The late Richard Donner, director of Superman, made some of the most acclaimed and memorable films of the 70s and 80s. He was the go-to director for action blockbusters and entertaining cinema ranging from superhero films to buddy-cop comedies. He directed iconic films such as The Omen, The Goonies, The Lethal Weapon franchise, and Superman.

Josh Brolin, the 56-year-old Oscar nominee for his supporting turn in “Milk,” co-star of Best Picture-winner “No Country For Old Men,” and Barbra Streisand’s stepson, can now add director to his resume. The actor got behind the camera for the first time for the penultimate episode of the second season of “Outer Range,” the sci-fi Western on Amazon Prime Video in which he stars opposite Imogen Poots, Lili Taylor, and Tom Pelphrey.
The new gig has given him a new perspective on working with actors from the director’s chair. Following a crack he made on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” about how he “didn’t really love actors,” he expanded a bit in a conversation with Esquire.
Explaining how he took the new gig very seriously with what he called over-preparation and not “being lazy about it,” he then shared that he wasn’t particularly impressed with certain kinds of...

Director Eric Mathis of Grime House Films and Drake Teer of Teer/Mathis Productions have unleashed the trailer for their upcoming horror movie INfernal, said to be a “thrilling, heavy metal-infused Faustian tale.” The team promises to deliver a “unique blend of horror, metal music, and monstrous mayhem that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.”
Having wrapped production, INfernal is now in its final stages, and the team has launched a finishing funds campaign on Indiegogo. At this time, they are 63% of the way to their goal.
INfernal follows the story of four friends – two of whom are undead and one a pig demon from hell – as they race against time to outsmart the Devil himself after a summoning ritual goes disastrously wrong. The pop culture nostalgia cycle might have moved on to the early 2000s, but for many filmmakers and movie fans, the '80s will never go out of style. That's certainly true for director Ti West, who returns this year with the third chapter of his horror trilogy that started with 2022's "X" and was shortly followed by a surprise prequel, "Pearl." Star Mia Goth will return for this summer's bloody conclusion, "MaXXXine," in which aspiring adult film star (and massacre survivor) Maxine Minx is now trying to break into mainstream movies with a role in horror movie "The Puritan II."
"MaXXXine" is set in 1985 Los Angeles, six years after the events of "X." West recently told Empire magazine that "the '80s aspect of it was a natural, chronological thing" -- but that it was also a great opportunity to draw inspiration from '80s movies. For many people,...

Steven Spielberg’s legacy is a much-renowned one, unmarred by time and the arrival of new talent. His films have established a new era in Hollywood, through Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park. Despite the presence of evolved technologies and newer creatives, not many have been able to recreate the scale of Spielberg’s career or overthrow his status as a living legend.

Like many children of the 80s, I have a soft spot for the 1985 adventure epic Ladyhawke. It’s directed by the great Richard Donner, with it coming just before The Goonies and Lethal Weapon, but after his time with the Superman franchise. Lavishly produced, it wasn’t a hit in 1985 despite having a top-notch cast that included the late Rutger Hauer (in a rare heroic role), Michelle Pfeiffer, and Matthew Broderick. While some might say the latter was rather improbably cast as an Italian thief in the Middle Ages, that’s not actually the weirdest thing about the movie.
Donner has a reputation for always choosing superb composers for his films. Just think about how iconic Michael Kamen and Eric Clapton’s work is for Lethal Weapon, John Williams’s Superman theme, Jerry Goldsmith’s work on The Omen, and Dave Grusin’s score for The Goonies. Yet, one score...

Bhagavan “Doc” Antle’s The Great Tiger Cub Adventure.
The movie was conceived as a Hollywood blockbuster with Kevin Bacon touted for a starring role. It follows three tiger cubs stolen by Evil Biker Bob (presumably not the name on his birth certificate) from a traveling magic show operated by Antle’s Marvelous Marvin. The cubs end up in the possession of several schoolchildren, who stuff them in doll houses and start selling exotic animal photo opportunities to their classmates. This summary makes it sound exciting, right?
Well, the finished product was derided by many of those involved — even Antle referred to it as an “insane piece of crap” on . It definitely doesn’t have to be seen to be believed, but we’ve watched all 48 minutes of it. Here are our findings.

