Bruce Dickinson performed a two-night stand at the iconic Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood, California, marking his first solo non-spoken-word concerts in 22 years.
The last-minute “secret” gigs took place Friday (April 12th) and Saturday (April 13th) and served as a warmup for Dickinson’s international tour supporting his new album The Mandrake Project. A third California warmup gig is also slated for Monday night (April 15th) at The Observatory in Santa Ana.

The further you look back on history, the more you realize that the separation of fact and fiction is a relatively recent phenomenon. For the longest time, there wasn’t much of a difference between storytellers and historians (just look at how many people still think the Trojan War was a real event), and while this skewed perception of reality can have devastating consequences in the modern interconnected world, I think there’s some wisdom to be found in extracting a dose of truth from obvious hoaxes.
When it comes to media, one of the most enduring examples of this is Found Footage cinema, a whole genre that relies on our willingness to accept that what we see on-screen is real even if we don’t actually believe in ghosts, demons and witches. This decidedly modern form of filmmaking may have been popularized in the digital age, but the seeds...

There’s a lot to watch on Prime Video in October and, as you may have guessed, there’s spooky stuff galore in amongst Prime’s usual rotation of extensive library content.
In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Then there’s Make Me Scream, a Halloween special that challenges celebrities to “a gruesome game of terror.” Renfield will also be streaming on the service for anyone who’s been dying (muahahaha!) to catch the Nic Cage Dracula film.
Outside of Prime Video’s more creepy fare, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will debut, Upload will be back for a third season, and new film Awareness should scratch your sci-fi itch. Meanwhile, for Frasier heads – those who consider themselves utterly Frasier-pilled – all eleven seasons of the Cheers spinoff show will be streaming at the touch of a button.

Netflix has released its weekly global top 10 chart for the week of June 5, showing how movies and television series have been doing on the streamer. Jennifer Lopez‘s “The Mother” has been dominating the English language film chart for weeks, and it finally dropped out of the top spot, but not before taking sixth place in the all-time movie chart. Read on for this week’s analysis.
Library films were the name of the game this week as “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve‘s 2013 thriller “Prisoners” and Mark Wahlberg‘s “Shooter” from 2007 were the top two movies in the English language film chart with 13.9 million and 12.8 million hours viewed, respectively. Taylor Lautner said his perspective on the Twilight franchise and the fame he received from the films has changed over time.
During a recent interview on The Happy Hour on Today Show Radio, the actor said that while now he only has “fond memories” of his experiences while filming the movies, he also thinks that he “needed the space.”
Lautner was a teenager when the first film debuted in 2008. The franchise, based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novels, went on to spawn a total of five films, with the last one, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, premiering in 2012. Lautner starred as Jacob Black, a werewolf competing with vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) for Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart) heart.
The Twilight Saga, which quickly became a worldwide phenomenon and grossed more than $3 billion at the box office, launched the films’ leads into stardom, something that Lautner said took time to process.

For many teens coming of age in the late 2000s, the Twilight franchise was their most formative film experience. The five-part film saga made superstars out of performers like Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner. The latter played Jacob Black, a shapeshifter who has an intense affection for Bella Swan. Lautner quickly became a sex symbol, and one of the most vibrant performers of the late 2000s. While Lautner might have seemed at ease in front of the cameras, in truth, he recently revealed was experiencing intense body dysmorphia.

Taylor Lautner is opening up about the impact the fan rivalry between his Twilight character and Robert Pattinson’s had on him.
During Thursday’s episode of The Toast podcast, Lautner appeared on the segment with his wife, Tay Lautner. When asked if the discourse that fans caused between his character, Jacob Black, and Pattinson’s character, Edward Cullen, got to him, he said, “I feel like I’d be lying if I said, ‘No.’”
When the first film based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novels came out in 2008, madness quickly erupted among a dedicated fandom as they chose sides with who they believed was the best fit to be the love interest of Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan.
“I was so young, like I was 16 when Twilight came out, 17 for New Moon and Eclipse. I finished the franchise by the time I was 19,” the Abduction star said. “I was so young and yeah,...

With its list of new releases for June 2022, HBO Max is joining in what should be a TV summer to remember.
Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.
Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

Castle Falls marks Dolph Lundgren’s first film as a director since he shot Icarus in 2010. It’s also his fifth teaming with co-star Scott Adkins. Toss in a plot that sounds slightly reminiscent of Walter Hill’s underrated 1992 film Trespass and you have a film with a lot of potential. The question is, can it live up to them?
Mike Wade is down on his luck. His career as a fighter is over, he can’t even make the cut for a local Mma event and he’s been evicted from his apartment. Now he’s living in his truck and working as a labourer on the demolition of Castle Heights Hospital. And then his luck turns around, he finds several bags full of money hidden in the abandoned building.

