A new episode of the Real Slashers video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking back at a movie that gave us two iconic slashers for the price of one: the 2003 monster mash Freddy vs. Jason (watch it Here)! Somehow it’s been over twenty years since that long-awaited match-up reached theatres screens, and you can hear all about what happened when Freddy Krueger crossed paths with Jason Voorhees in the video embedded above.
Directed by Ronny Yu (who previously worked with another iconic slasher on Bride of Chucky) from a screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark J. Swift (with an uncredited polish by David S. Goyer), Freddy vs. Jason has the following synopsis: Get ready for the ultimate showdown! It’s been nearly ten years since Freddy, from the Nightmare on Elm Street series, invaded people’s dreams to exact his deadly form of revenge and murder.

Billy the Kid? More like Billy the Crisis Averter!
MGM+ on Wednesday unveiled the key art and official trailer for Billy the Kid Season 2, and it promises to be filled with action.

"When shots are fired, the conflict erupts into the bloody Lincoln County War. Amidst the fighting, Billy will struggle to hang onto his soul—and to the love of his life."

The 2000 film Ginger Snaps (watch it Here) is my all-time favorite werewolf movie. That was followed by a sequel – Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed – and a very unexpected prequel – Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning – and while I’m not as enamored with them as I am with the original movie, I do get some enjoyment out of watching them. The oddball prequel especially. If you’re a fan of Ginger Snaps trilogy as well and happen to have a Region B (or region free) Blu-ray player, you’ll be glad to hear that Second Sight Films is packaging all three movies together in a limited edition UK box set that’s going to be released on October 30th. Just in time for Halloween, which happens to be the setting of the first movie.
Copies of the Ginger Snaps trilogy Blu-ray box set can be pre-ordered directly from Second Sight Films.

Billy the Kid will be back on TV screens very soon.
MGM+ this week that Billy the Kid Season 2 will debut on Sunday, October 15, at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.
There is a little bit of a catch:
Four episodes of the season will air this year, with the final four being held until 2024.
A reason for the decision has not been revealed, but there's a good chance it has something to do with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

‘Freddy vs. Jason’ 20 Years Later – The Ultimate Horror Battle Still Satisfies After All These Years
I was somewhat of a late bloomer when it came to my exposure to horror. I lacked the cool older relative or friend that seems to serve as a customary gateway for many genre fans. I had seen a few horror movies growing up (Child’s Play and Scream each terrified me at different points in my youth), but seeing Freddy vs. Jason at the tender age of 15 is single-handedly responsible for the horror fandom that has consumed my life ever since. Without the movie — which hit theaters 20 years ago today — I very likely wouldn’t be writing for Bloody Disgusting now.
I knew of Freddy and Jason through pop culture osmosis, but I hadn’t seen any of the combined 17 films that comprised the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises when Freddy vs. Jason piqued my interest. Even with the advent of Netflix’s DVDs by mail,...

It’s time for David Harbour to take a turn portraying Father Christmas. Known for other fatherly roles like Jim Hopper in Netflix’s “Stranger Things” and Alexei in Marvel’s “Black Widow,” the actor takes on a Christmas night crime in addition to Santa’s yearly duty of delivering presents across the entire planet in one night in the R-rated actioner “Violent Night.” John Leguizamo plays the bad guy — Scrooge.
From director Tommy Wirkola, the film has a runtime of 1 hour and 52 minutes. Within that time frame, David Harbour’s Santa Claus embarks on his mission to drop off presents, when John Leguizamo and his cronies interrupt the regularly scheduled program by attempting a robbery of a very rich family.
Fans of David Harbour and or John Leguizamo may be wondering how to watch “Violent Night,” and we have the details.

Violent Night is a season comedy action movie that features a rather burnt out and disenchanted Santa Claus, who has to dig deep to muster a fight for what is right.
The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola, and stars David Harbour (Santa), Beverly D’Angelo and the great John Leguizamo. The original and funny screenplay is written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller.
A comedy that at times is completely absurd, amusing and funny, at others very violent, and even so, manages to convey the Christmas spirit and ambiance. We have not felt so much Christmas fervor since Bad Santa.

It is Christmas Eve at the Lightstone household. The highly guarded estate is safer than a fort, so that the extraordinarily wealthy family can spend quality time celebrating the season festivities – sibling rivalry and all. However sophisticated the security measures are, it does not deter a group of dangerous...

Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for the upcoming holiday film "Violent Night," starring David Harbour. This comes shortly before the movie makes its debut at New York Comic Con on October 7, 2022. This happy holiday romp (kidding ... this will be just as violent as the title says) showcased some footage earlier this year at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, with /Film's own Ben Pearson describing it as a combination of "John Wick" and "Krampus." In the film, mercenaries attack a wealthy family's estate on Christmas Eve, and jolly old Saint Nicholas has to save the holiday ... however he can.
The film has been described as "a coal-dark holiday thriller that says you should always bet on red." If you want to know more about the action, David Leitch, Kelly McCormick, and Guy Danella are producing through their 87North Productions, which recently opened a training and stunt facility in Hollywood. After launching a delayed hybrid version of its annual event last summer, the Tribeca Festival is back with a multi-pronged approach to its vast programming this month. Once again, the festival will host a number of in-person events, including films, talks, masterclasses, and starry events, but those looking to enjoy the event from home will still be able to participate, thanks to the Tribeca At Home platform.
This year’s festival will open with the Jennifer Lopez Netflix documentary “Halftime” on June 8. The film, directed by Oscar-nominated Tribeca alum Amanda Micheli (“Vegas Baby”), will host its world premiere at the festival before premiering on the streamer June 14. The festival will close with the Al Sharpton-centric documentary “Loudmouth” on June 18, and also host a gala screening of B.J. Novak’s “Vengeance.” In between, it will screen a variety of films from new names, rising stars, and old favorites.

With another awards season (thankfully) over, the time has come to look ahead to the year in cinema. Anyone concerned that the release slate for 2022 will deliver the goods shouldn’t worry: The Cannes Film Festival is on it. The year’s most glamorous movie gathering is also the most reliable place for major international cinema to take flight, and with the lineup scheduled to be announced April 14, we couldn’t be more excited. Each year, we do some digging, a little guesswork, and some wishful thinking for good measure to come up with a list of films that seem poised to make the cut.
As wish lists go, this one isn’t pure fantasy: For the most part, we only include films that seem to have a good shot at making the cut. That means we aren’t pretending that Ari Aster’s “Disappointment Blvd” will be ready any earlier than the fall,...

It introduces fans of Blade, Buffy, and even Abraham Lincoln, to Tyson (Rob Collins) and Shanika (Shantae Barnes-Cowan), two Indigenous hunters on a quest to eradicate the last outpost of vampires in the middle of their south Australian desert town. The series’ originality stems primarily from its backdrop and the barbarous colonial past that informs it — although “Firebite” isn’t a history lesson as much as a celebration of Aboriginal agency, telling an entertaining story of a human battle against literal bloodsucking parasites, in a biting take on manifest destiny.

Tyler Mitchell’s philosophy has always been “run to love”.
So when Film Victoria called him in early 2019 expressing admiration for the inaugural Impact accelerator program he ran with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer in the US, it was enough to plant the seed for an Australian version of the initiative.
“If someone loves what you are doing, you should embrace that,” he told If.
“We started talking and between Film Victoria, Screen Australia, and the states, there was tremendous support and a real partnership, not just financially, but with the mission we have.”
It’s a collaboration that will continue this year when Impact Australia returns in person following an inaugural virtual program in 2020.
Delivered in conjunction with Gentle Giant Media Group, Impact Australia 2 will pair local creators with leading screenwriters, or ‘shapers’, who over eight weeks will help them craft their project and prepare them for pitch day in front of buyers.

For more than 25 years, Brendan Fletcher has been in the entertainment industry. He got his start back in 1995 when he was still a teenager, and he hasn’t slowed down a bit. In an industry when child actors either end up dealing with mental health issues and/or addiction by the time they reach early adulthood or they fizzle out and move on in their lives, he’s managed to avoid both. Fletcher has gone on to continue his acting career in a big way, and his fans are looking to learn as much about him as they can. 1. He’s

"I'm not crazy, you know." 4Digital Media has released an official US trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Open 24 Hours, the latest from filmmaker Padraig Reynolds. This originally premiered in 2018 at FrightFest and Fantastic Fest, and it also played at Screamfest, Sitges, and the Telluride Horror Show. Starring Vanessa Grasse as Mary - who suffers from severe paranoia and hallucinations. After setting her serial killer boyfriend on fire, a woman gets a job at an all-night gas station. However, left alone to her own devices, her paranoia and hallucinations return with furious consequences. Customers and friends suddenly start turning up dead and mutilated all around her. Also stars Brendan Fletcher, Cole Vigue, Emily Tennant, and Daniel O’Meara. Why do so many trailers show so much? But I suppose not that many are going to watch this one anyway, might as well entice them with something. Here's the official...

