
What most excited Gordon-Crozier about coming on board was the span from 1949 to 1957 that’s covered in Lessons in Chemistry, the Apple TV+ adaptation of Bonnie Garmus’ novel of the same name in which Larson stars as Elizabeth Zott, a chemist turned cooking show star who’s navigating stifling gender norms amid love and loss. Gordon-Crozier talked with THR about the defining style of that period and the story Zott’s clothes tell in the series.
Were there real-life figures that inspired the series’ wardrobe direction?
Definitely, but it was their off-duty wardrobe rather than what we’ve seen on camera.

“I appreciate chemistry, but it’s not how my brain really works,” Lewis Pullman readily admits while discussing his role as chemist Calvin Evans in the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ limited series “Lessons in Chemistry.” He tells Gold Derby’s Latasha Ford, “There’s something very intriguing about trying to portray somebody who’s written as a savant and a genius, when you’re not that. And so that was a good challenge.” Watch the full video interview above.

“It’s been a long road, simply put,” revealed Oscar winner Brie Larson while discussing her role as Elizabeth Zott in the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ limited series “Lessons in Chemistry.” She tells Gold Derby’s Latasha Ford, “It was three years of development, to then bring it to the screen and film it. Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry is the story of biogeneticist cooking show host Elizabeth Zott. Composer Carlos Rafael Rivera said he had to answer the question “what would a biogeneticist sound like?” when pilot director Sarah Adina Smith asked him to write the series’ music. This led him to some musical experimentation of his own.
“She started recommending playlists of bands like Boards of Canada, really out-there music,” Rivera said in an interview for Deadline’s Sound & Screen Television live-music event. “That music that I wrote didn’t work. It was something that we tried though.”
Series creator Lee Eisenberg steered Rivera back to more traditional dramatic themes. Still, Rivera found he could work in some of his experimental music.

Brie Larson’s Elizabeth Zott is a woman who doesn’t conform to society’s expectations. In AppleTV+’s “Lessons in Chemistry,” Larson plays a brilliant young woman who dreams of being a chemist in 1950s America, a time when society believed a woman’s place is in the home and not in a science lab. She eventually does make it into the Hastings Research Institute to realize her life’s ambition, despite her male colleagues dismissing her with comments about her need to smile more.
Although she remains, for the most part, button-downed and unemotional, there is an evolution of her character, albeit a subtle one. Thanks to a skilled team of artisans, Elizabeth’s journey as a woman who defied society’s rules is reflected in her wardrobe, makeup and the show’s music.

Avengers: Endgame sits at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes with more than 550 reviews. However, with many critics turning on superhero movies in recent years, there's been an increase in "superhero fatigue" talk and a general, often overly harsh, criticism of the genre.
However, one person who won't put up with the 2019 movie being torn down in any way is singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson.
In a new video posted on The Kelly Clarkson Show's YouTube channel, the American Idol winner responds to negative Letterboxd reviews. In the case of Avengers: Endgame, she was having none of it.
"Who gave this a bad review?" Clarkson wondered before mocking critics: "'Ugh, it’s just these big epic Marvel things. These big epic superhero movies.' Fans love them. Not everything has to be Shawshank Redemption. Whatever."
The review also referenced Martin Scorsese's scathing assessment of comic book adaptations to which Clarkson said,...

Jennifer Aniston has had a lot of work lately. The We’re the Millers star can boast of an illustrious career, having been an active professional for a span of decades. That is what sets her apart from the rest of the crop. But it looks like those years of toil have finally begun to take their toll on Aniston. Her recent appearance on the red carpet in Los Angeles sparked a wave of concern as she seemed very tired. But her ‘tired’ look might be something entirely different.

