Don't expect much
sebyred12 February 2009
The one thing that attracted me to see this movie was the story, which is very good. The acting it's... lets just say they can do better if they try to do so (or maybe not). The movie gets boring in a few minutes and at one point you ask yourself why did you want to see this movie, and you remember it was for the story.I'm going to talk a little about the story. It's based on an ancient middle eastern fairy tale.Imad's love Amina gets taken in her dream by an evil genie. Now Imad travels the black desert so he can reach the Tree of Life and save her. In conclusion don't get high expectations when you go see the movie,or you will be disappointed,it's not worth your time.

Painful !!!
ulricjoh13 February 2009
I should have known, a movie that has only 8 votes but gets a score of 8.9 had something suspicious about it. Add to that, alarm bells should have sounded, when I found out that the movie writer also produced; directed and starred in this flop.

After watching around 40 minutes of this drivel (it was so painfully awful) I gave up and turned on the television - watching commercials on the TV were more interesting than putting myself through the agony of poor acting; filming; direction and "special effects" of this lame film.

It truly amazes me that there are people in Hollywood who are willing to finance movies like this one.

Save yourself the pain of wasting even a minute of your life in watching this title. There are plenty of other (and better) movies out there.

Terrible.
seenitall11213 February 2009
At the time I am writing this, this movie has a vote of 8.5. I saw the cover of this film and thought "well that looks crap" but due to the score, I thought I'd give it a shot. I watched the first 15 min of it and I've got no bloody idea what was going on, all the bad effects was making my eyes water so I turned it off. The director clearly wanted to achieve a mystical sense, but all he seemed to achieve was headache for the viewer.

The sound quality is quite bad. The voices have a low rumbling noise and combined with the bad English some of the actors spoke made it almost impossible to understand what they were saying. You can tell the film roll has been lying around because the first 5 minutes of the film has scratches and debris all over it. At first I thought it was an effect, but now I am pretty sure it was not.

For an Arab film, they could of at least picked some more hot girls. The acting... well what can I say about the acting, it is as good as the actor's spoken English, which is pretty crap.

I don't know if a middle eastern viewer would even like this. It is just a headache. If this film was made back in the time of world war II, the Nazi's would have used it as a torture device.

An Incomprehensible Piece of Offal
thorshammer4217 April 2009
If I could give a film zero stars, this would be the film. I watched this film with two of my friends, and not to sound arrogant, but we are not stupid people and we could not make sense of this. I understand the basic premise, but mostly from reading the back of the DVD box (where they misspelled the lead females name). There is a special feature on the film called 7 minutes of Film School, I am guessing this feature is an homage to the amount of time the director actually attended film school. Everything about this film reeked of pretentia, which is a word I had to make up to describe this film. There is no word in the English language, or any other language, that could describe what a piece of garbage this film actually is. We pride ourselves on our ability to enjoy films of a less than stellar nature. However, this film was not so bad that it was good (see also: Doomsday (2008)), it was so bad it reduced me to the level of a gibbering idiot.

Last week, I watched The Musketeer (2001); and as I watched that waste of celluloid, I thought to myself "Self, surely there could not be a bigger waster of time, money, and natural resources.", but this film proved me wrong.

To sum it up, if you enjoyed this film, you are probably on a substance that is currently either prohibited outright or strictly controlled by the government.

Complete waste
dmitriych10 March 2009
This movie is a complete waste of your time. I implore you not to watch this. This movie is causing headache by killing braincells. It looks like someone tried to play a sick joke on the viewer. It makes no sense, you constantly wonder what's going on, why are they showing me this or that. I quit watching this nonsense after about 10 minutes through an incomprehensible pile of moving images. God forbid you try to pay for this! This is a showcase of why we should not pay for a movie. But I don't see why anyone would buy a DVD of this to make a rip and trow it into P2P networks. It's not worth watching even if downloaded for free. Thankfully, I came across an online stream, but had to turn it off after 10 minutes for reasons described by all viewers who gave it a 1 star rating.

The bits are better then the whole in the unevenly acted no budget film of lost love
dbborroughs22 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Low budget story of a man searching for his lost love who has been carried away by an evil djinn. Set in the time of the Arabian nights, this is an often good looking film that often over comes the meager budget by some clever tricks and by very good special effects. Unfortunately the not all of the tricks work such as the film using cuts to say see and angel rise up-first we see the face the we cut to the feet off the ground. That works once, but by the sixth or tenth variation on the theme it grows tiring. The cast is uneven with some characters going off well, the hero, while others are bad, the angel. Its a mixed bag film that kind of works and kind of doesn't.

paulegbeson9 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This is the most awful movie i have watched in my life time. And i have watched a pretty number but this exceeds my expectations. it is the worst the human eye is allowed to see. please don't waste your dime on this one. you would definitely not like to live to see another movie. When i saw the poster i taught it was something worth it but but watching 10min into it i realized its some under grade director trash. I don't really know where they got their idea from. i guess some Limbaugh Arab stuff. I do like Arabic movies but this took me unaware. (please give me back my ten Min's please. My life is wasted please save yours. Thanks for reading my comments.

Interesting film ..unique storyline!
rottentomatoes116 February 2009
I Agree the story was cool...some intense scenes! I thought it was unique and interesting, especially from the back ground of this film. Being a middle eastern story and all. The lead guy "Imad" looks like the guy from the mummy. Lots of cool desert scenes, loved the fortuneteller, and the hookah scene.

The film is not a typical mindless film, it is very indie, you have to watch it a few times to get the weird hidden meanings, my buddies thought the same. The ending was cool, i just saw this on cable movies on-demand, I looked up the film maker, was his first film.,..very cool!

Will look forward to more.

Pretty Good Movie
burtonh22 July 2009
I thought the film was pretty good considering the budget. The special effects were good and the story was good.

I think some people don't understand the Djinn. The Djinn were said to be chaotic and that's why the movie was chaotic but the chaos tied into the story.

You really have to be int mythology to understand this.

Overall I give the movie a 6 out of 10 and this was a good first effort.

I think the females in the movie were very pretty also and it wasn't very long and that was good. I like movies that get to the point of the film.

I recommend this movie. I think the guy has a future in film and this is his first film.
