X and Instagram turned into celebratory water coolers for the likes of Lynda Carter, Rob Reiner, Mark Hamill, Michael Rapaport, Henry Winkler and more Thursday after a New York City found former President Donald Trump guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records.
“God Bless New York City,” posted Ellen Barkin — who, like so many other celebrities, were eager to weigh in on the verdict that came in shortly after 5 p.m. Et. Trump sat motionless between his attorneys, Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, as the jury was polled.
All affirmed their guilty verdicts.
“The Republican candidate for president is a convicted felon,” wrote Stephen King.

Ok, so it’s not quite a Gemini’s Twin reunion, but Ana Gasteyer guesting on this week’s episode of Loot may be the next best thing.
The Apple TV+ series stars Maya Rudolph as Molly Wells, a newly divorced billionaire who is attempting to navigate life on her own with plenty of money to burn. In this week’s episode, Gasteyer plays Grace Fences—a fellow billionaire divorcee who doesn’t seem to be handling the dissolution of her marriage quite as well as Molly.
Rudolph seemed thrilled to be able to share a stage with her former SNL co-star again.
“[It was] so nice,” Rudolph told TVLine. “I think everyone was titillated to have her. She infused so much joy. It’s nice to have an old friend who you have a second hand with because you don’t have to start from the beginning ever.

By the time Agatha All Along lands on Disney+ this September, it will have been several years since the WandaVision spinoff formally began brewing at the streamer. Understandably, then, it’s “very surreal” for series star Kathryn Hahn to at last be promoting the series ahead of its fall release.

Pass the Courvoisie (and maybe some cough syrup?) because Loot just served up one boozy SNL reunion with special guest star Ana Gasteyer.
Gasteyer plays Grace in Episode 8, a fellow billionaire Molly used to hang with pre-divorce. Looking to expand Space for Everyone nationwide, Molly and her crew are on the hunt for more funding from other donors who are as “generous, relatable and hot-but-they-don’t-know-it” as Molly. They say comedians can shift to dramatic acting relatively easily because making something funny is harder than making it sad, so if you’re in comedy, you’ve clearly got the chops. For Ana Gasteyer, add “making it creepy” to the resume because her stint on Celebrity Ghost Stories is one of its best, partly due to her somber delivery. It’s as unnerving as when Grandma yells at you and when the funky church medley lady from Saturday Night Live gets serious, you pay attention.
And why are we paying attention to a cable TV show from 2011? Kristen and Will of Bloody FM’s Guide to the Unknown discovered that all of Celebrity Ghost Stories is available on YouTube now, leading them to make episodes covering these stories a recurring fave. While most everyday people struggle to get enough money, Maya Rudolph wrestles with giving all of hers away when she returns as Molly Novak in the season two premiere of Loot, now streaming on AppleTV+.
In the season one finale of the comedy, which aired on Aug. 12, 2022, Molly declared plans to give away every penny of her $120 billion divorce settlement from tech tycoon John Novak (Adam Scott) after a publicly embarrassing business blunder. But even with the personnel issues as head of the Wells Foundation behind her — now that she and executive director Sofia Salinas (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez) are on the same page — Molly finds that being a career philanthropist isn’t as easy as it sounds.

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

It’s a feat only 29 other SNL cast members have pulled off: With tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Live, Heidi Gardner has appeared in 500 sketches.
That’s according to longtime SNL statistician Mike Murray, who hosts The Saturday Night Network’s weekly SNL by the Numbers podcast. (Full disclosure: The Snn is LateNighter’s podcast partner.)
Tonight’s game show sketch “Couple Goals” was Gardner’s 500th sketch.
Gardner, who’s in her seventh SNL season, is only the 30th cast member to hit the 500 sketch milestone, an honor she shares with two other current cast members, Mikey Day and (of course) Kenan Thompson, whose 21 seasons on the show put him at the top of the list.
Lest you think there’s a direct correlation between one’s tenure on the show and their sketch count, there are quite a few SNL cast members who’ve made it to...

Some film festivals take themselves entirely too seriously. Not South by Southwest, the Austin-based multidisciplinary mega-event where amped-up crowds welcome comedies with open arms — the raunchier the better. This year, one logline stood out as especially promising: “A 30-year-old Indian American virgin gets a job teaching high school Sex Ed.” Alas, “Doin’ It” doesn’t cut it (it’s basically 2014 Haley Joel Osment comedy “Sex Ed” with a cultural spin). The concept is funny, but the execution feels forced, in part because the substitute in question (played by Lilly Singh) is supposed to be following an abstinence-based curriculum. In theory, her deep-seated celibacy should make her perfect for the job.
The movie aims to combat the shame around all aspects of human sexuality, which seems like an admirable but inevitably controversial goal. But “Doin’ It” goes too far straight out of the gate, opening with an embarrassment no teenager can...