It’s blockbuster season and Amazon Prime is celebrating by bringing a major action film to its stream.
That’s right, Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2021 is highlighted by none other than The Tomorrow War on July 2. The year is 2051 and mankind is locked in a vicious war against an alien species. Our only hope is to go back in time and find…Chris Pratt. Ok, perhaps that’s a little reductive of the film’s plot. Future humanity also comes back to bring Sam Richardson to the future.
In terms of originals, there isn’t much else to speak of on Amazon Prime this month. The only other major release is The Pursuit of Love on July 30. This BBC series is directed by Emily Mortimer and takes place during the WWII era and follows two cousins as they navigate their lives. Lily James and Andrew Scott star.

Growing up action movies were, for me, second only to horror flicks as my go to genre. I used to scour the pages of Impact for news on the latest films and then pre-order the VHS at my local video shop – because yes, back in the day you could actually pre-order a video rental and I Always had to be first to rent my most-anticipated flicks! I mention this only because it was back in that era that the action movie star was king. Starting out with the likes of Stallone and Schwarzenegger, the VHS era gave birth to a myriad of action movie superstars: guys like Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Jeff Speakman, Jeff Wincott and the queen of action films Cynthia Rothrock… all of whom carved out careers in what were – for the most part – direct to video films.

Here's everything coming to Amazon Prime instant video in March 2020!
For its new releases in March 2020, Amazon Prime is enlisting help from some horror friends.
Yes, horror is the name of the game this month with Night of the Living Dead (albeit the 2007 version), The Crazies, and The Descent all arriving on March 1. And if that weren't enough, Pet Sematary comes a little later on on May 19. Look at Church the cat in that thumbnail image. How could you not want to watch his spooky adventures?
The Amazon original offerings are typically sparse for March 2020 but still pack some punch. Italian import ZeroZeroZero stars Gabriel Byrne and arrives on May 6. Then British import Agatha Christie's The Pale Horse comes a little later on March 13.
For what it's worth, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot debuts on March 13 so it's not all horror and all European TV all the time.

We’ve already touched base on the Netflix titles heading our way next month, but what about Amazon Prime?
Though the former is widely considered to be the undisputed heavyweight of the online streaming world, it didn’t take long for Prime to become a tantalizing prospect, no thanks to kick-ass original series like The Expanse, The Boys and The Man in the High Castle.
The real issue for the end consumer is juggling all those subscriptions, particularly now that Disney+ is live across North America (March 24th for those in the UK). Be that as it may, as February nears its end, Amazon has detailed all of the content bound for Prime in March 2020.
Among the new additions are a host of big-name horror films, including Neil Marshall’s The Descent and its creepy sequel. Best of all? Pet Sematary, the reimagining of Stephen King’s literary developed by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer.

We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in March 2020.
March sees the beginning of one of TV's more interesting experiment in 2020. Hulu's new releases for March 2020 are highlighted by the launch of the torturously-named "FX on Hulu" in which certain FX shows will premiere exclusively on Hulu.
Yes, when Disney set out up the entertainment industry, it gained more brands than it knew what to do with. And that's how you get stuff like FX on Hulu. The streaming/cable hybrid begins in earnest in March with two series, Alex Garland's sci-fi Devs and the weird Lil Dickey comedy Dave. More FX on Hulu is set to arrive in April as well.

Roger Corman is alive and well and up to his old tricks.
At 93, the prodigiously prolific director, producer and mini-major mogul has been in the business long enough to receive scores of lifetime achievement awards — he’ll be getting another one this week in Houston, courtesy of the Houston Film Critics Society — and solidify his status as equal parts living legend and eminence grise.
He has more than 400 films to his credit, including the no-budget B-movies, darkly comical cult-faves and stylishly gothic Edgar Allen Poe adaptations he made in the 1950s and ‘60s, and the dozens of films he produced for American-International and his own companies, New World and Concorde Pictures, that provided major career boosts for such up-and-comers as Martin Scorsese, Francis Coppola, Ron Howard, Peter Bogdanovich, James Cameron, Jonathan Demme, Gale Anne Hurd and on and on and on.

"I thought it was a nightmare, but..." Shout Factory has debuted an official trailer for a sci-fi action film titled Abduction, which is one of the first team-ups between the legendary Roger Corman and the sort-of-legendary Scott Adkins. This "pulse-pounding thriller pits two strangers against a nefarious alien force, with the future of mankind hanging in the balance." Sounds like the perfect film to pick up in the bargain bin for $0.10. Actor star Scott Adkins plays Quinn, who steps out of a park fountain in Vietnam with no recollection of who he is or where he came from. As he wanders through the city, piecing together clues to his past, he is relentlessly pursued by mysteriously dangerous figures. Co-starring Andy On, Truong Ngoc Anh, Lily Ji, Paul W. He, and Daniel Whyte. Looks pretty terrible, but that shouldn't surprise anyone. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Ernie Barbarash's Abduction,...

