The first full teaser for Alien: Romulus contains lots of nods to Alien and Aliens. Not only does it integrate the famous tagline for the first film, but we get plenty of cool guns, facehuggers on the attack, and even a xenomorph rising from the water. In other words, all things that made Aliens great.
The connections between Alien and Aliens make sense. Director Fede Álvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues have made clear that Romulus takes place between those two landmark films. However, the standout, most shocking scene pays homage to Alien 3, a movie so divisive that even director David Fincher disowned it.
In the final image of the trailer, a xenomorph approaches protagonist Rain and extends its inner jaw. Soaked with sweat and steam, Rain turns her anguished face away from the monster and toward the camera.

Brad Pitt has become an icon of the film industry; his acting career spans 37 years and he is still giving tough competition to the young stars, in terms of fame and popularity. Over the years, the actor has done a number of films that have established his stardom, but if you want to watch one that himself as a cultural icon, it’s none other than his portrayal of Tyler Durden in Fight Club.

Released in 1999, the film reached cult status in no time, and his character resonated with the viewers, primarily for his rebellious and unhinged nature. Pitt’s character became so iconic that it inspired a character in Rise of The Beasts. Next week, on June 7, the entertaining and highly acclaimed geek-goes-undercover-as-contract-killer screwball romantic thriller “Hit Man,” starring It Dude of the moment Glen Powell, drops on Netflix. But this weekend, in case you hadn’t noticed, the movie opened “in theaters.” How many theaters? If you use your hands and feet to count, you’ll have most of them covered.
Netflix, the company that did for streaming what McDonald’s did for fast food (made it everyone’s new normal), always likes to make a big show of when it’s playing a movie “in theaters.” It has long amused me to see entertainment journalists get suckered into this public-relations gambit, for the simple reason that so many of them live in New York and L.A., where the tiny number of theaters occasionally playing a Netflix movie tend to be. A film opens five blocks from your house, and you think,...

Veteran director David Fincer worked alongside iconic actor Morgan Freeman when they created and shot the 1995 film Se7en. Portraying the role of Detective Somerset in the crime/mystery film, Freeman loved Fincher’s work and the two decided to work together again.

However, Fincher never got to make his dream film with Morgan Freeman due to the latter’s failing health in the year 2008. With passing time and no hopes left, Fincher’s dream film was later picked up by Dune director Denis Villeneuve and he describes it as “Arrival on steroids”!

Despite becoming a box-office flop upon its release, Brad Pitt’s Fight Club has stood the test of time, becoming one of the most influential releases from David Fincher. However, its impact isn’t just limited to the viewers, as director Steven Caple Jr. too took inspiration from the action thriller for the 2023 Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
For his reimagination of the popular IP, the director filmmaker incorporated Pete Davidson into the feature, whose character took major inspiration from Pitt’s Tyler Durden.

Red Rooms.A little irony from the land of Alanis Morissette: Red Rooms (2023)—a movie named for and concerning a series of apocryphal dark-web sites trafficking in unsimulated snuff videos—is currently unavailable for commercial streaming in the United States. This despite the fact that Pascal Plante’s Montreal-set thriller, which is up for six Canadian Screen Awards on May 30, is almost perfectly calibrated for American—which is to say global—sensibilities, to the point that it suggests a prestige streaming procedural shrunken down to feature length and fed through Google Translate. The only thing separating Juliette Gariépy’s statuesque, possibly sociopathic amateur hacker Kelly-Anne from her Scandinavian counterparts is the lack of a dragon tattoo. This is not a put-down, nor even a backhanded compliment; in a year when the CSAs will likely be swept by Blackberry (2023), a revision of The Social Network (2010) by a group of resourceful Toronto pranksters,...

