HBO has given out a straight-to-series order for a single-camera comedy series starring Steve Carell from Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, Variety has learned.
The untitled, half-hour series has been given a 10 episode order. The official logline states that the show is “set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter.”
“HBO has long been a standard bearer of quality TV,” Lawrence said. “Getting to do a show there with Steve Carell is an immediate career highlight for Matt and me. Nothing can go wrong now.”
Lawrence and Tarses wrote the first episode of the series. Both serve as executive producers, with Carell also executive producing in addition to starring. Lawrence executive produces via Doozer Productions along with Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Warner Bros. Television, where both Lawrence and Tarses are under overall deals, is the studio.

Being from the Midwest myself (and even facing tornado warnings in the past few weeks), it seems that the severe storms will be hitting no matter what as the spiritual sequel to Twister touches down in theaters this July. This year has seen some crazy tornadic activity for states like Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. However, Lee Issac Chung’s Twisters is taking them to a whole new level. Universal Pictures has just released the new three-minute trailer for the summer thrill ride, looking to outdo any of the cyclones that Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt encountered in the 1996 original. This time Daisy Edgar-Jones partners up with the “Tornado Wrangler,” played by Glen Powell.
The official synopsis reads, “Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City.

The newfound love towards TV shows that revolve around a specific profession is easily understandable: the viewers find it quite interesting to dive deeper into the world of professionals mastering their jobs and becoming praised by those around them.
There are many crime dramas or police procedurals that captivate the viewers with the complex stories, but the genre that really became one of the most favorite among the viewers is medical drama.
And while there are a lot of them, the most intriguing ones are those with quirky main characters, like The Good Doctor that follows the brilliant autistic surgeon Shaun Murphy. As the show nears its finale, it seems like the right time to find a replacement.
Here are 5 shows we think you’ll love if you are a fan of The Good Doctor in any of its aspects.

Twisters stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) as opposing forces who come together to try to predict, and possibly tame, the immense power of tornadoes. Twisters got some major love during Universal’s presentation at CinemaCon, with the audience getting to see an extended preview of the movie.
The extended preview starts off at a rodeo, which is disrupted by a giant tornado as bulls and horses run wild amidst the chaos. We see scenes of Powell’s character as assembles a group of storm chasers as two tornados combine to form a super tornado. “It’s alright to be scared… fear is the reason you do it,” Powell’s character says. “You don’t face your fears, you ride them.” Our own Chris Bumbray said that the new footage looks huge with tons of stuff happening, but he added that it looks...

Twenty-seven years after the release of the blockbuster disaster film Twister (watch it Here), Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have finally put a follow-up on the fast track to release – but they’re not calling it a sequel. Scheduled to receive a theatrical release on July 19, 2024, Twisters has been described as a “new chapter” in what is about to become a franchise… and during an interview with Vogue, cast member Glen Powell – who can currently be seen on the big screen in the romantic comedy Anyone but You – confirmed that the film tells a standalone story. But even without any connection to the original film, he believes that it’s something that will be able to connect to everyone around the world.
Powell told Vogue (with thanks to Deadline for sharing the text) that Twisters is “definitely not a reboot. We’re not trying to recreate the story from the first one.

Glen Powell is preparing his Broadway debut and is working with producer Ryan Murphy to make it happen.
The Anyone but You star is reuniting with the Scream Queens co-creator, the horror series in which he starred back in 2015, playing the role of Chad Radwell.
“Ryan Murphy and I, we’re actually making a musical together. We don’t really have any plans to be back in the television world together, but we’ll be on Broadway together,” Powell told Vogue.
When asked if the Broadway musical had anything to do with his character in the 2015 series, Powell said, “The Chad Radwell Musical. That’s the funniest idea. Just the Dickie Dollar Scholars. The amount of people that come up to me about Scream Queens is shocking, probably more than anything else I’ve done. Maybe it ages like a fine wine.”

The CEO of Netflix has said that the streaming giant has never “cancelled a successful show” – leaving many subscribers incredulous.
Earlier this week, co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters gave an interview to Bloomberg.

Sarandos answered: “We have never cancelled a successful show. A lot of these shows were well-intended but talk to a very small audience on a very big budget.
“The key to it is you have to be able to talk to a small audience on a small budget and a large audience at a large budget. If you do that well, you can do that forever.”

Apparently, "Grease" is still the word at Paramount+ because an all-new show based on the hit stage musical and its beloved 1978 film adaptation is heading to the streaming service later this year after originally being set up at HBO Max in 2019. But rather than follow the star-crossed students made famous by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, the 10-episode series will focus on the origins of the Pink Ladies, the girl gang made up of Stockard Channing, Dinah Manoff, Jamie Donnelly, and Didi Conn in the first movie (and led by an up-and-coming Michelle Pfeiffer in the underrated sequel).
Titled "Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies," this prequel will be set four years before the original story and follows the first members of the group that challenged the idea of what a woman should be like in the 1950s. And while we've seen images and cast announcements for the upcoming project in the past,...

“Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” will debut on Paramount+ on Thursday, April 6 in the U.S. and Canada, Paramount announced on Monday at the Television Critics Association presentation.
In the teaser trailer for the series, which stars Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Tricia Fukuhara and Ari Notartomas, also dropped on Monday, we see the girls being advised by Jackie Hoffman’s assistant principal, “Be careful with whom you associate. A lady’s reputation is all she has.”
That advice goes unheeded, as the Pink Ladies decide, “Sometimes, you gotta be bad to do good,” before declaring, “Things are about to get wild.”

There’s a change at the top of Skydance Television.
Netflix’s VP of Spectacle and Event Television Matt Thunell, who has been responsible for series including Stranger Things, is replacing Bill Bost.
Thunell becomes President of Skydance Television with Bost leaving to form his own production shingle with an overall deal at the company.
It comes weeks after Skydance Media completed a 400M strategic investment, led by Kkr, which values the company at over 4B.
Bost was in the role for two and a half years, replacing Marcy Ross, who launched the television arm of David Ellison‘s film production and financing company.
Bost’s departure comes after wrapping the seventh and final season of Netflix’s Grace and Frankie – the streamer’s longest running series. He is thought to want to be more closely involved with the creative process.
