It’s been a while since Ronny J has produced a Denzel Curry track, but the artists have linked up once again for the new song “Woo,” which you can listen to below.
Punctuated by quick-spit bars from the rapper, “Woo” rests on a catchy, tongue-in-cheek delivery from Curry that plays off the song’s title. “I walk in, them bitches go ‘Woo!'” he explains, before warning, in the same tone, “Don’t come around gang, we ain’t cool.”
“The ‘Woo’ session was good considering this is the first session Ronny J and I have done in years,” Curry revealed in a statement. “We brought in Chief Pound, who’s been an essential part of Ult from its conception and having PlayThatBoiZay on the record really shows the unity in Carol City.”

Turns out the clip of “Blood on My Nikez” Denzel Curry shared last week wasn’t complete: today, the rapper has shared the full version of the single, featuring none other than Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J.
Juicy J jumps into “Blood on My Nikez” like a refined elder statesman. While Curry dons sneakers, J modifies the refrain with the quip, “Let me wipe the blood off my Louis boots.” From there, the horrorcore icon examines the modern rap game, spitting, “2023 and you know these n***** don’t scrap no more/ I keep it 19 like I’m Leonardo DiCaprio.”
“Blood on My Nikez” marks Curry’s first solo single of 2023. Earlier this year, he made an appearance on Armani White’s “Goated,” while his last proper album was 2022’s Melt My Eyez See Your Future. Meanwhile, Juicy J last contributed to the 2021 F9: The Fast Saga soundtrack after dropping The...

St. Louis native Sexyy Red does it with her foot on the gas. The 25-year-old rapper’s music is unabashed fun. She’s a classic Southern rapper with a sticky and viscous flow and an anachronistic approach to music. She abstains from traditional lyricism or liquid singing for one-sentence phrases or personal and sexual anecdotes that are meant for fans to call back to her onstage. Her hooks are her greatest talent, allowing the listener to sing along with her. You insert your rambunctious fun along with her; you sing...

One of the most common struggles music artists face once they sign to a label is being able to call the shots. If you observe the careers of some of today's most successful artists, like Bad Bunny or Tokischa, their best work is usually released when they're finally given the creative freedom to express themselves exactly how they want. This is a challenge Snow Tha Product (born Claudia Alexandra Madriz Meza) knows all too well. Since parting ways with her label in 2018 and returning to the music scene as an independent artist, the Latin Grammy-nominated Mexican rapper from California has been creating some of her proudest and most vulnerable work. Gangsta Boo, a rapper and former member of hip-hop group ‘Three 6 Mafia’, passed away. She was 43.
Her death was reported by Fox 13 Memphis and Wreg Memphis.
According to Fox 13, Boo – whose birth name was Lola Mitchell – was found dead around 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Wreg reported that Boo’s death was confirmed by a representative. The cause of her death has not been disclosed, reports Variety.
A product of the Dirty South school of hip-hop in the 1990s, Boo’s edgy raps and frank sexuality made her an energetic Memphis counterpart to Philadelphia rapper Eve, Brooklyn’s Lil Kim and Miami’s Trina.

"Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" is the latest true-crime dramatization to feature a famously good-looking actor as an infamous murderer. Evan Peters stars as the titular real-life serial killer in the September 2022 release, following the likes of Ross Lynch as Dahmer in 2017's "My Friend Dahmer," Zac Efron as Ted Bundy in 2019's "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile," and many others. But despite its high production value, successful ratings, and supposed aim to educate its audience, the series is sparking long overdue conversations about how true-crime dramatizations tend to capitalize on shock value, exploit victims while romanticizing perpetrators, and ultimately do more harm than good.
Jeffrey Dahmer was a serial killer who murdered 17 young men and boys between 1978 and 1991. He sought out his victims - mostly Black, Latino, and Asian men - at gay bars, bus stops, and malls, luring them into his home and drugging them before strangling them to death.

Easterling may be going for a little old-fashioned revenge, or Easterling, 42, is just smitten with her new boyfriend, whose full name is Matthew Raymond Hauri, 26. Hauri wasn’t nominated in the show, but his profile as a rapper has been slowly rising over the past few years.
Hauri opened up about the relationship in a red carpet interview. “We met online and we connected right away,” he said. “You know, I’m from the furthest north it gets, and she’s from the furthest south it gets.”

A Megan Thee Stallion verse is not unlike a bag of salt and vinegar chips—there’s something classic and quaint and straight-up hood about the sharp and improbable flavors packed inside every one of them. There were always going to be some quirky juxtapositions with Meg. The twenty-something spitter is an old soul who swears by Pimp C and Biggie and Juicy J. While other rappers her age couldn’t point out Pete Rock in a police lineup, nearly every time Meg spits a freestyle in one of her many viral clips,...

