Jerry Seinfeld created and starred as the lead character in the classic sitcom Seinfeld. The series came close to never airing and soon became a part of popular culture. Some fans might recall one episode that featured Keith Hernandez. He had a great time with the cast members, but one star seemed aloof.
‘Seinfeld’ featured Jerry Seinfeld playing himself
Seinfeld started his career doing stand-up comedy at various clubs and became popular. In 1989, he got the chance to create a sitcom called Seinfeld along with Larry David. In the show, Seinfeld portrayed a fictionalized version of himself.
In the series, Jerry appears reasonable compared to his friends. His friends are George, Elaine, and Cosmo. Each episode has a different storyline, such as when George tries to get revenge on his boss.
The primary setting is an apartment building where the characters reside in New York City. The sitcom incorporates Seinfeld’s style of comedy.

Even though Seinfeld ended almost 25 years ago, it has remained an iconic and beloved television institution. Thanks to syndication, streaming services, and social media, Seinfeld has maintained a level of pop-culture relevance that most series only dream of achieving. While Seinfeld’s comedic performances are often what people reference when explaining their love of the show, Twitter user laura (@ecto_fun) recently shared a video detailing the series’ many movie references as one of the reasons they love to revisit it.

Exclusive: Winter State Entertainment has wrapped production on Kitty to Cooperstown—a new feature doc on MLB great Jim “Kitty” Kaat, who just this past Sunday was inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame.
The film will explore the 83-year-old’s life via exclusive interviews and never-before-seen footage, examining his legacy in light of his 25 years as a pro baseball player, as well as his 35 years as a seven-time Emmy-winning commentator.
Kaat’s story can be connected from the beginning of baseball to the present day, accompanied by baseball lore and legend at every turn. From his 1950s pitching with the Washington Senators against Yankee greats like Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra, to facing off with Sandy Koufax and the Dodgers in the 1965 World Series as a Minnesota Twin, to winning the 1982 World Series Championship with the St. Louis Cardinals and teammates Ozzie Smith and Keith Hernandez.

The hustle of show business means people not-infrequently have two projects hitting the market at the same time.
Even so, filmmaker Nick Davis is the creative force behind one of the more unusual doubleheaders in recent memory. He directed ESPN “30 for 30” limited series Once Upon a Time in Queens, an account of the World Series-winning, earth-scorching 1986 New York Mets. The two-night, four hour docuseries, whose executive producers include Jimmy Kimmel, premieres tonight and concludes tomorrow. Also today, Knopf has published Davis’s book, Competing with Idiots, a dual portrait of Joseph and Herman Mankiewicz that had been in the works for nearly two decades. The Hollywood royals were his great-uncle and grandfather, respectively.
“I’ve thought about what common ground there is between these projects,” Davis said in an interview with Deadline. “And I think what it is is that I have no memory of not being Herman Mankiewicz’s grandson.

ESPN examined the 1990s Chicago Bulls in a celebrated documentary series and probed the fortunes of the 1970s New York Yankees in a serialized drama. Now the sports-media giant has big plans for the New York Mets.
ESPN Films plans to release “Once Upon a Time in Queens,” a four-part series on the 1986 Mets, later this year on both ESPN and ESPN Plus. The series, produced under the umbrella of the Disney unit’s “30 for 30” documentary unit, is executive produced by Jimmy Kimmel, Sal “Cousin Sal” Iacono, Kimmelot’s Scott Lonker, and MLB’s Nick Trotta. It is directed and produced by Nick Davis.
The program will tell the story of the Mets’ World Series comeback, using hours of never-before-seen footage of the team. Players featured include: Bobby Ojeda; Darryl Strawberry; manager Davey Johnson; Dwight Gooden; Keith Hernandez; Kevin Mitchell; Lenny Dykstra; Mookie Wilson; Roger McDowell; Sid Fernandez; and Wally Backman.