Famed for his acting prowess and deep, intimidating voice, Josh Brolin has now turned his guns straight at Jimmy Kimmel along with Emily Blunt, and John Krasinski after a successful combat outing with Dune: Part Two, a few weeks down the line. The 56-year-old actor boasts a wide-expanding career, with his co-stars being some of Hollywood’s most well-established and popular faces. Furthermore, he has taken it upon himself for the task of documenting these experiences thanks to another of his lesser-known skills – writing.
Ranging from sharing the screens with almost the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s cast in the last two Avengers movies to working on a host of adventure and biopic movies, the actor’s content bucket stays full.

Over the past decade, Josh Brolin has emerged as one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood, even earning an Oscar nomination for the 2008 biographical drama Milk. However, despite his success, the actor doubted his future in the film industry after his feature film debut in the 1985 comedy film The Goonies.

While Quentin Tarantino is considered to be the king of dialogue, his movies’ lines, with all their wholesomeness, clearly lack realism. However, there are movies in which onscreen conversations are really close to real ones, depicting the truth of life.
Here are 7 examples of such truthfully made movies, handpicked by Redditors.
1. Superbad (2007)
Jonah Hill and Michael Cera’s coming-of-age comedy doesn’t really mince words showing the truthful image of the American youth of different interests.
“It was exactly like how high schoolers spoke to each other in 2007,” fairly admits @dabisnit.
2. Uncut Gems (2019)
Directed by Benny and Josh Safdies, this crime thriller is very dialogue-heavy, with lots of multiple conversations happening simultaneously and fastly spoken utterances, which sounds really natural, being reminiscent of our daily communication in the big city.
3. Manchester By the Sea (2016)
“I love that there are no deep monologues. Every bit of dialogue feels real,” as voiced by Redditor @backinredd.

It’s hard for anyone to hate Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. But the movies featuring the actor would be much different if Harry Potter director, Chris Columbus, had said yes to helm the trilogy. However, Columbus had a bigger fish to fry, and we can’t blame him for passing on Spider-Man.

When it comes to Batman flicks, there is one that stands out as a notorious flop: Batman & Robin, starring George Clooney as the caped crusader. The 1997 film currently has a dismal 12% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is often considered the most disappointing Batman flick ever made.
Not everyone, though, concurs with this evaluation. Enter Josh Brolin, whose affinity for the superhero genre isn’t exactly a secret, and of course, his portrayal of Thanos is something that will never be forgotten. The actor, 56, did defend Clooney’s portrayal of the caped crusader.
But is Bruce Wayne in Batman & Robin, played by Clooney, truly the worst Batman in live-action?

Though Clooney’s breakout role on NBC’s ER was much deeper than that, his portrayal of Bruce Wayne in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin is akin to the TV heartthrob cliché.

The Omen was a blessed success upon its release, earning a spot among the top 10 highest-grossing films of 1976. One of those ticket buyers was Wes Craven, who had already made his debut with The Last House on the Left and was gearing up for his sophomore film, The Hills Have Eyes.

Director Weston Razooli made waves at the Toronto International Film Festival last year with Riddle of Fire, which our own Joe Lipsett gave 4/5 stars in his review.
Joe wrote, “Riddle of Fire has all of the hallmarks of a classic ’80s children adventure film, mixed with the quaintness of a British fairytale.” His review continued, “In short: think Goonies meets Adventures in Babysitting with a touch of The Princess Bride‘s aesthetic.”
In this truly one-of-a-kind slice of visionary cinema, “Three mischievous children embark on a woodland odyssey when their mother sends them on an errand.”

