Realism in gaming has reached a whole new level, as video game deaths aren’t just walking into a small chasm and popping up from the checkpoint again, unharmed. From Call of Duty to Mortal Kombat death isn’t pretty in there. It can be gut-wrenching and may lead anyone to say, ‘That was cruel’.
But that’s what makes those games worthwhile, though not for children under a certain age. Some of the kills may even cause players to induce mercy, even though they have developed hatred towards a character. Such are some gruesome video game deaths as found on X/Twitter via user NikTekofficial, listed below.

According to reliable Resident Evil and Silent Hill leaker Dusk Golem, also known as AesthethicGamer, a remake of Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0 is in development, while the long-awaited Resident Evil 9 is likely delayed by up to one year.
These two new remakes would follow suit after Capcom’s extremely strong current run, which includes both newer mainline titles as well as remakes of older, beloved games.
Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica Are Reportedly Getting Remakes
Resident Evil 4 was Capcom’s latest and most acclaimed remake.
The leak that remakes of Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0 are in development isn’t that surprising to hear, given that Capcom has previously shared that multiple new Resident Evil games are in development, which includes both remakes and new mainline installments.

Capcom has undoubtedly had major critical and commercial success with its Resident Evil (Re) franchise over the past decade. So, it’s no surprise that the developers have continued to double down on the survival horror franchise and give us remakes after remakes. Various reports suggest that Capcom is already working hard on Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica remakes.
While this has caused massive hype among fans of the franchise, many of them are equally disappointed and frustrated with Capcom. For years, fans have been hoping to get a remake of the original Resident Evil game. Few reports suggested that the developers were actually working on the project. However, prominent leaker Dusk Golem says the alleged Resident Evil 1 remake isn’t going to see the light of the day anytime soon.

Following its Resident Evil 4 remake, Capcom is reportedly in the process of updating two spin-offs – Resident Evil Zero and Code: Veronica.
Capcom took something of a gamble when it remade Resident Evil 4 last year, but it undoubtedly paid off – the current-gen version providing a sensitive update of the ground-breaking 2005 original.
According to recent reports, Capcom is now turning its attention to a pair of Resident Evil spin-offs: 2000’s Resident Evil – Code: Veronica and 2002’s Resident Evil Zero. Both were third-person survival horror games, much like the mainline franchise, but came with their own narrative twists on the formula. Resident Evil Zero’s story switched between two protagonists – cop Rebecca Chambers and convict Billy Coen – and featured a horde of mutant killer leeches.
Code: Veronica was set on a prison island and followed the investigations of brother-sister S.T.A.R.S agents. Both spin-offs were big successes in their day, and both...

Nowadays, as Xbox continues to fumble and bumble its way through the industry like a heavy drinker on Friday night, people have begun retrospecting on the brand’s glorious past. There was, after all, a time when it was quite ahead of its competitors.
Among the many who look back to the past, trying to figure out what went wrong, some have started to suggest that the organization may never have been sober to begin with, considering its history with Rockstar and other massive studios.

The worst characters in gaming are typically the ones these protagonists are up against. However, amid the shortage of single-player campaigns, thanks to the live service epidemic, protagonists are becoming rare in video games.
But that’s not always the case. Sometimes, protagonists can be just as annoying. The sad part is players cannot get rid of them if they like the video game they are playing. Such a dilemma.
Why Do Antagonists Have All the Hate When These ‘Pros’ Are There? Here Are the Most Hated Protagonists of Gaming
Some characters will stick with the players like glue, and while the players may want to bury them in the ground, it’s not really possible. Let’s say they are just hanging by the mercy of the video game, as players won’t be allowed to proceed further without them. We picked five of such characters whom gamers might find very lovable.

Given how great 2023 was for game releases, there are undoubtedly some games that you missed. There are few sub-genres in gaming as satisfying, thrilling, and gruesome as zombie games. The adrenaline-inducing experience of killing hordes of enemies is something that can make a title feel so good, that TV shows adapt to the source material.
The Last of Us, for instance, is one of those games that combines the thrill of the undead with a heartwarming story. Similarly, many zombie games have taken the industry by storm, and here are 8 of the best games that should be on your list if you’re someone who can’t wait to shoot, dodge, and shed a tear against the undead.
8. Dead Rising 2 You can even attach chainsaws to motorcycle handles. Just saying.
While the franchise itself is great, Dead Rising 2 has one of the goofiest mechanics in a zombie game, while a story that has a clock ticking makes things equally tense. Set in a shopping mall...

