Back in March, we learned that playwright turned feature scribe Ana Nogueira had been tapped to pen the Teen Titans screenplay after impressing studio bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran with her work on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Nogueira was quietly hired to pen a Supergirl movie for Warner Bros. when the studio was developing a Sasha Calle-led The Flash spin-off. The Scarlet Speedster’s solo outing was in post-production at the time but the project was scrapped when Gunn and Safran took charge of DC Studios and moved on from Walter Hamada’s planned Dceu slate.
DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has just been asked on Threads about rumours Teen Titans will begin shooting in late 2024. The Superman helmer has yet to confirm the project is in development and responded with "No" when the question about that start date was put to him.

James Wan's recent sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, marked the end of what came to be known as the Dceu era, and as we head towards James Gunn and Peter Safran's Dcu relaunch, we've decided to rank all 15 movies in the franchise.
Warner Bros.' attempt to establish a shared movie universe in the same vein as The MCU began with Man of Steel in 2013, and despite some bright spots and box office successes along the way, most would agree that it never really took flight - at least not to the level DC fans were hoping for.
Things appeared to turn a corner with Wonder Woman, which led to a lot more optimism for the future of the Dceu overall. Of course, a lot of fans still felt that things were better when Zack Snyder was in the picture, and the positive reaction to the "Snyder...

The best days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are behind it, and I don't just mean the fall from its decade-long box office throne. Any media that reaches pop culture omnipresence like Marvel movies did inspires a counterwave of backlash -- it's just the way the discourse flows. And with the MCU, there's a lot to critique.
There's shoddy filmmaking, the centering of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige as the creative glue, the cheap self-deprecating humor that's spread its roots across Hollywood (e.g. Netflix's live-action "Cowboy Bebop"), and the aimless, complicated-yet-simplistic narrative that exists in service of nothing but its further propagation. That last issue is inherited from Marvel Comics, yet if you dive into current Marvel comics, you'll find one all-too-aware series that is weaving MCU critique into its (meta)text. That series is Al Ewing's "Immortal Thor".

Martin Scorsese’s war with Marvel seems to be over as filmmaker George Lucas recently revealed that the director might have eased his opinions about the MCU. The Departed filmmaker came under fire back in 2019 when he compared Marvel with theme park rides and said that they were not cinema, sparking controversy and a bunch of memes.
While the filmmaker was commenting on the lack of originality in Hollywood and how the only films getting made were superhero films, many fans took issue with him insulting their beloved franchise. However, the director seemed to have calmed down about the issue, according to George Lucas.

Nathan Fillion thought Ant-Man was a low-rung superhero before he saw Paul Rudd carrying the role easily. He was surprised when Rudd made the character almost endearing to him. Earlier it was rumored that Fillion was considered for the Ant-Man role. The rumors started after Joss Whedon directed The Avengers, as he and the director had worked together on Firefly.

When Paul Rudd debuted as Ant-Man, he quickly made the pint-sized hero one of the most popular characters in Marvel. His take on the character even impressed Nathan Fillion, who didn’t have the highest opinion on Ant-Man at first.
What Nathan Fillion thought of Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man Nathan Fillion | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Fillion considered himself a fan of superhero films, and starred in his own fair share of crime-fighting flicks. He was known for voicing Green Lantern on a couple of animated DC projects. He also had a role in the James Gunn original superhero movie Super.
In a resurfaced interview with the Advocate, while expressing his own desire to play superhero films, Fillion discussed his love of Marvel films. He was particularly surprised by the Marvel film Ant-Man, with Rudd playing the titular character. Fillion thought Rudd helped make a character he considered silly at first look quite endearing.

American films and television invariably brush up against the issue of language. Since these stories are made for mass appeal — and said mass is English-speaking audiences — the films will depict characters speaking English even if that shouldn't be the case. Take films set during Roman times like "Spartacus" or "Gladiator," which have dialogue spoken only in English, not Latin or even a closer modern stand-in like Italian.
Then there are films with characters from different countries, yet the audience hears them all speaking the same tongue. Some handle this more cleverly than others; in "The Hunt for Red October," the Soviet characters are first heard speaking Russian before a quick switch to English -- letting the audience know while they're hearing English, the characters are hearing Russian.
"Shōgun," which recently went from mini-series to a two-season renewal, makes no attempt to hold its audience's hand. Set in 1600 Japan, Lord Yoshii...

