The decade of the 1990s was fruitful for thrillers and mystery stories, including the ones that contain erotic elements too. The main director of this kind was David Lynch, who inscribed his name in history with the Twin Peaks fever sweeping over America.
However, there were other directors who tried to ride this hype train. Such an attempt was made in 1992, when the psychological thriller we’re going to talk about was released, and since then it gained such a cultish status it’s still discussed on Reddit.
Its plot revolves around Allison, a young woman who decides to separate from her fiancé and starts looking for a roommate. Eventually, she finds one, a femme fatale named Hedra, who seems to be incredibly interested in her neighbor's life.
However, when Allison starts thinking of reconciling with her boyfriend, Hedra grows jealous and even aggressive. The more we observe her changed behavior,...

Being recognized as the king of crime movies replete with violence, razor-sharp dialogues and allusions to pop culture entities, Quentin Tarantino inscribed his name in movie history. Almost all of his films are recognized both by critics and the audience.
However, there was a movie that became overshadowed by the success of Pulp Fiction (1994) and then by the Kill Bill saga (2003 - 2004). It appears to be the only movie of Tarantino that was adapted from a novel, Elmore Leonard’s one titled Rum Punch.
The film’s plot revolves around Jackie, a flight attendant, who is caught by the duo of an agent and a detective while she was heading to bring the money to her boss. The latter is in fact an arms dealer who is hunted by those two, and the woman is asked for help.
Instead of cooperating with them or going to prison, Jackie decides to...

Apart from obvious thriller choices from the decade of the 1990s, which include Basic Instinct, Seven, Fight Club and Usual Suspects, there are some hidden nostalgic gems, which can immerse you in the atmosphere of tempting mystery and suspense.
Here are 5 of the chilling 1990’s thrillers, handpicked by Redditors and available for watching on Prime Video.
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992)
Being the perfect example of the femme fatale trope, this story transforms the typical dangerous woman into a suburban obstetrician’s wife, who goes into all serious after she acknowledges her husband’s sexual misconduct. Annabella Sciorra and Rebecca De Mornay’s performances here are the main keys for keeping the movie’s nail-biting suspense, and be sure that the twists will leave your jaws on the floor!
Pacific Heights (1990)

In 1990, Luc Besson's famous action film Nikita hit theaters. The movie about a street criminal turned secret agent was a huge success in France and around the world.
There is an opinion that the director has been doing nothing but making different versions of Nikita all his life, distracted from time to time by purely commercial projects.
The central character of his universe is a female fighter, a cold-blooded killer with a tragic personal history. Viewers saw a similar type in Leon: The Professional, The Fifth Element, Lucy with Scarlett Johansson in the main role, and Anna – another spy drama that recently got a second life thanks to its popularity on Netflix.
However, when talking about Nikita and its imitators, many forget about the cult series that debuted in 1997 and ran for five seasons – La Femme Nikita. And just recently, Redditors remembered the best spy show of the 1990s.

Andy Garcia was much more of a gentleman with Bridget Fonda in “The Godfather Part III” than he was with Joe Mantegna.
Garcia said during “The Pete and Sebastian Show” that his co-star Fonda was “nervous” to be fully nude for a scene in the 1990 Francis Ford Coppola feature. Garcia instead suggested that she wear his coat, which is what we see on film.
“Bridget Fonda was extraordinary to work with, and that’s my coat she’s wearing,” Garcia recalled. “That’s my coat. And initially, you know, they wanted her to be, you know, naked. And she was very nervous. And I said, ‘No, no. She’s not gonna be naked, no. Come on.'”
Garcia continued, “I said to [costume designer] Milena Canonero, I said, ‘Milena, why doesn’t she just wear my leather coat. It’s on the bed, it’s on the floor. Let her come out in my coat.

Looking back at Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 crime thriller Pulp Fiction we can all agree that the casting of John Travolta, Uma Thurman, and Bruce Willis was top-notch, alongside the impeccable storyline. But what if we say, Willis was never on Tarantino’s long list of potential actors for the role of Butch Coolidge.
Nicolas Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
According to reports, Quentin Tarantino suggested Sean Penn, Nicolas Cage, and Johnny Depp, for the iconic role. Suggesting a lengthy list of names ahead of casting, Tarantino wanted to star the above-mentioned A-listers in his crime thriller over Bruce Willis. But things worked in favor of the Die Hard star, as he eventually appeared alongside Uma Thurman’s Mia.
Bruce Willis Wasn’t on Quentin Tarantino’s List of Actors
Landing an Academy Award for Writing following his critically acclaimed 1994 neo-noir Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino turned into a renowned filmmaker.