TikTok quickly went from the app where Leah Kate’s career first blew up to the musician’s “worst nightmare” amid her current tour with Chase Atlantic. During the pandemic, the pop-punk singer — responsible for breakup bops “10 Things I Hate About You” and “Fuck Up This Friendship ” — got her big break on the video sharing app, where she boasts 600,000 followers and has nearly 22 million likes across her videos. But overnight this summer, the posts about her on the app turned negative.

Vladimir Putin gave one of Russia’s most controversial rappers a special birthday present this year: designation as a foreign agent. The first musician to ever receive the government branding, rapper Face spent his 25th birthday elated by the news.
“I’m proud of it. It’s the best birthday gift I’ve ever had,” the disruptive young rapper told Rolling Stone. “So many people have congratulated me on it. It describes our country somewhat right now that this status should be seen as a type of shame.”

The late, great Adolph Robert Thornton Jr. spent his entire rap career campaigning to be the King of Memphis, through his soul-stirring music and a selfless generosity to his community that felt as large as the signature diamond-encrusted Paper Route Empire dolphin that stayed around his neck. On a warm and somber day, Dec. 16 — nearly a month after his life was tragically cut short — Young Dolph’s life was celebrated in royal fashion at Memphis’ FedEx Forum, in a building full of family, peers, friends, and supporters from all across Tennessee.

Teenagers aren’t typically known for being on time, but the crowd waiting to enter Lollapalooza on Thursday morning proved that generalization wrong. “By 11:30 a.m., it was already poppin’, and usually it’s dead then,” a 25-year-old woman told her friends while waiting for Jimmy Eat World to take the stage. She was right. Thousands of fans arrived early this year in hopes of staking out good sightlines, posing for photo ops, and roaming their first music festival in two years. Ty Dolla $ign, Jack Harlow, and 24kGoldn have teamed up for a new song, “I Won,” the first official single from the upcoming soundtrack for the next Fast and Furious movie, F9.
The song is anchored by big bass and drum hits, topped by a light synth riff that gives the song a sly edge. “It was fifteen years ago, and I still don’t believe it,” says DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia, possibly the most shocking Oscar winners in history. The Memphis-spawned hip-hop group won Best Original Song in 2006 for the theme track from the Terence Howard-starring film “Hustle & Flow,” which bears the spectacularly unsubtle title of “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp.”
It’s safe to say the Academy Awards had never seen anything like the group’s performance on the show, either. There was an elaborate, Oscar-level set themed around the film with dancers and dazzling lights, but there was also Three 6 Mafia swaggering across the stage in street wear while the film’s co-star Taraji P. Henson belted the song’s chorus, resplendent in a glamorous white dress and heels.

Three of this year’s Oscar nominated tunes were penned by Black songwriters: Celeste reaped a bid (along with Daniel Pemberton) for “Hear My Voice” from “The Trial of the Chicago”; D’Mile, recent Grammy champ H.E.R. and Tiara Thomas collaborated on “Fight for You” from “Judas and the Black Messiah”; and supporting actor nominee Leslie Odom Jr. was cited with Nashville based singer/songwriter Sam Ashworth for “Speak Now” from “One Night in Miami.”
The first Black tunesmith to contend for Best Original Song at the Oscars was Quincy Jones who was nominated in 1967 (alongside lyricist Bob Russell) for “The Eyes of Love” from the long-forgotten “Banning.” (Jones earned the first of his four score Oscar nominations that same year for “In Cold Blood.”) He and Russell reaped another bid the following year for the title tune from “For Love of Ivy.” His last nomination to date was in 1985 for...

Craig Brewer is a white filmmaker not unaccustomed to Black-centered stories. Barring his 2000 indie debut, “The Poor & Hungry,” and his 2011 “Footloose” remake, his films predominantly feature African-American protagonists. Brewer based his Memphis-set Southern rap drama “Hustle & Flow” on his friendships with hip-hop artists Al Kapone, Juicy J, and DJ Paul. (John Singleton produced the film.) The blaxploitation-influenced “Black Snake Moan,” whose framed poster features a provocative, menacing Samuel L. Jackson standing over a chained daisy-duke wearing Christina Ricci, peaks from behind Brewer’s shoulder, while hanging on his wall.
Brewer is still riding high from his first Eddie Murphy collaboration — the widely successful “Dolemite Is My Name,” a light-hearted biopic of blaxploitation icon Rudy Ray Moore that garnered the best reviews of the filmmaker’s career while ushering a comeback for Murphy. An ‘80s cinema fanatic, “The Breakfast Club” and “Purple Rain” greatly impacted the Memphis filmmaker, as did...

In the Justin Fleischer and Mike Holland-directed video, Juicy J and Logic reflect on how and what they were doing in the year 1995 and how that relates to where they are now. Logic opens with his verse. “My lane different, too sufficient, my brain different,” he raps of that time period. “I’m ill though, 15, mastered the skill though.” Juicy J recalls “Whipping through North Memphis back in 1995/Screamin’ ‘Mafia’ had my city hypnotized.
