Summer’s beginning was marked with lots of festivals, charity galas and Spider-Man’s return to blockbuster season, as stars of all sorts soaked up the sun, from Napa to Hollywood to the Caribbean Sea and beyond. Keanu Reeves returned to his old rock-star status at BottleRock Napa, strapping on his bass with Dogstar after 20+ years (and Lizzo knocked everyone out at that posh music/food/wine/brew fest); meanwhile, Kaley Cuoco’s “Based on a True Story” brought its mysterious fun to L.A.’s Pacific Design Center and Chateau Marmont and Sir Richard Branson set sail on the Summit at Sea in the Bahamas.

Title: A Birder’s Guide to Everything Director: Rob Meyer Starring: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alex Wolff, Katie Chang, Ben Kingsley, Michael Chen, James Le Gros, Daniela Lavender Films that honestly and entertainingly assay the early teenage experience removed from lowest-common-denominator gross-out shtick and other emotional cattle-prodding are few and far between, which is a big part of the reason that the altogether charming “A Birder’s Guide to Everything” feels like such a breath of fresh air. Instead of pandering to one and only one sentiment, this offering — poised pleasantly between quaint and quirky — does entirely right by adolescent feeling, while also leading viewers on an adventure that puts just enough spin [ Read More ]

Birds are fascinating creatures. This is true, but most people take birds for granted, so many of them flying about overhead. Birds are everywhere, and as creepy as that thought may be to some, they are always watching over us, constant spectators of the human experience below. Her on planet Earth, we go though life struggling primarily to answer two questions… who am i and what should I do with this life i have?
It’s no wonder there are some drawn in by a fascination for these feathered friends of ours. Those who watch, track and seek out birds of all species are generally referred to as “birders.” The term’s definition may be argued by some, including those in the film A Birder’S Guide To Everything. Directed and co-written by Rob Meyer, this film is a coming of age story about an awkward 15-year old boy named David Portnoy.

"Everything" covers a lot of ground, and Rob Meyer's coming-of-age dramedy A Birder's Guide to Everything has a slightly more modest scope.
High schooler David (Kodi Smit-McPhee) uses amateur ornithology to avoid the pressing emotional issues in his life, not least of which are his mixed feelings about the impending nuptials of his recently widowed father (James LeGros) and David's late mother's nurse (Daniela Lavender).
After taking a picture of what he thinks may be a duck species thought to be extinct since the late 1800s, and confirming with a famous ornithologist (Ben Kingsley) that the blurry picture could well be of the not-quite-dead duck in question, David sets off with his best friends and fellow birders Timmy (Alex Wolff, shorn of his excellent Hai...

David (Kodi Smit-McPhee) is a shy high school boy who is unable to accept the fact that his father (James Le Gros) is going to remarry, a mere year-and-a-half after his mother’s death. To make matters worse, his father is marrying the nurse (Daniela Lavender) who cared for his mother; so, not only does he believe that his father is moving on way too quickly, David is justifiably suspicious that his father may have been cheating on his ailing mother. Obviously a mama's boy, David does not seem to have developed any sort of relationship with his relatively clueless father. Still grieving from her passing, David has chosen to follow in his mother's footsteps -- as we later hear from a world-renowned birder (Ben Kingsley), David’s mother was an unsung hero of birding. David spends all of his free time birding, whether it be by himself or with...

David Portnoy (Kodi Smit-McPhee) may have spotted the extinct Labrador Duck. Sure, David’s only a 15-year-old birder and still reeling from his mother’s death over a year ago, but he needs to place his faith in something, so why not this extinct bird (although he will deny later in the film that the bird is a metaphor for anything). It also doesn’t help that his father (James LeGros) is about to marry Juliana (Daniela Lavender), who was David’s mother’s nurse no less. Thus it is understandable that David wants to evade the wedding to track down the supposedly extinct duck.

Ben Kingsley might not have been nominated for any awards at the Golden Globes tonight, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t enjoy the ceremonies. Particularly the events going on in the general vicinity of his lap. Twitter blew up during tonight’s broadcast after the cameras caught the Hugo star being used as an Academy-Award winning chair by a lovely younger woman. In case you’re wondering, the lady in question was in fact Sir Kingsley’s wife, actress Daniela Lavender, not some extremely confused yet enthusiastic seat filler. Either way, it’s sort of weird to see Gandhi enjoying some lap shenanigans, right? Does it help if we remind you that he was also in The Love Guru? Dear god, we just made it so much worst.

Last night saw the great and the good of the games industry; notable public figures and Blue attend the Game British Academy Video Game Awards to celebrate what appears to have been a fine year for gaming. As guests arrived, the assembled media, including Blogomatic3000, were ready to catch titbits of information from the glamorous celebrities. Here is what we learned…

You know, I can’t tell if Zach LeBeau’s “The Scientist” is a horror movie dressed up as sci-fi, or a drama dressed up as sci-fi, or if it is indeed a sci-fi concoction. Regardless of what it truly is, the trailer and clip (via Apple) have intrigued me. LeBeau has a pretty interesting resume himself. According to IMDb, “The Scientist” is his feature-film debut, but before that he was an actor on a couple of “Star Trek: Voyager” episodes. The Scientist follows a brilliant physicist, Dr. Marcus Ryan (Bill Sage), who anguishes over the tragic death of his wife and daughter while secretly constructing a mysterious energy generator in his basement. The multi—dimensional energy unleashed by the machine triggers a series of events that propels Ryan toward a higher level of consciousness. Starring Bill Sage, Adam LeFevre, Jamie Elman, Brittany Benjamin, Daniela Lavender, and directed by Zach LeBeau.

There has been lots of speculation and talk about Oscar winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley’s film Taj. Sir Kingsley will be playing the role of Shah Jahan in the English language movie for his home banner Sbk. One of the main questions everyone wants to know is who will be his Mumtaz. Well, we don’t know that yet, but we do know who will be playing Shah Jahan's first wife Princess Kanadahari Begum. It is none other than Ben Kingsley's wife Daniela Lavender.
Daniela Lavender, a critically acclaimed and award winning actress has worked on stage and screen both big and small. Besides her roles on television in the EastEnders and Manchild, she has been most recently seen in the film Precious, as well as the British Shakespeare Company's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. This will be the first time the two have appeared together on screen.

Shooting is scheduled to start in July, primarily in the Indian city of Agra, where the Taj Mahal is located. The film is expected to release in 2011.
The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan ruled India in the 17th century. His third and favorite wife, Mumtaz, died giving birth to her 14th child, and the devastated emperor spent the next 20 years building her tomb, which is regarded as one of the architectural wonders of the world. Oscar-winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley is engaged to be married for the fourth time, to 32-year-old actress Daniela Barbosa. Kingsley, 63, first unveiled Barbosa at a Hollywood premiere last January, just three months after he divorced his third wife, German aristocrat Alexandra Christmann. That marriage ended when the Gandhi star discovered pictures of Christmann with another man on the internet - but the experience hasn't put him off marrying again. Kingsley says, "I'm very happy. Marriage is going to happen. But I don't know when, I call her my fiancee because she is." Barbosa - who uses the acting name Daniela Lavender - has only made fleeting film and TV appearances. Her most high-profile acting role to date was as a maid in Sacha Baron Cohen film Ali G Indahouse.
