New CBS sitcom 9Jkl is a family show — literally. The series is produced by a husband and wife team, writer Dana Klein and star Mark Feuerstein, and is inspired by Feuerstein’s real-life experience temporarily living next door to his parents as an adult. “This show is loosely based on the time I was in New York shooting the show Royal Pains, and my parents kindly allowed me to stay in the apartment next to them,” Feuerstein said during the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour. No “Bull,” CBS wants you to know that the freshman Michael Weatherly series is actually the No. 1 new show of the year in total viewers, over NBC’s lauded “This Is Us.”
“We congratulate them on their success, but we like winning,” CBS senior exec VP Kelly Kahl said. He also pointed out that even CBS’ “Blue Bloods” has a larger audience than any other drama on the other networks, except “This Is Us.”
“The Big Bang Theory” is the “Wayne Gretzky of comedy,” he noted, arguing that no other half-hour comes close in total viewers, which is why they’re big on spinoff entry “Young Sheldon.” The show was recently renewed for two more seasons, a negotiation that Moonves characterized as amicable.
He also said he “hoped” that the show will continue even beyond that. “We’ll do these two years and we’re not going to just lay down,...

First and foremost: Chesley Sullenberger did extraordinary work in landing Us Airways flight 1549 in the Hudson River, and every single person involved in the rescue efforts that day deserves the highest possible praise for how they handled things. Every single passenger and crew member aboard survived, and that is to be celebrated, certainly. But as a film? I can imagine all of the good impulses that went into the decision to make Sully, but none of that matters when the film is as resolutely limp as this one. Clint Eastwood often works in a minor key, which is one of the things I like most about him as a filmmaker. He has always been interested in the understated, and Sully is certainly that. The danger is that you can be so understated that it becomes inert, and in the case of Sully, I don’t get the entire thing. I...

Grint would play Rupert, a low-level New York office drone obsessed with Imperial City, a comic book series his father created before his death. Rupert has spent his whole life believing he owned all nine issues.
But when a mysterious comic book collector reveals the existence of a tenth, he discovers that the world of Imperial City is real, and he is the one person who can save it.
Horta penned the project, inspired by an idea by Kaplan, and it was developed as a vehicle for Grint who is a big comic book fan. The project has received a put pilot commitment by the network.

On the heels of their collaboration last year for the musical Annie, Jay Z and Will Smith are teaming up once again: They've signed on to executive-produce a mini-series about Emmett Till for HBO. In 1955, 14-year-old Till was lynched by a white mob in Mississippi in what's known as one of America's most brutal hate crimes. His mother famously had an open-casket funeral for her son so that newspapers would print photos of the gruesome nature of Till's attack. Till's killers were acquitted but later confessed to murdering the teen. Smith and Jay Z, along with Jay Brown, James Lassiter, and Aaron Kaplan, will bring "an immersive and in depth exploration" of Till's story to HBO for what's expected to be a six-hour series. So far the mini-series is untitled and has no writers onboard. Also in the works are two competing Emmett Till movies: one spearheaded by Roger...

The first and most important thing that happened as a result of the staging of "Sticks and Stones" at the Met Theater as part of the Act One Festival was that Scott Swan and I got our first agent. Barbara Baruch worked for Ambrosio/Mortimer, a smaller boutique agency at the time, and from the moment we met her, she seemed like what I imagined an agent to be. She was nurturing, she was a cheerleader, she was a ballbuster, and she was always, always, always in our corner. Our time with her was unfortunately too short, and by the time the agency imploded in accusations of embezzlement, we were already repped by Gersh out of New York. Barbara was first, though, and she was the first one to start pushing people to come see our show and to read our work. The strangest thing about those early days is...

Juliette Lewis plays the detective digging for the truth surrounding the murder. It all represents a tall order if you’re Phillippe, especially when you appear in every scene of the series.
