- DirectorJeremiah S. ChechikStarsRalph FiennesUma ThurmanSean ConneryTwo British Agents team up to stop Sir August de Wynter from destroying the world with a weather-changing machine.Number 1 of 365. A rewatch, but a fun one. I always enjoyed this movie, and it was great to see it again after watching the series over the summer.
- DirectorMichael D. AkersStarsLeo MinayaJack KesyDarra Like Dat BoydA paralyzed gay bicycle racer risks home, relationships and personal health to reenter the fray as a paraplegic racer.2 of 365. Some drama school acting at times but a heart of frickin' gold. Loved it.
- DirectorGareth CarrivickStarsChris O'DowdMarc WoottonDean Lennox KellyWhile drinking at their local pub, three social outcasts attempt to navigate a time-travel conundrum.3 of 365. This was fun. I'm usually wary of time travel films, but this didn't take itself too seriously. Reminded me of John Dies at the End, though not nearly as good.
- DirectorDavid GelbStarsOlivia WildeMark DuplassEvan PetersA group of medical researchers discover a way to bring dead patients back to life.4 of 365. Not bad, probably will never watch again. Essentially Pet Semetary for 2015.
- DirectorKevin GreutertStarsSarah SnookMark WebberJoelle CarterReturning to her childhood home in Louisiana to recuperate from a horrific car accident, Jessabelle comes face to face with a long-tormented spirit that has been seeking her return -- and has no intention of letting her escape.5 of 365. I liked this. Very The Skeleton Key. Louisiana is getting a bad reputation thanks to its creepy horror films.
- DirectorBruce La BruceStarsPier-Gabriel LajoieWalter BordenKatie BolandA young man begins exploring his attraction to much much older men while working in a nursing home.6 of 365. Save for being slightly slow in places, my kind of movie. Terrific and affecting.
- DirectorJon TurteltaubStarsRobert De NiroMichael DouglasMorgan FreemanBilly, Paddy, Archie and Sam have been best friends since childhood. When Billy proposes to his much-younger girlfriend, they go to Vegas to relive their glory days. However, the decades have changed Sin City and tested their friendship.7 of 365. I'm always pleased when a comedy makes me laugh. And it's nice to see a different demographic. Kevin Kline is looking good, btw. Also, Morgan Freeman is in all movies these days. All of them.
- DirectorKazuaki KiriyaStarsClive OwenMorgan FreemanAksel HennieA fallen warrior rises against a corrupt and sadistic ruler to avenge his dishonored master.8 of 365. Did I not just say Morgan Freeman was in all movies. You've seen one ronin movie, you've seen them all. I'd watch Clive Owen read the phone book, though...Salty goodnes.
- DirectorErik Van LooyStarsKarl UrbanJames MarsdenWentworth MillerFive married guys secretly share a penthouse loft in the city where they can carry out hidden affairs. The fantasy becomes a nightmare, however, when they discover a dead woman in the loft and realize one of the group must be involved.9 of 365. Interesting thriller made all the better by genius casting.
- DirectorPhillip NoyceStarsBrenton ThwaitesJeff BridgesMeryl StreepIn a seemingly perfect community without war, pain, suffering, differences or choices, a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man, the true pain and pleasure of the "real" world.10 of 365. I think I'll always choose to opt in on the utopia run by Meryl. Just sayin'.
- DirectorAdam RobitelStarsJill LarsonAnne RamsayMichelle AngAn elderly woman battling Alzheimer's disease agrees to let a film crew document her condition, but what they discover is something far more sinister going on.11 of 365. Recommended by my friend Chris. Always enjoy a decent horror film.
- DirectorSteve RashStarsGil BirminghamBrandon RouthCrystal AllenA story centered on a Native American lacrosse team making its way through a prep school league tournament.12 of 365. Always nice to see Native Americans in movies. Gets a little 90s mystic-y (think The Air Up There), but it's enjoyable.
- DirectorToshiya FujitaStarsMeiko KajiToshio KurosawaMasaaki DaimonA strikingly beautiful young woman is trained from birth to be a deadly instrument of revenge against the swindlers who destroyed her family.13 of 365. After Kill Bill Vol. 1 came out, I told myself I would watch this movie. 13 years later, I finally got around to it. Good movie.
- DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsDaisy RidleyJohn BoyegaOscar IsaacAs a new threat to the galaxy rises, Rey, a desert scavenger, and Finn, an ex-stormtrooper, must join Han Solo and Chewbacca to search for the one hope of restoring peace.14 of 365. Watched in a swanky theater with insufficient parking. Fun movie.