Sex is a lot like filmmaking. You dive in when you’re ready, trust your companions, and learn from experience. Few people start out as experts, but there’s beauty in being allowed to try and fail in different environments over the years.
In her first feature film lead, comedian and former late night host Lilly Singh plays Maya, a computer engineer who takes a part-time job teaching sex education. After an incident in her teens led to her mother moving them back to India, Maya not only repressed her sexuality but grew to actively fear it — and now she’s teaching teens about sex despite having never done it herself. Singh, Neel Patel, and director Sara Zandieh co-wrote the film, which premiered at SXSW on March 12.
Sonia Dhillon Tully plays Maya’s hyperconservative single mother Veena, a role that has unfortunately been tread and retread in the South Asian-American film ouevre.

Lilly Singh is making her move to the big screen. The multihyphenate creator, who achieved success on YouTube a decade ago using the handle Superwoman, is the star of a new film called Doin’ It.

Maya Rudolph’s billionaire character is back.
Apple TV+ unveiled the season 2 trailer for Loot on Thursday, teasing what’s to come a year after Rudolph’s Molly Wells settles a public divorce from tech billionaire John Novak (Adam Scott) and is thriving as the head of her philanthropic organization, the Wells Foundation.
“Focused mainly on her charity work, Molly has sworn off any new relationships with men and embarks on a wellness journey. "Friends" was one of the most popular shows on television from the mid '90s into the early 2000s. Running for 10 seasons, and a total of 236 episodes, the series turned every single one of its main cast members into television superstars, and some of them even went on to have very lucrative film careers. When you're at the top of the TV ratings charts, there's one privilege that is truly an honor: hosting "Saturday Night Live."
"Saturday Night Live" is not only a late night staple, but it's a comedy institution. And since "Friends" was all the rage, almost everyone got to take the stage in Studio 8H and host an episode of "SNL." Though Matt Le Blanc never graced the "SNL" stage as host, Courteney Cox was first of the "Friends" cast to get the gig in April 1995, and David Schwimmer followed in October 1995. The Groundlings will host an improv musical fundraising event on Oct. 26, featuring Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig and Will Forte. The event, held at the Performing Arts Center at Vista Del Mar, will benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund to support below-the-line workers impacted by the strikes.
“One Night Only,” created and directed by Groundlings Main Company member Andrew Leeds, is a full production of a well-known Broadway musical. The catch? The improvisers are given the script and their roles only 24 hours in advance.
“These strikes have taken a terrible toll on our amazing crews, and it isn’t over yet. Even with the WGA strike ending, most crew members won’t be able to start work again until the SAG-AFTRA deal is ratified,” Leeds said in a statement. “Even then, many will be fighting to survive as they wait for productions to start back up.

Network TV just can’t quit Wendi McLendon-Covey! NBC announced a series order for the new comedy series “St. Denis Medical” Friday, which will bring the actress back to primetime shortly after wrapping a 10-season run on ABC’s “The Goldbergs.”
The mockumentary-style show from “Superstore” writers Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin follows “an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital where the dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity,” per the show’s official logline. McClendon-Covey stars as Joyce, the hospital’s administrator. The show also stars David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Mekki Leeper and Kahyun Kim.
“Hospitals are funny. They don’t mean to be, and they may not be funny if it’s happening to you, but a lot of funny things happen in hospitals,” McLendon-Covey told TheWrap of the role in a recent interview. “This would be kind of like,...

As ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” continues to be hailed as a revelatory comedy series that puts classic networks back on the TV awards map, attention should also be paid to the other great non-streaming sitcoms of its age. Take, for instance, “American Auto,” which, after two strong seasons, has proven a worthy successor to past NBC workplace comedies like “The Office” and “Superstore.” At a time when increasingly dark dramedies dominate much of the television landscape, it’s important to keep part of the spotlight on feel-good laffers, and “American Auto” stands as proof that there is more than one such model on the lot.
“American Auto” primarily takes place in the Detroit corporate offices of fictional car company Payne Motors, which has recently fallen under the control of ill-equipped CEO Katherine Hastings (a perfectly cast Ana Gasteyer). With each passing episode, her central goal of at least keeping pace...