2024’s Venice Film Festival isn’t far away. Last year’s event was one that was slightly cut down due to the ongoing strikes that had befallen Hollywood and prevented a number of actors from attending for the promotion of their films. The films that screened last year included David Fincher’s The Killer, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, Ava DuVernay’s Origin, Michael Mann’s Ferrari and Bradley Cooper’s Maestro. The line-up for films out of competition featured such big names as Woody Allen, Wes Anderson, William Friedkin, Richard Linklater and Roman Polanski.
The 81st Annual Venice Film Festival is set for August 28 to September 7. Variety is reporting that among the films that are being rumored for screenings is the Todd Phillips follow-up to the Joaquin Phoenix reimagining of DC’s Clown Prince of Crime. William Friedkin’s The Exorcist was one of the few horror movies that managed to keep its viewers up late at night, tucked in the safety of their blankets. If they needed a glass of water and that clock was past midnight, they would just have to wait till the sun was up to quench their thirst. A true horror film in all its glory! And now, director Mike Flanagan will be taking on the responsibility of taking the franchise a step forward.
William Friedkin’s The Exorcist (1973) | Warner Bros.
The Exorcist has had quite a few sequels to date, 5 to be exact. Unfortunately, none of them had an impact on their audience like the O.G. The franchise also produced a television series, The Exorcist, which did well. Coming back to the movies, one failed sequel after the other slowly extinguished the fans’ hopes, and they gave up on the franchise altogether.

Time and again, the crime-drama genre has been used to highlight how evil men are and how they’ve turned the world into a hellscape for women. David Fincher has practically dedicated a major chunk of his life to trying to tell people that America, and practically any country that decides to emulate America, has become unlivable for women because there are too many psychopaths running around everywhere. Films like Memories of a Murder, Talvar, and Silence of the Lambs showed that the justice system is weirdly biased towards men, and even though these representatives of justice don’t have any personal relations with the perpetrator, they always try to give them the benefit of the doubt just so that they can play down the trauma inflicted upon a woman. And Killers of the Flower Moon highlighted the fact that if misogyny is mixed with racism, then its repercussions can be felt throughout generations.

It took Robert Downey Jr. a while to completely understand the ways of an iconic director – David Fincher.
David Fincher is one of the greatest filmmakers alive today thanks to his incredible eye for detail and dark, intelligent narratives in his films. He began his journey as a director with Alien 3 and then went on to blow everyone away with his 1995 film, Seven. He has also directed Gone Girl, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Fight Club, a film that is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon across the globe.

However, it is his 2007 release, Zodiac, that remains one of our all-time favorites. The film follows the story of the infamous Zodiac Killer and stars Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo along with Jake Gyllenhaal. Now, David Fincher is notorious for doing retakes until the scene reaches perfection.

There have been multiple instances in Hollywood’s filmmaking industry where actors and directors didn’t quite see eye to eye and the situations ended up in behind-the-scenes fiascos. Well, it seems like Robert Downey Jr. had been in one of those situations, considering how he was reportedly so fed up with his film’s director that he started protesting in his own hilariously genius ways.

For the record, this happened years ago in the late 2000s, before Rdj had even starred in his first superhero movie (Iron Man) but after he had somewhat retraced his steps back into the industry after pretty much falling out due to drug abuse. And, surprisingly enough, the director he reportedly had beef with was the legendary director behind masterpieces like Fight Club: David Fincher.

Alien 3 has a storied history, with shifting writers and directors, studio interference and complete disarray. It’s all well documented and continues to be one of the most faceted “What if?” productions in modern movies. What if William Gibson’s script was used? What if Ridley’s role had been diminished to the point of cameo? What if Renny Harlin had stayed on as director of Alien 3? Well, on the last point, the director wants fans to know that his departure came down to story issues.
Speaking with SlashFilm, Renny Harlin recalled wanting to bring Xenomorphs to Earth for Alien 3, which would have shook up the structure and taken audiences through something they hadn’t yet experienced. “The concept of having these creatures on Earth for the studio, it felt scary and unattainable. Few singers were as good at making music videos as Madonna. Madonna’s “Express Yourself” inspired one of her best clips but it has a major error. The video doesn’t totally sync with the music! One of Madonna’s most famous producers explained why this is the case.
The music video for Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself’ has nonsensical horns
Shep Pettibone is a dance music artist who is most known for his work on Madonna’s “Vogue,” as well as some of her lesser-known singles such as “Deeper and Deeper,” “This Used to Be My Playground,” and “Erotica.” Before that, he crafted remixes for the Material Girl. During a 2015 interview with Billboard, Pettibone explained how one of his remixes created an incongruity in the “Express Yourself” music video.
“[The ‘Express Yourself’ remix] was a total reproduction and I totally rewrote the music,” he recalled. “And I really started from scratch with ‘Express Yourself.

