Nicolas Cage deserves at least one more installment to his action adventure National Treasure franchise. However, even after 17 years of the release of the second installment, the updates on the movie franchise have been vehemently silent. While most fans want National Treasure to be a trilogy, Cage would need an addition of one more movie to complement that.

National Treasure has been quite a success, but Disney somewhat moved away from the movie series. While the studio put the Cage’s franchise into a coma, a new Dinesy show, National Treasure: Edge of History, was at work but not featuring Cage. After one season, the show was canceled. Now, fans finally have a positive update on the original franchise.

Despite Nicolas Cage’s vehement remarks about not being game for a National Treasure 3, director Jon Turteltaub is confident the project is happening, with the original cast along for the ride. Speaking with the National Treasure Hunt podcast, Turteltaub said he’s “100%” confident the sequel could happen with the original cast intact, including Cage, but they’ll need to act fast to get it made.
“100%. … We do have to hurry because people are both getting older and less interested and lives are changing and all that. And the world changes,” Turteltaub explained to the National Treasure Hunt podcast. “Our culture is changing. A lot. Since the first movie was made. Socially, certainly politically, and definitely, our language, and different cultural changes we’ve had. The 2024 Tribeca Festival has added even more films, including eight world premieres, to its lineup.
The annual New York event will now include the world premieres of two sports documentaries: Roger Federer’s Twelve Final Days, directed by Asif Kapadia and Joe Sabia, about the 20-time Grand Slam tennis champion’s decision to retire from the sport, and Dawn Porter’s Power of the Dream, about the WNBA’s fights for fair pay, better airtime and social justice. Both docs are set to stream on Amazon’s Prime Video.
And it’s adding the North American premiere of Nanette Burstein’s Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes as well as the world premiere of Sabrina Van Tassel’s Missing From Fire Trail Road, about the efforts to find out what happened to missing Native American woman Mary Ellen Johnson-Davis, who disappeared more than two years ago from the Tulalip Indian reservation near Seattle.

Zach Galifianakis has been cast in Season 4 of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” Variety has learned.
Like recently announced cast member Kumail Nanjiani, Galifianakis’ role in the mystery-comedy series is currently kept under wraps. However, an individual with knowledge of the situation can confirm his character is “integral to the twist and turns of this season’s investigation.”
The three series leads remain Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as true crime-obsessed neighbors that get caught up in real cases. Additional new faces in Season 4 include Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria and Molly Shannon. Meryl Streep, who first appeared in Season 3, will also reprise her role. Little is known about the upcoming season aside from the fact that the mystery-solving trio will make a trip to Los Angeles before returning to their native New York.

The National Treasure movies, while preposterous in plot, are actually quite good pieces of escapist entertainment. Who doesn’t want to see Nicolas Cage steal the Declaration of Independence or clear his family’s name of Lincoln’s assassination? Considering that the two movies collectively grossed over $800 million worldwide, it’s surprising that we never got a third entry. And it’s not just us that thinks so, but also Benjamin Franklin Gates himself.
Speaking with Deadline, Nicolas Cage championed the National Treasure movies as plenty of fun but was also blown away that Disney dropped the ball in building the franchise. “I mean, I enjoy them too, and I think Jon Turteltaub made a couple of classic films for the whole family. I’m still kind of amazed that Disney hasn’t wanted to make a third one. I thought the movies brought a lot of joy to the public,...

Hollywood star Bradley Cooper is open to reprising his role as Phil in the fourth installment of the ‘Hangover’ film series. On a recent episode of ‘The New Yorker Radio Hour’ podcast, Cooper spoke to host David Remnick about his directorial efforts, including ‘A Star Is Born’ and ‘Maestro’, and pivoting to more dramatic roles, reports Variety.
Remnick then asked Cooper: “Are you done with fun? In other words, if another kinda fun comic role came along, it was three months of your life, it’s not ‘Hangover 5’ but something of a similar spirit.”
“Well, I would do ‘Hangover 5,’” Cooper responded. “It would be ‘Hangover 4’ first, but yea You would do that in a flash? Not just to pay the bills,” Remnick asked.
“I would probably do ‘Hangover 4’ in an instant,” Cooper said. “Just because I love Todd (Phillips), I love Zach (Galifianakis), I love Ed (Helms) so much, I probably would.

Although Bradley Cooper is taking on more serious roles as of late, the Maestro star is not opposed to revisiting his past role as Phil in The Hangover franchise.
The actor opened up about reprising his role in the Tod Phillips comedy that he starred in 2009 alongside Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Heather Graham, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong and Jeffrey Tambor.
“I would probably do Hangover 4 in an instant,” Cooper said during an appearance on The New Yorker Radio Hour. “Just because I love Todd, I love Zach, I love Ed so much, I probably would.”
Despite Cooper not objecting to returning to The Hangover, he doesn’t think the director would be down for another sequel.
“I don’t think Todd is ever going to do that,” Cooper added.