The Marvels was released last November to so-so reviews (it has 61% on Rotten Tomatoes) and a dismal $206.1 million at the worldwide box office.
There are plenty of possible reasons why the sequel bombed, but after Captain Marvel made over $1.1 billion in 2019, its dismal performance greatly surprised the majority. While Captain Marvel 3 is likely off the table, plans for Carol Danvers supposedly haven't changed.
According to The Cosmic Circus, "Carol Danvers' role in the Multiverse Saga moving forward has not been diminished, nor will it be toned down due to The Marvels underperforming."
As for what role the hero will play, it sounds like she's devoting her time to investigating the Quantum Bangles, their origin, and whether they're capable of opening a doorway which can bring Monica Rambeau back to Earth-616. Photon was left stranded in an unnamed alternate reality with the X-Men and this very much sounds like the...

‘The Marvels’ is the latest movie in the MCU. The movie was both a continuation of the Danvers’ story as well as a spotlight on Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau who established themselves as notable characters during Phase 4 of the MCU.

“I started doing it when I was filming ‘The Marvels’ during the pandemic,” Larson reveals. “We were in bubbles and didn’t have the nor- mal situation where the actors could hang out together and bond. So, my bubble would play games to pass the time.”
She then brought the party to the set of the Apple TV+ limited series, which she also executive produced. On a Sunday afternoon in late April, seven of this year’s Emmy frontrunners convened at The Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica. There were four Oscars and another 18 Emmy nominations between them, but the web of shared experience went far beyond hardware.
Earlier in their collective careers, at least a few of them starred opposite each other onscreen (Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Aniston among them); one actress (in this case, Naomi Watts) played the mother of another (Brie Larson); and still another actress (Jodie Foster) had graciously stepped in when a second (Kidman) had to bow out of a role. Griselda‘s Sofia Vergara and Aniston share an acting coach, Anna Sawai and Larson share a history in music, and Watts and Kidman share a friendship that dates back 40 years.
It all contributed to an hour of easy, intimate conversation, which covered everything from mentorship to menopause. Their time together...

While the Marvel side of things struggles to hold on to a strong footing, Disney can go back to developing other franchises in the superhero genre. One of the films that the studio can revive as a major franchise would be the 2005 film, Sky High. It was directed by Kung Fu Panda 4 director Mike Mitchell and starred Michael Angarano and The Flash star Danielle Panabaker in the lead roles.

Mitchell revealed that Disney had plans to develop a sequel film and a spin-off series in the Sky High universe earlier. He even fleshed out concepts for a sequel and shared that he was still interested in working on the project.

Okay, not what we were expecting Nicole Kidman to say in a roundtable chat, much less at around the same time when a trailer which shows her making out with Hollywood hunk Zac Efron was released. But you know, Kidman loves her men, and I can just tell that they love her too.
Nicole Kidman -Opens Up About Her Experiences Shooting Steamy Scenes For Her Movies
Nicole Kidman just kissed and told The Hollywood Reporter in their latest version of the roundtable talk, featuring fellow actresses Jennifer Aniston, Naomi Watts, Sofía Vergara, Brie Larson, Jodie Foster and Anna Sawai.
During their chat, the interviewer asked the stars whether they could relate to Anne Hathaway’s revelation that she once kissed ten men in a “gross chemistry test” just to see who would better match with her character onscreen.
“Who here can relate, and what were your versions of it?” the interviewer said,...

Wolverine is arguably the most iconic of the X-Men, and largely has a very uniform identity which has been helped by Hugh Jackman’s iconic portrayal of the character in various live-action adaptations. The mutant himself, however, has been an integral part of the comics since forever, and was already extremely popular via the various animated iterations that came out, since the 1980s.
Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. | Marvel
The short-tempered yet good-hearted, violence-loving savage has always belonged to Canada, although one particular iteration ended up changing that part of his identity. We speak of 1989’s X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men pilot, which was written by Larry Parr, a Marvel writer who had been working with Marvel Productions and Stan Lee since 1981.
As it turned out, Parr worked on the pilot which was later cancelled alongside the likes of Will Meugniot, and Rick Hoberg, all X-Men fanboys. The group however,...