If we talk about big gaming releases in 2023, then the first names that come to mind are Diablo IV, Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy XVI, Resident Evil 4, and many more. But the two names that really stand out above all are Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3.
However, to avoid a collision with a title like Starfield, Larian Studios had to take a precautionary measure. And the result is in front of everyone. Baldur’s Gate 3 became the Game of the Year in 2023.

Occasionally, there are very creative individuals who make a variation of a core game with new mechanics that have a lot of potential. This is the case of Star Wars Deathtroopers, a game developed with a resemblance to Resident Evil 4 with the idea of making players survive a zombie outburst inside the Death Star.

Canadian actor-brothers Shamier Anderson (John Wick 4) and Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk) had their stars unveiled on Scarborough’s Walk of Fame. The men were raised in the marginalized Toronto community by a single mother who emigrated to Canada from Jamaica.
“It’s really humbling and flattering to receive something like this in my hometown, at a mall where I grew up, where I shopped, it’s pretty cool,” Anderson told The Hollywood Reporter.
The local Walk of Fame honor for the fast-rising Hollywood stars is more than an exercise in collective positive thinking for an inner-city neighborhood that earlier brought to the world celebrities like Mike Myers, Jim Carrey and The Weeknd.
The brothers are at work via their Bay Mills Studios production banner — named after the community housing project they grew up in Scarborough — on a landmark TV drama set in the inner-city community that is their home away from Hollywood.

The sequel to 2017’s massively popular Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was just as much of a sensation when it released last year, surpassing 10 million copies sold within 3 days of launch.
Recent Zelda games have not only found loads of commercial success in the Switch generation, but the transformative Botw has also influenced several games, including FromSoftware’s 2022 blockbuster, Elden Ring. This project appears to be the next Gears of War game, as some Xbox job listings by Microsoft suggest. The speculations arise from the latest conversation with insider Jeff Grubb on Kinda Funny Xcast.
The first three games in the series revolve around the protagonist, Marcus Fenix, while the next main title follows the story of his son, James Dominic Fenix, and then his friend, Kait Diaz. What’s the saying? Oh yeah… third times the charm and the Resident Evil series is no exception. For our third outing we’re here to explore the aftermath of the apocalypse with Resident Evil: Extinction (watch it Here). This one is pretty divisive with the consensus being some people, like myself, loved this film while others felt this was the beginning of the downward slope of sequels of the franchise. Hear me out as to why I sing its praises. For one, it tells a cohesive story and gives us a side of Alice that we’ve been dying to see. We get more new characters that bring gravitas to the story as well as a fully fleshed out villain and it’s a lot of fun. Plus, its pays homage to The Road Warrior in the best way. Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth launched recently, and fans are thoroughly enjoying the new take on an age-old classic. The best part about this new game is that it did not just upgrade the visuals of the original game; it even gave people involved in the original title a chance to tell this story in a different manner.
Sometimes, technical limitations or time constraints introduce some limitations for the developers. Due to this, they are not able to shape their stories the way they had imagined. If the lead writer of the original Final Fantasy 7 is to be believed, one aspect of the game was misinterpreted by the fans of that title. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has finally launched, that too with glowing reviews. However, to the dismay of the community, Capcom has sneakily included 21 microtransactions that allow buyers to obtain rare currency and gameplay features.
Thanks to this, player reception has been a storm of negativity, but the story’s developed in an interesting way since. It turns out the microtransactions don’t lock anything out, and every item for sale can be obtained via just playing the game. This revelation has allowed many to look past the purchasable items and see the action-rpg for what it is: a potential Game of the Year winner.

This revelation has allowed many to look past the purchasable items and see the action-rpg for what it is: a potential Game of the Year winner.
Microtransactions Are Bad, But Blown Out Of Proportion

The microtransactions, mostly single-use consumables, offer gameplay advantages like unlocking new fast-travel locations, altering character appearances, and reviving fallen characters mid-combat.

Survival horror games have finally made a comeback in a huge manner. First was The Callisto Protocol, which launched in 2022 to mixed reviews. It was followed by the Dead Space remake, which launched to critical acclaim. Then fans got a game called Resident Evil 4 Remake, and finally, Alan Wake 2 was launched by Remedy Entertainment.
Most of these games were incredibly successful; they were no doubt serving a market that had been overlooked for a while. The above-mentioned games also gave the fans of survival horror games hope that they can now see more such games released in the near future. But some of these games also took a bunch of inspiration from games that were before them, like Alan Wake 2, which was heavily inspired by a classic horror franchise.