The 1986 World Series-winning run by the New York Mets will get multi-part documentary treatment by ESPN in a project under the 30 for 30 banner whose executive producers include Jimmy Kimmel.
ESPN Films said Thursday the series would chronicle the team’s exploits on and off the field. In the Series, the Boston Red Sox were one strike away from victory before a two-out rally and a ground ball hit by Mookie Wilson slipped through the legs of Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner. The comeback, ESPN said in a press release, “was merely the climax of an epic tale of ambition and swagger set in a city that was synonymous with excess.”
The network promises “hours of never-before-seen footage” of the team, a group of disparate, larger-than-life characters who made a big impression on and off the field. Many members of the team went on to generate headlines long after 1986, among them Darryl Strawberry,...

ESPN is teaming with Jimmy Kimmel for a multi-part “30 for 30” on the 1986 New York Mets.
Kimmel, an unabashed fan of the Mets, will executive produce the documentary under his Kimmelot production banner, with Sal Iacono (“Cousin Sal”), Scott Lonker, Jordana Hochman and Mlb’s Nick Trotta. Nick Davis will direct.
The multi-part series will feature hours of never-before-seen footage of the ’86 Mets, a team known just as much for its off-field exploits as it was for its on-field dominance. It also came during a unique moment in New York baseball history: When the Mets were arguably more popular than their cross-town rival Yankees, who were in the midst of a dry spell (that would obviously not last long).

Imagine a world where Seinfeld was instead titled “Costanza.”
It doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. It doesn’t roll off the tongue.
But it might be a more accurate title.
Despite taking place in his apartment, despite the stand-up bits that open and close so many episodes, and despite his name gracing the title of the series, Jerry Seinfeld is not the true protagonist of Seinfeld.
That would be George Constanza.
A protagonist is the leading character in a story whose motivations, goals, and actions we most closely follow. On Seinfeld, George is the character most frequently occupying this position.
Seinfeld’s structure almost always follows along an A-plot (the main plot) a B-plot (a side plot) and a C-plot, and each of these plots come together at the end of the episode for a final punch line.

Against all climatological odds, March 26, 2020 proved to be the perfect weather day for Major League Baseball’s Opening Day. The temperature reached 57 degrees in New York, 67 in Los Angeles, and stayed in the 60s through much of the country in-between. It was a ideal time for communities to gather together, sit in the sun, enjoy some hotdogs, and take in America’s Pastime.
Of course, we didn’t get to do any of that on March 26. Nor will we the week after that, nor for many weeks still yet to come. Baseball, like everything else, is on hold while the world deals with the surging coronavirus pandemic. But while the games may not be getting played, the spirit of the sport soldiers on.

Ron Darling, a former starting pitcher on the New York Mets 1986 World Series team who has been a broadcaster for several years with New York-area cable network Sny as well as Turner Sports, revealed he has thyroid cancer.
Despite the diagnosis, Darling said he is aiming to return to the air in about a month. He had already been sidelined from broadcasts since April for an operation to remove a mass in his chest. During the operation, doctors discovered the cancer.
“My doctors have said they are optimistic that the cancer is treatable and that I would be back on the air talking baseball in the next month or so,” Darling, 58, said in a statement. “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their continued support.”
Keith Hernandez, Darling’s former Mets teammate and on-air partner, tweeted his get-well wishes.

It might have been one of the bumpiest primary-campaign finishes in New York state history, but 27-year-old Julia Salazar pulled it off, upsetting 16-year incumbent Martin Dilan to clinch the nomination for the state senate’s 18th District, representing a large swath of northern Brooklyn.

Exactly one week before the New York state primary, 27-year-old Julia Salazar faced a political candidate’s worst nightmare. She briskly walked away as reporters chased her, shouting questions about a new scandal — her fifth in five months on the campaign trail.
This particular controversy involved allegations from her college years. In 2011, Salazar was arrested for impersonating Keith Hernandez’s wife in order to commit bank fraud. Charges were never brought, yet the Daily Mail concluded that she’d had an affair with the former Mets star, also known for his Seinfeld cameos.