Over the past three decades, few filmmakers have mastered their craft better than David Fincher. With a fastidious eye for framing and a deep focus on directorial details, Fincher has fashioned some of the most precisely orchestrated cinematic outings since his big screen debut in 1992. Yet, for most avid cinephiles and casual movie fans alike, Fincher will almost always be most associated with Se7en and Fight Club in the 90s and perhaps The Social Network and Gone Girl in the 2010s. If that’s an accurate assessment, then it begs the question – what is David Fincher’s all-time most underrated movie? While the recent release of The Killer is a worthy candidate, and a serious case can be made for Zodiac, The Game continues to be a criminally unheralded psychological thriller that, upon repeat viewings, toys and torments the audience with devious plotting and duplicitous tricks as only Fincher can forge.

The thought of winning a lottery jackpot on sites like Lottoland Lottery and Casino has crossed the minds of a lot of people. Some of the movies about winning the lottery are based on true events, while others are based on mere fiction. The term "nepo baby" tends to carry a negative connotation, but it doesn't have to. Take the Deschanel sisters, Emily and Zooey. Their mother, Mary Jo Deschanel (née Weir), began acting in the 1960s and has dozens of film and TV credits to her name, from "2010: The Year We Make Contact" to "Twin Peaks." Their father, Caleb Deschanel, is likewise a decorated director and cinematographer whose career spans 50 years, having collaborated with filmmakers like Philip Kaufman, Carroll Ballard, William Friedkin, Richard Donner, Roland Emmerich, and Christopher McQuarrie.
In the face of that, "nepo babies" Emily and Zooey Deschanel have emerged as artists fully worthy of admiration on their own merits. On top of forming one-half of the successful indie pop group She & Him, Zooey Deschanel spring-boarded from her early breakout roles in the hits "Almost Famous" and "Elf" into an ongoing career as a movie star, in addition to...

Back in 1996, the Twister cast, outside of Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton was largely unknown. At the time, not too many of them were famous. However, in the years since the film, much of that has changed and much of the Twister cast has gone on to fame both in front and behind the camera.
Helen Hunt was arguably the film’s biggest star in the cast back in ’96, but she wasn’t the first choice for the movie. Before the role of Dr. Jo Harding went to her, Jurassic Park standout Laura Dern, Bridget Fonda, and Kate Mulgrew almost wore the good doctor’s white tank top and reinforced mud-stompers. Initially, Tom Hanks eyed the role of Bill Harding but ultimately felt Twister wasn’t the right fit for his brand of character creation. Other actors floated for Bill Harding include Kevin Costner, Michael Keaton, Kurt Russell, Richard Gere,...

There are storied casting what-ifs that make us genuinely wonder how different a movie would have been had X gotten the role over Y. Usually it’s tough to even picture anyone else even being considered. Take Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns, for example. She redefined the character for a generation and still remains the ultimate version of Catwoman. And to think Catwoman could have been Sean Young, who ended up redefining how to botch a campaign in spectacular fashion.
One of the oddest attempts in landing a role for a movie came in Sean Young’s infamous shot at sealing the deal as Catwoman for Tim Burton, but the director wouldn’t meet with her. To up her chances, Sean Young went on Joan Rivers’ talk show in 1991 decked out in a homemade Catwoman costume, playfully yet menacingly calling out “Timmy” for not returning phone calls. And while the...

We’ve all got that friend. The one who convinces us to push our boundaries or take that crazy risk, even though we have a hunch we’ll probably get hurt. They’re exciting, they’re cool, maybe even supportive, but they tend to lead us down the road to trouble, only to duck out when the consequences roll around. Film has a long history of these toxic troublemakers. Looking back, the Horror/Thriller genre was practically built on the backs of these smiling devils, who lure us in with their fun-loving wiles, then lead us off the side of a cliff.

There are numerous laugh-out-loud moments in Saltburn, Emerald Fennell’s darkly comic and voyeuristic exploration of the British aristocracy being released on Friday by Amazon MGM Studios. Despite the hugely impressive efforts of Rosamund Pike and Richard E. Grant, however, most don’t belong to the lead cast, but to Paul Rhys.
As Duncan, the imperious and terrifying butler, the Welsh actor silently steals scenes from under the toffee noses of both those he dutifully serves at the Saltburn mansion (including Pike, Grant, Jacob Elordi and Alison Oliver) and the lower-class interloper he’s keeping a beady eye on (Barry Keoghan) each time he appears with hilariously po-faced magnificence.
And it’s a face that crops up again in another starry title landing late in the awards season corridor. In Ridley Scott’s much-anticipated biopic Napoleon, out Nov. 22 via Apple Original Films and Sony Pictures, Rhys plays Talleyrand, the crafty...

