She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Struggling with this..
Oh dear, oh dear. I'm a sucker for persevering with series, especially MCU ones. But what was the thinking behind this?
When a character turns to the camera to enthuse about cameos like Wong you know that the series is in desperate trouble.
It started so well with her and Banner. Tom Roth ways welcome interjection too.
But then it gets lost in a way that you just won't believe. Tinder? Please!
I guess I must be conning myself in watching the next episode thinking it wilyget better.
As one reviewer has already said, is this the end of MCU after so many glorious years of superb films and TV series?
I think yes.
La Brea (2021)
Oh dear... not great tbh
Got to say that I really looked forward to seeing this, but who wrote the dialogue?? It really feels like it has been farmed out to some Hollywood wannabe writers.
It's a great idea, but the script is trite, the actors would have done better adlibbing. The idea of a flip universe back in time could have been stunning with the right dialogue and director.
Some of the CGI works well, but again, more could have been done to spark the series up.
And the predictability... really!
So stilted and to be honest there are few I'd any characters that you would care about.
Some acting is truly amateurish with groans and shocks skin to a local theatre production.
Not sure how many episodes I'm going to last.
Without Remorse (2021)
Seriously people..
All the low star reviews here show a bunch of frustrated movie critics vying for attention.
This film is not the book other than using the name.
Ok, get over it.
But as an action film, it works. It's watchable, lots of action, with a testosterone fueled leading man, and is mindless fun.
Enjoy folks!
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
Wow!!
This is the best I've ever seen on Netflix. Stunningly original there isn't a story that didn't hold me captivated. A true 10/10.
A Wrinkle in Time (2018)
Who on earth watched this....
...and gave it 1 or 2 out of 10. I can only assume idiots. There is no way this was a bad film. Ok, not outstanding, but very watchable. You must have a pretty pathetic attention span to walk out of this.
Visually excellent, a good story, perhaps a tad too !not for kids, but a pretty decent film nonetheless.
The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
Oh no ho!
Excellent fun! Enough humour for kids and adults. Anyone not liking this is definitely on the naughty list!
Kurt Russell probably had more fun with this movie than anything else he has ever done.
Going to be a Christmas classic...you'll see.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
All you would ever want from an action Superhero movie
Firstly to those who feel it's 'clever' to give a 1/10, why? Really? In all honesty if you are trying to make a point, let me tell you, you're not. It is stupid and infantile. This is a 10/10 banker. If you can't sit back and just enjoy this film, the humour, the effects, the great action then I could not in all honesty recommended ANYTHING for you.
I am really going to look forward to the next one, at least I hope tbere IS a next one!! This was a thrill a minute, started off at 100 miles an hour and never let up. It has enough in it to keep people of all ages enthralled.
So, again, 1/10? Give me a break!
Divergent (2014)
Far better than expected
Entertaining, yes.
Predictable, yes
Fun, yes
Original, no.
As bad as others make out, no.
Why people give this such low scores is beyond me. There are far worse films out there, and to be honest, this is very watchable, and it certainly held my attention. I love movies and I probably forgive more than most, but really, this is no way as bad as is made out.
I would say if you haven't seen it, but like sci-fi you will be entertained. Acting is pretty good, it has a good crop of well known faces who give the film gravitas where needed.
Godzilla (2014)
Not as bad as some say
Im bemused at those who give this a 1 star. It really isn't as bad as that, in fact it's very watchable with enough action and dialogue to satisfy most movie goers. All films are easy to criticise, and if I put my mind to it I could do the same here. But could I watch this more than once? Yes, and I have. Is it well acted, yes. Is the story good, well it's OK, not mind blowing, but above average. There has been criticism that Godzilla isn't seen enough. I don't quite understand that as I think they got it just right. It stops it suffering from overkill which I am sure would induce criticism in other ways! So , no, it isn't an Oscar winner, but neither is it dross, enjoy it for what it is.
Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia (2006)
Confused.com..!
Reading through the various reviews it is pretty apparent that you either love this film for its grandiose presentation and beautiful sets and costumes, or you rate it as overblown pretentious rubbish. I have a nasty habit of buying films before seeing them, and this was one of them as I had already got Hero (superb) and Flying Daggers (awesome). So I thought this would be from the same mould. But it isn't. Is that good or bad? The film suffers, first off, from false advertising - mind blowing martial arts - oh yeah? Then it is sold on the reputation of Hero and Flying Daggers. Mmm? Perhaps not wise in the hereafter. I am confused because part of me loved it, and part of me (in Western ignorance perhaps) though it had the look and feel of the worst type of Chinese takeaway you could imagine! What action scenes there were did not disappoint. The story, very Shakespearian in style, intrigue and politics. One reviewer likened it to The Lion in Winter. That is a good analogy. On the other hand, I can watch Yun-Fat Chow for ever; he never fails to give a great performance. Li Gong - such beauty and oozes passion and suppressed sexuality, she is really something else. What I would ask reviewers to do, however, is before castigating this film for 'ham' acting as one reviewer stated, is to imagine how our films would look to a standard Chinese audience. Because we are use to a particular cinematic style, it does not mean that the style presented here by Yimou Zhang is 'over the top'. God knows; remember Kurosowa's efforts - the way the characters bowed and ran and gabbled away, and the sheer scope of his movies. Whilst not yet in the same class, Zhang has given a very good account of himself and his actors. But, I am still confused, because whilst watching this film, I swayed between admiration to frustration. I suspect that many others will too. In the main, it is a very good movie, but not perhaps of a style we are comfortable with.