Nicolas Cage broke out in laughter during a recent Vanity Fair video interview when forced to watch the infamous scene from 2004’s “National Treasure” in which his character, treasure hunter and cryptographer Benjamin Gates, says for the first time, “I’m gonna steal the Declaration of Independence.” The line of dialogue has been a calling card for Cage’s career for 19 years now and counting, and it’s inspired countless memes and parodies on the internet.
“How do you take something that is so profoundly ridiculous and really try to sell it?” Cage said while watching the infamous moment. “What I really like about that scene just seeing it again for the first time in however many years is I like the positivity of the character. He really believes this. He really reveres it. I think that’s charming.”
“I can’t even say it without laughing,” he added about the line.

Somewhere in the multiverse, Adam Brody is Star-Lord. The actor revealed in a recent interview that he auditioned for the role in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, directed by James Gunn, but it eventually went to Chris Pratt.
I wanted that one,” Brody admitted to Variety, confirming that Pratt was a “better” fit. “He is bigger, stronger,” Brody said. “But tonally, I really dug it.”
Pratt went on to play the role in two sequels, including this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as well as elsewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The new “River Wild” is a reimagining of Curtis Hanson’s classic 1994 thriller starring Meryl Streep, Kevin Bacon and David Strathairn about a rafting trip that takes a deadly turn.
In the new version, Adam Brody plays a heavily-tattooed ex-convict who will stop at nothing to make sure he never returns to prison. The movie also stars Brody’s wife Leighton Meester and Taran Killam, and it was directed and co-written by the trio’s longtime friend Ben Ketai.
Brody’s violent scenes with Meester are so frightening that one wonders why the couple — who’ve been married for nine years and have two children together — signed on to the film. “I tried to kill her for a fair amount of the movie,” Brody says on this week’s episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. “I wouldn’t have picked this for us. After just one season, Disney+ has pulled the plug on the National Treasure TV show.

It looks like the "National Treasure" universe wasn't quite ready to expand. Deadline is reporting that the Disney+ spin-off series "National Treasure: Edge of History" has been cancelled after just one season. Guest stars like Harvey Keitel, Justin Bartha, and franchise newbie Catherine Zeta-Jones apparently weren't enough to save the tie-in series, which arrived a full 15 years after the second film in the Nicolas Cage-led franchise.
"National Treasure: Edge of History" followed Jess (Lisette Olivera), a second-generation treasure-keeper and first-generation Mexican-American immigrant who's tasked with continuing her father's legacy. The first season followed a mystery related to a necklace Jess inherited from her father, one that kickstarts an adventure with ties to secret societies, the Spanish Inquisition, the Battle of the Alamo, and much more. The teen-centric show aimed to capture a younger generation of fans, but with the news of its cancellation, one wonders if it came a...

Disney+ is calling off the hunt for more treasure.
The streamer has canceled its series National Treasure: Edge of History after a single season. The news comes more than two months after the 10-episode series wrapped in early February.
The show premiered in December 2022. Per usual with streaming series, detailed viewing figures aren’t available for Edge of History. It made Nielsen’s streaming rankings once during its run, tying for ninth place among original series for the week of Jan. 16-22. (It’s one of only two Disney+ original series not related to Marvel or Star Wars to make the rankings; The Santa Clauses is the other.)

Ryan Murphy made headlines back in 2018 when the prolific producer of TV hits ranging from "Glee" to "American Horror Story" signed a massive content deal with Netflix, estimated at a record-breaking $300 million. Since then, Murphy and his collaborators have delivered a head-spinning array of projects for viewers of the streaming service, in addition to various shows for network television and the FX basic cable brand.
Known for audacious and outrageous plot twists, compelling characters, and assembling a repertory company comprised of some of Hollywood's finest actors, Murphy has managed to leave his imprint on everything he touches. Realistically speaking, Murphy has increasingly spread himself thin as he continues to pump out more and more television content within multiple genres. Though everything remains thoroughly on brand, not all of those projects achieve the same level of quality. Occasional stumbles are inevitable. With that in mind, read on for a roundup of...

Surprise! Ashley Olsen is reportedly married to Louis Eisner, as first reported by Page Six and, later, People on Jan. 4. According to Page Six, the 36-year-old fashion designer and 33-year-old artist tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on Dec. 28 at a home in Bel Air, CA. Representatives for Olsen did not immediately respond to Popsugar's request for comment.
A source told the outlet that there were about "50 people or so total" present at the couple's nuptials. Other details of their ceremony have been kept under wraps. Though not much else is known about their relationship, the two have been linked since October 2017.
Considering the former child star is notoriously private, neither Olsen nor Eisner has publicly spoken about their romance, though they have been spotted on date nights and casual outings on several occasions. For many cinephiles, filmmaking peaked in 2004 when Nicolas Cage declared that he was “gonna steal the Declaration of Independence” during the first act of beloved adventure movie “National Treasure.” Since then, a second film, “Book of Secrets,” was released in 2007, and the TV spinoff “Edge of History” premiered this December on Disney+, but the film trilogy has yet to be truly concluded. But Justin Bartha, who memorably played Cage’s tech-savvy sidekick Riley in the original films, still hopes it’s coming.
Bartha guest starred in a recent episode of “Edge of History,” which also features original cast member Harvey Keitel and stars Lisette Oliviera and Catherine Zeta-Jones. In an interview with Variety to discuss his appearance on the show, Bartha said that he thinks the film could happen, especially given the recent successes of Cage and the film’s primary producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Justin Bartha and Lisette Olivera in ‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ episode 4 (Disney/Brian Roedel)
The action picks up with Jess (Lisette Olivera) deep in thought trying to decipher the message she heard from none other than Elvis Presley (in episode three) as Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History episode four begins. A knock at the door interrupts her concentration, and it turns out that Ethan’s apologizing via cupcakes.
Oren (Antonio Cipriano) is deep in his own investigation and asks Ethan (Jordan Rodrigues) if he wants to help. It’s a no-go for Ethan; he’d rather spend time with his new girlfriend.
Meanwhile, Jess is getting frustrated that she can’t figure out Elvis’s riddle. Tasha (Zuri Reed) is there helping by talking her through it.
Elsewhere, a familiar face is getting off a private jet. Riley Poole (Justin Bartha), who played a key role alongside...