Released in 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the original Dragon’s Dogma was an action roleplaying game tailored to a very specific audience. Brutally difficult, the gameplay centered on open-world exploration with a survivalist touch, wherein players and their Npc (non-player character) companions must trek through a “persistent” world that — at the time — felt organic as shifting day-and-night cycles and changing weather conditions imbued its somewhat bland fantasy world with a sense of life. Heavy on customization options and a general “fend for yourself” attitude toward the player, it merged many...

Alone in the Dark is an extremely important franchise within the sub-genre of survival horror. The first game in the series is considered by many to be the first true survival horror video game ever released. Thus, without this franchise, other iconic survival horror titles like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alan Wake may never have come to pass.
This is one reason that this reimagining of the original Alone in the Dark was my most anticipated 2024 release, the other reason is because survival horror remakes have been knocking it out of the park lately. Last year alone saw Capcom expertly remaster the iconic Resident Evil 4, after the year opened with EA releasing a masterful remake of the original Dead Space.
All of this combined with the star power of David Harbour and Jodie Comer in the lead roles meant that Pieces Interactive’s 2024 reimagining of Alone in the Dark...

Alan Wake 2 is an incredibly good-looking game. Anyone who doubts this statement can just watch any clip of this game, and they will know. And there’s no surprise here either; developer Remedy Entertainment has made it their thing to bring some very good-looking games to their fans. This started with Control, a game that launched back in 2019.
This continued with their recent title, Alan Wake 2, a game that looks and plays incredibly well. As the name suggests, it is the continuation of a years-old game, unsurprisingly called Alan Wake. While the sequel was much awaited and looked incredible, there were a lot of fans who could not play it due to its high PC spec requirements, but it appears the developers have decided to change that with their latest patch.

Alan Wake 2 launched for a new generation of consoles and PC back in 2023. This new survival horror game featured the same excellent storytelling that developer Remedy is known for. To add to it, they combined it with some new exciting gameplay mechanics; it even featured a parallel story that allowed players to control more than one character.
Remedy did not leave any stone unturned to make sure this game was a success. To top it all up, Alan Wake 2 is one of the best-looking games that have launched in recent times. Its path-tracing is still giving some of the most powerful PCs a run for their money. Yet, it lacks one very basic feature, which Remedy suggests they will be adding soon.
Alan Wake 2 would finally get a photo mode later this year Alan Wake 2 artwork showing the protagonists.

Several games are added to the Xbox Game Pass every month, offering gamers a chance to experience their favorite titles by paying just one subscription fee. While the people over at Xbox try and go for a game list that appeals to a wide audience, inevitably they will add a title here and there that doesn’t sit right with fans.
Such is the case with their latest addition to the catalog: the Resident Evil 3 remake. The game is fun and action-packed, but Resident Evil purists and fans of the original felt it left a lot to be desired. Will its presence on Xbox Game Pass go down well? First, let’s understand the criticisms behind the game.

This post contains spoilers for the "Resident Evil" film franchise.
Umbrella Corporation. The name will forever be associated with unsavory, downright evil acts within the "Resident Evil" universe, catalyzing the events that define the franchise. Although Capcom's "Resident Evil" games have their own set of canonical events concerning Umbrella Corp., the film adaptations that branched into their own universe also paint this multinational conglomerate in a rather infamous light. In every iteration, Umbrella is never up to any good: be it the manufacture and mass production of biological weaponry, or ushering a new race of virus-enhance monstrosities. At the end of the day, the "Resident Evil" films also fit the survival-horror mold, with a woman named Alice (Milla Jovovich) at the center of the horrors crafted by none other than Umbrella.

Put it this way: if you haven’t picked up Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake yet, you’ll have no excuse now. Capcom has announced Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series, coming February 9. No word on if the Gold Edition will reach the Apple version of RE4.
As you might expect, the Gold Edition of Resident Evil 4 contains the base game, the “Separate Ways” Dlc and The Mercenaries mode Dlc. If you already have RE4 and both Dlc packs, you’re not missing much. But again, if you still haven’t grabbed the game that’s sold over 6 million units since its launch last year, and want to get its Dlc all in one package, here you go.
The arrival of the Gold Edition signals that Capcom might be done with postlaunch content for the remake, but you never know. Regardless,...

