After choosing not to address the Harvey Weinstein situation last weekend, “Saturday Night Live” took on the scandal in a sketch set at a New York Film Festival panel last night. Viola Davis (Leslie Jones), Marion Cotillard (Cecily Strong), and the fictional Debette Goldry (Kate McKinnon) discuss sexual harassment in Hollywood — namely the “uncanny” resemblance between Weinstein’s face and genitals.

“Have I ever been sexually harassed?” asks Goldry, who’s many decades her colleagues’ senior. “Good Friday, where do you want me to start? Women being harassed is Hollywood.” Throughout the sketch, Davis and Cotillard give serious, measured responses to the questions asked by their host (Aidy Bryant) — and Goldry goes over the top with her recollections.
“I actually did have one meeting with Harvey,” she mentions. “I was invited to his hotel room,...

'Saturday Night Live' Takes Aim At Harvey Weinstein Scandal, Pulls No Punches With Biting Commentary
Saturday Night Live took on the Harvey Weinstein scandal over the weekend with some seriously biting commentary that addressed the allegations against the producer, and the culture of sexism and sexual harassment that permeates Hollywood.
Colin Jost and Michael Che opened this week's "Weekend Update" by breaking down some of the excuses Weinstein presented for his alleged actions, and his reported intent to seek treatment for sex addiction.
"Somehow, I don't think that's going to help anybody," Jost said. "He doesn't need sex rehab, he needs a specialized facility where there are no women, no contact with the outside world, metal bars, and it's a prison."
Che went on to explain why the scandal was a difficult subject to tackle for Saturday Night Live and comics in general.
"This is a tough spot for a comedian, because it's so hard to make jokes about sexual assault, but it's so easy to make jokes about a guy that looks...

Vera Farmiga has found her first post-Bates Motel TV role in Amazon’s upcoming sci-fi anthology series Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.
RelatedGame of Thrones‘ Richard Madden Joins Amazon’s Electric Dreams Anthology
Farmiga appears in the standalone episode “Kill All Others,” in which “a man hangs dead from a lamppost, apparently murdered and inexplicably ignored by passersby, after a politician (Farmiga) makes a shocking statement encouraging violence,” our sister site Deadline reports.
The installment also features Mel Rodriguez (The Last Man on Earth) as an extraordinarily average man and Sarah Baker (Big Little Lies, Louie) as his spouse.

Once again, Wamg attended the 2017 Turner Classic Movie Film Festival in Hollywood, and as always, it did not disappoint!
Ahhh…so many movies, so little time to cover everything, but here are some highlights of my favorite movies of this year’s festival.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)
Shown poolside at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, this classic was perfect for opening night. Brightly colored inflatable balls and lights floated in the pool like some of Wonka’s best candies as guests enjoyed snacks and cocktails on a beautiful spring evening. In attendance for this special screening were some of the cast members of the original movie. Miss Veruca Salt herself, Julie Dawn Cole; Mike Teevee, also known as Paris Themmen; and one of the original Oompaloompas, Rusty Goffe.
Along with host Illeana Douglas, they recounted some great memories of being on the set of the film in Germany more than 45 years ago.

This month is packed with great television. A lot of our favorite shows are returning for new seasons and, in one special case, a resurrected series. Plus there are exciting shows and movies making debuts. That’s why we’re introducing a weekly guide to help keep track of everything worth watching, whether it’s on broadcast, cable, or streaming.
Here’s your breakdown, day by day (and all times Eastern), for April 9–15:
SUNDAYFeud: Bette and Joan (FX, 10pm)
It’ll be difficult to top last week’s brilliantly paced Oscars-set episode, but by now we’re in for the homestretch of the story of Davis and Crawford. In this week’s episode, “Hagsploitation,” the two rivals are sought to reunite for a follow-up to What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, and not to spoil film history, but we’re in for a look at the making of 1964’s Hush…Hush...