McKenna Grace reprises her lead role as Phoebe in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” which led the weekend box office with $45 million. At 17 she is not yet a household name, but she laid some groundwork early: At age six she had a supporting role on the Disney Channel sitcom “Crash & Bernstein.” Later she received an Emmy nomination for her work in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and portrayed the younger selves for the leads in movies like “I, Tonya” and “Captain Marvel.”
Her “Ghostbusters” co-star is Finn Wolfhard, who made his debut at 13 in CW’s “Supernatural” before starring in “Stranger Things” and “It.” Zendaya, star of “Dune: Part Two,” got her start as a Disney Channel regular. Her co-star, Oscar-nominated Austin Butler, cut his teeth at Nickelodeon.

Long before she was a movie star, a teenage Nicole Kidman appeared in the early-’80s action comedy “BMX Bandits,” a rowdy Australian kidpic full of bicycle stunts and Scooby-Doo crime-stopping shenanigans. It’s too early to say whether any of the adorable young leads in “Riddle of Fire” will go on to have successful acting careers. Still, it’s amusing to think that two decades into the 21st century, writer-director Weston Razooli has taken inspiration from such questionable classics, along with vintage live-action Disney fare — like “Escape from Witch Mountain” and the Herbie movies, which the studio sold in puffy white VHS cases — for his own retro-spirited debut.
Spun from equal parts imagination and nostalgia, “Riddle of Fire” comes as close as any film since “Spy Kids” or “Kisses” to mirroring the kind of cinematic adventures we made in our heads as kids. Razooli remembers how it feels to...

Universal is bending time and space to set a date for Ke Huy Quan’s next movie. The studio will release With Love on Feb. 7, 2025. With Love marks the Oscar-winning actor’s first time leading a major movie.
The film is produced by 87North, the stunt-centric banner behind Nobody, Violent Night and the upcoming feature Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. Plot details are being kept under lock and key.
The film continues the trajectory for Quan, who broke out as a child actor in movies like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Goonies, before spending decades without acting roles only to return with an Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Films made by the likes of Netflix seem to have one chance to get noticed – and then they’re falling away, almost forgotten. A few thoughts.
You might just have noticed, but we’ve just had the Academy Awards come and go, with a traditional studio taking home the top prize. Snapping at their heels, streaming services spending a lot of money to promote their wares, but not winning a lot of gold.
Among this year’s streaming contenders: Maestro, Killers Of The Flower Moon, Nyad, Society Of The Snow and Rustin. Some smashing films there: my fear is, in some cases, that’s going to be pretty much the last we’ve heard of them.
The unsuccessful Oscar campaign is nothing fresh of course. In recent years though, streaming services – Netflix in particular – have allowed hard cash to flow into their attempt to earn Academy Awards. Of those streamers,...

Richard Donner's 1985 adventure film "The Goonies" has a passionate following of young men who fell in love with it at an early age. Like Steven Spielberg's "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," "The Goonies" was exceptionally adept at depicting 11-year-old boys as crass, sloppy, clumsy imps. Unlike the mini-adults one might encounter in most family movies, the kids in "The Goonies" talked over each other, cussed openly, made gross jokes, and were unabashedly mean to one another. The main characters of "The Goonies" may be friends, but they would rather rag on each other, bicker, scream, and pull cruel pranks than admit camaraderie. Some find these kinds of characters to be refreshingly authentic.
The casual cruelty of the Goonies is on most brazen display near the start of the film. Several young boys are gathering together at a suburban home — one they'll have to move away from soon — for fun times and casual play.

It’d been nearly a decade since our last trip to the wasteland, but we’ll be returning to the world of Mad Max in just a few short months. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will put the focus on Furiosa, the breakout character played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road. As this spinoff deals with a younger version of Furiosa, Anya Taylor-Joy has taken over the role, and she’s joined by none other than Chris Hemsworth, who plays Warlord Dementus.
Chris Hemsworth took to social media to share a new image of his character from Furiosa, who is perched atop an aggressive-looking bike. Love the little teddy bear strapped to his chest. Check it out below!