The train that is the Resident Evil 4 remake keeps on chugging along. In a new FY23 Q3 Financial Results report, Capcom has revealed that the acclaimed title has now sold over 6.48 million units since December 2023.
According to the report, Capcom chalks up the sales to “ongoing promotional measures including free title updates for PlayStation VR2.” In addition, Capcom undertook “proactive promotional campaigns” that focused primarily on series title sales. The result saw the Capcom’s sales reach 26.7 million units, which exceeded last year’s 22 million units in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Drilling down even more, that puts the Resident Evil 4 remake ever closer to entering the top 10 in terms of Capcom’s “Platinum Sales” titles, right behind Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, Street Fighter V and Devil May Cry V, the latter of which having a million units up on RE4.

2023 was one hell of a year for games. From long-anticipated sequels like Alan Wake II, unexpectedly great remakes like Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space, and killer indies like Amnesia: The Bunker, there was absolutely no shortage in tremendous horror experiences.
What does the future hold? 2024 is already shaping up to be an interesting year with anticipated experiences of its own. These are the games we’re looking forward to next year.
Silent Hill 2: The Remake (PS5)

After picking up three wins earlier this month at The Game Awards 2023, Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 picked up another three wins at The Horror Game Awards 2023 earlier today. The event also had world premiere trailers for over 20 new titles, as well as a few titles that have already been released that you should check out.
Alan Wake 2 earned wins for Best Narrative, Best Soundtrack (Petri Alanko), and of course, Horror Game of The Year. Alan Wake 2‘s rival this year in Capcom’s Resident Evil 4, which had the unfortunate task of being nominated in many of the same categories. RE4 still earned wins in Best Performance (Nick Apostolides for Leon Kennedy) and Best Survival Horror, while Capcom itself won Best Developer.

It’s a happy coincidence that Resident Evil Village‘s VR mode won Best VR/Ar Game last night, as today Capcom has released the free VR Mode Dlc for their Resident Evil 4 remake. Available exclusively on the PlayStation VR2, there’s also the VR Mode Gameplay Demo available for download via the PlayStation Store.
Resident Evil 4 VR Mode puts players directly to into the game’s nightmarish world allowing them to truly become Leon S. Kennedy. The vividly rendered environments look even more tangible now, thanks to the PlayStation VR2’s 4K Hdr display, and the 3D audio completes the immersion.
The PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers allow for immersive inputs across puzzle-solving, exploration, and combat. Every weapon and item is represented in detail, with haptic feedback making each firearm feel unique right down to the trigger.

Baldur’s Gate III got the better of Alan Wake 2 last night at The Game Awards 2023. Despite both games having 8 nominations, Larian Studios’ RPG snagged five wins, including the coveted Game of the Year. Baldur’s Gate III also won the awards for Best Community Support, Best RPG, Best Multiplayer, and the Player’s Voice.
Fortunately, Alan Wake 2 didn’t walk away empty-handed. Remedy’s return to Bright Falls won the awards for Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Best Art Direction. Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 4, however, was not so fortunate. The remake was shut out of all of its nominations, while Resident Evil Village won its only nomination in the Best VR/Ar Game category.

In another “no brainer” decision, Capcom has has confirmed plans to continue the trend of remaking past Resident Evil titles. Hot off of the success of remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo announced during a PlayStation partners event in Japan that the developer would be pursuing more remakes in the series.
Translated by IGN Japan, Anpo acknowledged Capcom plans when asked if the company plans on continuing with the Resident Evil series remakes. “We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well. Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone that loves these older games, and we want to continue doing more.”