On Saturday, Brooklyn's minor league baseball team, the Cyclones, suffered a brutal 18-2 loss against the Aberdeen IronBirds, but they came away with the goodwill of a New York crowd as they celebrated the 25th anniversary of Seinfeld. The New York Mets organization isn't exactly known for its exquisite taste in financial partners. This is a franchise, after all, that recently settled a lawsuit stemming from its association with Bernard L. Madoff for $162 million. So it was amusing when Michelle Malkin and other right-wing commentators reacted to the news that comedian Bill Maher had purchased a minority stake in the team with the kind of moral indignation they normally reserve for things like taxes, or efforts to remove the Ten Commandments from suburban courtrooms.
Naturally, nobody found the spectacle more amusing than the new owner himself, who has been known to ridicule the right on his HBO political-comedy series, "Real Time With Bill Maher." "You know they saw this yesterday and went, 'Bill Maher? Owns part of a baseball team? Aaaargghh!'" Maher told The Huffington Post. "And then they had to figure out why they were mad.

With Eastbound & Down’s series finale set to air this Sunday and the 2012 Mlb season a few weeks underway, baseball is on the brain of many a sports-loving TV fan. With such a long and rich history, and such a strong place in American culture, it’s only natural for so many series to take it on, if only for an episode or two. Here is a sampling of the many great baseball-inspired episodes from American TV, the Eastbound & Down Memorial Top 10-

Baseball games have gone through a fascinating evolution. In the beginning, they were minimalist masterpieces (gamers of a certain age still talk about the greatness of "Rbi Baseball"), but then got bogged down by detail-oriented simulations (for about 10 years in there, these games were no fun at all). But by appealing to both stat-minded baseball obsessives and more casual fans who just want to see pretty stadiums and knock around homers (as well as some healthy competition from 2K Sports' baseball franchise), the "Mlb: The Show" series has become required playing every spring. What does the 2011 version bring to the lineup?

With two short but knife-sharp syllables and a whole lot of nosy questions, Wolowitz's overbearing mother on The Big Bang Theory is quickly establishing herself as one of television's great unseen characters. Think Charlie from Charlie's Angels or Rhoda's Carlton the Doorman, but with a Noo Yawk accent and louder. Much louder. We dialed up the actress responsible for the hilarious holler, Carol Ann Susi, whose on-camera credits include Seinfeld's famous episode with Keith Hernandez, "The Boyfriend." The charming and innovative movie Bottle, directed by Kirsten Lepore, just won the Grand Jury Sparky Award for Animated Short at the 17th annual Slamdance Film Festival. You can watch it in full above. The film is a heartbreaking love story between a sand creature and a snow creature separated by climate, but united by their ability to communicate through messages in a bottle they are able to pass back and forth. As the long-distance romance heats up, is there any chance these two lonely souls will eventually unite?
Bottle has been on a real roll the past few months, having screened at the 2010 AFI Film Festival in Los Angeles, was a finalist in the first ever Vimeo Awards and won the Best Student Film award at the Anim’est International Animation Film Festival.

Even if you don’t like sports in general or baseball in particular (like me), you still have to watch the absolutely hilarious I’m Keith Hernandez short film by Rob Perri. If you do like baseball, then you might be mildly disturbed by the time the whole 20-minute movie is over. And don’t show it to kids! This video is Nsfw and Nsfc (not safe for children). For the most part it’s innocuous — if you consider the discussion of rampant drug abuse to be “innocuous” — but there’s a scene or two that’s very adult in nature. But, this is an excellently produced parody of hagiographic TV biographies of famous people, complete with perfect deadpan narration describing the most shocking things.

If getting sand in your crotch while watching awesome short films sounds like a good time, then you better head on out to the first ever Black Rock City Film Festival, which is taking place right now, Aug. 30 to Sept. 3, at the legendary Burning Man gathering in the Nevada desert. If you’re already at Burning Man, hopefully you get cell reception and can see this lineup so you know where the best place is to be every night.
This event is a joint endeavor for the Boston Underground Film Festival and San Francisco’s IndieFest, who have selected over two dozen short films to screen at their open air theater. There are no start times for when these films will screen, but I would assume it would be sometime after sundown. Plus, there will be cocktail parties before and after the screenings, as well as Opening Night and Closing Night bashes.

