Pirates Of The Caribbean 5's co-director is set to take on the Maleficent sequel...
After a couple of years where it seemed to not be going anywhere, Disney now appears to be fast-tracking the sequel to 2014’s Maleficent. The original film told the story of Sleeping Beauty’s infamous villain, played in live action form by Angelina Jolie. It was a huge hit, and there were immediate sequel plans, but most of us had assumed they’d petered out.
Not so.
Joachim Ronning, who co-directed last summer’s Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, is now in talks to take over the director’s chair on Maleficent 2. Robert Stromberg, who helmed the first film, was not included on the press tour for the first film, and more recently has directed The Martian Vr for Fox, and worked on Game Of Thrones visual effects. It's...

Angelina Jolie is in the midst of formulating her return to the movie scene following recent personal troubles.
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the actress-producer-director is mulling over multiple projects, including the long-rumored Maleficent 2. Last we checked in on the fantastical sequel, screenwriter Linda Woolverton merely confirmed its existence – “this very minute, it’s blinking at my computer.” That was almost nine months ago, and though THR alludes to the Maleficent follow-up during its exhaustive interview, there’s no mention of a tangible update.
Beyond the realm of dark fantasy and vengeful fairies, Jolie is reportedly eyeing not one, but two large-scale Universal projects. The first is an adaptation of Simon Sebag Montefiore’s Catherine the Great and Potemkin: The Imperial Love Affair, which chronicles the fiery love affair between the eponymous Russian ruler and Prince Grigory Potemkin. There’s also mention of an espionage thriller based on...

When Molly Duffy and Robbie Edwards, both 3, met in person for the first time at Boston Children’s Hospital in November, it was like they’d been best friends forever.
The tiny tots, who both have light brown hair, sparkling blue eyes and infectious, toothy grins, could pass for sisters. They both love listening to “Wheels on the Bus,” playing house in their miniature toy kitchen sets and spending time outside.
But another commonality unites the toddlers, who are the only known people in the country, and two of 11 in the entire world, diagnosed with an extremely rare disease called...

Few questions feel as stale as the following: Is the Disney Princess feminist? It's become profoundly boring to scavenge for an answer, so common is this refrain that arises each holiday season since Peggy Orenstein’s barnstorm of an essay. It will no doubt be a talking point upon the release of Moana later this year. The "Disney Princess" has congealed into a homogenous, lumpen unit of capitalist excess, so much that each character’s particular idiosyncrasies often become obscured in such discussions.Belle, the heroine of Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale’s Beauty and the Beast (1991), is a headstrong bibliophile with a peripatetic mind; she spends the beginning of the film longing to be elsewhere. “There must be more than this provincial life,” she screams in the film’s opening number, which economically introduces us to the townspeople who fawn over her. Belle, voiced by Paige O’Hara, occupies...

Hell is looking to be a popular location for several upcoming projects.
First up, "The Hallow" director Corin Hardy has closed a deal to direct the Mike Finch-scripted action feature "Hell Bent" for Paramount Pictures. Casting will shortly begin while the script gets a polish, while Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing.
Dubbed 'The Dirty Dozen Goes To Hell,' the story follows a group of mercenaries imprisoned in a Brazilian jail who are murdered and led into the depths of hell by a priest who wishes to use their skills to kill Satan.
Next up, Alcon Entertainment has optioned Christian minister Howard Storm's novel "My Descent Into Death," a supernatural thriller dramatizing his personal account of his near death experience. Jinder Ho ("There") will write the film adaptation, quite different from other accounts as his is a journey through Hell.
Finally comes word that "Another Earth" director Mike Cahill is attached to helm "Doctors" for 20th Century Fox. David Goyer is producing the adaptation of the Dash Shaw graphic novel which Ben Jacoby will script.
Though not dealing directly with hell, "Doctors" will follow a group of doctors who can go into a dead person's consciousness in the form of a memory and temporarily bring them back to life. When a woman hires the doctor to bring back her mother, the act poses an unintended question: What happens when the dead don't want to return?

It seems that Maleficent's backstory is not completely finished, as Disney has set its sights on a sequel to 2014's live-action movie.
According to The Wrap, Disney wants Angelina Jolie back as the titular character, although no deal has been done yet.
Likewise, the writer behind last year's retelling Linda Woolverton has also been approached about making the follow-up's screenplay.
Producer Joe Roth is also slated to return, while Robert Stromberg is not set to direct this time round.
There's no word on whether Elle Fanning would be back in the role of Aurora either.
Maleficent was a box office hit for Disney, after grossing $760 million worldwide. Watch a trailer below:...

I doubt anyone is surprised to hear Disney is moving forward with a sequel to the Angelina Jolie starrer Maleficent, which may have looked like a bit of a risk before its May 2014 release as it carried a budget of $180 million, but after $758+ million worldwide it became quite clear Disney's live action fairy tales were gold mines. Alice in Wonderland brought in $1+ billion in 2010 and Cinderella tallied $532+ million earlier this year on only a $95 million budget. In all likelihood I would expect Maleficent 2 to come in under that original $180 million price tag, though I bet Jolie doesn't come cheap and in order to make a Maleficent sequel you sorta want the star of the original film... rightc Linda Woolverton, who penned the original along with Alice in Wonderland as well as the upcoming Alice Through the Looking Glass, will write the sequel with the intention of keeping Jolie in the loop,...
