James Gunn has advised Joe Manganiello to consider moving on from his role in the Dceu. The 47-year-old actor portrayed Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, making brief appearances in both Justice League and The Snyder Cut. He was also slated to star in Ben Affleck’s canceled Batman film.
Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke in Justice League
Apart from that, there were talks of a potential standalone Deathstroke movie, for which Manganiello even had a screenplay prepared. Despite DC Comics’ interest in the screenplay, Gunn suggested he let go of any potential plans for the character.
James Gunn Convinced Joe Manganiello to Move On from Deathstroke
With James Gunn rebooting the DC Universe with Chapter One: Gods & Monsters, the possibility for Joe Manganiello to reprise his role as Deathstroke has been less. However, the actor still had hopes for introducing an origin story for the DC villain.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Law & Order: Organized CrimeSeason 4 Episode 10 “Crossroads.”] The Organized Crime Control Bureau now has to mourn one of its own. Stabler’s (Christopher Meloni) latest undercover operation on Organized Crime has him looking into an organization moving heroin tied to his brother Joe’s (Michael Trotter) drug use. And in order to maintain his cover, Stabler can’t react—as a montage of moments from the season plays—when he’s ordered to bury the body of none other than Detective Sam Bashir (Abubakr Ali) after he went missing connected to the case. He leans on the fact that he was a Marine (his tattoo) to let his anger out and question Angus (Stephen Lang) about it. Angus claims they had nothing to do with his death. Later, Mama Boone (Lois Smith) asks Angus, “We’re just doing Red Coat’s doing now?” He says it’s part of the arrangement he made ...

The 50-year-old Oscar winner has worked with some of the greatest directors and delivered some critically and commercially successful flicks. However, he also has a fair share of flop films in his career. Interestingly, many of these projects even came after his highly successful, The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Dune 2 Star Timothee Chalamet Movies Ranked As Per Rotten Tomatoes. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Timothee Chalamet is being lauded for his fantastic performance in Denis Villeneuve’s epic saga Dune 2. The film was released in the theatres on Friday, and it’s a visual treat for moviegoers. The film is one of the top-rated ones across various platforms, but Chalamet, over his short career span, has given several high-rated films.
Chalamet won hearts with his lively performance as Willy Wonka in last year’s Wonka. It became his career’s highest-grossing film as a leading man. But it seems Dune 2 might take away that title soon. He is essaying the character of Paul Atreides, and his ascension in this part has been remarkably shown. Scroll below for more.
Timothee Chalamet’s character Paul seemed a bit lost in the first film but understood his purpose and became a leader in Dune 2.

Exclusive: Umbrelic Entertainment co-founders Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz are bringing back a new Anchor Bay Entertainment with an eye on genre films, undiscovered treasures, cult classics, and remastered catalog releases.
“We had an opportunity to take the name of a beloved genre film brand, one we feel a personal connection to, for our new company,” says Zambeck. “This is a new venture, unaffiliated with any previous incarnations. We aim to honor the history and spirit of the past as we look for interesting films that break the mold, and will be discovered by new generations for years to come.”
In Lionsgate’s acquisition of Starz in December 2016, the studio absorbed the North American branches of Anchor Bay Entertainment. The Anchor Bay Entertainment trademark was up for acquisition so Zambeck and Katz took the opportunity to acquire it. The new Anchor Bay Entertainment doesn’t include the previous label’s library.

An Avatar: The Way of Water star just confirmed his villain's return in 2025's Avatar 3 despite being believed to be dead in the sci-fi universe.
In James Cameron's original Avatar and Avatar 2, the Resources Development Administration (Rda) and its military mercenaries, led by Stephen Lang's Colonel Miles Quaritch, filled the role of the franchise's villains.
Despite losing to Jake Sully at the end of The Way of Water, Quaritch was left alive for a future comeback; and despite what fans first thought, he isn't the only one.

With only two films in James Cameron’s Avatar series since 2009, it is challenging to imagine the existence of five installments by 2031, let alone two more movies later. That’s right, folks. I said two more movies! According to James Cameron, he has ideas for Avatar 6 and Avatar 7, but there’s a twist. Instead of dedicating the remainder of his mortality to the effects-driven, money-printing franchise, he could pass the torch to another filmmaker.
Speaking with Collider about the Avatar franchise’s future, Cameron said, “We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point,” he said. “I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people.”