Actor Nathan Fillion has been the lead in several hit shows, with one of his most popular projects being Firefly. The show has been canceled for years, and yet Fillion is still recognized by the series to this day. However, he also starred in the hit series Castle, attracting a new legion of fans. But which one does he think brought him the most popularity?

It’s easy to see why Fillion would be recognized for Castle. The show was a hit on the network series ABC during its original run. During his DC reign, Zack Snyder’s rather abrupt departure left many questioning if he’d ever return. Despite whispers of unfinished business, Snyder declared that the chapter was closed. Yet, amidst the uncertainty, it seems that one thread persists, the siren call of The Dark Knight Returns. The tale resonates with Snyder so much that he is ready to jump back in to adapt this to the big screens if DC ever calls him up.

Though Snyder remains adamant that the chapter is done for, there’s a glimmer of possibility. Should his dear friend James Gunn extend an offer, particularly one involving the adaptation of Frank Miller’s iconic work, Snyder might just find himself drawn back into the fold, ready to reignite the Bat-signal once more.

When television science fiction works, it can change us. However, lasting long enough to make an impact is a hell of a trick. "Star Trek," the keystone franchise for multiple generations of fans and scientists, fought for its survival more than once. In the end, the original, larger than life phenomena lasted only three seasons. In a similar vein, "Babylon 5" remains a quieter but no less impactful series for modern science fiction fans, with the "Lord of the Rings" inspired space opera struggling every year since the poorly reviews first season for more time to finish its planned five year arc -- and a reboot from its original creator is still going through similar trials.
The problem is that good science fiction is always experimental, almost always more expensive than dramas or safe sitcoms, and it relies on an audience hanging in long enough for the plot to really hit its stride.

Okay, the big Summer blockbusters are coming in “hot”, but there’s no reason for the offbeat “indies” to sit on the sidelines till the Fall. At least that must be the intent of the fine folks at A24, who are still basking in the box office of their biggest hit, Civil War. Ah, but this one is a true “test” for the studio’s fervent fans. It’s a truly “out there” ode to several small screen touchstones for ” 90’s kids”. In fact, you could probably have an interesting game of “checking off” winks and nods to some “cult faves”. Oh, but there’s much more happening in this exploration of suburban teen life as its young hero seems to be energized by the tube’s warmth as he swears that I Saw The TV Glow.

Actor Nathan Fillion got his breakthrough role in the cult classic Firefly. The series was similar to one of many shows featuring a space crew traveling to different planets, including Star Trek. But Fillion felt Firefly differed from the likes of Star Trek in a pretty grounded way.
How Nathan Fillion felt about ‘Firefly’ comparisons with ‘Star Trek’ Nathan Fillion | Michael Ansell/Getty Images
On the surface, Star Trek and Firefly might look similar enough without any context. But beyond their premises of space crews exploring the galaxy, they couldn’t have been anymore different. Star Trek often features an altruistic space crew trying to influence the galaxy for the better. Firefly, however, was about individual characters with often vastly different views coming together and simply trying to get by.

When Marvel released The Avengers in 2012, it was viewed as a risky gamble. Although it is now relatively simple for the MCU to release a big movie starring a large cast of A-list actors, the studio set a new precedent with The Avengers. While the MCU has done well at replicating that success, no other studio seems to have come close.
Even with the film’s phenomenal success and intriguing financial flow, it is still surprising that most people are ignorant of certain facts about it. 2012’s The Avengers is widely regarded as one of the best movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, perfect just the way it is. But little do fans know that the film wasn’t always supposed to unfold the way it did. In fact, this version only reached fans because of Robert Downey Jr., their favorite Oscar winner and former Tony Stark portrayer.
The Avengers (2012).

You know what the most important thing about a good TV show is? The ability to watch it from start to finish. And that doesn't always happen – just ask fans of The Santa Clarita Diet, The Great, or The Oa.

In 2002, one of the biggest cancellations in television history occurred: Fox canceled Joss Whedon's Firefly. It's hard to describe the shock and anger of the fan community.

