Lobstrosities is a Patreon-only segment of The Losers’ Club that journeys into the barren wastelands of Stephen King movies and sequels. In the past, they’ve covered Pet Sematary 2, Creepshow 3, A Return to ‘Salem’s Lot, every sequel to Sometimes They Come Back, and a third of the Corn franchise. Today, in light of its 25th anniversary, the gang is unlocking their 2020 installment on the 1999 sequel, The Rage: Carrie 2.
Directed by Katt Shea, the direct sequel to Brian De Palma‘s Carrie follows Rachel Lang (Emily Bergl), the younger, also-telekinetic half-sister of Carrie White, who learns that her best friend’s suicide was prompted by a group of dickhead male classmates who exploited her sexually. The film brings back Amy Irving as Sue Snell and stuffs enough connective tissue between the cracks to make this whole thing work as a sequel.

If there’s ever been a classic horror film that doesn’t need a sequel, it’s Carrie. Stephen King’s debut novel was masterfully adapted into a 1976 film by Brian De Palma and quickly became a runaway hit. In fact it’s likely because of the film’s success that the prolific author so quickly became a household name. Published in 1974, the semi-epistolary novel follows Carrie White, a high school senior who’s spent her life taking abuse from her ultra-religious mother and savage classmates. Finally pushed too far, Carrie unleashes her telekinetic power with a fiery vengeance that lays waste to the cruel and kind alike. De Palma faithfully adapted King’s original novel to create a terrifying exploration of long-term abuse and self-defense gone terribly wrong. The image of Carrie (Sissy Spacek) covered in blood as she walks through a burning prom has become an indelible image...

Bill Groom has provided sumptuous, period-accurate sets for the entire run of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” but the final season of the Amazon comedy required the designer to go big with his designs. He is once again nominated in the Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program (One Hour or More) category for the episode “Susan.” This installment required the creation of several extravagant theatrical sets. “It was probably the largest amount of work we did all season,” offers Groom. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
A core location in “Susan” is a business expo which houses several industrial musicals. Not only did each set have to contain the requisite amount of detail and flair that “Maisel” has been synonymous for in its design, but they also had to house original musical numbers. Dancers dressed as flowers come to life in a garden, a quintessential housewife dreams up...

A version of this story about Thomas Mizer and Curtis Moore and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” first appeared in the Comedy Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Five seasons of Amazon’s pop-culture-reveling hit “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” has yielded more stars rising than bagel dough, but possibly none more so than show composers Thomas Mizer and Curtis Moore. The duo, who met at Northwestern and mentored with “The Muppet Show” veteran and multiple Emmy winner Larry Grossman, are responsible for pretty much any piece of music you hear that isn’t from someone’s songbook, and like other efforts from Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, you can bet musical numbers are going to be part of the deal.
“We did actually we were set up on a sort of blind date with them about close to 10 years ago now,” Mizer says. “We’d been writing a stage musical...

When music supervisor Robin Urdang read the first episode of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” she knew she was in for a challenge.
The pilot of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino’s hourlong comedy called for a song from Barbra Streisand, an artist whose work rarely clears for film, let alone television. It immediately set a standard for Urdang’s working relationship with the Palladinos and the level of communication and adaptability she’d need on the Prime Video series.
Urdang, along with supervising sound editor/re-recording mixer Ron Bochar, production mixer Mathew Price, and the “Maisel” music and lyrics team of Curtis Moore and Thomas Mizer, spoke to IndieWire as part of the season’s Consider This series about their Emmy-winning work on the indelible comedy and specific challenges and joys of Season 5. Give it up for the marvelous Ms. Myerson!
On The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 Episode 6, Susie finally gets her due for being the best damn manager in show business.
The show is careening towards its finale with (even more!) new characters and enough time jumps to make your head spin.
This episode will likely be polarizing for viewers. Some may love it, applauding its ambitious narrative style, while others may hate it, finding it too convoluted to enjoy.
Like many of the Susie stories told by the comedians after the ceremony, the truth likely lies somewhere in between.
Seeing Susie acknowledged and praised was satisfying, but seeing how bitter and jaded she'd become was hard.
This definitely played like a "Best Of" Susie reel. With all the time-jumping, though, we're getting less grounded and more detached from the story set in the present.

With 38 productions eligible for this year’s Tony Awards, there were plenty of names missing when nominations were announced on Tuesday morning. Among the most surprising 2023 Tony nominations snubs was “Life of Pi” for Best Play. The production earned nine Olivier Award nominations across the pond, winning Best New Play, Actor (Hiran Abeysekera), Featured Actor, Lighting Design and Set Design. But at the Tonys, it missed out on a Best Play bid and didn’t score a nomination for Abeysekera. The production did perform well in the design categories, though, earning five nominations including for director Max Webster.