Dynamite Entertainment has released a ton of Army of Darkness comic books over the years, but with the upcoming series Army of Darkess: Forever they’re going back to the source: this comic book is a direct sequel to director Sam Raimi’s 1993 film (watch it Here)! And this sequel comes with a bonus in that it continues on from both endings of the film.
While the theatrical cut of Army of Darkness found our time traveling hero Ash back in his own time, working at S-Mart (and fighting a Deadite in the aisles), the director’s cut of the film ends with Ash being dropped into a post-apocalyptic future.

The 57th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival got off to a banging start on Friday evening as free opening concerts by Russell Crowe — with his musical collective Indoor Garden Party — and British electronic music band Morcheeba got crowds rocking and grooving in the square in front of the picturesque Czech spa town’s Hotel Thermal.
Morcheeba fans came out in droves in the early evening despite some rain, cheering and moving along to such hits as opening number “The Sea” and “Trigger Hippie.” The performance followed the fest’s opening ceremony and seemed to put the town into party mode.
After Morcheeba’s appearance, anticipation started building for the late music act. Just before 11 p.m., Crowe arrived on stage, with a drink cup in hand, where he was greeted with loud cheers and applause. Earlier in the evening he had received the Crystal Globe for outstanding...

Yesterday we shared the news of the three-disc special edition 4K release Severin Films is planning for the 1981 film Nightmare, a.k.a. Nightmares in a Damaged Brain. Now we have another awesome Severin Films release to let you know about, as they will be giving legendary director Lucio Fulci‘s 1977 film The Psychic a four-disc special edition 4K release!
Described as Fulci’s “ultimate giallo masterpiece”, The Psychic was scripted by Fulci, Roberto Gianviti, and Dardano Sacchetti, and is also known as Seven Notes in Black or Murder to the Tune of the Seven Black Notes. Apparently Quentin Tarantino entertained the idea of remaking the film with Bridget Fonda in the lead role back in the ’90s. Fulci’s film stars Jennifer O’Neill (Scanners) as a woman tormented by violent visions of past slayings. Or are they premonitions of murders still to come?

Lionsgate said today it’s partnered with Quentin Tarantino for distribution rights to three of the director’s iconic films – Kill Bill Volumes I & II and Jackie Brown.
Beginning with Reservoir Dogs, a Lionsgate library favorite for nearly 20 years, “we’ve grown what is now Hollywood’s largest portfolio of Tarantino films to include Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight and Death Proof in addition to the movies we just picked up,” said CEO Jon Feltheimer on the company’s post-earning conference call.
He said the studio and Tarantino team will celebration Kill Bill’s 20th anniversary later this year with a new, remastered 4K edition.
“It was a coup for us to get the three Quentin Tarantino movies,” said Jim Packer, head of worldwide television and digital, on the call. We have eight, which gives our library a unique situation in Hollywood, and we want to take advantage of that.

Paparazzi pictures of Jack Nicholson, Gene Hackman and Bridget Fonda have circulated online, feeding into an odd desire to force reclusive actors back into the spotlight
Few headlines get people clicking like “Omg, you won’t Believe how Unrecognisable this star looks today”. People fall for it every time. They fall for it when the star has succumbed to the natural ageing process. They fall for it when the star is wearing movie prosthetics on set. They even fall for it when the star has simply chosen to accessorise (“Australian actress looks unrecognisable in a pair of quirky sunglasses during a stroll through London – can you identify the star?” above some photos of Cate Blanchett looking exactly like Cate Blanchett). It’s a cheap trick, basically.
But over the last few weeks, these headlines have taken on a grottier note. A month ago, photographs of Gene Hackman, a 93-year-old man...

Bridget Fonda reaffirmed that she will remain retired from acting in a rare on-camera appearance on Monday.
In a video obtained via The Daily Mail, the 59-year-old was approached by paparazzi at Los Angeles International Airport on Monday and simply said, “No” when asked about staging a potential Hollywood comeback. After further prodding, she declined the idea once again, saying, “I don’t think so,” then gave the greatest explanation for why she wouldn’t give another go for the glamorous life: “It’s too nice being a civilian.”
You heard it from Fonda first: fame isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and she would certainly know as a third-generation member of the elite Hollywood acting family that includes her grandfather Henry Fonda, father Peter Fonda, and aunt Jane Fonda. Bridget Fonda made her first screen appearance in 1969’s Easy Rider, and eventually became an icon in...

