- DirectorClint EastwoodStarsSean PennTim RobbinsKevin BaconThe tragic murder of a 19-year-old girl reunites three childhood friends still living in Boston--the victim's gangster father, a detective, and the disturbed man they both suspect of killing her. This movie I saw when I was younger with some friends and I remember it was pretty jarring and paints a disturbing picture, but nonetheless a philosophical film about friendship, love, the choices we make, and their consequences. Living with sadness and what we do about it when faced with it and crookedness/ awful side of any town.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsAl PacinoRobin WilliamsHilary SwankTwo Los Angeles homicide detectives are dispatched to a northern town where the sun doesn't set to investigate the methodical murder of a local teen. The climax of this movie is epic, and having a Pacino collab with Chris Nolan considering Nolan took inspo from movies like Heat is a treat to see.
- DirectorJon AmielStarsSigourney WeaverHolly HunterDermot MulroneyAn agoraphobic psychologist and a female detective must work together to take down a serial killer who copies serial killers from the past.Noir crime that has some pretty terrifying parts, made up for by S Weaver and H Hunt.
- DirectorCurtis HansonStarsKevin SpaceyRussell CroweGuy PearceAs corruption grows in 1950s Los Angeles, three policemen - one strait-laced, one brutal, and one sleazy - investigate a series of murders with their own brand of justice.Discovered this movie not long ago, it has it all with a pretty good story and cast that fit the bill, for the era - namely Basinger, Crow, and Richie that carry it. There are some others that are similar being Mullholland falls for the era but I still prefer this
- DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsKirk DouglasJohn CassavetesCarrie SnodgressA former CIA agent uses the talents of a young psychic to help retrieve his telekinetic son from a shadowy secret government agency.A De Palma film, you can see his fingerprints here. Surprisingly this is not talked about much but it is almost horror/ supernatural thriller That I thoroughly enjoyed that is pretty interesting in its ideas.
- DirectorClint EastwoodStarsClint EastwoodGene HackmanEd HarrisCareer thief Luther Whitney (Clint Eastwood) witnesses a horrific crime involving U.S. President Alan Richmond (Gene Hackman).Another Eastwood flick I adore, mainly for Laura Linney, Eastwood and Hackman, also Allstate man.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsCate BlanchettKatie HolmesKeanu ReevesA fortune teller with extrasensory perception is asked to help find a young woman who has mysteriously disappeared. This has some truly scary parts that will make the hair stick up on your skin! But good performance from Blanchett, Keanu Reeves and tow.
- DirectorJames MangoldStarsJohn CusackRay LiottaAmanda PeetStranded at a desolate Nevada motel during a nasty rain storm, ten strangers become acquainted with each other when they realize that they're being killed off one by one. This is a solid little thriller, I like Ms. Amanda Peet in this and the story has a nice cohesion
- DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsJennifer LawrenceJoel EdgertonMatthias SchoenaertsBallerina Dominika Egorova is recruited to 'Sparrow School,' a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. Her first mission, targeting a C.I.A. agent, threatens to unravel the security of both nations. This turned out to be a kind of more action, violent movie than I anticipated. Has some slow parts, and the final resolution is not maybe not the most believable it has a pretty good narrative showcasing the workings of Russian agents
- DirectorDavid LeitchStarsCharlize TheronJames McAvoyJohn GoodmanAn undercover MI6 agent is sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow agent and recover a missing list of double agents.I love this movie! I saw it in the theater and the scene with Lorraine going down the stairs taking out baddies and getting bloodied up is legend! One baddass lady if I must say so.
- DirectorPaul VerhoevenStarsKevin BaconElisabeth ShueJosh BrolinA brilliant scientist's discovery renders him invisible, but transforms him into an omnipotent, dangerous megalomaniac.Watch this and ignore the sequel. It has pretty decent special effects for time. And Bacon plays an unhinged lunatic with Elisabeth Shue most likely in her prime at this time too.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsNoomi RapaceLogan Marshall-GreenMichael FassbenderFollowing clues to the origin of mankind, a team finds a structure on a distant moon, but they soon realize they are not alone. No surprises here, watch for Charlize theron and precursor to ALien
- DirectorTaylor HackfordStarsKeanu ReevesAl PacinoCharlize TheronAn exceptionally-adept Florida lawyer is offered a job at a high-end New York City law firm with a high-end boss--the biggest opportunity of his career to date.Pretty good exhibition here with good cast to tote being Connie Nielsen, Charlize Theron, Keanu Reeves and the devil himself Pacino who's last 15 minute triumphant tirade will have you dismiss your dissipated god and cherish one last night before humanity's lost.
