Prime Video’s “The Boys” isn’t a show that pulls its punches. The hit television series is in fact known to be gratuitous in every regard, from its depiction of sex and violence to its timely socio-economic and political commentary. But for all the fun showrunner Eric Kripke and his staff have putting “The Boys” together, there’s also a great importance put on using the superhero narrative to capture something bigger about who we are as people and where we are as a country. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kripke said oftentimes, their writing parallels real life in eerie ways.
“Sometimes we feel like we’re Satan’s writers room,” said Kripke, addressing how the current season, revolving around a tense presidential election, may hit too close to home for some.
“When Seth [Rogen] and Evan [Goldberg] and I took it out to pitch, it was 2016,” Kripke said later,...

While viewers curse streaming platforms for canceling shows too early and not giving them another chance, they are just as quick to drop the entire series based on the impressions of the pilot episode. Although understandable, sometimes this logic deprives people of watching some of the best shows.
Here are 8 TV shows that redditors of the r/television subreddit dropped after watching only the pilot, but then picked up and grew to love.
Schitt's Creek (2015-2020)
Like most sitcoms, the pilot was just the writers testing the waters. It set up a backstory, put the characters in their niches, and was released with the hope that the show would hit the right spots for all genre fans. Fortunately, the brilliant cast and the talent of Dan Levy and his father, Eugene Levy, were enough to get the show off the ground.

The Boys is one of the most popular superhero series in the world at this moment. The twisted take on the superhero genre, adapted from the comic book of the same name, became a major hit for Amazon Prime and a series that has pushed the boundaries of what can be shown on TV in more ways than one. After three successful seasons and a spin-off series, the fourth season of The Boys is coming back later this year, with the premiere scheduled for June 13, 2024. We have received a preview trailer and several posters, and today, a new proper trailer was released in preparation for the premiere. But, in preparation for the upcoming Season 4 premiere, The Hollywood Reporter sat down for a talk with showrunner Eric Kripke.

Prime Video's The Boys adaptation may be known for its extreme gore, dark humor and comic book parodies, but it's never shied away from including sociopolitical satire, and the show has arguably gained more attention for its blistering take-down of America's far right.
Showrunner Eric Kripke has always been very up-front about what - and who - the series is taking aim at, and the writing has proved to be almost prescient with its parallels to current events.
For example, the upcoming fourth season finds Homelander on trial for publicly killing a protestor in the season 3 finale, and the show returns to our screens shortly after former President Donald Trump's numerous convictions.
"It’s happened now almost every season, and we write them sometimes close to two years before they air and again we’ll find that the news is accurately reflecting whatever we’re talking about," Kripke tells THR.

The first Iron Man film led by Robert Downey Jr. in 2008 served as the launchpad for the Marvel Cinematic Universe that became a name synonymous with success. The idea of a flamboyant billionaire who built himself a suit of armor from metal scraps in a cave resonated with the audience, becoming a solid foundation for the superhero franchise that we know and adore.

The Boys is soaring back onto Amazon Prime Video next week, boldly unpacking a massive storyline that’s more timely than ever. Are we ready for another season teetering with anticipation, as the series showrunner, Eric Kripke, recently weighed in on some of the intense discussion?
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kripke responded to criticism that the show has become “woke” in its most recent seasons. Fans have criticized The Boys for having political overtones, and Kripke addressed this, particularly in light of Homelander’s similarities to former US President Donald Trump.

Remaining unrepentant about the show’s premise and themes, Kripke seemed to enjoy annoying the critics. He encouraged viewers to “go watch something else” and said that it was okay for anyone to label the show as “woke” or whatever.

Eric Kripke had a Midas touch long before the Hollywood establishment gave him credit for it. In 2005, he created Supernatural — one of the 10 longest-running primetime dramas in history, only wrapping in 2020. But it was a cheap, genre show on an unsexy network, The CW, so even an ensuing string of doubles (Revolution, Timeless) did little to move his needle. Then, he sold an adaptation of Garth Ennis’ hard-r comic book The Boys to Amazon. In other hands, it might have been Diet Deadpool. But Kripke crafted a scathing satire of 21st century America where Homelander, the chiseled superhero in the American flag cape, is an authoritarian proxy for Donald Trump. Critics immediately took a shine, but its commercial success — the most recent season earned more eyeballs than The Rings of Power, with 106 billion minutes viewed in 2022 — made Kripke a priority at the streamer. There, he’s swiftly built out the...