There are no start times for when these films will screen, but I would assume it would be sometime after sundown. Plus, there will be cocktail parties before and after the screenings, as well as Opening Night and Closing Night bashes.

'I've got a jar stuffed with songs,' Strokes singer tells Rolling Stone.

The New York Mets' annual slide into obscurity (and/or fourth place in the National League East) is already well under way, so it's a bit of a surprise that the Strokes' Julian Casablancas has decided that now is the perfect time to announce his plans to pen a theme song for the team.
Then again, Casablancas has been rather busy as of late, so maybe he hasn't caught the last month of, uh, action.
Anyway, in the new issue of Rolling Stone, Casablancas expressed his desire to write a new TV theme for the Mets, saying that he's overflowing with ideas to spice up their broadcasts.
"I'm totally serious," he says. "I have some ideas, I have to see if they like it. I've got a jar stuffed with songs,...

Jerry Seinfeld took to the broadcast booth during Wednesday night's game between his beloved New York Mets and the Detroit Tigers, delivering four-and-a-half innings of play-by-play and, in the process, continuing his rather amazing feud with Lady Gaga.
Earlier this week, Seinfeld called Gaga "a jerk" after she flipped the bird at photographers during a June 10 Mets home game. The comedian also took issue with team staff at Citi Field for ushering the pop star into his empty private box seats.
"You give people the finger and you get upgraded? Is that the world we're living in now?" Seinfeld admonished on New York's Wfan radio. "This woman is a jerk. I hate her. I can't believe they put her in my box,...

Jerry Seinfeld made his second rip at eccentric singer Lady GaGa. After making it clear that he hated GaGa and even calling her "a jerk", the 54-year-old funnyman urged her to "make a nice apology to the Met fans."
Seinfeld, who joined announcer Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez as a commentator for the Mets in the booth for 4 1/2 innings on Wednesday night, June 23, further said, "Come on. We had her as a guest and then I'm willing to forget the whole thing." And Seinfeld apparently still had more words for GaGa, saying "Now I think it's fair to say we're all big fans of Lady GaGa."
"Lame out-of-it white guys in their mid fifties, is her core audience. But I'm very protective of my Met fans. I love my Met fans. And I did not like the finger. It was disrespectful," the "Pros & Cons" actor continued. "We don't understand the...

Jerry Seinfeld joined former Mets player - and former Seinfeld guest - Keith Hernandez in the announcer's booth last night at Citi Field. The gig was a gift from wife Jessica and Seinfeld treated it no differently than he would a comedy club. Only this time, the funny man's focus was Lady Gaga."It's fair to say that we're all big fans of Lady Gaga -- lame, out-of-it white guys in their mid-50s is her core audience," said Seinfeld. Lady Gaga made a scene when she attended a Mets game in a studded bikini top and little else earlier this month. She cursed at photographers and flipped fans the bird before being moved to Seinfeld's private lux ...

Lady Gaga's outrageous antics is boring Jerry Seinfeld. After going to the Mets game half-naked, giving the paparazzi the finger, the "Bad Romance" hitmaker still hasn't impressed the "Seinfeld" star.
Gaga went to the Mets game in another attention-grabbing attire. She was wearing studded bra and panty when she flipped off the paparazzi when they took her photo.
He told New York's Wfan radio host Steve Somers on Monday, "I wish her the best. You know, you take one 'a' off of that, you've got gag."
"I don't know what these young people think or how they promote their careers. I'm older. I'm 56. I look at Lady Gaga the way Keith Hernandez watches these kids when they pull the pocket out, they wear the inside-out pocket… Do you think he understands that? He can't understand that. That's a new game, that's kids."...

