Featuring Sylvester Stallone in what sounds like a rare villain role, action thriller Alarum has just finished shooting. Scott Eastwood and Willa Fitzgerald also star.
The Shakespearian-sounding Alarum, an action thriller starring Sylvester Stallone, has just finished filming – and like Brad Anderson’s World-Breaker, is another mid-budget genre film looking for distribution at Cannes this week.
Directed by Michael Polish (Terror On The Prairie), Alarum appears to have cast Stallone in a rare villain role. To the best of our recollection, the only other time Sly’s played an antagonist was in Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over in 2003.
Alarum’s leads are Scott Eastwood and Willa Fitzgerald, who play a pair of professional assassins who are off on a romantic break when they find themselves pursued by murderous CIA agents – the scariest of them played by Stallone.

The Machinist director Brad Anderson’s sci-fi monster movie World-Breaker has just finished filming, and stars Luke Evans and Milla Jovovich.
Everything was so topsy-turvy during those 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes that when World-Breaker was announced last October, the production had a cast in place but wasn’t allowed to reveal who was starring. Months later, it’s been announced that Luke Evans and Milla Jovovich are the leads in the sci-fi monster film from director Brad Anderson.
Filming recently ended in Northern Ireland, and The Hollywood Reporter has the story that Signature Entertainment will distribute the film in the UK and Ireland. The news emerges as the Cannes Film Festival begins in earnest; production company The Exchange is hoping to find buyers for World-Breaker’s international and US rights at the festival’s busy market.

Restarted negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers that could mean an end to the actors strike have raised hopes for this year’s American Film Market, which runs Oct. 31-Nov, 5 in Santa Monica. What everyone is hoping for is, in the words of one leading indie producer, that “we can all get back to business.”

George A. Romero, horror legend and father of the modern zombie movie, passed away in 2017. At the time of his death, he was developing the next installment in his "Dead" series: a film called "Twilight of the Dead," for which he had written a treatment with journalist and film critic Paolo Zelati. In 2021, we learned that "Twilight of the Dead" was in active development, with Romero's widow, Suzanne Romero, meeting with filmmakers to find the right director for what is being billed as George Romero's "final zombie movie."
Now, the filmmaker who will take on that daunting duty has been found. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Anderson will direct the movie from a script co-written by Zelati, Joe Knetter, and Robert Lucas. Anderson's previous directing credits are primarily horror movies and psychological thrillers, with his best-known work being a combination of the two genres: "Session 9," a...

Back in 2021, it was revealed that the legendary George A. Romero (who passed away in 2017) had left behind a treatment for the “seventh and final installment” in his Dead franchise – following Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead. The story Romero had come up with used a title than many fans expected him to use for his follow-up to Day, Twilight of the Dead, and the team of Joe Knetter, Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati, who also worked on the treatment with Romero, were working on fleshing it out into a screenplay. Last month, we heard that Twilight of the Dead had secured funding from Roundtable Entertainment. And now we know who’s going to direct the film: Session 9 director Brad Anderson!

Before he passed away in 2017, horror master George A. Everyone knows the story of Goldilocks and the three bears, wherein a girl isn't satisfied with the things she discovers until they're "just right." This concept has permeated a number of disparate fields, even making it into scientific circles where the "Goldilocks principle" is used as a measure of balance.
Apparently the "Goldilocks principle" applies to the Dark Knight, too. When it comes to portraying the superhero known as Batman, there seems to be a particular physique and shape that is, as Goldilocks would say, "just right." Hitting that physique, however, is easier said than done, as actor Christian Bale came to discover while attempting to mold his body in preparation for director Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins." Through a distinct amount of effort and a lot of trial and error, it took Bale more than one try to make himself into the Caped Crusader, leading to a minor crisis behind the scenes.

Founded in 1953, bought by Julio Fernández in 1987 and now run by his brother Carlos Fernandez and daughter Laura Fernández, Filmax is one of its biggest true-blue independent studios in Spain, involved in film and TV production, and movie distribution, international film and TV sales and exhibition.