“Sex is not part of my vision of cinema,” Oscar-winning writer-director Quentin Tarantino said in an interview with a Spanish news outlet (as per EW). And now that we think about it, no, there aren’t too many scenes of lovemaking in the auteur’s oeuvre.
There is no shortage of buff dudes (Brad Pitt removing his shirt in “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood” received a round of applause at its New York press premiere) and fetching young women (have you seen “Death Proof”?) but, yeah, not really any “sex scenes” per se.

Quentin Tarantino has been making the international press rounds in support of his “Cinema Speculation” book tour, recently speaking to Spain’s Diari Ara about how one of his only box office bombs shook his confidence as a film director. That bomb would be “Death Proof,” Tarantino’s 2017 stuntman action-thriller starring Kurt Russell that was released domestically as one half of the movie “Grindhouse.” The other half was Robert Rodriguez’s “Planet Terror.” The “Grindhouse” release earned $25 million, while “Death Proof” picked up only $30 million overseas in its standalone release.

“Hurt but not defeated.” That’s the direction filmmaker Martha Coolidge gave to her star Nicolas Cage as they shot the pivotal breakup scene in the ’80s classic “Valley Girl.” In a filmed conversation from 2003 between the two for the film’s twentieth anniversary, Cage told Coolidge that he has “used that direction ever since” in all of his work.
As the iconic ’80s spin on “Romeo and Juliet” celebrates its 40th anniversary on April 29, and Cage returns to the big screen with his latest film “Renfield” — in which he plays the centuries old Prince of Darkness himself, Count Dracula, recovering from the latest attempt on his life with his familiar Renfield (Nicholas Hoult) in New Orleans — it’s clear that the impact of her words still resonate in the performances of the idiosyncratic actor.
He was just 17 years old when he auditioned for the role that would change his life.

People have strong opinions, both good and bad, about films directed by Quentin Tarantino.
Regardless of your opinion on the filmmaker, though there’s no denying his new releases demand to be seen – if only in order in order to debate whether they rank up there with Pulp Fiction (1994) or way down with The Hateful Eight (2017).
Even if viewers don't like a particular Tarantino film, there'll probably be a small part they do like, thanks to his knack for creating fantastic characters – not to mention casting the perfect people in those roles.
It's no surprise that actors including Samuel L Jackson, Uma Thurman and Leonardo DiCaprio rush to be in his films – all three of whom have delivered some of their best performances in Tarantino films.
Following news of Tarantino’s next film, which is expected to be the last before his retirement, we have ranked the director’s 30 greatest characters.

On February 19, 1993, the third entry in director Sam Raimi‘s Evil Dead franchise – Army of Darkness (watch it Here) – reached theatres. Even though the film was a box office failure, it quickly earned a cult following… and by now, it probably ranks as one of the most popular horror comedies ever made. That’s why we have put together a video to celebrate 30 years of Army of Darkness, which you can now check out in the embed above!

(For the 30th anniversary of Sam Raimi's "Army of Darkness," we're looking back at some scary and funny anecdotes about the movie this week).
Both "Evil Dead II" and "Army of Darkness" open with recaps, explaining the story of Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) up to where the previous film left off. This is a necessity since both "The Evil Dead" and "Evil Dead II" end with cliffhangers; in the first, Ash is ambushed by an Unseen Force, while in the second he's sent back to medieval times. This mandated an explanation in each subsequent movie for viewers unacquainted with the series. But there's a catch to this: The story is never quite the same in any of the three films.
"Evil Dead II" opens with a reshot version of the first film, one that condenses its beats into 10 minutes: Ash goes out to a cabin in the woods, awakens...

Hail to the king, baby. Three decades ago, Sam Raimi's "Army of Darkness" was released in the U.S., capping the "Evil Dead" trilogy which grew from a low-budget cult hit into a horror-comedy mainstay with buckets of blood to spare. You might remember it: Bruce Campbell's Ash and his chainsaw arm, a literal blood geyser, Ray Harryhausen-esque stop-motion skeletons. But your experience may vary, depending on which version of the movie you've seen. With Lee Cronin's upcoming franchise installment "Evil Dead Rise" on its way to theaters in April of 2023, it's a good time to look back on Raimi's 1993 cult hit, in all of its presentations.
Picking up from "Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn," the trilogy capper brings its splatstick out of cabin-in-the-woods territory and into a castle on a hill, taking a cue from the likes of Mark Twain. Similar to the...