Plot: Stolen from her people as a child and forced to witness her mother’s execution, young Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) sets out on an epic quest for vengeance against the warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth).
Review: George Miller’s Mad Max series contains not one but two of the most incredible action movies ever made. Sure, there’s Fury Road, but there’s also The Road Warrior. Both are masterpieces of their genre, so the bar has been set pretty high for Miller’s return to the Wasteland. The early reviews seem overly concerned that Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga isn’t a replay of Mad Mad: Fury Road, with it telling an epic, fifteen-year tale, the likes of which has never been attempted in the series before. From the 1979 original onward, all the movies told relatively compact stories, so Miller and co-writer Nico Lathouris deserve praise for doing something different.

Directed by David Fincher, Alien 3 was released in 1992...and deemed a major disappointment after Alien and Aliens. Still, the movie earned a loyal fanbase in the years that followed, with many defending it as an underrated classic.

Her companions, Newt and Hicks, perish in the crash, and Ripley discovers that a Xenomorph has also survived. While most of the hype is gained by actors, it is the writers’ guild who are unspoken heroes that deserve more recognition. The right screenplay and, in particular, the well-written lines make a movie catchy and unforgettable for the audience.

For the past three years, the American Cinematheque has presented “Bleak Week,” an annual festival devoted to the greatest films ever made about the darkest side of humanity. This year, the festival will not only be unspooling in Los Angeles June 1 – 7 — with special guests including Al Pacino, Lynne Ramsay, Charlie Kaufman, and Karyn Kusama — but will travel to New York for the first time with a week of screenings at the historic Paris Theater starting June 9.
“We are honored to co-present ‘Bleak Week: New York’ in partnership with one of the most beautiful movie palaces in the world,” Cinematheque artistic director Grant Moninger told IndieWire. “This year, over 10,000 people will attend ‘Bleak Week: Year 3’ in Los Angeles, proving that audiences are hungry for such powerful and confrontational cinema. Taraji P. Henson has been one of the most vocal actresses in Hollywood at the moment. The Hidden Figures star gained recognition for her role in Hustle & Flow, and David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, for which she earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She has since starred in a number of films such as The Karate Kid.
Henson recently opened up about many of the issues she faced while filming the musical adaptation of The Color Purple. The novel by Alice Walker was first adapted by Steven Spielberg, which has since gained many criticisms for its portrayal of Black people. Henson called him out for one element in the film, which the filmmaker has admitted to in the past.

Everywhere on social media, you read comments from readers lamenting our modern culture.
They long for the good old days when comedy was offensive, antiheroes said whatever they were thinking, and actors were judged by their undeniable talent rather than the biggest mistakes of their careers.
Plotlines were more important than representation. Complicated characters were more important than "Wokeness."
Back then, they say, it didn't matter if a character was black or gay. All that mattered was the story.
We watched because a filmmaker had something important to say, not because every race and sexual orientation appeared and was treated with respect.
We listened because regardless of what anyone said about a comedian, at least he was funny!
Unsurprisingly, many of the same social critics would also say no movies from the 2010-2030 era will be remembered as classics 20 or 30 years from now.