Hey you guuyyysssss. When Josh Brolin was cast as older Walsh brother Brandon in 1988’s The Goonies, he had the role of being one of the more mature central cast members. But that doesn’t mean he had it all figured out. After all, it was his debut film, so he could afford as many pointers from the more seasoned people on set…including Steven Spielberg, who had to bring the up-and-comer down a few notches during filming.
Speaking with GQ, Josh Brolin remembered that Steven Spielberg gave him some sound advice during the making of The Goonies. Spielberg may not have been the director – those duties fell on Richard Donner – but he did have story credit and was frequently on hand. “It was a really innocent and a really fun time, and I thought that’s how movies were done and they weren’t. I remember coming up to Spielberg at some point,...

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movie took everyone by surprise with its awesome visuals, gripping story, and top-notch acting. And now, get ready for the sequel, Dune: Part Two; it’s about to blow your mind. We’re diving back into the sandy world of Frank Herbert’s novel, with familiar faces like Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya leading the charge.

But hold onto your seats because there are some newbies joining the crew too, like Florence Pugh and Christopher Walken. It’s gonna add a whole new layer of excitement to the story.
With Denis Villeneuve steering the ship once again, and with Greig Fraser’s epic cinematography and Hans Zimmer’s incredible music, Dune: Part Two is set to be even bigger and better than the first. This sequel is shaping up to be a real cinematic masterpiece that’ll have audiences talking for years to come.

Steven Spielberg is one of the most respected and talented people to have ever existed in the film industry. Having the knowledge of a legend in cinema, a lot can be learned from him. Many would give a lot to get an opportunity to ask the filmmaker just one question. But of course, very few get such a chance.

Josh Brolin has had an interesting career over the years. His breakthrough role came with the 1985 adventure comedy film Goonies. In the 2000s, he gained prominence playing significant roles in acclaimed films such as No Country For Old Men and Milk. The 2010s was a great decade for Brolin as he tasted huge commercial success with the last two Avengers films and Deadpool 2.

He played iconic comic book characters Thanos and Cable in the two films. However, he had already dipped into the comic book world with DC’s 2010 film Jonah Hex. The film is considered one of the worst superhero films ever made and Brolin is still taking the blame for the disastrous results of the film and continues to criticize its quality.

The Goonies star Josh Brolin is reportedly in negotiations to take the title role vacated by Pedro Pascal in Cregger’s ‘multi-story horror epic’.
Last year, we saw a furious bidding war between several studios vying to secure Weapons, Zach Cregger’s next film. Following the breakout success of 2022’s Barbarian, there was plenty of interest in Cregger’s follow-up project. That’s partly because the last couple of years have seen some big moves in the horror space, with each studio looking to secure popular filmmakers to work in a genre that continues to flourish, even as other types of films face a less certain future.
In the end, New Line Cinema secured Cregger’s services and it seems like the filmmaker is getting carte blanche to make whatever he wants to, with Weapons being described as a ‘multi-story horror epic’ in the expansive style of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia.

If you weren’t already hyped up enough for Dune: Part Two, co-star Josh Brolin (Gurney Halleck) has just about the most wild pitch to get you into theaters. And it involves Elvis, a sexy cyborg and everyone’s favorite chocolatier.
Taking to Instagram ahead of Dune: Part Two’s March 1st wide release, Brolin offered the following take on the highly anticipated sequel, rattling off a fever dream that plays off of the cast’s most famous characters and Zendaya’s eye-catching outfit from the movie’s premiere.

