In a month, Scott Hamilton will learn whether the tumor lurking in his brain has grown, or whether the “little critter” – as the ice skater wryly calls it — is “behaving itself.” Waiting for such news could easily keep a guy up at night, but for the Olympic champ it’s almost an afterthought.

When the Yankees’ Brett Gardner takes the field Friday night against the Boston Red Sox, he won’t just be thinking about beating his team’s biggest rival, but also about the kids with cancer from Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital that he’s invited to the game as his special guests.
Gardner, the team’s All-Star left fielder, will wear two sets of specialized cleats by New Balance — he’ll switch pairs during the game — that will go up for bidding at 7 p.m. to benefit the hospital’s Pediatric Cancer Research Center, which is dedicated to helping kids with cancer.

When fans heard that 28-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps would be racing against against a shark on live TV they were excited, but it turns out the result wasn’t quite what they had in mind.
On Sunday’s Phelps vs Shark: Great Gold vs Great White, the Olympic swimmer tested his racing ability against a number of sharks — but it was all simulated. Instead, Phelps raced against virtual versions of the sharks side-by-side based on their swim rate in a separate race.
The problem? Many fans apparently thought that the retired Olympian would be getting into a swim tank with real sharks.