Since the decline (and apparent death) of E3, The Game Awards have become gaming’s biggest yearly event. While that’s partially due to the major reveals and announcements that have quickly come to define the modern era of the show, The Game Awards are obviously still about honoring the best games and creators of the year. So far as that goes, The Game Awards jury certainly has their work cut out for them this year.
After all, 2023 has been one of the best years in gaming history in terms of the sheer number of quality titles that have been released thus far. Not only have we been treated to a surprisingly high number of modern masterpieces this year, but those games cover such a surprising amount of ground in terms of their genres, style, and accomplishments. The wait is finally over for horror video game fans, as The Horror Game Awards have announced the nominees for this year’s event, with public voting now open. YouTuber Phil Dickens aka AKblackandred and Will Penkeyman of Resident Evil Central revealed the nominees via a new video below. Fans can now vote from over 50 games in 11 categories, with at least 20 titles having multiple nominations.
In all, there are 76 nominees for The Horror Game Awards this year, including 8 performers (for Best Performance), 14 developers (for Best Developer), and 54 games. As you might expect, Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 leads the way with 8 nominations, and is nominated in the most categories with 8. Alan Wake 2 also has 8 nominations, but is nominated in 7 categories, with two in the Best Performance nominations.
Here’s how it works: Each member of the 31-member jury gets to nominate one game for each category that they are a part of this year.

Gaming’s biggest awards night returns on December 7 with The Game Awards 2023, and the nominees are in across more than 30 categories. As expected, it’s crowded at the top for nominations, with Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate III and Alan Wake II leading the way with 8 nominations each.
The big question (as with most years) is the Game of the Year Award. This year, Baldur’s Gate III and Alan Wake II are up for the award, but Nintendo has an edge with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The Game Awards 2023 panel has revealed the full list of nominees who will be eligible to win at this year’s show. While many of the nominees are relatively unsurprising, there are certainly a few games that did (and didn’t) get nominated that will get people talking.
Here’s everything you need to know about The Game Awards 2023’s nominees and voting process.
The Game Awards 2023: How Voting Works
According to the Game Awards website, Game Awards winners are determined by a “blended vote” that accounts for jury votes and fan votes. The jury votes account for 90% of the voting weight while the fan votes make up the remaining 10%.
Though an example of that formula is not provided, it’s basically best to think of the system like a 10-person voting jury. Nine of the jurors would represent voting individuals of the group, and the 10th person would...

The prospect of wandering around large, expansive game worlds used to fill me with excitement. Upon escaping the tutorial dungeon for the very first time in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, I distinctly remember being overwhelmed by the sheer scale of that virtual playground rolling out before me, and the endless adventures that it tacitly promised. My awestruck 10-year-old brain couldn’t quite fathom that I was free to go in literally any direction and that, no matter which compass point I chose to follow, I was guaranteed to stumble across some memorable characters, tantalising locations or intriguing questlines.
As a kid who wasn’t yet able to buy their own games — and so usually had to wait until either Christmas or my birthday to get ahold of new releases — the idea of something having that kind of mileage seemed too good to be true. After all, I could make...

Over the last several years, The Game Awards have slowly replaced E3 as the biggest gaming event of the year. While that’s largely due to the number of reveals and exclusive trailers the show has treated us to during that time, The Game Awards are still about…well, the awards. While we won’t know who wins at this year’s show until it is broadcast on December 7, we will soon know all of this year’s nominees.
So here is what you (hopefully) need to know about tuning into this year’s nominee reveal show as well as a few of our predictions about which games might secure the biggest nominations.

After finally getting Resident Evil Village last month, Apple users will be getting Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake just in time for Christmas. The acclaimed remake will arrive for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad and Mac on December 20, with the “Separate Ways” Dlc also being available on the same day.
Available now for pre-order on the App Store, Resident Evil 4 is being made possible on Apple devices thanks to Capcom’s Re Engine and Apple silicon, including the A17 Pro chip on iPhone 15 Pro models, and Macs with M-series chips, such as the new MacBook Pro with the M3 family of chips and supercharged iMac with M3. Resident Evil 4 supports Apple’s MetalFX upscaling, which allows it to deliver high-res imagery and “impressive performance and incredibly responsive gameplay across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.”

Along with being one of my favorite games of the year, Alan Wake 2 is one of the best horror games in quite some time. It’s brimming with personality that feels true to its creators, it’s scary without being overwhelmingly terrifying, its narrative is genuinely compelling, and, for whatever this may be worth to you, it’s achingly beautiful.
However, one of the most fascinating things about Alan Wake 2 is how it handles a debate that has recently divided the horror gaming community: the “Yellow Ladder” problem.
If haven’t gotten swept up in that particular online argument just yet, the yellow ladder debate most commonly refers to a design decision heavily featured in the recent Resident Evil 4 remake. In that game, many ladders (and certain other objects) are splattered with yellow paint or covered in yellow tape.
Why? Well, there’s not always an obvious narrative reason,...