There is a wealth of period costumes cross the categories for Emmy voters to think about this season.
In limited series, Oscar-winner Colleen Atwood built 200 to 300 leather jackets for AppleTV+’s World War II drama “Masters of the Air.” “It took six months to get them built,” Atwood says. Procuring the right elements was a global process that included getting era-specific zippers from Japan and sheepskin from Scotland and England.
Atwood also explained the unconventional aging process of the garments, saying that “once they were built, we had to shear the inside so they weren’t as thick, and then we put them in a vat of rocks inside a cement mixer to beat the leather up.”
“Shōgun” (now competing in drama series) costume designer Carlos Rosario built over 2,000 costumes for the 10-part show set in feudal Japan.

The Griselda star, who recently had extensive knee surgery, said on Thursday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! that the cover shoot with Nicole Kidman, Jodie Foster, Jennifer Aniston, Anna Sawai, Brie Larson and Naomi Watts was less than two weeks after her operation.
So her team wanted her to cancel, with them telling her, “We don’t think you’re in good shape, you’re not looking good.'” At the time, she was relying on a walker to move around, as she couldn’t walk.

Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, as the eligibility period closes Friday, we discuss two last-minute limited/TV movie hopefuls.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! We’re at the end of 2024 Emmys eligibility, and not without some last-minute entries. This week, Netflix added “Eric” to its stable of limited series contenders — joining fellow May release “A Man in Full,” as well as “Ripley,” “Griselda,” “Painkiller” and presumed frontrunner “Baby Reindeer.” Meanwhile, over at HBO, “The Great Lillian Hall” is here, a TV movie that puts Jessica Lange in contention for Best Limited/TV Movie Actress. It’s funny: Neither of these projects feels like they connected with critics and the late drops are always dicey when there are too many shows to watch in the first place.

Brie Larson isn’t the most favored actress in the MCU right now, partly because of past remarks and some fans finding her portrayal of Captain Marvel lacking depth.
Despite recent setbacks, such as ‘The Marvels’ becoming the lowest-grossing MCU movie so far, Larson demonstrates her kindness by supporting actors new to superhero roles.
In the THR Roundtable discussion, Larson shared that she’s often the one to reach out to new superhero actors, giving them a heads-up about the less glamorous aspects of the superhero business. Mainly, she tackles topics like toilet problems.

Brie Larson is definitely not the most popular actress currently in the MCU, mostly due to her past comments and beacuse fans felt that her performance as Captain Marvel was a bit flat.
Despite the overall negative experience, the most recent being ‘The Marvels’ which for now, goes down in history as the lowest-grossing MCU movie to date, Larson proves once again that she is extremely wholesome and goes that extra mile to help actors who are new to superhero roles.
During THR Roundtable Larson explained how she is usually the first one to contact new superhero actors to explain to them the less glamorous side of the superhero business. Mostly, toilet issues:

Forget Captain Marvel: Brie Larson plays a far more relatable feminist superhero in Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry, an adaptation of the Bonnie Garmus novel about a brainy chemist who hosts her own 1960s cooking show. While privately mourning the loss of her soulmate, Larson cooks up a program that not only delights her homemaking viewers but empowers them with knowledge about the science of cooking.
Here, Lessons In Chemistry executive producer/showrunner Lee Eisenberg reflects on the way too-limited series (come on Apple! Brie Larson knows the highs and lows of working in the superhero world. She made her own superhero debut in the 2019 film Captain Marvel, which earned over $1 billion at the global box office and became one of the top 25 highest grossing films of all time. She played the character again in Avengers: Endgame, which was released just weeks after Captain Marvel and earned almost $3 billion at the box office, briefly becoming the #1 highest grossing film of all time. We saw Larson’s Captain Marvel again in the 2021 hit Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, an episode of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, and last year’s The Marvels… which did not replicate Captain Marvel‘s success, making just over $200 million at the box office and becoming the lowest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are a lot of varying opinions about Larson’s performance and attitude, but...