Are we on the verge of a Livelaissance? Four years after her last live-action movie role, Blake Lively is returning to the big screen this year with "It Ends With Us." The film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's best-selling toxic relationship novel made waves this past week with the arrival of its trailer, which even came fitted with an appropriately bleary-eyed tune by Lively's buddy Taylor Swift. If Heat and The Insider are agreed upon as Michael Mann’s all-time best films, what is the director’s most underrated feature to date? Is it Thief? The Keep? Manhunter? Public Enemies? Nah. There’s only one acceptable answer: 2004’s criminally overlooked nocturnal neo-noir Collateral. Featuring a rare villainous turn by Tom Cruise and a restrained Oscar-nominated performance by Jamie Foxx, the L.A. crime story was the first film in history to utilize the Viper FilmStream High Definition Camera. The digital format that David Fincher would later adopt for use on Zodiac and Benjamin Button. Beyond the cutting-edge technology, the remote locations Mann and his production team gave viewers a much different glimpse of Los Angeles away from the glamor of Hollywood and into the seedy, sinister parts of town rarely seen on the big screen.

In the diverse field of sci-fi horror, the Alien franchise stands as a cornerstone. A film series that launched the genre’s popularity to its greatest heights. The space horror production was established by the renowned director Ridley Scott back in 1979, when the first movie came out. Since then, the murderous ETs have been handled by various auteurs, from James Cameron to David Fincher. Finnish director Renny Harlin once was painfully close to joining that list.
Sigourney Weaver in Alien |20th Century Studios
The Strangers: Chapter 1 director once had a chance to direct the third installment in the Alien filmology. But destiny had other plans for Harlin, who had to part ways with the project after desperately trying to convince 20th Century Studios of his vision for the film and failing.
Harlin’s plans would have steered the franchise back to its horror roots as opposed to more sci-fi as seen in later films.

It can be extremely disappointing to get into a show only to have it canceled. But the more competition there is among TV networks, streaming platforms and production companies, the harder they are on shows that don't seem to bring in nearly enough viewers to be considered profitable.
Unfortunately, many great TV shows are overlooked today simply because they're cut too early. So, if you are willing to brace yourself and deal with the fact that you may never know the true finale, here are 8 amazing series that are worth every minute spent in front of the TV.
Firefly (2002-2003)
It's hard to say that the cancellation was unjustified, as Firefly premiered to very low ratings. However, it wasn't even given a chance to intrigue viewers, as the show was misadvertised and the network decided to air episodes out of order, making it difficult for viewers to get into the story.

"Alien 3" remains a fascinating entry within one of sci-fi's most enduring franchises. While both Ridley Scott's original "Alien" and James Cameron's "Aliens" remain unimpeachable classics, the third entry is a bit more divisive. It was director David Fincher's feature debut and the end result is a bit messy, in no small part thanks to studio interference. The version we got sees Sigourney Weaver's Ripley in a space prison, once again facing off against a Xenomorph. But director Renny Harlin, of "Deep Blue Sea" and "Cliffhanger" fame, had a radically different idea for the film when he was attached, and sadly, that version never came to fruition.
"I always thought that I had a good idea," Harlin said recently in an interview with /Film's Jacob Hall in honor of his upcoming film "The Strangers: Chapter 1," which is the first part of a whole new trilogy.

Brad Pitt is known for his work in an array of genres, that cemented him among the high-profile Hollywood actors. Among his projects, his 1995 crime thriller, Se7en remains a highly acclaimed work that catapulted the actor to more serious, dramatic roles. While the entire project continued to give off spooky vibes, one cannot help but agree that the unseen movie ending remains one of the most unsettling sequences.
Brad Pitt in Se7en (1995)
The film director, David Fincher wanted to elevate the gore element in the last sequence but the actor meddled to keep things just like what we witnessed in the final cut. He even added a certain clause before signing the project to keep Fincher from making any changes later in the movie.

Se7en never fails to find itself as one of the greatest thrillers ever made. The David Fincher movie starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman in the lead focuses on two cops trying to stop a serial killer, executing murders across the city according to the Biblical Seven Deadly Sins.
Brad Pitt as David Mills in 1995’s Se7en | New Line Cinema
From the plot to the performances and technical aspects, several aspects helped the film to be critically and commercially successful. However, one of the primary highlights of the film was its ending. Se7en‘s harrowing conclusion is still discussed heavily among pop culture enthusiasts.
Interestingly, Brad Pitt played a vital role in framing Se7en‘s ending. The Fight Club star ensured two non-negotiable conditions in his contract that did not let the makers change the ending midway.