Justin Bartha, who plays Riley Poole in the “National Treasure” series, entered the ongoing TV spin-off “National Treasure: Edge Of History” and has upped the stakes for the third film.
Fans hanging onto every word Poole said during the episode did not miss the obvious reference to “page 47” from the presidents’ secret book from “National Treasure: Book of Secrets”. In that film, the president asks Ben Gates (Nicholas Cage) to advise him on a mystery mentioned on Page 47 in the book.

Disney+ is currently continuing the National Treasure franchise with the series National Treasure: Edge of History, starring the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones and even features a returning character with Justin Bartha reprising his role as Riley Poole. Setting the new show within the universe of the first two Jon Turteltaub-directed films meant the possibility of Nicolas Cage making an appearance. However, Bartha wouldn’t count out a third movie’s existence, according to Variety.
When inquired about the third movie’s script that producer Jerry Bruckheimer claims is finished, Bartha replies,
There is a script. That’s all I’ll say. There have been a few different scripts, actually, but the one thing that has to happen is for all the stars to align. I had seen something awhile ago, and it was solid, but the unsung hero of these movies that doesn’t get mentioned as much is Jon Turteltaub.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “Charlotte,” the fourth episode of “National Treasure: Edge of History,” now streaming on Disney+.
Rest assured, “National Treasure” fans: Justin Bartha knows some of you were hesitant to embrace Disney+’s new spin-off series “Edge of History.” He was too.
After all, it’s been 15 years since its sequel, “National Treasure: Books of Secrets,” hit theaters in 2007, marking the last time audiences spent time with Bartha’s Riley Poole.
The tech-savvy, sarcastic right hand of Nicolas Cage’s treasure-hunting historian Ben Gates remains one of the defining roles of Bartha’s career, alongside “The Hangover.” It’s also the only one he can watch with his daughters, so fans have them to thank for chipping away at his initial skepticism to guest star in the series’ fourth episode.

The joy of Disney’s “National Treasure” franchise lies in its precise balance of reverence and irreverence. For all the choreographed mayhem, cheeky ahistoricity, and gross mishandling of antiquities, the beloved 2004 film and its 2007 sequel are fundamentally in awe of history, respectful of legacy, and devoted to family.
Despite its sturdy plot mechanics, broad audience appeal and evergreen themes, the “National Treasure” franchise is lacking in currency. Fifteen years have passed since the last entry, a span of years in which the holiday tentpole has evolved, as has Nicolas Cage, who is now more drawn to auteurist grindhouse indies than Jerry Bruckheimer blockbusters. With the increasingly narrow odds of a film to complete a trilogy, the only way to save “National Treasure” from becoming a dusty relic itself was to detonate it and build something new from the ruins.

“You notice things no one else would notice” is a compliment paid more than once to Jess (Lisette Olivera), the heroine of National Treasure: Edge of History. It’s ostensibly what makes her the ideal spiritual successor to Ben Franklin Gates — the protagonist played in the franchise’s two previous big-screen entries by Nicolas Cage, who does not appear here.
In practice, though, it feels more like the show’s way of insisting that Jess is more interesting than the script actually allows her to be, and its excuse for papering over the carelessness of its mysteries. Jess may have an eye for detail, but her Disney+ series has no patience for them — it’s less an intricately crafted puzzle than a jumble of half-broken odds and ends.

Nicolas Cage has admitted that he spent his childhood convinced he was an alien.

“My father told me he felt like he had to introduce himself to me because I was such an alien,” he told Rampstyle magazine.

National Treasure: Edge of History doesn’t have Nicolas Cage‘s gravely voice declaring he’s “going to steal the Declaration of Independence,” but it does bring fans back into the familiar fold of the franchise’s treasure hunting. Lisette Olivera leads the spinoff series as Jess Valenzuela, the de facto Ben Gates, with Zuri Reed‘s Tasha, Antonio Cipriano‘s Oren, and Jordan Rodrigues‘s Ethan playing her found family and fellow treasure hunters. The foursome, friends since elementary school, will face off with Catherine Zeta-Jones‘ villainous artifacts dealer Billie in the historical fiction/action series, premiering December 14 on Disney+.
