- Critically acclaimed television, film and stage actor Chad L. Coleman is best known for his role as fan-favorite 'Tyreese' in one of the most popular cable series of all time, Golden Globe® nominated series "The Walking Dead" 'and as the reformed criminal "Dennis 'Cutty' Wise" in Emmy® award nominated HBO drama series "The Wire." Coleman is now set to star in the remake of the popular 1977 miniseries and of one of the most celebrated TV programs of all time, "Roots," which also stars Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Mekhi Phifer. Coleman plays 'Mingo,' a stern, no-nonsense slave who works under 'Tom Lea' (Meyers) and keeps the Lea Plantation afloat. The highly-anticipated event series will premiere on Memorial Day (May 30th) airing over four consecutive nights on History/Lifetime/A&E.
Coleman will reprise his role as former marine 'Fred Johnson' in the second season of Syfy space drama "The Expanse" alongside Thomas Jane and Steven Strait. Additionally, Coleman will star as 'Coach Eddie Milletti' in the new Hulu exclusive "Freakish," a 10-episode horror series produced by Awesomeness TV where the characters must fight for their lives after a meltdown at the local chemical plant unleashes predatory mutant freaks. The ensemble cast also includes Leo Howard, Liza Koshy, and Adam Hicks, among many others. Although Coleman is best known for his dynamic roles on hit shows "The Walking Dead" and "The Wire," Coleman is also widely recognized for his comedic turn as "Gary Miller," the ex-husband of "Nikki Miller" (Kate Finnerman) and father of manipulative daughter "Mackenzie" (Aisha Dee) in the FOX Television comedy "I Hate My Teenage Daughter" and for his recurring role as 'Z' in comedy "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Coleman was placed in the foster care system with his two older brothers and two older sisters when he was 11 months old but eventually returned living with his grandmother at the age of 14. Coleman's passion for acting was inspired after joining an after school program where he acted in their production of "Wonderful Town." Coleman spent 4 years serving in the Army as a video cameraman stationed at the Pentagon in DC. After gaining much experience, Coleman made his way to New York where he starred in a number of Broadway projects including the critically acclaimed August Wilson production "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" on Broadway alongside Meryl Streep.
Growing up in the foster care system, Coleman devotes time to working with children in similar circumstances and underprivileged communities.