As the Cannes Film Festival celebrates its parties and standing ovations, audiences in Hollywood and New York prepare to wallow in despair. And they’ll enjoy it (almost).
The festival called Bleak Week this week will deliver 43 films to an expected audience of 10,000 at theaters including the restored Egyptian in Hollywood, the Aero in Santa Monica and the Paris in New York.
Created by the American Cinematheque, Bleak Week will feature celebrities and Q&a sessions explaining why their projects deal with existential dread, nihilism and “uncomfortable truths,” as Bleak Week creative director Grant Moninger puts it.
Not surprisingly, there surely also will be post-screening alcoholic consumption for filmgoers seeking to ease the pain.
As the Cinematheque details it, Bleak Week was not prompted by Gaza, student protests, geomagnetic storms or the possible loss of yet another studio (Paramount).

Brad Pitt has starred in several incredible movies but his zombie horror flick, World War Z, is an underrated classic that fans love. Released in 2013, it is one of his most successful movies of all time despite its moderate critical reviews. Inspired by a 2006 novel of the same name by author Max Brooks, fans have been waiting for a sequel for a long time.

While a sequel was said to be in the works and was later canceled, there is one awesome detail about the film that fans would want to know: a clip of Zombies dancing to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. After Pitt revealed years ago that such a video exists and promised that he would show it someday, it has been long enough for Pitt to release it finally.

Dawson’s Creek creator Kevin Williamson’s return to North Carolina is heading to Netflix.
Williamson’s family drama series The Waterfront has been ordered to series by the streamer. It comes a few months after Deadline revealed that the Scream writer was working on the series as part of a new overall deal with Universal Television.
Inspired by true events, The Waterfront dives into the flawed Buckley family as their attempts to retain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire drive them to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves afloat.
While much of Dawson’s Creek takes place in the fictional town of Capeside, Massachusetts, it was actually shot in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Williamson was born in New Bern, North Carolina, the son of a fisherman.
He will write and exec produce the series with Ben Fast from his Outerbanks Entertainment also exec producing.

Netflix has greenlit a family drama series titled “The Waterfront” written by Kevin Williamson.
Per the official logline, the series is inspired by true events and “dives into the flawed Buckley family as their attempts to retain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire drive them to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves afloat.”
“The Waterfront” is being produced by Universal Television, and was announced to be in development earlier this year when Williamson entered an overall deal at the studio. He and Ben Fast serve as executive producers via Williamsons’s Outerbanks Entertainment banner.

In the "Star Trek" episode "And the Children Shall Lead", the Enterprise discovers a remote science station where the entire staff seems to have died by their own hands. Chillingly, the children of the staff -- all of them under 12 -- seem oblivious to the dead bodies scattered around, happily playing and giggling as usual. Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley) posits that the kids might have blocked out the horrors as a form of protective amnesia, but soon the real plot is revealed. In private, the children are visited by a ghostly being named Gorgan who imbues them with eerie mental powers and gives them dark instructions.
Gorgan tells the children to take over the Enterprise, which they are able to do by pumping their fists and hypnotizing the crew. Sulu (George Takei) looks at the viewscreen and sees knives and swords. Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) looks in a mirror and sees...

Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy was a huge deal in the publishing world. The books kicked off with "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo". When a book series generates as much heat as this one, the movies come calling. Sure enough, the entire original trilogy was adapted into three films in Sweden. Later, Hollywood took a stab at it, too, with English-language adaptations, but we'll get to those later. First, though, let's talk about the original trilogy and the correct order to watch it.

Quentin Tarantino is undoubtedly one of the finest filmmakers of our time. But as much as he is a passionate filmmaker, he is also a passionate cinephile: having absorbed the best that contemporary cinema has to offer since childhood, Tarantino bases his work on the most recognizable tropes and directorial styles, creating a refined pop culture mishmash. And as a huge film buff, Tarantino shared a list of the 20 films he 'admires the most' in a conversation with Sky Movies in 2009.
20 Must-Watch Movies According to Tarantino
Before we get to the list itself, it's important to note that it's not in order of importance, but in alphabetical order. Except for the number one, because for Tarantino it is 'favorite movie that has come out in the last 17 years.' Besides, as he pointed out, this is one of the few movies he would personally dream of directing.