If ever a play had good reason to front-load itself with exposition, Good Night, Oscar is it. Once among America’s premiere wits and raconteurs, Oscar Levant has gone the way of many another once-famous wits and raconteurs. Which is to say, he needs lots of exposition.
Good Night, Oscar, the new bio-play by Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife) starring Sean Hayes (Will & Grace) as Levant, goes a long way in introducing this long-ago talk-show staple to modern audiences. Whether it justifies the effort is considerably less certain.
A talented pianist and occasional second-banana movie actor, Levant is better known today for his frequent talk- and game-show appearances of the 1950s and ’60s, his aptitude for the improvised zinger and no-holds-barred confessional humor making him a sought-after, if controversial, Golden Age presence. Others would follow in his wake – the Gore Vidals and Truman Capotes and Phyllis Newmans, but Levant was first.

Music has always been an intrinsic part of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, with a perfectly curated soundtrack for both its in-era songs its often anachronistic end credits music.
However, on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 Episode 4, we get the closest we've ever gotten to a musical episode, even if all the numbers are diegetic.
"Take It Away!" is the perfect title for the opening number of a trash-related musical.
Composers Thomas Mizer and Curtis Moore have truly outdone themselves with the many songs for this show-within-a show as well as the opening number" Everything Goes" and the "Dream Kitchen," which feels both whimsical and authentic to the period.
Emily Bergl's Tessie shows up here and gets to sing, which we learned recently is a thing she likes to do. It may be on a big pile of trash, but at least she's center stage, much to Susie's surprise.

During its seven-season run, Gilmore Girls introduced a variety of different characters. Some had staying power, while others did not. We understand that sometimes a character had to be written off, even if they were important to Rory or Lorelai Gilmore. Still, there were some abandoned Gilmore Girls characters that we would have loved to see more of or, at the very least, had their sudden absence buttoned up.
The mystery of Dwight’s well-being will haunt us forever
Dwight appeared in exactly one episode of Gilmore Girls. He purchased a home directly next to Lorelai and Rory Gilmore and seemed excited to integrate into the community. “Eight O’Clock at the Oasis” was centered almost entirely around Dwight, and then he was gone.
From our point of view, Dwight went away on a business trip and never returned to Stars Hollow. Considering the incredibly aggressive message his ex-wife left on his answering machine,...

Anne Heche’s ex, Canadian actor James Tupper, has come to the late actress’ defence on Instagram.
Tupper and Heche’s “Men In Trees” co-star Emily Bergl shared a lengthy message on the social media site about anyone calling Heche “crazy.”

A lot has been written about Anne Heche in the days following an Aug. 5 accident when the actress crashed her car into a Mar Vista home, causing a devastating fire that left her with fatal injuries.
Aside from the heartfelt tributes, toxicology tests and rampant theories about what could have led to the shocking incident, Heche’s death has inspired a renewed interest in the words she wrote about herself in Call Me Crazy.
The memoir, from Simon & Schuster imprint Scribner, was published Sept. 4, 2001, and has long since been out of print. It is touted as a “national and New York Times bestseller” on Amazon where it’s for sale as a “collectible” from one seller who is asking 749 per copy. Prices have skyrocketed in recent days as The Hollywood Reporter noticed it was once for sale at 200 briefly before rising again to 499 over the weekend.

Midge Maisel is back, and she's better than ever.
On The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4 Episode 1, things are looking pretty dire for Midge, out for revenge after Shy abandoned her on the tarmac.
Midge is nothing if not tenacious, though, and with Susie at her side, she's ready to change the way people view women in comedy.
It's such a pleasure when a high-quality show returns with the panache and pizzazz of its previous seasons.
The return of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been highly anticipated (and delayed due to Covid) ever since the gut-punch of Season 3's finale.
The show is already off to a roaring start, giving Midge an epic, expletive-laden set at the Gaslight detailing her thirst for revenge. Midge is at her best when she's in the zone.

She will play Queen, an earthy, sensual, flouncy, flamboyant and joyous woman who had a brief encounter with Frank (William H. Macy) on top of a washing machine when both were high on mushrooms at 16. The encounter produced a now-adult daughter, Sammi (Emily Bergl). Queenie is a force of nature, a grandmother many times over who loves to be naked, grows…...
