The British Council has appointed Paul Callaghan as its first programme manager for games and interactive.
Callaghan, currently a lecturer of Games Design and Development at the University of East London, will take up the post from Jan 16 2017.
He will be responsible for developing new connections and collaborations in the worlds of gaming and interactive media, with an initial focus on Europe, the Americas and Asia.
He will be based in the UK Arts Department, splitting his time between the Film and Creative Economy teams.
Callaghan has worked in the field of games since 1998 as a programmer, creative producer, designer, writer and teacher. He has also sat on the advisory board for the BFI’s Future Film Festival.

A second series of ABC sitcom Twentysomething has received funding from Screen Australia as part of the agency’s Multi-Platform Production Program.
Created and written by Jess Harris, Twentysomething episodes will be directed by Harris and Mika Tran and is produced by Lowdown’s Nicole Minchin of High Wire Films.
The first season aired last year on ABC2. This season will pick up with friends Jess, played by Harris, and Josh, played by Josh Schmidt, returning from abroad as thirtysomething looms.
Twentysomething is among four projects to receive the funding. Included also is an interactive animation for tablets called A Cautionary Tail, an interactive documentary called Ringbalin: River Stories and a serious game called The Voyage.

The former glamour model thinks that her amazing business acumen should win her a spot on Lord Alan Sugar’s show and has admitted that she thinks she’d be good at making her point in the boardroom.
She told the Daily Star Sunday: “I love the show and have always wanted to give it a try.
“I think the concept is really good.
“I’ve been watching Junior Apprentice every week and love it. Some of those kids are really talented.