Having just left prison for setting her ex-boyfriend, serial killer James (Cole Vigue), on fire Mary (Vanessa Grasse) gets a job in an all night gas station. Still haunted by hallucinations, on her first night she begins seeing James around many corners, but there are more dangers in Mary’s first shift than her imagination.
The concept of Padraig Reynolds’ screenplay suggests something more morally complex than your standard issue slasher. He sets up a final girl who isn’t as easy to root for as the genre’s usual heroine, not only did she set someone on fire, but we discover that she has been shunned by the community for simply standing by and watching while her ex murdered several women. This could throw open a lot of ideas; allowing the film to engage with coercive and abusive relationships and the trauma that results from them, the immense pressure...

Open 24 Hours is the latest film from horror director Padraig Reynolds (Rites of Spring). Focusing on a paranoid and delusional woman, Open 24 Hours takes place at an all-night gas station. Here, Mary (Vanessa Grasse) begins to see tragedies from her past. This title had a few film festival appearances in 2018, including Fantastic Fest. Now, Open 24 Hours is set to show on home entertainment formats. And, this title also stars: Brendan Fletcher (Rampage), Cole Vigue ("iZombie") and Emily Tennant. The film's North American artwork and trailer are hosted here. The trailer shows a hooded figure and so does the DVD/Blu-ray artwork. Hooded in a rain jacket, this villain hovers over an injured victim. Offering two taglines: "pray you never run out of gas" and "welcome to the graveyard shift," the movie poster is haunted by an eerie green light. One of the better horror film posters this year,...

Due to Covid-19 it is now being held as a virtual program, with a twice-weekly speaker series. It will culminate in Pitch Day, hoped to take place in Melbourne in late 2020, with the ultimate goal of the creators selling their projects.
The 14 creators from across Australia are working on 10 projects:
Carrie Anderson (Nsw) – Bound (TV hour)
Luke Goodall (Vic) and Marc Gallagher (Vic) – Robots Inc. (TV half hour)
Sukhjit Khalsa (Wa) and Perun Bonser (Wa) – One of the Good Ones (TV...

Premiering on Sunday night, October 27, HBO’s “Mrs. Fletcher” is a limited series told in seven half-hour episodes about a college-bound young man (Jackson White) coming of age and his mother (Kathryn Hahn) coming of middle age. Like “The Leftovers” it’s based on a novel by Tom Perrotta, and also like “The Leftovers” it was created by the author himself. But do critics admire this adaptation as much as they did Perrotta’s last one?
As of this writing the series has a MetaCritic score of 72 based on 10 reviews counted: seven positive, three mixed. The consensus on Rotten Tomatoes is similar. They rate movies and TV shows on a pass/fail scale, and they score it 77% fresh based on 13 reviews — 10 of which are positive. So most critics are admiring of it, but even more so of the woman who plays the title character.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That was my first thought when I heard that Titan were replacing the excellent Robotech book with Robotech Remix. Since 2015, Brian Wood, Simon Furman, Marco Turini and Hendry Prasetya routinely turned in outstanding stories, both script and art wise. The characters were as well fleshed out as could have been expected with the animated source material. Like all good things though it came to an end, and on the plus side it never outstayed its welcome.
So, Robotech Remix clearly isn’t just going to be more of the same. At first glance, the art has reverted to the manga/anime style most commonly associated with Robotech, and the book is supposed to be a sequel of sorts to the last one, both of which liberally took as their...

Henry Cavill hunts a split-personality murderer in this throwaway throwback to the days of straight-to-video shlock
These days, most younger readers probably don’t even understand the meaning of “straight to video”. But back in the day, it was a label slapped on films, often genre fare, so unloved by even their rights holders that only contractual obligation ensured they would see the light of day. This crime thriller, with its lurid serial-killer conceit and a cast peppered with talents who must have just needed the money, is a nostalgic throwback to those straight-to-video guilty pleasures of yore.
Henry Cavill glowers manfully throughout as a hardened detective named, with on-the-nose nominative determinism, Marshall, pursuing a sicko in Minnesota who kidnaps and imprisons young women in his dank torture dungeon, damaging their hearing in order to play out his compulsions. The twist is that Marshall and his colleagues, including police commissioner...