HollywoodNews.com: Jerry Seinfeld, through no choice or want of his own, was connected to Lady Gaga after she was escorted to his empty luxury box at the New York Mets’ Citi Field and had a vulgar heyday.
The incident occurred on July 10 when she was caught scantily clad, giving the finger to fans and photographers.
Seinfeld never gave any authority permission for this and he sounded off about it on New York radio Wfan Monday night.
“I’m not one of these all-publicity-is-good people,” Seinfeld said on Wfan. “People talk about you need exposure — you could die of exposure … I don’t understand how this is good for her, but I’m sure she understands her milieu better than I ever could.”
Seinfeld further ripped, “This woman is a jerk. I hate her. I can’t believe they put her in my box, which I paid for … You give...

One of the biggest baseball stories over the weekend wasn't the latest dominant performance from Washington Nationals rookie pitching phenom Stephen Strasburg or Manny Ramirez's return to Fenway Park for the first time since he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers two years ago. Rather, it was the strange headlines grabbed by Lady Gaga, who attended the New York City "Subway Series" on Friday night (June 18). Following the game (while wearing little more than underwear and a Yankees jersey), Gaga made her way into the Yankees clubhouse to drink some whiskey and visit with a handful of the players. She was asked to leave, which lead many to believe that she had been banned from the place. But Yankees general manager Brian Cashman clarified the team's official stance on Sunday (June 20). "She's not banned," he said. "Celebrities aren't banned. If Michael Jordan showed up here he would have access...

Jerry Seinfeld will call a Mets game with for mer man-crush Keith Hernandez -- 18 years after they paired for a classic "Seinfeld" episode. Seinfeld, a diehard Mets fan, will join former Amazin's star Hernandez, now an Sny analyst, and play-by-play man Gary Cohen in the booth for at least three innings during next Wednesday's Mets-Tigers game. It will be Seinfeld's first visit to the Sny booth and the first time he and Hernandez have talked about the famous,...

Until the above clip went viral, Keith Hernandez was best known to nonbaseball fans for dating Elaine on Seinfeld. Now, he's the guy who napped during a New York Mets game. But, c'mon, did he really fall asleep? Let's just say, Hernandez wouldn't be the first boldfaced name to be caught catching Z's. During one of his endless court dates, convicted-killer Phil Spector snoozed away his precious moments of free time. Former President Bill Clinton bobbed and weaved during a 2008 Martin Luther King Jr. Day event. Christian Bale nodded off during a sleeping scene in Batman Begins—and didn't wake up until Michael Caine poked him in the ribs. (Unfortunately, we don't have...

"Seinfeld" introduced us to the concept of a "show about nothing" back in 1990 -- but let's be honest: It was hardly the first show on TV where not a lot of significant things happened.
The story of "The Beverly Hillbillies" was basically covered in the theme song, and despite its popularity, Jethro's search for a career was pretty much the most exciting thing that ever went down. "The Brady Bunch" tried to wring what comedy it could out of scenarios like the family's big night out at a square dance. Richie, Potsie, and Ralph were perpetually on the make in their argyle sweaters and penny loafers on "Happy Days," but most of the time they ended up back at Arnold's hanging with The Fonz. And if you had a dollar for every time Norm got off of that barstool in "Cheers," you'd have ... well, not all that many dollars.

Legendary artist LeRoy Neiman doesn't normally go anywhere without his sketchpad. But he did the other night at the Friars Club, where he was roasted at an event staged by his good pals Broadway producers Irv Welzer and Herb Blodgett, and emceed by Mark Simone. The roasters included Freddie Roman, Stewie Stone, Dick Capri, Mickey (of the old "Sgt. Bilko" show) Freeman, and Larry ("F- Troop") Storch. Leading the applause was ex-heavyweight champ Larry Holmes, former Mayor David Dinkins...

Despite their steroid scandals, today's baseball superstars are still choirboys compared to the boozing, skirt-chasing New York Mets of the mid-1980s.
"We were the boys of summer. The drunk, speed-freak, sneaking-a-smoke boys of summer," writes onetime home-run legend Darryl Strawberry in "Straw: Finding My Way," out in April from Ecco. "[An] infamous rolling frat party . . . drinking, drugs, fights, gambling, groupies."
