Ricky Gervais does not hold back when he makes jokes, and the reason why he has been chosen to host the Golden Globe five times is because he might say something wildly offensive and controversial that would steal everyone’s attention. How do you say goodbye to one of the best shows on the air?
Fans of Netflix's After Life will be forced to say goodbye on January 14 when the final season launches.
The streamer has unveiled our biggest look yet at the final episodes, and it looks like Tony (Ricky Gervais) has a new outlook on life.
After spending the time following his wife's death thinking that not caring was a superpower, the trailer teases him making good decisions.
We get to see Tony on a very different mission, finding very specific places to scatter his late father's ashes.
One of those places is a bar, and well, that goes about as well as you can expect when he's caught.
Set in the small fictitious town of Tambury, the show follows Tony, a writer for the local newspaper whose life is upended after his wife dies from cancer.

As September comes to a close and October brings in autumnal vibes, the country (and the world for that matter) is focusing on two things: the forthcoming November election and the end of the world. Luckily, in this early edition of this week’s specialty preview, we have something that is relevant to both!
After making its world premiere at Sundance, Julie Taymor’s The Glorias is ready to disrupt the system. Ld Entertainment and Roadside Attractions will debut the civic-minded and socially aware film on Amazon Prime Video starting today — and it couldn’t be a more perfect time.
Ahead of the November election, The Glorias is based on feminist icon Gloria Steinem’s book Life on the Road. Co-written by Taymor and Sarah Ruhl the nontraditional biopic paints a portrait of one of the inspirational figures of modern history. Steinem became a prominent figure that defined era and a generation.

Gloria Steinem biopic “The Glorias” is shifting from a theatrical release to digital and will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in the United States and Canada starting September 30, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.

“The Glorias” director Julie Taymor knew Gloria Steinem long before she ever read Steinem’s memoir “Life on the Road” or decided to adapt the feminist and icon’s life story into a film. Or, at least she thought she did.
“I’ve known her. I knew her before I read the book. I thought I knew her. I didn’t,” Taymor told TheWrap at the Sundance Film Festival. “When I read the book and learned about her early life, I thought, ‘Oh my God, people must see this.’ It’s entertaining. It actually explains how someone can become the activist and the inspiration that she is.”

It’s official. Netflix has ordered six half-hour episodes of After Life, a new dark comedy series from Ricky Gervais.
Created, executive produced, directed by and starring Gervais, After Life centers on Tony (Gervais) who had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa suddenly dies, Tony changes. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Super Power — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.
Charlie Hanson (Extras) also executive produces.
Gervais has a long history with Netflix. The Internet TV network bought his stand-up show Humanity, which premiered in March, and bought the rights to his next stand-up show. Netflix also acquired U.S.

Netflix isn’t messing around with the 2017 Emmys. First, the streaming network released a flood of high-profile contenders in May — right before eligibility closed — in order to boost awareness. This story about Ricky Gervais first appeared in the Miniseries/Movies issue of TheWrap Emmy magazine. When the original British version of the mock documentary “The Office” ended in 2003, creator and star Ricky Gervais didn’t plan to ever bring back his character of David Brent, the office manager with a craving for fame and a knack for being humiliated. But after an “Office” anniversary celebration and a charity gig, Gervais realized that the time might be right for a sad-sack character who so desperately wanted to be famous — hence “David Brent: Life on the Road,” a TV movie in which.

Ricky Gervais believes “there’s a little David Brent in all of us.”
The creator of the beloved British sitcom The Office sees need for love, popularity and validation all over the world — but 15 years after Brent made his debut on The Office, even Gervais himself is surprised to see that facet of his cringe-inducing paper salesman’s personality playing out not just in the real world, but to reaches as high as the White House.

Screen considers potential runners and riders.
The BBC is likely to announce its new head of film within the next two weeks, according to sources close to the process.
Scroll down for potential candidates and the original job spec
That timetable should come as a relief to those under consideration for the role and to wider industry who will want to begin building or growing their relationship with the new boss.
The job, which is considered one of the UK’s most prestigious posts, became vacant in autumn 2016 following the departure of long-time chief Christine Langan. BBC Films veteran Joe Oppenheimer has been serving as acting head of film since then.
The incoming head of film is expected to have an annual war chest of around £12m for production, cementing BBC Films’ position as one the three mainstays of public funding in the UK along with the BFI and Film4.

There are a lot of similarities between David Brent, Ricky Gervais’ bumbling, overcompensating dolt boss at the center of the original BBC Two mockumentary “The Office,” and “David Brent: Life on the Road,” the character’s first feature-length spin-off. They both chase reformed glory well past their prime, and they both often feel more uncomfortably sad than thornily hilarious these days. But David Brent and ‘David Brent’ are both well aware of their struggles, whether they admit them openly or not, and rather than wallow or give up, they persist against their better judgments.