Henry Cavil's time in the DC Extended Universe abruptly ended after his widely celebrated return as Superman in Black Adam. DC Studios decided they didn't want him to stick around as the Man of Steel, and David Corenswet was cast as his replacement.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." was a changed show in its second season. In its early days, the Marvel Television series suffered from an identity crisis. Season 1 started out trying to emulate co-creator Joss Whedon's previous work, yet it played as a pale imitation of shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and especially "Firefly," following a ragtag team of misfits on weekly adventures in their flying home base. However, the one-two combo punch of Whedon stepping away from the series and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" blowing up the Marvel Cinematic Universe's status quo near the end of season 1 proved to be just the creative boost the show needed.
Upon returning for season 2, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." had gained a newfound confidence. Its characters began to take on greater dimensions, it really embraced the idea of being a show about everyday people trying to keep the world safe, and it even started...

Thor: Love and Thunder had all the makings of the best Marvel Studios movie ever. Heavily inspired by Jason Aaron's Thor run and featuring both The Mighty Thor and Gorr the God Butcher, the sequel has a lot going for it.
Among those plus points was Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. He'd successfully reinvented the God of Thunder in that 2017 blockbuster and fans were excited to see what came next. Unfortunately, the result was a movie which largely disappointed fans and let down both its new and returning characters.
Waititi, who was given perhaps too much freedom with Thor: Love and Thunder, has largely shrugged off the complaints. Chris Hemsworth, however, has addressed them head-on and doesn't shy away from acknowledging where the movie fell short.
Talking to Vanity Fair, the Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga star made it clear he still hasn't forgiven himself. "I got caught...

Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a strange time for the franchise. The post-"Avengers: Endgame" era saw Kevin Feige and co. trying to shepherd the concept of the multiverse into our collective consciousness while simultaneously introducing a host of new heroes and somewhat reinventing the MCU for a new generation. Much of it worked well, with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" holding things down on the cinematic front. Meanwhile, "WandaVision" and "Hawkeye" made a good case for the McU's streaming age being a good development — a case that was later ruined by the poorly-reviewed "Secret Invasion."
But for every good entry in Phase 4, there was a "Thor: Love and Thunder" or a "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" to undermine them. Thankfully, Phase 4 will always remain beloved for introducing us to one of the best arguments for the MCU expanding into the world of streaming television: "Loki.

Mark Ruffalo, who replaced Edward Norton by taking over as Hulk in the MCU, has been very candid about the recasting of the Marvel superhero. Norton starred in the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk. However, the studio decided to recast the character for future projects reportedly due to creative differences with Norton, alleging that they sought an actor who could blend well with The Avengers ensemble cast.

And the studio decided to move ahead with Ruffalo, who made his MCU debut with the 2012 film. However, after landing the role, he did reach out to the Fight Club star to discuss the transition and shared that Norton offered his full support for his future in the superhero franchise.

If you watched TV shows in the late 90s and early 2000s, you will remember that most popular shows did not focus on a consistent plot. Each episode told its own arc and there was no need to know the characters’ backstory.
It was a pretty smart move: a person could jump into the show at any time. However, one series changed the way the TV projects were made – Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Today, Fewer and Fewer Viewers Remember Buffy
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is Joss Whedon's cult series about a high school girl who leads a double life. During the day she studies and spends time with her friends Xander and Willow, and at night she goes out into the abandoned streets of the city and the cemetery to kill demons.
Today, only hardcore fans in their 30s seem to remember Buffy, despite the show’s cult status.

It's no secret to any horror buff that the genre's greatest offerings aren't always defined by critical prestige. But when it comes to horror television, the uphill battle that new shows face to overcome skepticism and garner positive reviews is even steeper. This is aptly demonstrated by the TV landscape of the '90s, in which writers and directors galvanized the medium by venturing into as-yet-unexplored depths of scariness, violence, and production value. However, creators weren't always able to translate that broadening of horizons into favorable critical notes.
Sure, it was the decade of "Twin Peaks," "The X-Files," Stephen King's "It," and all the bold new offerings for which such beloved programs paved the way by evidencing audiences' appetite for serious, well-made horror TV. But it was also the decade of a vast number of critical flops, which have been either largely forgotten or marred by extremely negative reputations...

Marvel has decided to tease its fan base with the revival of a nostalgic show titled, X-Men ’97. The original show ran for five seasons, from 1982 to 1997, and it has become a massive hit among the original fans of the mutant franchise. The rebooted series continues from where the previous show had ended 27 years ago.
Professor X and Lilandra in X-Men ’97
Needless to say, the show managed to grab the attention of the fans from the very first episode of the show. Thanks to the show’s self-containing creative narrative, and Beau DeMayo’s creative genius, that has brought the show to life. Now, new reports have emerged stating that Marvel is looking for a new writer to work on the reboot of the live-action mutant film, and fans have already decided the right candidate for the job.