The line-up for the new series of Variety’s Actors On Actors has been revealed, with high profile movie performers interviewing each other.
Variety’s Actors On Actors is one of the most delightful series you can watch as a film fan. The central conceit is that two actors sit down for a natter about their work, often going off on tangents, acting as a unique insight into the industry.
Generally, the pairings are quite surprising, with the actors concerned often never having worked together and, in some cases, seeming quite random, but each one is fascinating and, usually, an absolute hoot. You can see Kate Winslet shooting the breeze with Gary Oldman, for example, or Beanie Feldstein with Florence Pugh – we are still waiting for Jason Statham to make an appearence.

If anyone knows what kind of pressure comes with landing a superhero role in a major comic book movie franchise, it's Brie Larson.
Out of all the actors who've suited-up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the years, the Captain Marvel and The Marvels star has arguably faced the most scrutiny and backlash, which was at least partially due to comments she made in interviews that a particular section of the fandom latched onto in an attempt to cast the Academy Award-winner in a certain light.
While speaking to THR for a roundtable interview with several other actresses, Larson was asked about "the vitriol you’ve received from the male-dominated superhero world for playing Captain Marvel."
"I don’t know if it’s specific to Marvel," she replied. "I only know my experience, and my experience is being underestimated at times."

Jackson thought it would be great if Guillermo del Toro helmed the sequel, after hearing rumors of it at San Diego Comic-Con in 2014.

However, the sequel eventually went nowhere and WB rebooted the franchise with Kong: Skull Island in 2017. Del Toro’s work includes films like Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, and Pacific Rim. He had worked with Peter Jackson to write the screenplay of The Hobbit trilogy.

“I don’t know if anybody told you, but none of us knows what we’re doing,” announces two-time Oscar winner Jodie Foster halfway through the Drama Actress Emmy Roundtable. She’s surrounded by two more Oscar winners — Expats’ Nicole Kidman and Lessons in Chemistry’s Brie Larson — who nod in agreement. The True Detective star continues, “and that’s the real beauty of it, having that freshness of doubting yourself.” Over the course of an hour at The Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica, that trio, along with The Morning Show’s Jennifer Aniston, Shogun’s Anna Sawai, Griselda’s Sofía Vergara and Feud’s Naomi Watts, discuss everything from mentorship to menopause.

Despite being a professional writer for almost 19 years now, Lee Eisenberg had never written a solo script before “Lessons in Chemistry.” Having gotten his big start on the hit mockumentary sitcom “The Office” — for which he earned four of his seven total Emmy nominations to date, including one for Best Comedy Writing alongside his frequent collaborator Gene Stupnitsky in 2008 — he had spent most of his writing career co-writing episodes of TV. But on “Lessons in Chemistry,” which is based on Bonnie Garmus‘ 2022 bestseller of the same name, he penned two episodes by himself, the opener and closer, in addition to co-writing two, both with his wife, Emily Jane Fox.
“I read Bonnie Garmus’ book, I think, over the course of a weekend. I just absolutely devoured it. I thought it was so beautiful. The story turns were surprising; I found myself crying, I was laughing. My wife and I were...

Can you look back at the film industry without a sense of awe at its resilience and adaptability? It’s no secret that the past couple of years have served as the ultimate litmus test for Hollywood, emerging from a period that could only be described as its trial by fire. Following the pandemic, Hollywood attempted to revert to its pre-covid ways, albeit with varying degrees of financial and critical success.
In a way, 2021 and 2022 were considered ‘trial years’, when Covid remained a major issue for the business, and movie failures could be attributed to its impact on drawing audiences into physical theaters. But in 2023, things were different. Hollywood was able to assess adaptability and durability in a post-covid environment.
While it’s tricky to encapsulate the rollercoaster ride of an entire industry within a year’s frame, the vibes emanating from Tinseltown by the end of 2023 mixed heady optimism with cautious introspection.

Brie Larson’s The Marvels did not stand a chance after it heavily tanked at the box office, not to mention the early criticisms it received even before its premiere. After receiving harsh reviews from fans and critics, it has been hailed as the worst MCU film to date.

But, this is nothing new in the Marvel realm. Back in 2010, it released one of the most critically panned installments, and that’s Iron Man 2. Despite Tony Stark opening the gates for the MCU, his last two solo films were severely slammed.