Taylor Lautner, much like previous teen idol Zac Efron, is a young male actor who became a star after appearing in a string of films marketed towards teens, specifically the Twilight franchise. However, and much like Efron, Lautner’s impenetrable stardom eventually ended with his franchise’s conclusion. Therefore, he then began that awkward transitional period as he tried to escape from the teen idol status that he had been labeled with in order to prove his legitimacy as an actor outside of the Twilight saga. His short lived stints with action (i.e. Abduction, Tracers) and comedy (i.e. Grown Ups 2, The Ridiculous 6) certainly didn’t help. However, Lautner’s latest turn in director Soham Mehta’s debut film, Run the Tide, finally showcases him as a dramatic talent to be reckoned with.

In the years since the Twilight franchise made them megastars, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have worked with a remarkable number of world-class directors: Olivier Assayas, Kelly Reichardt, Woody Allen, Ang Lee, David Cronenberg, Werner Herzog, James Gray. The werewolf leg of that love triangle, however, does not appear to be in similarly prestigious demand. Taylor Lautner has headlined a couple of forgettable thrillers (major points if you could recall even the titles Abduction and Tracers), and been part of the ensemble in a couple of Adam Sandler comedies, but nothing on his post-Twilight résumé is even halfway decent, much less impressive. The exceedingly earnest indie drama Run The Tide seems to be Lautner’s stab at respectability, but he’s chosen poorly—this is bargain-basement schmaltz, too blandly folksy even for Sundance. Sheer toothiness can’t elevate drab material.

For several years now, two of the most financially successful film franchises have been the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Michael Bay’s Transformers series. Those films have cumulatively earned $10.2 billion and $3.8 billion, respectively. So one can’t really blame the folks over at Mattel and Dolphin Entertainment for hoping to combine the superhero storytelling of the former with the built-in appeal of a long-running toy line. Unfortunately, Max Steel reveals just how ill-conceived this approach is in telling an effective story.
Based on the Mattel toys (as well as the 2000 and 2013 animated series they inspired), the film stars Ben Winchell as Max McGrath, a teenage boy who soon begins experiencing dangerous energy bursts when he and his mother (Maria Bello) move back to his hometown, where tragedy occurred years earlier. Before long, the truth begins to unravel, and Max encounters a bizarre creature named Steel (voiced by Silicon Valley‘s...

“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. This monthly column focuses on the film industry’s willingness to capitalize on this truth, releasing one-sheets to serve as not representations of what audiences are to expect, but as propaganda to fill seats. Oftentimes they fail miserably.
There’s a good mix of independent originals and blockbuster remakes/sequels this month to satisfy young and old. How they’re all going to fend for screens I’m not sure—Finding Dory may finally have to bid us adieu until its home video release in October. So if you haven’t seen it or Star Trek Beyond, go quick. Suicide Squad (August 5) is going to be taking over very soon and I don’t think Batman v Superman‘s relative “failure” will affect its own longevity.

I'm one of those "glass half-full "critics when it comes to Taylor Lautner. Film after film I hope he'll pull a Sally Field, who went from The Flying Nun and Gidget to Sybil and Norma Rae. Would Abduction or Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 reveal the young man's inner Laurence Olivier? No, sadly. The lumbering hunk remains just a lumbering hunk in those two. Prize-winning pecs and abs plus a cute smile were what the glamor boy's fans had to settle for.
"Well, maybe Tracers will be his Wuthering Heights," I was murmuring as I scooted onto the subway last night, heading for a midtown screening room. I should have known better. I should have checked out the director's CV before hoping for the best.
The Barcelona-born Daniel Benmayor had previously helmed a Schweppes commercial with Hugh Laurie and two deodorant ads, which would make you think he could avoid creating malodorous art.

It’s hard to maintain a relationship in Tinseltown and Taylor Lautner has split up with his girlfriend of more than a year Marie Avgeropoulos. According to reports, the “Twilight Saga: New Moon” hunk actually called time on the romance a few months back, though he didn’t announce the breakup until now.
Taylor and Marie initially hooked up while filming “Tracers” together, and the film will debut in theaters on March 20th.
Lautner has a history of dating his costars, with Taylor Swift (“Valentine’s Day”) and Lily Collins (“Abduction”) among his ex-girlfriends.

When I was looking at the list of article ideas Brad compiles for us to choose from to write about, I originally glossed this one over. I'd never heard of Tracers, and he listed Taylor Kitsch as the one starring in it, and that did nothing for me. But I figured why not give it a click and see what it isc So, I did. First thing I noticed was Taylor Kitsch was nowhere to be found, instead it was Twilight's Taylor Lautner that was the star of the movie. Some may see Brad's mistake as just a misprint, which it pretty much is, but I thought it represented something a little more. The differences between Taylor Kitsch and Taylor Lautner are minimal, their physicality aside. They are both bland actors being forced on us to like. They also make me think "Who really caresc" I certainly do not. Is...