Exclusive: Ahead of EFM, Capstone Global and Hammerstone Studios have shared a first-look image of Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman in Sympathy for the Devil, the upcoming psychological thriller from Yuval Adler (The Secrets We Keep).
Written by Luke Paradise (the upcoming Lost on a Mountain in Maine), the pic follows “The Driver” (Kinnaman), who finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse after being forced to drive a mysterious man, “The Passenger” (Cage). Blood is a horror film directed by Brad Anderson starring Michelle Monaghan.
A horror film in which, curiously, the acting is outstanding.
And this is not exactly good for the genre: don´t do much scarin’.
Movie Review Blood (2022)
Blood is a movie that, despite its title, does not cause an impact that it should in the retina of the viewer, at least for a (supposedly) horror film.
This is a good movie in all senses, from the technical level all the way to the development of the characters and the settings. It has rhythm and takes its time to do the presentations, in developing the feelings of the child and the dog correctly, but this development, which is kind of tiresome, will detract the horror from the fans who expect something a little more impacting, and above all, horrifying.
Blood, in this sense, is almost a realistic film with suspense.

Skeet Ulrich is one of the poster boys of the 90s, but he’s still out there making interesting films, and tackling complex characters. Blood is the epitome of this, and we had the pleasure in speaking to the actor to mark the film’s release. We talk about the unique, positive portrayal of the estranged father-role within the film, while Ulrich also talks about the genius of his director Brad Anderson. He talks also about the collaboration process with Michelle Monaghan, and we look back across his career as he also chats about the lasting legacy of Scream.
Watch the full interview with Skeet Ulrich here:
Synopsis
Jess, a separated and nurse who moves with her daughter and young son Owen back into her old farmhouse. Shortly after settling in, Owen is bitten by the dog, resulting in a mysterious infection from the bite.
Blood is available to watch now.

Genre films have often utilized the depiction of vampirism as a powerful metaphor for addiction, as seen in films like The Hunger (1983), The Addiction (19995), and Habit (1997). More recently, My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell It To (2020) used vampirism as a potent allegory not only for addiction, but also for people living with chronic illness and the toll it takes on their caregivers. In his new film Blood, written by Will Honley (Bloodline), director Brad Anderson adeptly blends motherhood, vampirism, and chronic illness, emphasized by the need for blood, to present a compelling story of a family torn apart.
Blood stars Michelle Monaghan as Jess, a caring nurse and mother, who is also a recovering addict going through a nasty divorce and a battle for custody of her children. Jess’ ex-husband, played by Skeet Ulrich, got the house, the babysitter, and a new baby, and is using Jess’ previous struggles...

Last week, we shared a clip from Session 9 (watch it Here) director Brad Anderson’s new horror film Blood that showed characters played by Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and Finlay Wojtak-Hissong (The Banana Splits Movie) getting attacked by a vicious dog. Now another clip from Blood has arrived online, and this one shows Monaghan’s character going to extreme lengths to help her son after that dog attack. You can watch the clip in the embed at the bottom of this article.
Scripted by Will Honley, Blood sees Monaghan taking on the role of Jess, a nurse and mother recently separated from her husband, who moves with her daughter Tyler and young son Owen back into her old farmhouse. Shortly after settling in, Owen’s dog escapes into the woods and returns days later, blood-soaked and rabid. When he attacks and bites Owen, the resulting infection from...

Vampirism has been treated as a metaphor for more prosaic addictions in movies before. In “Blood,” however, it’s one more hassle a recovering addict doesn’t need added to the burdens of her already discordant family life. Starring Michelle Monaghan as a mother just out of rehab whose young son gets bitten — then develops an insatiable appetite for the titular fluid — Brad Anderson’s film steers a middle course between dysfunctional domestic drama and supernatural horror. That balance doesn’t completely work. But solid performances and some strong, occasionally unpleasant content make this an involving if not entirely satisfying watch. Vertical Entertainment is releasing it to limited U.S. theaters this Friday, then On Demand platforms Jan. 31.