It may not be the most highfalutin adjective, but if you wanted to describe the tone of True Detective: Night Country in a single word, you could do a lot worse than "spooky."
Sure, the show's previous seasons trafficked in creepiness as well, but in taking over for creator Nic Pizzolatto, new showrunner Issa Lopez has taken the "graveyard at midnight" vibes to a new level.
With its constant dark, howling winds, frozen corpses, and actual freakin' ghosts, Night Country has often felt more like a horror flick than a police procedural.
So it's fitting that True Detective Season 4 Episode 6 should kick off the finale proceedings by plunging our protagonists into an underground cave where a woman was murdered years earlier.
Navarro literally takes the lead in this stage of the investigation, following a whispering voice that once again has Danvers (and the audience) wondering if she's supernaturally gifted or...

When it was announced that Linda Hamilton would be joining Stranger Things for its fifth and final season, it felt like a perfect addition to the cast, as she was a favorite presence in the 1980s, when the series is set. She, too, is a fan of the Netflix show…and that’s precisely why she won’t watch the season she’ll be featured in.
Speaking with Us Weekly, Linda Hamilton said that being cast in Stranger Things will interfere with her appreciation of the show, adding that she won’t be able to finish it like the rest of its fans. “When you really buy into something, you don’t see yourself in it. So I think in a way, it kind of ruined the show for me. I never watch [a project], once I’m in something…It would just completely take me out of the reality of it to see myself in there.

Some cliche somewhere said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. If you have any questions or comments, or even suggestions of art or other great artists, feel free to contact me at any time at theodorebond@joblo.com.

"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" is the most contentious of the first three "Indiana Jones" movies. Director Steven Spielberg's filmmaking instincts are sharp as ever, as is Harrison Ford's charisma, and even before the mine tunnel sequence, the film moves like a roller coaster in the best way possible.
But in aping early 20th-century pulp, the film inherits their exoticized distortions of non-American cultures. "Temple of Doom" is mostly set in British-occupied India, but the villains are not these colonizers. No, Indy and co. face off against an indigenous threat: the vicious Thuggee cult that enslaves children and makes human sacrifices to the Hindu god Kali. I'm admittedly not an expert on Indian culture (nor were the writers of the movie), so I'll defer to one who is; Indian-Canadian writer Saffron Maeve has taken the film to task over at Little White Lies. Otherwise, I'll let...

Josh Brolin is the Oscar-nominated actor who has jumped back and forth between prestige projects and big studio titles, including his most famous role as the big purple bad guy Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and “Avengers: End Game” (2019). Let’s take a look back at 16 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
It was over three decades ago that the teenage Brolin made his film debut in “The Goonies” (1985) but it is only in the last 10 years or so that he has risen to the top of the list of respected actors and become a full-out movie star. As Brolin himself joked on an episode of “Inside the Actor’s Studio,” he got everything wrong for the first half of his career and only recently started getting it right. Brolin is perhaps being too hard on himself since he has had a very steady rise in show business...

HBO is getting ready to unleash its latest miniseries in the form of "The Regime." The series has a lot going for it as it has an Oscar-winning actress at the center of the story, which hails from two of the minds behind one of the network's most beloved shows in recent memory, "Succession." But this is a very different sort of show not focused on the world of messy corporate politics, instead taking place inside a European palace and an authoritarian regime.
But what is this show about, exactly? Who is behind the camera and responsible for its creation? Who is in front of the camera bringing this political regime to life? We're here to answer all of those questions and more, offering up everything you need to know about the show before it arrives. Let's get into it.

Released by a train crash, a mysterious creature rampages through a small Ohio town. The military is on its trail, the local authorities are overwhelmed, and a group of local kids… who planned to spend their summer making a zombie movie… take it upon themselves to figure out what’s going on. That’s the set-up for director J.J. Abrams’ 2011 film Super 8 (watch it Here) – and it’s time for it to be Revisited.
Like many aspiring filmmakers, J.J. Abrams started making movies at a young age, casting his friends and shooting on Super 8 film. As a teenager, he was able to participate in a young filmmakers’ festival in Los Angeles. Newspaper coverage of that festival caught the attention of one of Abrams’ heroes, another director who had gotten started making Super 8 movies when he was young: Steven Spielberg. Although Abrams and Spielberg didn’t meet at that time,...