In all of Stephen King’s massive catalog, few works are as bleak as his 2010 novella collection Full Dark, No Stars. Rather than supernatural entities, these four dark tales feature human monsters and deal with the horrors that live inside the human heart. Two novellas serve as mirror images of each other, exploring the female response to predatory men. “Big Driver” follows cozy mystery writer Tess Thorne on a mission of revenge against the stranger who raped her and left her for dead. “A Good Marriage” centers Darcy Anderson, a happily married woman faced with a horrifying choice when she discovers her husband’s secret life.
Both novellas were faithfully adapted into feature films in the year 2014 – for better or worse. Premiering on Lifetime, Big Driver tackles King’s rape-revenge story with Maria Bello staring as the vigilante writer and Olympia Dukakis as her literary detective. Ann Dowd and Joan Jett...

In a multi-screen digital world, Google’s search world has become increasingly key to marketing movies to a worldwide audience — especially in the run-up to opening weekends.
With Barbie and Oppenheimer making waves at the multiplex last summer, Barbenheimer had an unsurprisingly ripple effect for both tentpoles — as they topped the Google Trends table for the most movie queries made worldwide in 2023.
Google Trends tracks user searches, including on YouTube where trailers impact movie picks for cinema-goers. Much depends on demographics and regional appeal, of course, as this year’s table for Google Trends was topped by movies as disparate as titles about an iconic Mattel doll movie, the father of the nuclear bomb and a child trafficking drama.
So, let’s dig deeper into Google’s global search results for the past year, which are revealed to have tracked pretty well in box office trends.

James Cameron has provided an update on Avatar 3, which he says is in ‘hectic’ post-production, and on track for release in late 2025.
Whatever you thought about last year’s Avatar: The Way Of Water, we can all at least agree that James Cameron delivered on the promise of its title. The sci-fantasy sequel sure had a lot of water in it.
Thankfully, the gap between The Way Of Water and its sequel will be much smaller than the 13-year expanse which separated the 2022 film from the original Avatar, which came out in 2009. In fact, the recent strikes that have caused all sorts of disruptions in Hollywood haven’t affected Avatar 3′s long-scheduled release in December 2025.
Speaking at a live event in New Zealand, Cameron confirmed that Avatar 3 is now in a “very hectic two years of post-production,” and will emerge at “Christmas of 2025.”

Cool Stuff: The Abyss, True Lies, And Aliens Are All Finally Getting 4K Digital And Blu-Ray Releases
The time has come! For years, fans have been waiting for director James Cameron to give "The Abyss" and "True Lies" proper high-definition releases. These two films from the "Terminator" and "Titanic" filmmaker's filmography have never been officially released on Blu-ray, let alone the higher definition 4K format. With the recent news of "The Abyss" getting a special edition 4K remaster in theaters this December, we figured that would change, and now we have the official news that's better than we could have hoped.
James Cameron's production banner Lightstorm Films has announced that "The Abyss" and "True Lies" are finally getting released in 4K Ultra HD. Basically, they're skipping right over the standard Blu-ray and getting 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc releases. But before that, both movies, along with Cameron's beloved sci-fi action sequel "Aliens," will be getting 4K releases on digital a few months before they hit physical media.

It’s been set to enter production in Los Angeles October 30, with additional filming to be done in Korea and AlUla, an ancient Saudi Arabia market city which was scouted through Film AlUla, the film agency of The Royal Commission.

Sometimes life is so absurd in its pain and unfairness that a girl’s just gotta sing — or at least rewrite the songs she’s hearing. It takes a while for Zelma, the scrappy main character of the droll and vibrant My Love Affair With Marriage, to reach the point where she’s calling the musical shots, figuratively speaking. It’s an exhilarating and hard-won moment when she does.
At key moments throughout the animated feature, which takes her from age 7 through her 20s, she’s bombarded with the song stylings of three Mythology Sirens, harmonizing scolds who take different forms, depending on the circumstances. They reinforce Zelma’s self-doubt and castigate her whenever she breaks or questions the old-school rules of the boy-girl game, the ones that say women must be submissive — “a smart woman looks weak” — and that only marriage makes them whole.