- DirectorFrank OzStarsRobert De NiroEdward NortonMarlon BrandoAn aging thief hopes to retire and live off his ill-gotten wealth with his lover when a young kid convinces him into doing one last heist that comes with a large payout.Good little caper that has de Niro and Norton even if movies like this started to become a little formulaic at the time with others like The Italian Job released around the same time.
- DirectorAlejandro G. IñárrituStarsLeonardo DiCaprioTom HardyWill PoulterA frontiersman on a fur trading expedition in the 1820s fights for survival after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team.Seeing this on the big screen was a joyride. Buckle in for a face off between Dicaprio and Tom Hardy out in the buck wild wilderness of the Americas
- DirectorJohn IrvinStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerKathryn HarroldSam WanamakerA former FBI agent turned small-town sheriff agrees to help the FBI chief infiltrate the Chicago mafia when the FBI chief's son is killed by them. This is an 80s movie done right. A pretty girl, Robert Davi, Big, Bombastic, shot like the godfather for a true Gangster movie and witness Arnie on the come up.
- DirectorRenny HarlinStarsSylvester StalloneJohn LithgowMichael RookerA botched mid-air heist results in suitcases full of cash being searched for by various groups throughout the Rocky Mountains. One of the best actioners in my humble opinion, a love story, and lotta action on snowcaps. What more can you want?
- DirectorLuis LlosaStarsSylvester StalloneSharon StoneJames WoodsA woman entices a bomb expert she's involved with into destroying the mafia that killed her family. An actioner that has been a little bit thrown away to the sands of time due to underwhelming commercial success. But its cheese galore and James Woods chewing up the scenery adds to it along with beautiful Sharon Stone! But I say be what it is, sprinkle on the cheese here. Come on people if I was alive I would have seen this movie.
- DirectorAvi NesherStarsMichael BiehnPatsy KensitTracy ScogginsEddy is recognized on TV after rescuing two. A group tries to kill the peaceful watchmaker. Why? He sees a cute analyst.Nice sci fi that sees Michael Biehn and a blonde seductress follow him around for some early 90s sci fi action
- DirectorJohn DahlStarsRay LiottaLinda FiorentinoPeter CoyoteA Seattle medical examiner uses an experimental memory transference drug to unravel the mystery surrounding his Wife's brutal murder.Underrated little movie that has good performance from L Florentino and Liotta. I enjoyed the ending too, where it is somewhat like a dream but also what the character would have wanted but it actually feels like a memory that did take place also perhaps something remembered in the final moments of ones life
- DirectorAlejandro G. IñárrituStarsMichael KeatonZach GalifianakisEdward NortonA washed-up superhero actor attempts to revive his fading career by writing, directing, and starring in a Broadway production.I was old enough to see this movie when it came out! A romp through a seedy theater in NY with a bunch of dirty playwrights, is good times all around with Emma stone, Watts, Norton, and an aging Michael Keaton questioning and recollecting his life's work thinking it surmises to nothing at the end of the day - a thought we've all had to some degree.
- DirectorJoe CharbanicStarsJames SpaderKeanu ReevesMarisa TomeiDavid Allen Griffin is a cool killer- time and time again, he chooses a female victim, studies her for weeks till he knows her routine to the smallest detail, makes meticulous preparations using his forensic knowledge to gain entry when she's quite alone, subdues her and administers a long, torturous death. Joel Campbell got so frustrated by his failure to capture Griffin in Los Angeles, that he quit the FBI, moved to Chicago, and remains in psychiatric therapy, unable to function normally. Then he realizes, when opening his mail very late, that a new murder victim is Griffin's, and the killer sent him pictures of her. Campbell reports this to the police, but is unwilling to join them in the search, suggesting Griffin is too slick and clever; yet he won't get out of it that easily.Say what you might about this, despite shortcomings, supposedly Keanu didnt want to appear in this movie and was paid off to do it. That alone is interesting. I recall one of the guys in Limp Bizkit speaking about this maybe the filmmaker that was involved
- DirectorJun FalkensteinStarsJim CummingsNikita HopkinsKen SansomTigger goes looking through the hundred-acre-wood to find his family.Ah the feels :) Theres only one tigger like theres only one Yoda! Wait or is there?