The Boys returns to our screens next week, and Prime Video (via Discussing Film) has shared the first clip from the season 4 premiere.
Here, we see Billy Butcher attempt to get Ryan to leave with him during Victoria Neuman's campaign speech. The last time these two spoke, Butcher did what he felt was best for Ryan by telling him that he never wanted him, but this approach backfired by bringing the easily-manipulated young Supe closer to his father.
Butcher almost manages to convince the lad that going with him would be what his "mum would want," before Homelander arrives on the scene.
One-on-one confrontations between these mortal enemies have been kept to a minimum - in large part due to the fact that it can be hard to come up with believable reasons why Homie wouldn't just laser his head off - but here, the ruthless...

The Boys returns for its fourth season on next week, and Prime Video has now released another character poster, this time spotlighting the two latest members of the "superhero" group known as The Seven.
As you might expect, those new recruits turn out to be every bit as unhinged/amoral as pretty much every other Supe that's been part of the team, but one, in particular, might be the most dangerous of all: The smartest person in the world, Sister Sage (Susan Heyward).
"It's such a funny power," showrunner Eric Kripke said of the scheming Supe in a recent interview with EW. "A lot of superhero worlds have that character. Whereas most of them are usually really reedy white dudes, we wanted a Black woman who was raised in a low socioeconomic area, so no one f---ing listens to her. Now, as fans have wondered what season 4 of the series would entail, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke was gracious enough to clue us in revealing that the upcoming season will also take a jibe at the upcoming United States election. This would definitely provide the relevance that the show needed with its narrative.

The Boys arrived on Prime Video at the right time, and that has played into the show's popularity today. In 2019, when the series had just premiered, viewers were tired of too many superheroes coming at them from both Marvel and DC, not to mention The CW's own take. The irony of The Boys felt like a breath of fresh air.
The show continued its clever method of parodying the superhero genre in the best possible way. Sometimes cruel, sometimes extremely disturbing, The Boys has proven that nothing is impossible on television, as long as the audience is willing to watch. And from the looks of things, season 4 is going to up the bar yet again.

During a Twitter Q&a back in 2020, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke stated that his rough idea for the show's entire run included “five seasons total.” But the series was recently renewed for a fifth season, and the word "final" was nowhere to be seen in Prime Video's press release!
Now, Kripke has amended his original prediction.
“I have learned since then to not try to call the seasons as the person who, and this is without hyperbole, is literally the most wrong in entertainment history of how many seasons their show should go,” he tells Inverse. “Someone pointed that out to me and I was like, ‘You're right. That's ridiculous. I need to keep my mouth shut.’ And so I will.”
Kripke may not know when The Boys is going to end, but he does know how the story is going to conclude.

Every time a new season of The Boys arrives, it does so with a valid question: how can it possibly top what came last time? With each successive season, Prime Video’s satirical superhero series – in which powered-up individuals exist, and are largely monstrous people – ups the ante on its shocking scenes, gratuitous gore, and pointed political storytelling. Now, Season 4 is imminent, following the wilder-than-ever Season 3, and the debauched antics of YA spin-off Gen V – while Season 5 has already been confirmed to follow, promising more story to come in the war between Superman-alike psychopath Homelander (Antony Starr), and his human nemesis Billy Butcher (Karl Urban).
But fear not – good shows can’t last forever, and showrunner Eric Kripke has a proper ending in mind for The Boys, whenever that time arises. “You can’t build a show that’s about these two forces of Homelander and Butcher slowly closing in...

As "The Boys" season 4 approaches, it's worth remembering the events of season 3 (some are pretty hard to forget) and where the characters' arcs left off. Most of us know the gist of things: Homelander (Antony Starr) is still at large, and Butcher (Karl Urban) is still with the Boys trying to take him down. But there's about a dozen other storylines going at any given point, and even the Homelander v. Butcher thread was complicated massively in the season 3 finale.
So, two years after the last season aired, here's your guide to everything you need to remember about your favorite characters like Maeve, Annie, Hughie, Frenchie, A-Train and The Deep. We'll also go into the recent spin-off "Gen V," whose characters appear in the trailer for "The Boys" season 4 trailer, pointing to further overlapping of storylines. We know you might not have the time to do a full rewatch, so here's the next best thing.