Jesse Eisenberg has made a career out of playing socially awkward characters who find themselves in an extraordinary situation. The actor hit the peak of this trope when he was cast as Mark Zuckerberg in David Fincher’s The Social Network. The film was universally acclaimed and was nominated in eight categories at the Oscars, winning three.
Amidst screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, who adapted the first film from the book The Accidental Billionaires, talking about working on a sequel to the film, actor Jesse Eisenberg had expressed his enthusiasm at getting another stab at playing the billionaire long ago. However, he was not that hopeful about playing another billionaire he had played before – Lex Luthor.

Nicolas Cage is the cinema’s giant, famous mostly for his mainstream action movies, like The Rock (1996), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000) and, of course, the Ghost Rider film series (2007–2011). Nevertheless, he’s also much of a thriller actor, capable of putting more suspense and mystery with his impeccable performances.
It’s proved by the film, which is now surprisingly holding the seventh place in Netflix’s global chart, even though it was released in 2011 and since that has been seemingly forgotten. It’s definitely a must-watch for the crime procedurals’ enjoyers.
The movie’s plot revolves around an Alaskan policeman, portrayed by Cage, who is having much trouble solving the biggest case of his whole career, the one of a serial killer (John Cusack), kidnapping and performing sexual assault on the young women.
He’s accompanied by a reckless prostitute (Vanessa Hudgens), appearing to be the maniac’s victim who managed to avoid death.

A few months ago, I wrote an article listing ten movies that – despite being well known – were difficult to find (legally) on any streaming service or even on disc. Those titles ranged from Ron Howard’s Cocoon to movies like Dawn of the Dead (the original). In the comments, many of our readers chimed in with their two cents on films they’ve found difficult to find over the years, so here are a few more challenging-to-find flicks, some of which may surprise you.
Panic Room:
The fact that David Fincher’s Panic Room has never been issued on Blu-ray blows me away. There are many classic films with David Fincher’s name on them. From Gone Girl to Fight Club, there is not a movie he has made that managed to escape the hearts of fans. The range he has provided brings about the idea of possible sequels he could look back to at some point in Fincher’s career. In the direction Hollywood has recently been taking, there are more sequels than there are original films.

James Cameron gave one of the biggest blockbusters ever with the disaster epic Titanic. The film, which was a love story set during the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, was the highest-grossing film of all time until it was surpassed by his own film Avatar. Cameron’s film became a pop cultural milestone for its depiction of the disaster and has become one of the most adored romances.
While Cameron has delivered blockbusters that have been great pieces of art, he is known for running a tight ship on set. Many stories have come out of his autocratic behavior and his long schedules without breaks. Titanic actor Bernard Hill mentioned that he used to be very hard on actors and crew members who did not give their full potential for the film.

David Fincher’s star-studded crime thriller Se7en is one of the best in the genre. The film featuring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman in the lead, starred Kevin Spacey as a serial killer executing murders across the city based on the seven deadly sins. However, when the film was released, Spacey decided to be absent from the marketing campaign and the opening credits due to a genius reason.
Kevin Spacey in Se7en
Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt headlined Se7en as an almost-retired detective and his young partner investigating the brutal murders by the serial killer. The film can be easily credited as a horror piece due to the horrific murders that are shown. But what made it more popular for the fans was the shock to find out who the killer was. Spacey planned to make it play out that way.

Despite being released ten years ago, David Fincher’s Gone Girl starring Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck is still considered one of the finest thrillers ever made with all its shocking plot twists and jaw-dropping details of the reality behind the seemingly happy family’s facade.
Though the film had a very specific source it took its plot from, the former was inspired by a lot of books and events — including real-life horrifying murders.
Based on Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same name, Gone Girl follows a happily married couple of Nick and Amy, portrayed by Affleck and Pike respectively, whose life seems to be just impeccable until one day Amy vanishes leaving some weird traces looking more like parts of one big quest.