- DirectorMiguel Ángel VivasStarsMatthew FoxJeffrey DonovanQuinn McColganAnd suddenly, overnight, the world came to a halt. Two men, two survivors, one kid, and hatred that separates them. A place forgotten by everyone, including the creatures that inhabit the Earth... until now.15 of 365. Standard zombie-style flick. Not bad, not exceptional.
- DirectorJonathan MilottCary MurnionStarsElijah WoodRainn WilsonAlison PillA mysterious virus hits an isolated elementary school, transforming the kids into a feral swarm of mass savages. An unlikely hero must lead a motley band of teachers in the fight of their lives.16 of 365. Funny at points, but could have used a little tightening up. Supports my theory that all comedies these days think they require vomit in them. They don't. Also, darkly fun to watch kids get hit in the face with baseballs and set on fire. Don't worry; they're carnivorous zombie kids, so it's fine.
- DirectorFrank MillerRobert RodriguezStarsMickey RourkeJessica AlbaJosh BrolinSome of Sin City's most hard-boiled citizens cross paths with a few of its more reviled inhabitants.17 of 365. These movies always feel so effing stylish to me.
- DirectorJudd ApatowStarsAmy SchumerBill HaderBrie LarsonHaving thought that monogamy was never possible, a commitment-phobic career woman may have to face her fears when she meets a good guy.18 of 365. More vomit-in-comedy evidence. Funny movie, though.
- DirectorDavid HayterStarsLucas TillStephen McHattieJohn Pyper-FergusonA boy is trying to find out about his family history and stumbles upon a town of lycans.19 of 365. Not a great movie, and I'm fairly lenient with werewolf movies. Watchable, but not more than once. Also, anyone else think these looked more like werecats?
- DirectorYen TanStarsBailey BassMarcus DeAndaYesenia GarciaRecovering from an ill-fated affair with a married man, Gabe finds solace in the relationship he maintains with his ex-wife and daughter. On the other side of town, Ernesto evades life at home with his current live-in ex-boyfriend by spending much of his spare time visiting a different, comatose, ex-boyfriend, who was in a recent accident. Impervious to the monotony of their blue-collar world, they maintain an unwavering yearning for romance. The emotional isolation the two men have grown accustomed to is captured in a subtle, optimistic, poetic fashion while avoiding melodrama. The film premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, and was also screened at several other film festivals in the US and Canada, including a variety of both traditional and LGBT themed fests.20 of 365. I loved it. It captured that loneliness and furtiveness of being gay in small town Texas (or Oklahoma, in my case). It had an interesting narrative and took its time in inventive ways. I also really loved the depiction of frot sex as legitimate sex men have together. One negative - it needs a better title. Great film.
- DirectorDavid WainStarsPaul RuddAmy PoehlerBill HaderMolly owns a quaint little sweet shop. Joel works for a gigantic candy company threatening to shut her down. How they meet, fall in love, break up and get back together is hilariously recounted in this rom-com spoof.21 of 365. I enjoyed it, but you really have to like absurdist comedy and/or have familiarity and appreciation for the Wain/Showalter brand of comedy. The Judge Judy cameo made it totally worth it.
- DirectorDean IsraeliteStarsAmy LandeckerSofia Black-D'EliaVirginia GardnerA group of teens discovers secret plans for a time machine, and construct one. However, things start to get out of control.22 of 365. Why do I watch time travel movies? Why?? From now on, it's Terminator or nothing.
- DirectorKristin HanggiStarsVictoria JusticePierson FodeMatthew DaddarioNaomi and Ely have loved each other their whole lives, even though Ely isn't exactly into girls. The institution of a "No Kiss List" has prevented the two from rifts in the past, but bonds are tested when they both fall for the same guy.23 of 365. Not bad, not great. Naomi annoyed me to no end. I do wholeheartedly appreciate the Hedwig and the Angry Inch karaoke.
- DirectorGilles Paquet-BrennerStarsCharlize TheronNicholas HoultChristina HendricksLibby Day was only eight years old when her family was brutally murdered in their rural Kansas farmhouse. Almost thirty years later, she reluctantly agrees to revisit the crime and uncovers the wrenching truths that led up to that tragic night.24 of 365. Nice little thriller.
- DirectorNima NourizadehStarsJesse EisenbergKristen StewartConnie BrittonA stoner - who is in fact a government agent - is marked as a liability and targeted for extermination. But he's too well-trained and too high for them to handle.25 of 365. Meh. Something about the two leads just didn't get me excited for what was an interesting premise. Other people are sure to love this. Liked seeing Connie Britton.