The movie-awards season is a mountain range with many peaks — perhaps too many — the inevitable valleys that sag between them and, finally, an Everest that inspires your second wind and an excited sprint: The Academy Awards. Here are my predictions, and my predilections.
The Academy Awards kicks off live on ABC on Sunday, Feb. 26, with a 7 p.m. Et preshow and 8:30 p.m. ceremony.
Best Picture: La La Land
Fourteen nominations for a chamber musical that pays homage to classics of the genre (including some French ones) is arguably too much of a good thing. It’s as if...

Susan Sarandon is not holding back!
Ever the straight-shooter, the 70-year-old actress describes her sexual orientation these days as "open" in a new, candid interview.
Watch: Susan Sarandon Stuns in Cleavage-Baring Pantsuit, Talks Evolution of 'Women Over a Certain Age' in Hollywood
"My sexual orientation is up for grabs, I guess you could say," the Feud star revealed to PrideSource.
Sarandon, though, says she hasn't been able to take full advantage of her sexual fluidity because of her past relationships with ex-husbands Chris Sarandon, who she married at age 20, and Tim Robbins. Now, much to her alarm, she's not being courted by many men or women.
"I'm a serial monogamist," she said, "so I haven't really had a large dating career. I haven't exactly been in the midst of a lot of offers of any kind. I'm still not! I don't know what's going on! But I think back in the '60s it just was much...

Every year the best and brightest from across the global film industry assemble at the Beverly Hilton for the annual Academy nominees lunch and group photo.
This year, 163 nominees showed up.
First, everyone piles into the ballroom for champagne and hobnobbing. Documentary nominee Raoul Peck, whose “I Am Not Your Negro” is kicking it at the box office, was hanging with fellow nominee Ezra Edelman, whose “O.J.: Made in America” won the DGA award on Saturday.
Swedish filmmaker Hannes Holm (“A Man Called Ove”) met with his fellow foreign nominees Sunday night — they were in touch with “The Salesman” director, Asghar Farhadi, who’s boycotting the Oscars — to discuss the Muslim travel ban. He promised to let me know what comes of these ongoing discussions.

Over the years, we’ve heard from our readers that one of the most important things we can do is to help you discover movies that may have slipped by mainstream audiences. And often just as important, our readers ask that we highlight voices that are in the minority in Hollywood. “It’s that time of year….” for another big holiday themed comedy. We’ve had a big family yuletide mix of laughs and tears with Almost Christmas, that’s, ahem, almost a month old now. That bit of tinsel joined a long list of similar movie comedies like Love The Coopers and a film now considered an annual viewing tradition for many, National Lampoon’S Christmas Vacation. Yes, they’re all holiday hijinks with the family, but that other family is largely ignored. I’m speaking of the “workplace family”, the folks you bond with while “on the job” (many “workaholics” spent more time with them than their spouses and kids). Ah, the studios got the hint, so the newest movie present under the big multiplex tree is all set to be unwrapped. Looks like we’re all invited to the big Office Christmas Party.

Over the weekend, the Television Academy handed out the Creative Arts Emmys — i.e., the awards not quite glamorous to be squeezed into this coming Sunday's 68th Primetime Emmy Awards telecast on ABC. Lots of interesting things happened, including Game of Thrones picking up 9 awards (the Creative Arts includes most of the technical categories), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend sharing an award of choreography but losing both song categories for which it was eligible (to Diane Warren's song from The Hunting Ground and the Jessica Jones theme music), and more. But the one that got my attention the most — and convinced me to finally change the way I do my annual Emmy preview column — was Character Actress Margo Martindale's repeat win for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama for her work on The Americans. When the news of the Ghostbusters reboot broke, I worked at a company that has a notoriously terrifying comments section; in the entire history of my time there only one article required that comments be shut down: the announcement of an all female Ghostbusters. Contained within that comment section were some of the most violent assassinations of the female gender that I’ve ever seen. No one could have predicted the firestorm that would haunt this film. On the surface, Ghostbusters is merely a new addition to an old franchise that general audiences may -- or may not -- be familiar with. So how has this little comedy ignited an international firestorm? I was one of those not much interested in a reboot, remake, or sequel in the franchise. Dan Aykroyd had been teasing the prospect for so many years that eventually it felt best to just leave well enough...