This is Day 83 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The language was salty but the mood was upbeat at a union rally in Midtown Manhattan by striking actors and their supporters from the 150,000-member Transportation Workers Union.
With talks between the actors union and the production studios paused until Wednesday, the crowd at SAG-AFTRA’s solidarity picket with the Twu filled two lanes of the street outside NBCUniversal headquarters and made a sometimes Nsfw din that could be heard for blocks.
Oscar-winning actor F. Murray Abraham, one of the rally speakers, dropped an F-bomb in remarks calling for all working Americans to receive a livable wage and health care. “And since our corrupt Congress won’t give that to us, we got a f*ckin’ union,” he said to cheers.
But it was Twu chief John Samuelson who really let fly, railing at “p*ick bosses” in a pugilistic speech that...

“Barbie” (Warner Bros.), the year’s biggest hit, had some competition its third week out on PVOD (for rent at $24.99), and it’s coming from within its own house.
“Blue Beetle,” from Warners’ DC Comics division, actually took #1 at Vudu — even more impressive since it ranks by revenue, putting the $19.99 “Beetle” at a disadvantage. It placed #3 at Google Play, which often is slower to note new releases. “Barbie” remains #1 at iTunes and Google Play.
Three other new titles debuted this week, led by “Gran Turismo” (Sony), as high as #2 at Vudu. Also at $19.99, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” (Focus) also placed on two charts. It’s #4 at Vudu after its third weekend in theaters.
“Muzzle” (Rlj), a direct-to-home release landed at #6 at iTunes at a $6.99 rental. Taking the “John Wick” plot about a man seeking revenge after his dog is killed, this stars Stephen Lang and Aaron Eckhardt.

For a franchise that’s spanned two decades, ten instalments and several peaks and troughs, it’s refreshing to find the latest entry, Saw X, a surprising highlight.
Set between the first and second films, Saw X reunites us with John Kramer (Tobin Bell), the sick, quiet, maniacal, death-trap constructor who is offered a new kind of experimental cancer treatment. The procedure goes wrong so Kramer sets out to build traps, right wrongs and seek revenge on those who failed him. To reveal more than that would ruin it a little but Saw X does much more than expected.
Once antagonist Kramer is twisted into an antihero, similar to what they did with Stephen Lang’s Blind Man in Don’t Breathe 2. Heightening his plight after being woefully wronged, to help viewers empathise and see his acts as he does: “helping people overcome their inner obstacles to make more positive...

Champion is best known for starring alongside Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang and more in Avatar: The Way of Water, James Cameron’s sequel to his groundbreaking 2009 sci-fi epic Avatar, which came in upon its December 2022 release as the third-highest-grossing film of all time.
The fast-rising talent proved a standout in his role as Miles “Spider” Socorro, the 16-year-old human son of the world-conquering Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), who bonds deeply with the human-turned-Na’vi Jake (Worthington), as well as his mate Neytiri (Saldaña) and their children while growing up on the extrasolar moon Pandora. An Emmy-nominated documentary cinematographer with credits including “Procession” and “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed,” Robert Kolodny puts his expert eye for shooting nonfiction to playful narrative use in his feature directing debut “The Featherweight.” A meticulously designed, gutsily played biopic of world champion featherweight boxer Guglielmo Papaleo, better known as Willie Pep — covering not his 1940s glory days but his faltering attempt at a comeback two decades later — the film is convincingly fashioned as a candid all-access documentary, a promotional puff piece curdling before our eyes into an unintended study of mental breakdown.
So convincingly, in fact, that uninformed viewers chancing upon “The Featherweight” on the festival circuit may wonder exactly what it is they’re watching, not least if — in a realization of Pep’s own glumly stated fears — they have no idea who this once-celebrated sportsman was. Kolodny puts nary a foot wrong in his precise replication...

