Santa Claus is and will always be the face of Yuletide. He’s an old, polite, white-bearded man who gives everyone gifts; what’s not to love there? So, it is safe to say no one can replace the good old Santa Claus. However, there are some Christmas figures that do not nearly get as much love from the world as Santa, despite being as interesting, if not more, than Father Christmas. One such character is Jack Frost.
While technically not a ‘Christmas figure,’ Jack Frost has always been associated with the festival. He’s essentially the face of winter, the personification of cold, and the guy who gives everyone the frosty fingers and snowed-in days. The first recorded mention of Jack Frost in literature was in 1734 in a book called “Round About Our Coal Fire, or Christmas Entertainments.”

After Thanksgiving, my mind begins to wander. I start dreaming of all of the exciting things that the coming weeks will bring. Specifically, diving into all of my Christmas horror favorites. It’s time for Black Christmas(s)! It’s time for Silent Night Deadly Night! It’s time for Krampus! Food, gifts, family and merriment are great, but as I’ve explained before, all of that stuff hasn’t been hitting me in the same way recently. Horror movies have really stepped up to fill that gap and allow me to enjoy the holiday on my own terms.
Over the past few years, another film has joined my list and if I’m being honest, has become one of my most anticipated watches every December. The immortal classic, Jack Frost. I was first introduced to it on The Last Drive-In in 2019 and it became an immediate favorite. The ridiculousness...

After receiving a pilot production commitment in September 2021, the Justin Hartley-fronted drama The Never Game has finally been given a pilot order at CBS. According to Deadline, the pilot had been targeted for the off-season due to Hartley’s commitment to the final season of This Is Us. The project, which is based on Jeffery Deaver’s novel, was sold last fall with Michael Cooney attached as writer. However, as Deadline reported, Cooney was recently replaced by author Ben Winters, who delivered his script to CBS last week and saw the project put on a fast track for a pilot pickup. The Never Game revolves around Hartley’s Colter Shaw, a lone-wolf survivalist who travels the country as a “reward seeker,” using his expert tracking skills to help citizens and law enforcement to solve all manner of mysteries and crimes. At the same time, Shaw has to deal with his own fractured family.

It’s pilot season in July! The lasting impact of the pandemic on the traditional broadcast pilot cycle continues to be felt as production and pickup decisions on a sizable number of broadcast pilots has shifted off-cycle. ABC and NBC have five and six off-cycle pilots this year, respectively, while CBS has a decision to make on a project with a pilot production commitment, and Fox is eying more script-to-series orders. As usual, information is scarce and not always reliable early on but here is what I am hearing about various pilots. Keep in mind that not all projects are on the same timetable so if they are not mentioned, that could mean that there is not enough feedback on them yet. I hear NBC is ahead of ABC in the pilot evaluation process and may start making pickup decisions as early as this week. The networks have a little...

Donald Trump vs. Starbucks' War on Christmas. The War on Christmas: The movies that come to mind We're still in November, but the War on Christmas – according to online buzz, a second cousin once removed of the War on Cops – has begun. Weeping and gritting of teeth has seized certain population segments in the U.S.A. (and perhaps other countries as well) after Fox News, that beacon of intellectual freedom at the end of the cable news tunnel, announced that … Starbucks' holiday season cups are a) red b) devoid of Christmas decorations. Could it be a satanic conspiracy disguised as politically correct inclusiveness? The result of a communist takeover at the Seattle-headquartered company? Cruel and unusual Christian persecution in the form of paper cups? Your guess is as good as mine. Far-right Republican icon, U.S. presidential candidate, and 2015 political circus ringmaster Donald Trump seems to think that Starbucks...

Cinelinx is totally freaked out by the new 6 Souls Blu-ray!
The Set-up
A psychologist (Julianne Moore) crosses the line into the surreal when she meets Adam (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), a man with multiple personalities, who is not all that he appears to be.
Directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein
The Delivery
6 Souls is an odd but entertaining scarefest from the producers of The Ring and starring Oscar nominee Julianne Moore and Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers. It is written by Michael Cooney (who also wrote the excellent yet similar Identity) and is directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein.
Moore plays Dr. Cara Harding, a practically-mided criminal psychologist who doesn't buy into radical theories and notions, including those of her father (Jeffrey DeMunn, The Walking Dead), also a criminal psychologist. She finds her personal beliefs turned upside-down when he introduces her to Adam (Rhys Meyers), a patient who...

6 Souls is the latest straight-to-home-video horror film from Underworld: Awakening directors Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein. This long-delayed and title-changed horror mystery contains very little — if any real horror, aside from the actual thought of having to devote two hours of your life to something this mundane.
6 Souls is a painfully simple film that flat-lines before it ever really has the chance to get up off the ground. Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers give the film little support as they both struggle to stay awake long enough to read their lines. 6 Souls is just another empty thriller begging to be rented for a dollar the next time you visit your local grocery store’s Redbox kiosk.
Cara Harding (Julianne Moore) is a forensic psychiatrist that comes across a patient (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) with some sort of multiple personality disorder. His case is a unique one though, because his identities...

There's nothing worse than a supernatural thriller that has you mesmerized for the first two acts only to lose your respect in the last two. That's exactly how I felt when I pressed "Stop" after watching 6 Souls. All the warning signs for a movie that doesn't deliver were there. For instance, it was originally released in 2010 with a different title (Shelter) and just now is seeing the light of day.
Dr. Cara Harding (Julianne Moore) is introduced to a patient named Adam (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) who has multiple personalities. After researching some of them, she realizes they are all actual murder victims. Cara starts digging into the man's past to discover how or if his personalities all tie together somehow. Her investigations lead to encounters with the victim's relatives and mysterious religious fanatics.
Talk about a movie showing promise and then just falling off the deep end halfway through. 6 Souls...
