Exclusive: Miguel Gomez will not be returning to FBI: Most Wanted when the crime drama series is back for a fourth season next fall. Gomez, who joined the FBI spinoff as a series regular midway through Season 2, playing Special Agent Ivan Ortiz, is leaving the series. His departure is believed to be a creative decision.
The recent Season 3 finale provided a suitable ending to the arc of Ortiz, a former LAPD Gang Unit officer born and raised in Los Angeles who, after a stint with the FBI’s counter-terror unit in Washington, DC, joined the team that tracks down the country’s most wanted fugitives. In the finale, which aired last week, Ortiz returned to Los Angeles to take care of his ailing father.

Former How I Met Your Mother star Alyson Hannigan is set for a recurring role opposite Ryan Robbins and Alex Paxton-Beesley on the second season of Wgn America’s Mennonite crime drama Pure.
Inspired by true events, the series goes deep inside a closed, secretive subculture through the eyes of Noah Funk (Robbins), a conflicted, good-hearted man trying to protect his family and preserve his faith. Noah is a newly elected Mennonite pastor, who is determined to rid his community of the scourge of drugs and its ties to a trans-border smuggling alliance with ruthless Mexican cocaine cartels. Just when he thinks he’s won, Noah and his wife Anna (Paxton-Beesley) are thrust headlong into a desperate world of violence, greed and betrayal.
Hannigan will play Esther Dunkel, a lapsed Mennonite who is nobody’s fool and has been helping her lawyer-boyfriend funnel a fortune in cartel cash through a local bank.

The acquisition of Pure seems to go in line with the network’s new model of relying on imported dramas after it exited the high-end original drama arena.

Vikings has largely followed a specific directorial practice wherein their stable of directors handle chunks of the series, two or three episodes in a row, before handing the story off to the next director. As the seasons have worn on, that stable has grown from 3 directors in the first season to 7 in Season 4 last year. Diversity champion Stephanie Allain to deliver keynote.
This year’s selected projects for Strategic Partners’ International Co-Production Market in Canada features producer delegates with more than 186 combined international festival awards.
The 85 delegates will convene in Halifax from September 14-16 to network with global industry leaders looking to invest.
Stephanie Allain (pictured), the founder of Homegrown Pictures and a champion of diversity who produced Hustle & Flow and served as executive producer on TV series Dear White People, among others, will deliver a keynote address under the auspices of In Conversation With.
“Now that films by and about women and people of colour are in the zeitgeist, Homegrown Pictures is doubling down on telling those stories despite the lack of foreign presales,” Allain said.
Laura Mackenzie, programme manager of Strategic Partners, said, “In an industry that is increasingly global – co-production should be at the forefront of all producers’ plans.”

This week's episode of The History Channel's Vikings cleverly sets the stage for conflict to come...
This review contains spoilers.
3.2 Wanderer
After Ragnar’s battle against Brihtwulf last week, this week’s The Wanderer seems almost overly sedate. There are no battles and not even a lot of personal conflict in this episode. It is clear, however, that this is only the lull before the storm.
And that lull is productive narratively, as we see much on the horizon.
Ragnar and his men (and women) are giving their weary limbs a rest—those limbs (and other body parts) that are not being removed, that is. The first to be freed from its trunk is the head of the fallen Brihtwulf, when his niece demands it of Ragnar. We can hardly blame her as she finally reveals not only the reason for that desire but also for her consistently bizarre behavior.

Strategic Partners, a presentation of the Atlantic Film Festival, has announced the producers selected to participate as part of the inaugural project exchange with Mexico’s Los Cabos International Film Festival and Brazil’s RioContentMarket, in addition to an incredible line-up of producers and projects. As part of a two year spotlight on Latin America, one Mexican producer with a feature film in development and one Brazilian producer with a television project in development have been invited to participate at Strategic Partners 2014, September 11 - 14 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A Canadian feature film in development will then be selected from this year’s Strategic Partners to participate at Los Cabos International Film Festival, November 11 - 14, 2014. Additionally, a Canadian television project in development looking for Brazilian co-production partners will be chosen to attend RioContentMarket, February 2015. This initiative is sponsored by the Canadian Media Production Association.
Producer and co-founder of the Mexican production company Agrupación Caramelo Cinematografica, April Shannon, has been selected to participate in this year’s Strategic Partners from Los Cabos International Film Festival. Shannon’s impressive career includes working as producer on Bernardo Arellano’s "Between Night and Day" as well as production manager on James Franco’s "The Broken Tower." Shannon recently produced Arellano’s second feature "The Beginning of Time," now in post-production, to be released in late 2014. He has won over 50 renowned awards including Best Film at the Gramado Film Festival, Best Director at the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival and Best Screenwriter at Paulína Film Festival (Brazil) among many others. Galvão will bring the highly anticipated television miniseries, The Gardener, to this year’s Strategic Partners.
“Ushering in the very first project exchange with producers April Shannon and Marcelo Galvão sets the bar incredibly high and truly complements the illustrious roster of delegates we will have at this year’s events,” says Strategic Partners Director, Laura Mackenzie. “The results couldn’t have been more ideal and I look forward to continuing our newly founded relationships with Los Cabos International Film Festival and RioContentMarket.”

This week, on Orphan Black: Sarah is terrible at roleplay, Kira is proactive, and Vic is molested by elves
Well then. Looks like the writers shared this critic’s concerns about Leekie as a viable villain. This week’s Pulp Fiction-inspired conclusion may be a bit pat and predictable, but it resolves the show’s Leekie problem while moving Donnie in a new and promising direction (and making fabulous use of “Love Is All Around”). Alison’s relationship with her monitor husband has been a confusing blind spot for the show for most of its run—do they care for each other or has Donnie been playing Alison from the start? I’m a fan of Ocean’s Eleven. Ocean’s Thirteen, too, though we shan’t discuss the muddled wreck that was Ocean’s Twelve; and besides, that’s besides the point. The point is, both of these hustle films were required to con the audience by disguising their primary twist as part of their very makeup. But when a novel shortlisted for the Man Booker employs such a twist with no particular narrative reasoning, or a piece of long form television does the same, it comes as a bit of a slap in the face.

Let’s not forget this about Vikings; it’s vital, it’s bloody, and it’s brutal. Michael Hirst’s fundamental grasp of the unchecked violent obsessions all leaders of that time period boasted, and the ways they indulged their lust for blood alongside their political interests, is what elevates Athelstan ultimate fate into something tremendously heart-breaking, and bizarrely necessary; as a modern audience, we recognise what cruel interests are at play, and what Athelstan himself has lost; that is, more damage to his spirit than to his flesh alone. Ego — as Rollo and others would attest to – corrodes, regardless of whether it’s a naive certainty one might better serve a different leader, or might be better absorbed into a different pack.