After a long series of stops and starts within the depths of Hollywood, an "Uncharted" movie finally made its way into theaters in February of 2022. Based on the popular PlayStation video game series, news of a potential feature film was first announced in October of 2008 when Marvel producer Avi Arad began developing it for a big-screen adaptation. In 2010, David O. Russell was tapped to direct with Mark Wahlberg starring as the young treasure hunter Nathan Drake. Luckily, O. Russell decided to make "Silver Linings Playbook" instead.
By the time director Ruben Fleischer ("Venom") came on board, so much time had gone by that Wahlberg had actually aged out of the role. Instead, Wahlberg would wind up playing Sully, the seasoned adventurer and mentor to Nathan, a role that eventually went to "Spider-Man" phenom Tom Holland. There was even an "Uncharted" fan film made starring Nathan Fillion and Stephen Lang.

There’s a story that Willie Pep, the protagonist of Robert Kolodny’s feature debut The Featherweight, likes to tell. It’s about a match with a kid, who, so awed by the boxing champion, asks for an autograph. The request flummoxes Willie. “I say, ‘Kid, get away from me, we’re boxing tonight. What are people going to think?’” The crowd came to see a fight, he reminds the junior. They need to put on a show.
As Willie (played by James Madio) talks about this moment, he gesticulates and pulls his audience — a small group of friends — to play supporting roles. It’s clear why the boxer likes to recount this tale. Nostalgia tempts him. It directs his moods, prompts his long monologues and drives Willie, at age 42, to stage a comeback.
The Featherweight is a fictionalized account of the real-life two-time featherweight champion’s attempts to get back in the ring.

‘The Featherweight’ Review: Robert Kolodny’s Debut Film Is as Agile as Its Irrepressible Protagonist
When the English soccer star Harry Kane finally decided to leave his childhood club Tottenham Hotspur and the Premier League this summer, much of England was up in arms. In doing so, Kane appeared to sacrifice his realistic attempt at breaking the division’s all-time goalscoring record. A couple more seasons, pundits said, would have done the trick. Immortality, and certainly a statue, would have come.
What Kane knows, and what his critics appear not to, is what really motivates elite athletes: not stats, glory. The same lust drives Willie Pep (James Madio), the titular featherweight boxer in Robert Kolodny’s nifty debut feature. Aged 42, Pep plots a comeback, six years after hanging up his gloves. Virtually all those around him, including trainer Bill Gore (Stephen Lang) and business manager Bob Kaplan (Ron Livingston), say this is a terrible idea. That his 220-10 win record, unheard of in the sport before or since,...

If the "John Wick" films are any indication, action heroes could always use a little canine companionship. It just so happens that there's a long-standing aspect of law enforcement where the dog and human relationship is already built-in: The K-9 unit.
You've likely seen numerous buddy cop movies, and even a handful of K-9 films. However, those movies tend to lean heavily on the comedy aspects of man's best friend fighting bad guys. Witness the old Rin Tin Tin series, or the films "K-9" and "Turner & Hooch," for starters. Even last year's Channing Tatum vehicle with the world's most inspired title, "Dog," milked its military mutt more for melodrama than action.

"Fire me. I could care less." Rlje Films has unveiled an official trailer for Muzzle, a dog thriller starring Aaron Eckhart. This is the latest film directed by a filmmaker named John Stalberg Jr., who first made his mark with the stoner comedy High School back in 2010. How's this for a wild pitch: LAPD K-9 officer Jake Rosser and his K-9 partner Ace battle it out on the streets of LA when they get into a shootout with local gangsters and Ace is shot. In a moment of crisis, Jake assaults an Emt, resulting in him taking leave from the force. Blocked by Internal Affairs, muzzled by his own superiors from finding the shooter's identity, Jake resolves to go rogue and partners with “Socks”, a violent K-9 with titanium incisors and a mysterious past. Jake and Socks uncover a vast conspiracy that has a chokehold on the city,...