With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
Crimson Peak (Guillermo del Toro)
Crimson Peak works as many things: a melodramatic romance; both the recreation of a period and a revival of the way movies have made us perceive it; a genre-jumping comedy; and a critique of capitalistic excess. It does these things earnestly and without compromise, and it’s far braver — far more admirable — for having done so. What Guillermo del Toro’s new film doesn...

The only part of the filmmaking process that Ricky Gervais dreads is the promotional tour.
“I don’t think it’s good for anyone,” he recently told IndieWire. “We’re begging you to be nice about the movie ’cause every little [bit of promotion] helps, but it’s nothing about the film anymore.”
Fortunately, working with Netflix (which he has done for the past few years) has given Gervais a break from “those five-day, 10-hour junkets in the hotel, where every journalist gets five minutes and wants to kill themselves afterward. Do you know what I mean?”
Gervais says “do you know what I mean?” a lot when you talk to him. He wants to be sure he’s communicating his points clearly. Which is interesting, given that what matters the most to him these days is making sure that whatever he does, he has complete control over it. “That’s all I care about,...

After fifteen years, Ricky Gervais is reprising his role as David Brent, the regional manager of a paper company in the U.K. in the original version of The Office. In the follow-up film David Brent: Life on the Road, which premieres on Netflix Friday, the insufferable boss is now a sales rep for a tampon company with an insatiable craving to earn back the 15 minutes of fame he was afforded when he was the star of a docusoap about his paper company. Brent will be very much the same character: a self involved, delusional narcissist clinging to his glory

Thirteen years have passed since David Brent graced small screens, and now The Office‘s resident king of cringe is back with a musical odyssey: Life on the Road.
Ricky Gervais, who created and embodies the character, chatted with People about stepping back into Brent’s shows — though he’s the first to admit that, for diehard fans, the bumbling middle manager “never really went away.”
Gervais, 55, says the semi-hero of the 2001–03 Britcom has been very much part of his day-to-day both as he’s developed international TV adaptations and through his social media following. “When I got on Twitter,...

British screenwriter, director and former actress, Amma Asante’s career as a filmmaker is going from strength to strength particularly with her last film, A United Kingdom. The film told the tale of the 1940’s interracial relationship between the Prince Seretse Khama (David Oyelowo) of Botswana and a white woman (Rosamund Pike) from London and earned her critical acclaim.

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Bomb, bomb bomb bomb, Boooooomb! Things just kept getting worse and worse at the box office as this past weekend saw more new releases not meeting up to their potential. The horribly-reviewed horror movie Rings (Paramount) ended up around where I predicted with $13 million, taking second place to M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. The sci-fi romance The Space Between Us (Stx Entertainment) didn’t make much of a mark, opening in ninth place with just $3.8 million with about $1,300 per theater. Robert De Niro’s The Comedian (Sony Classics) tanked worse than many recent movies, making less than a million in 848 theaters or about $1,000 per theater. By comparison, the doc I Am Not Your Negro made about 78% of that amount in 800 less theaters.

February means Valentine's Day, and whether you're Netflix-and-chill-ing (are we still saying that?) or staving off feelings of crushing loneliness, streaming is a must. This month, you can either celebrate the lovelorn holiday with Mindy Kaling's ode to romcoms and a sensual evening with Michael Bolton, or fully embrace your singlehood with the cynical bleakness of an indie flick with the perfect title for the Trump era. And who doesn't love a good ol' chipper cannibalism comedy, regardless of his or her relationship status? Here's your go-to streaming guide for the next month.

We should also note that, for those looking to repertory options, Josef von Sternberg’s newly restored final film Anatahan will start rolling out this week.

Remember Ricky Gervais' character from the original U.K. version of The Office, David Brent? Well, Gervais has brought him back in a hilarious-looking new comedy film for Netflix called David Brent: Life on the Road! It shows us what former Wernham-Hogg manager David is doing with his life these days.
The film follows "a documentary crew catching up with David Brent twelve years on from the mockumentary ‘The Office’. Brent is now a traveling salesman, chasing his dream of rock stardom by self-financing a UK tour with his band, ‘Foregone Conclusion’."
The movie looks so freakin' funny, and there's no doubt that fans of Gervais' The Office are going to love what they see. It has all the wonderful and crazy uncomfortable humor that you'd expect from the character.
David Brent: Life on the Road hits Netflix February 10.

Do you enjoy watching as failed businessman with dubious entertainment skills blithely sputters nonsensical absurdities and mirthfully belches offensive comments at everyone within earshot, all without realizing that he’s not the most likable person in the room? If not, you should probably avoid the news over the next few years. And one way to do that is to watch Ricky Gervais’ new mockumentary David Brent: Life On The Road, which will begin awkwardly streaming on Netflix starting February 10.
The feature-length film follows the main character from his break-out BBC Two sitcom The Office, as he tours the U.K. with his rock/rap band Foregone Conclusion. It will definitely be somewhat uncomfortable, and some people will almost certainly be hurt (he does have a high-powered T-shirt rifle), but you’ll be able to soothe yourself with the knowledge that none of it is really happening.