As the season 4 premiere of The Boys draws near, Prime Video has debuted a series of new character posters spotlighting the returning heroes - and one very interesting addition.
The banners feature Billy Butcher, Hughie Campbell, Frenchie, Kimiko, Starlight/Annie, Mm and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's new character, Joe Kessler.
Does this indicate that Kessler will be joining the team? Well, we don't want to give anything away, so let's just say that his placement alongside Butcher on the poster is no accident.
"He is an old colleague of Butcher's," showrunner Kripke teased in a recent interview. "I can tell you that he shares a lot of Butcher's concern and hatred of superheroes. It really came from the notion of everyone else in The Boys is always trying to pull Butcher back. So what would happen if he started working with someone who wants to push him forward?"

Eric Kripke’s The Boys has forever changed the superhero genre as it featured an unorthodox take that was immediately appreciated by the fans. The popularity stemmed from deviating from the original concept of how superheroes should be noble and save the day. However, Kripke defenestrates that notion as he makes the heroes become villains. As a result, the show became an instant hit and the new favorite show of the viewers.

The Boys continues with its satirical comparisons of Antony Starr’s Homelander and former President Donald J. Trump. The fictional corporation Vought International shared a sneak peek of Homelander’s trial from Season 4 almost immediately after Trump was convicted on 34 felony charges in New York. 5 Reasons Why Superman Would Beat Homelander - Main Image
If the Man of Steel were up against The Boys' most notorious antagonist, the world would be in chaos. The question is, who would win?
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Antony Starr gave plenty of reasons why Homelander would beat Superman in a 1v1. But we beg to differ. While Homelander is a killing machine, we doubt he would stand a chance against the mighty Superman.
This article explains why the DC superhero would obliterate Dynamite Entertainment’s beloved villain.
Superior Powers and Abilities
While Homelander is insanely powerful and possesses many abilities, he’s below Superman in terms of potential. Superman is faster, stronger, and more resilient.
The character of Homelander was inspired by Superman, which is why you can draw parallels between them. However, Homelander is still much weaker than Superman in terms of sheer strength and abilities.

After quite some time without news, Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios finally confirmed the release date for the last character of Kombat Pack 1 in Mortal Kombat 1. Homelander, the popular main character from The Boys, will be available next week in the game.
Fans are not very pleased with the final version of this character; users on X say that it looks like a bad mod, and the lack of Antony Starr’s voice hurts the content. This was a strange choice, especially because Peacemaker has John Cena voicing the Dlc character.

Antony Starr has made a major impact as the psychotic Supe known as Homelander over three seasons of Prime Video's The Boys adaptation, but is there a chance he might suit-up as a more conventional superhero at some point?
A recent rumor claimed that the title role in the planned Max Booster Gold series has already been cast, and when fans noticed that Starr and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn had started following each other on Instagram, speculation mounted that the Aussie actor may have been cast as Michael Jon Carter.
Why that particular character and not another Dcu role? Well, Booster is blonde, and Starr... plays a blonde guy on The Boys.
At any rate, it doesn't sound like the social media sleuths have landed on something here - not that Starr would confirm if they had!
"Me and James just play golf," Starr told ComicBook.com when asked about the rumors.

Antony Starr is best known for his television roles, especially as Homelander in the hit superhero series “The Boys.” As Homelander, Starr portrays a psychopathic superhero, and it’s difficult to imagine him in any other role these days.
Currently, Starr isn’t involved with the Dcu. However, fans have noticed that he and the director follow each other on social media.
This led to numerous theories, especially with the recent discussions about the ‘Booster Gold’ TV show. Fans connected the dots and speculated that Starr might play the titular character, mainly because of his resemblance to the comic character and his apparent friendship with James Gunn.
However, in a recent interview with ComicBook, Starr swiftly addressed and dismissed the rumors.

Antony Starr is famous primarily for his roles in television series, notably for portraying the character of Homelander in the popular superhero show “The Boys.’ In the show, Starr plays a psychopathic “superhero” Homelander, and honestly, it’s hard imagining him as anything else these days.
So, how is Starr currently connected to the Dcu? He isn’t. But fans did notice a while ago that the actor and the director follow each other on social media.
This spawned plenty of theories, and considering that the ‘Booster Gold’ TV show was discussed a lot in the last few weeks, fans connected the dots and assumed that Starr would play the titular character, mostly due to his physical similarities to the comic character and apparently, his friendship with James Gunn.
In his recent interview with ComicBook, Starr addressed the rumors and shot it down pretty quickly.