At the end of Sam Raimi's 1993 horror farce "Army of Darkness," the blustering a-hole hero Ash (Bruce Campbell), stranded in the early 14th century, has handily vanquished an army of Deadites and retrieved the magical Necronomicon, a book that has the power to return him to his own time. The bearded Wise Man (Ian Abercrombie) explains to Ash that he has to drink a vial of elixir and recite three magical words, being careful to recite them correctly (Ash had previously whiffed the same magic words earlier in the film).
An astute observer might have noticed that Abercrombie's mouth doesn't match his dialogue in that scene. This is the result of a massive recut to the ending of "Army of Darkness." In the original cut, and the cut released overseas, Ash was told to drink one drop of elixir for every century he wanted to travel forward in time.

There was a time when it seemed like you could set your watch to a new Brendan Fraser hit movie coming out every couple of years. But after a great run in the 1990s, the star of "George of the Jungle" and "The Mummy" had a curious box office disaster appear out of nowhere.

When Cameron Crowe was 15, he became the youngest journalist to write for Rolling Stone Magazine. Throughout his adolescence, he interviewed many iconic musicians of the '70s, including Led Zeppelin, The Who, David Bowie, and Elton John. In 1981, he adapted his book "Fast Times at Ridgemont High: A True Story" into a screenplay, and seven years later, he added Hollywood director to his resume with the release of "Say Anything."
The writer has a natural affection for "the little guy" and a seemingly never-ending ability to create unlikely heroes with universal appeal. Before he fell in love with music, Crowe told Rolling Stone he was a precocious boy who was sheltered by a mother who thought rock and roll was "s*** disguised as candy." In typical teenage fashion, he rebelled against her beliefs by secretly reading Creem, Rolling Stone, and the San Diego Door, and carved his own path in life through writing and music.

It’s a quasi-blaxploitation homage featuring a glorious central performance from Pam Grier as Jackie, the tough flight attendant importing gun-running profits into the US in her tote bag.
Brown figures she can keep all the money by outsmarting her ruthlessly violent associate Ordell Robbie (Samuel L Jackson), whose grisly criminal court includes ex-cellmate Louis Gara (Robert De Niro) and space-cadet girlfriend Melanie (Bridget Fonda), and also law enforcement (in the form of Michael Keaton and Michael Bowen) with whom she is pretending to work undercover. But she finds herself encountering the equally tough,...

The Film
On first hearing the title, you might guess that this is a Hong Kong adaptation of the much-filmed Edgar Allan Poe story. It is, largely, an adaptation, but not of that. Writer/Director Stephen Shin apparently wanted to do a straight remake of Luc Besson’s Nikita, but the rights weren’t available (because they had already been sold in preparation for John Badham’s Bridget Fonda starring Point of No Return [Aka: The Assassin]). Shin made this instead. He makes some cosmetic changes, but in structure and many specifics, it remains very recognisable. You could say that Shin went from remake to ripoff in his concept of the film. Which isn’t to say it’s bad.
Former model Jade Leung debuts as Catherine, who kills a truck driver who tries to molest her, then the cop who comes to arrest her. As she’s taken to her trial,...

I’m thrilled that Eggen asked to introduce me to The Ruins, as it’s one that I’ve always heard great things about but never got around to seeing myself. It’s kind of like that item you never buy for yourself, but you’re ecstatic to receive as a birthday present. Plus, it’s...

After years of being compared, Amber Riley and Raven Goodwin are finally sharing a screen - and it's the perfect pairing. Lifetime's upcoming "Single Black Female" follows Monica (Goodwin) as she grieves the loss of her father. While she's coping with her loss, she gets a new assistant, Simone (Riley) - who will turn out to have more than looks in common with her. Plot-wise, the remake of "Single White Female" departs in several ways from the 1992 psychological thriller - but the creepiness remains. Popsugar spoke to Riley about working with Goodwin, starring in a remake, and what's in store for her musical future.
Riley and Goodwin were at the top of the casting directors' wish list when she was offered the role. "It was really cool," she says. "Me and Raven already wanted to do a project together. We've known each other for years. We've been good friends for years.

Cinema is a wonderful tool for showing us other lives. Stories that we enjoy on the big screen connect intimately to our understanding of our own lives and to the lives of others. The best films can be wish-fulfilment, they can throw us into unimaginable terror, or they can show us what we might do given the circumstances the film presents us with.
Many of these films feature a protagonist whose life at the beginning of the film is not too dissimilar to our own. How many of Hitchcock‘s great films use the premise of extraordinary things happening to ordinary people? And because of the way film works on us as an entertainment medium, there is a very real connection between our visceral reaction and what we see on screen.
Certain films shake us to our core, or delight us in ways we couldn’t possibly have imagined. The...