Back when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. first started, events of the MCU were often referenced in the show, with Nick Fury even making a cameo appearance at the end of the first season. But as the show continued, it started to drift away from the main universe and by the time the seventh season concluded, it became a standalone narrative that had nothing to do with the MCU.

It was not common for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to dive into television-based content before Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Joss Whedon had a part to play in it. Stemming from the first Avengers movie, the show was an idea no one had explored before. It laid the foundation of what the franchise could do outside of just the big screen and its success was the hope that no one knew they really needed.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

[Editor’s Note: this list was originally published in November 2017. It has since been updated with Snyder’s further work to coincide with the release of “Rebel Moon — Part Two.”]
Zack Snyder is possibly the most polarizing mainstream filmmaker of the 21st century. His name alone is enough to launch a thousand angry tweets, and the most passionate writing about his work is exclusively found in the comment sections of websites or as social media replies. Snyder’s critics really seem to hate him, and Snyder’s fans really seem to hate his critics. At this point, a Marvel / DC movie crossover might be a lot more plausible than finding any sort of common ground between those two camps. Is Snyder a master or a hack? A misunderstood myth-maker, or a meathead with a movie camera?
One thing we can say for sure is that no contemporary auteur has more awesomely investigated what it means to be a hero in a fallen world. The Pasadena native...

Zack Snyder is a veteran director who has worked and created a plethora of iconic movies throughout his years in Hollywood. From 2004’s Dawn of the Dead to 2023’s Rebel Moon – Part One, Snyder has done it all.
During his time at the Dceu, Snyder left the production of Justice League to deal with some personal tragedy in his life. Talking about his abrupt departure and then completing it with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it was too much for the 300 director to handle at once.

Fillion initially didn’t know he’d be able to make a living from acting. In an interview with Closer, he confided that he saw acting as more of a side gig when he went to school. But getting an actual acting job that paid decently changed Fillion’s trajectory.
“I was going to finish off schooling and four months before graduation I got a job on a soap and moved to New York City. I did three years there, moved to Los Angeles on the advice of Bob Woods, who played my uncle on the show.

Unlike their golden run on the big screen till phase 3, Marvel didn’t quite replicate its huge success on the small screen, with most of the Disney Plus MCU shows earning less-than-stellar reception. While fans have complained about MCU’s recent catalog being bloated following the abundance of TV shows, Marvel has also abandoned an overwhelming number of TV shows over the years.
This involves several renowned superheroes, including a Captain Britain show, which was greenlit long before the rise of Disney Plus and MCU TV shows.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released in 2021, giving fans another look into the director’s unique vision for the Dceu. While fans thought there was a solid chance for an entire Justice League saga directed by Zack Snyder, nothing of the sort happened. Zack Snyder left, James Gunn and Peter Safran became in-charge, and the superhero universe was rebooted.

However, as things stand right now, coming to the Dcu is not the filmmaker’s priority. When James Gunn took over his role as co-chairman and co-ceo of DC Studios, he was instantly labeled as a “nepotist” due to giving preferential roles to his brother Sean Gunn. He also has a tendency to hire actors that he previously worked with in successful projects.
Sean Gunn, James’ brother is known for his portrayal of Kraglin Obfonteri in his brother’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s also been selected for various roles in the revamped DC Universe, the most major role being that of Maxwell Lord. This is something that Zachary Levi also commented on when ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ flopped and it was official that he won’t continue his tenure of playing the character in Gunn’s Dcu.

Kevin Feige and his team had big ambitions when they started the MCU back in 2008. The plan was to introduce key members of the Avengers including Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America in their solo films first to make audiences care about the characters. The solo storylines would ultimately culminate in a crossover film which became The Avengers in 2012.

The big risk paid off as the MCU’s Avengers team incredibly resonated with audiences. Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, The Hulk, and Hawkeye became the original 6 Avengers. The first Avengers film was inarguably a true masterpiece. With its star-studded cast and even more brilliant storyline, casting, and actors’ performances, the Joss Whedon-helmed film was perfection at its peak. But before it was finalized to hold all the elements that it did, the film almost took a different turn; one that could have brought about Zooey Deschanel’s Marvel debut.
2012’s The Avengers.
As surprising as it may seem, filmmaker Whedon almost had Deschanel debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the same role that later went on to Michelle Pfeiffer.