Superman stands as a pinnacle among superheroes, renowned for his unmatched strength, resilience, and array of powers. Many have been pitted against him, often falling short.
However, comparisons become complex when his counterpart, Homelander, enters the discussion. Homelander, a clone of Superman in ‘The Boys’ universe, possesses similar powers but is characterized by darker, more twisted tendencies.
Numerous theoretical battles between Superman and Homelander have been debated, typically with Superman emerging victorious. Recently, Jack Quaid, the voice actor for Superman in ‘My Adventures With Superman,’ expressed confidence in Superman’s ability to defeat Homelander while promoting the show’s second season.
Antony Starr caught wind of the claim and delivered a perfectly hilarious yet fittingly true response, staying completely in line with Homelander’s character.
Antony Starr: Oh, really? Is that what he thinks? Here’s why Homelander would kick Superman’s ass. There’s no Kryptonite factor, and Homie would fight so dirty.

As one of the most powerful and most popular superheroes of all time, Superman is often the golden standard when it comes to measuring strength, durability, and other superpower-related factors. Plenty of characters have been measured against Superman and plenty lost, the things however get murky when the character being compared to Superman, is his clone, at least when powers are concerned.
One such Superman clone is Homelander, who belongs to ‘The Boys’ universe, with darker, twisted, and more sadistic personality traits.
Plenty of ‘Superman Vs. Homelander’ theoretical fights exist and it most often ends with Superman on the winning side. Recently, Jack Quaid, ‘My Adventures With Superman’ voice actor who portrays Superman in the show commented how Superman would have no trouble defeating Homelander while promoting the second season of the show.
Antony Starr heard about it and had a perfectly hilarious response that is also quite true and completely in character for Homelander.

Giancarlo Esposito recently confirmed that he had joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe... but not as the character he's been campaigning to play over the past few months, Charles Xavier.
During Ccxp back in May (via Collider), Esposito revealed that he will be appearing in a Marvel Studios project, but declined to reveal any more details. The actor did say that we'd find out "sooner rather than later," and the role is "better than you can imagine."
There was some speculation that Esposito might show up in the cameo-filled Deadpool and Wolverine, but according to Mttsh, he will be making his MCU debut in an upcoming Disney+ series.
Does this narrow down the character possibilities? Not really, since we have Agatha All Along, Ironheart, Daredevil: Born Again, and the recently announced Vision series all on the horizon, as well as more Marvel Spotlight presentations such as Wonder Man.

We're now just three weeks away from the season 4 premiere of The Boys, and Prime Video has shared a new still spotlighting the reshuffled members of the "superhero" team known as The Seven.
The updated roster (it's a running joke that there's never actually seven of them) consists of original members Homelander, The Deep, A-Train, and Black Noir (with a different character under the mask), along with two new recruits.
As you might expect, these ladies turn out to be every bit as unhinged/amoral as pretty much every other Supe that's been part of the team, but one, in particular, might be the most dangerous of all: The smartest person in the world, Sister Sage (Susan Heyward).
"It's such a funny power," showrunner Eric Kripke says of the scheming Supe in a recent interview with EW. "A lot of superhero worlds have that character. Whereas most of them are usually really reedy white dudes,...

DC Studios is developing Booster Gold as a TV series for Max. While rumours of production beginning imminently appear to be incorrect, it seems casting may be heating up as the Dcu readies itself for a superhero unlike any other.
In the comics, Mike Carter was a college football star in the 25th Century who ruined his career by wagering money on his own games. Forced to take a job as a security guard in the Metropolis Space Museum, he stole future tech to travel back in time and become a "superhero" (all while hoping to monetise being a good guy).
He'd later become a genuine time-travelling superhero and is a character who might be a game-changer for the Dcu. While casting such a complex character won't be easy, we have some suggestions which could do Booster justice both on streaming and in theaters.

Eric Kripke’s The Boys is one of the most violent and unhinged TV shows ever to be made. From the infamous Termite scene to Homelander being a murderous maniac, there have been several moments throughout the three seasons of the show that will make the audience gasp out loud and possibly cleanse their eyes.

Antony Starr is perhaps the face of morally complex characters in today’s day and age. From The Boys to Banshee, complexity is something he carries in front of the camera like no one else. The darkness within a character takes a great amount of skill to exude and that is something the actor excels at. The patience and dedication it takes is what fans appreciate wholeheartedly.

While Starr isn’t typecasted in the role of a character battling his inner self through the darkness within him, there is no doubt that he plays the part perfectly. He may not be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC Universe yet but he has shown through Homelander that a role in the franchises wouldn’t be an opportunity anyone would regret. As such, the possibility may be nigh.