This is Day 115 of the WGA strike and Day 42 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
“I can’t believe I’m headlining this,” Tony Gilroy quipped Thursday as the last speaker at a Writers Guild picket in New York City honoring screenwriters. The Andor creator-writer and Bourne Legacy screenwriter followed three of his contemporaries — former WGA East President Beau Willimon, Mauricio Zacharias and James Hart — in delivering pep talks steeped in Hollywood labor history to more than 300 demonstrators outside Warner Bros. Disney and Netflix offices.
“We cannot be weak,” Gilroy told a picket line that also included actors John Turturro, Jamie Oliver, Stephen Lang and Michael Cyril Creighton. Staying strong was a theme of speeches coming after negotiations between the Writers Guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers appeared to collapse this week.

2023 Hamptons International Film Festival Announces Alex Gibney Doc Centerpiece, Todd Haynes Tribute
The 2023 Hamptons International Film Festival has officially unveiled its Centerpiece screening and special events lineup.
Alex Gibney’s “In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon” will be this year’s Centerpiece presentation, screening October 6. Prolific documentarian Gibney previously helmed Theranos doc “The Inventor” and “Restless Dreams” will be making its New York premiere at the East End festival.
Gibney spent three years on “In Restless Dreams” following musician Simon’s creation of new album “Seven Psalms.”
“In early 2021 amid the pandemic, Paul invited me to film him while he was making his most recent album, ‘Seven Psalms.’ Paul was losing his hearing in one ear, and it was a devastating time,” Gibney said in a press statement (via Deadline). “His tribulations in making that album about faith and mortality are the emotional heart of this story. Jarhead 2: Field of Fire feels like a parody of sorts initially. The opening monologue has a lot of profanity, which you wouldn’t usually hear in the kind of war movies that go to the Oscars. Given that it was released directly on VOD, it is understandable that this one wouldn’t have the seriousness or technical brilliance of Jarhead (2005), which was directed by none other than Sam Mendes, or that of any other iconic war movie like Saving Private Ryan (1998).
However, as it moves forward, the movie takes itself seriously and actually makes it a point to tell a story that has merit. The tonal shift is sort of abrupt, but there is plenty of action, and the story is quite easy to grasp. With its arrival, Jarhead 2 has received a new surge in popularity, which is understandable. I wouldn’t call it a good movie, but I...

For many playwrights, film and television work has historically served as a supplement to their income from the theater world. But in recent years, writers say, studios have begun to poke holes in that safety net, leaving some stage scribes as frustrated and angry as their screenwriting colleagues.
“TV really seemed like a way to have more stability, to be able to just have a middle-class life doing the thing I love, get health insurance, support my family,” 72 miles to go … playwright Hilary Bettis said Wednesday outside Netflix’s Union Square offices in New York. “And now it feels like the rug is being pulled out from under us.”

Released last fall, Lucky McKee’s “chamber thriller” Old Man had nothing to do with the Don’t Breathe films, despite starring Stephen Lang – who played the “Blind Man” in both Don’t Breathe and Don’t Breathe 2. But that didn’t stop the movie’s Russian distributor from marketing it as a prequel to those films! During an interview with Jb Hi-Fi, McKee laughed about the fact that his movie is part of the Don’t Breathe franchise, as far as Russia is concerned.
McKee said, “In Russia, they released it as Don’t Breathe: The Beginning. Kind of like the Italians used to do back in the day, with movies like Zombi 2.“
Sure enough, if you search the title Don’t Breathe: The Beginning, you’ll find confirmation that Old Man is a Don’t Breathe prequel in Russia.

The Writers Guild of America strike has been underway since May, but this July, SAG-AFTRA joined the chorus of Hollywood dissenters fed up with outmoded contracts with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Hollywood is now officially on strike, with production on nearly all AMPTP-associated film and television projects featuring SAG-AFTRA talent at a standstill — and actors are now taking to the picket lines in unity to voice their concerns over residuals, the threat of artificial intelligence, and challenging working conditions from meal breaks to long hours.
Now that SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP failed to achieve a deal on a new minimum bargaining agreement after SAG-AFTRA contracts expired July 12 — even after an initial extension — actors are on full work-stoppage orders. That means no participation in productions or promoting their SAG-AFTRA-certified work, past or present, and that includes press tours and red carpets and festival appearances. (More on...