It's been decades since Bette Davis and Joan Crawford collaborated onscreen for the iconic film Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, but, if you ask Susan Sarandon, not much has necessarily changed.
The actress tells Entertainment Weekly and People at the Cannes Film Festival that her new FX series, Feud, is "the examination of Hollywood through the time of Bette Davis and Joan Crawford."
"The question is whether or not things have actually changed that much," Sarandon explains. "Do we pit women against women? Do the studios still have more power than individual women?"

In the midst of March Madness and with the Kentucky Derby around the corner, the first pitch of baseball season is almost here.
A quote from Field Of Dreams best describes America’s national pastime, “The one constant throughout the years has been baseball.”
To mark the start of the 2016 season, here’s our list of the Best Baseball movies.
The Bad News Bears
Considered by some to be the best baseball movie ever, the film celebrates its 40th anniversary this month (April 7, 1976). In an article from the NY Daily News, one line reads, “It is a movie that someone like the late Philip Seymour Hoffman called his favorite, and one which resonates on many levels today, with all different generations.”
Who are we to argue with greatness?

Last night one of the contestants on University Challenge got quite a few people in a tizz with his choice of outfit.
Kamil Shah from King's College, Cambridge swung by Jeremy Paxman's lair in what can only be described as a battered pleather vest. With a chunky chain.
The collective eyebrows of the internet were naturally raised

CB4
Directed by Tamra Davis
Written by Nelson George, Robert LoCash and Chris Rock
1993, USA
Back in 1993, two low-budget mockumentary-style comedies based on Gangsta Rap were released. The better of the two is Rusty Cundieff’s Canadian indie gem Fear of a Black Hat, chronicling the rise and fall of Nwh, a not particularly talented but always controversial hip-hop group. The second was CB4, about the rise to fame of Mc Gusto, Stab Master Arson, and Dead Mike, members of the rap group Cell Block 4. The similarities between the two are uncanny, so much so that one would think someone got their greedy hands on the other script and decided to shamefully steal the idea.
Written by music critic Nelson George and Saturday Night Live’s Chris Rock (who also plays the lead role of Albert, a k a Mc Gusto), this spoof on gangsta rap targets controversial rap groups (specifically N.W.A.) and deliberately provocative,...

Big Bird is familiar to countless people of multiple generations all around the world who grew up watching “Sesame Street.” But who’s the man behind (or inside, actually) the 8-foot-tall, perpetually six-years-old, 4,000-feathers-covered bird? That would be Caroll Spinney, who has puppeteered Big Bird since the first “Sesame Street” episode aired in 1969. He also puppeteers Big Bird’s next-door neighbor, Oscar the Grouch. Now 81, Spinney still works on the PBS show as both characters and has no plans for retirement. Spinney is the subject of new documentary “I Am Big Bird” (now available to VOD and iTunes in a limited theatrical release), a sweet, reverent tribute to the man behind the yellow feathers. The film puts a spotlight on both his joyous and difficult times on “Sesame Street” and features archival footage and interviews with Spinney, his wife and several “Sesame Street” cast and crew members. Murder in Successville starts on BBC Three tonight, but even though we've seen the first episode, we'll be damned if we can describe it to you.
Is it a reality show? A comedy? An impressions show? A murder mystery? A prank show? Well, it's kind of all of those things at once - and that's what makes it pretty special indeed.
It's honestly hard to describe the series, but the basic idea is this - a celebrity sidekick teams up with the brilliantly awful Di Sleet (played by Tom Davis) to solve a murder mystery. But that's making it a little too simple, because what we didn't mention is that the celebrity taking part has no idea what they're getting themselves in for. And we didn't mention that the 'murder mystery' is taking place in the fictional town of Successville, populated by celebrities - or at least enjoyably terrible impressions of celebrities.

Deborah Meaden will swap Dragons' Den for crime-solving when she appears on BBC Three's new show Murder in Successville.
The show sees a host of celebrity sidekicks teaming up with Di Sleet (Tom Davis) to solve various crimes in the fictional town of Successville.
The famous faces have no idea what they're getting themselves into before filming begins, but with Successville populated by celebrities, will they be able to arrest the right suspect?
Meaden will be challenged to solve an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery, but will she be able to decide whether Lady Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, retired Scout master Boris Johnson, invalid aunt Nicki Minaj or the suspicious butler Jay Z was responsible?
"I had the best time and actually got real and uncontrollable giggles more than once," Meaden said. "The cast were unbelievably good especially as they were improvising around my reactions. I was so immersed at times I...

They have no idea what they're getting into before the filming begins, but with the town populated by various famous faces, will they be able to correctly arrest the right suspect?
James will have the difficult task of deciding whether the Reverend Gary Barlow, strip club owner Mary Berry or casino owner Justin Bieber are responsible for a murder.
"It was genuinely the most fun I've ever had in front of a camera," James said. "Well, except that time at uni which I promised everyone I wouldn't talk about publicly. It confirms what I always feared - I'd be a terrible policeman."

John Singleton is poised to be the next filmmaker to make the leap to television, as FX has picked up the pilot for Snowfall, a show co-created by Singleton. The press release had this summary of the series.
Los Angeles 1981. A storm is coming and its name is cocaine. Snowfall is a one-hour drama set against the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it. The story follows three characters on a violent collision course: Franklin Saint, young street entrepreneur on a quest for power; Gustavo Zapata, a Mexican wrestler turned gangster in search of his American dream; and Logan Miller, a prominent family’s “black sheep” desperate to escape his father’s shadow.
Singleton will also direct the pilot.

For one night only, Jamie Laing is swapping Made in Chelsea for Murder in Successville.
Laing will become a celebrity sidekick to help out Dci Sleet (Tom Davis) investigate a murder in a fictional town populated by 'celebrities'.
After a gangland killing, he has to investigate various suspects: the Carr brothers (Alan and Jimmy), Darcey Bussell, and the town's notorious gangsters, Harry Styles and his mob.
Laing will be put through his paces by Sleet, but can he name the right suspect?
"Working with Di Sleet was like sitting my chemistry exam - I had no idea what was going to happen," Laing joked. "It was an amazing experience and one I would love to do again.
"I feel like I could definitely become a policeman! Who wouldn't want to have a car chase?"
Murder in Successville begins with Laing's episode on Wednesday (May 6) at 10pm on BBC Three.

All week long our writers will debate: Which was the greatest film year of the past half century. Click here for a complete list of our essays. How to decide in the grand scheme of things which film year stands above all others? History gives us no clear methodology to unravel this thorny but extremely important question. Is it the year with the highest average score of movies? So a year that averages out to a B + might be the winner over a field strewn with B’s, despite a few A +’s. Or do a few masterpieces lift up a year so far that whatever else happened beyond those three or four films is of no consequence? Both measures are worthy, and the winner by either of those would certainly be a year not to be sneezed at. But I contend the only true measure of a year’s...

Why ABC handed Thursdays to Shonda Rhimes: Because she gets it Shonda Rhimes and her “ShondaLand” gets that social media is a key ingredient in promoting your show. But that’s not all. As Alexander Hardy notes, "With a decade of primetime hits and misses under her belt, Rhimes is a master at creating bustling content, hooking viewers emotionally, and assaulting the senses with just the right amounts the saccharine and the stomach turning. ITV2 has commissioned a new sitcom from Bad Education writer Freddy Syborn.
Cockroaches will be a post-apocalyptic romantic comedy starring Daniel Lawrence Taylor (Uncle) and Esther Smith (Skins).
The pair play Tom and Suze, two 19-year-olds hoping for a better future, before nuclear war hits. With the world about to end, they have sex, but unexpectedly survive the apocalypse.
Ten years later, the pair return from Suze's basement as 29-year-olds searching for the remnants of pre-war England.
The comedy will deal with what happens after a nuclear holocaust, including boredom, laziness, relationships, money, cannibalism and leadership.
Nigel Planer, Jaime Winstone, Caroline Quentin, Dan Renton Skinner, Sarah Daykin and Tom Davis will also make appearances.
Jack Whitehall will also cameo as Oscar, the irritating ex-boyfriend of Suze.
Angela Jain, Director of Digital Channels and Acquisitions for ITV, said: "I never thought I'd be happy to say we have Cockroaches at ITV...
