Despite becoming a box-office flop upon its release, Brad Pitt’s Fight Club has stood the test of time, becoming one of the most influential releases from David Fincher. However, its impact isn’t just limited to the viewers, as director Steven Caple Jr. too took inspiration from the action thriller for the 2023 Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
For his reimagination of the popular IP, the director filmmaker incorporated Pete Davidson into the feature, whose character took major inspiration from Pitt’s Tyler Durden.

While the 2009 sequel to the original Transformers failed on many fronts and committed the cardinal sequel sin of rehashing the ideas of the first movie, it still delivered with its visuals. Despite being 15 years old, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen still puts many modern blockbusters to shame following its impressive visuals and on-location action sequences.
This is prominent during the film’s opening, which is often deemed one of the most impressive scenes the franchise has to offer and we’ve Bay’s stubbornness to thank for it.
Michael Bay Opted to Shoot the Massive Sequence on the First Week of Filming
Although it’s common for filmmakers to start productions on a small note and gradually catch pace after growing familiar with the crew, Michael Bay isn’t any other filmmaker. Known for making everything extravagant and loud, Bay prefers to “start ’em hard and fast”, as according to him,...

Following Shia Labeouf’s departure from the Transformers franchise, Mark Wahlberg assumed the lead role in the sci-fi action series, appearing in two films within the franchise. The actor has shared that the reason he chose to do the movies was because of his kids, as he believed that these films would be less adult-oriented compared to his other projects, and would potentially capture his children’s interest.

However, the actor had to reconsider the idea of introducing his children to the films during their formative years due to the concern of them being exposed to inappropriate language.

Mark Wahlberg’s sci-fi action series Transformers wasn’t as adult-oriented as some of his other films. Still, the actor had second thoughts about exposing Wahlberg to the films in their formative years.

Wahlberg picked up where Labeouf left off with the Transformers franchise. The actor led the series in the commercially successful Transformers Age of Extinction, and also in its sequel The Last Knight. In an interview with CBS, Wahlberg asserted that the movie brought him back to his childhood years.

"Transformers" is a tricky thing to talk about. Your average moviegoer tends to enjoy the movies (at least up until 2017's "The Last Knight"), but people who use words like "cinema" and "art" when talking about movies kind of hate them. Things got better when Michael Bay finally vacated the director's chair, with 2018's "Bumblebee" ranking as easily the most acclaimed entry in the multi-billion-dollar franchise to date. Last year's "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" tried to keep that new magic going and did so with mixed results. But there is at least one scene in the film that stands a cut above the rest, reminding us of what this franchise can be in its best moments.
It is perhaps not surprising that arguably the best moment in director Steven Caple Jr.'s "Rise of the Beasts" involves Bumblebee. Everyone's favorite little yellow Autobot has been the secret sauce in...

"Transformers" has been a staple in pop culture for going on 40 years now. From the somewhat humble beginnings as a bunch of transforming toys turned popular cartoon series to eventually becoming a multi-billion-dollar film franchise, Optimus Prime and the gang have come a long way. Speaking of the movies, we now live in a world with seven live-action movies, as well as the animated one from the '80s, with even more on the way. That being the case, it might be a little tough for casual movie lovers to keep track of things. We're here to help.
We're going to go over the correct movie to watch the "Transformers" movies, either for those who simply want to watch them in the order they were released, or those who would prefer to watch them in chronological order. Either way, we've got you covered. We're also going to go over some...

The “Transformers” franchise returned to theaters in 2023 with “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” the latest installment in the big-screen, live-action adaptation of the beloved Hasbro toy line. “Rise of the Beasts,” which is the planned start of a new trilogy, is the seventh film in the series. Chronologically, it comes after “Bumblebee,” which was a prequel to the first five films in the series. This means you don’t technically have to watch or rewatch any of the Michael Bay-helmed movies before — but don’t you kind of want to anyway?
In case you forgot, Michael Bay was behind the camera for “Transformers” (2007), “Revenge of the Fallen” (2009), “Dark of the Moon” (2011), “Age of Extinction” (2014), and “The Last Knight” (2017). Travis Knight (“Kubo and the Two Strings”) took over for “Bumblebee” (2018) and Steven Caple Jr. (“Creed II”) stepped in for “Rise of the Beasts” (2023). For years, the live-action "Transformers" movie franchise's box office numbers appeared to have a reverse correlation with Rotten Tomatoes scores: the more scathing reviews a "Transformers" movie got, the more tickets it would sell. This was held up as proof that (depending on your perspective) either snooty film critics are out of touch with modern moviegoers, or modern moviegoers will watch any old trash as long as it's loud and action-heavy and has characters they recognize.
Neither of these conclusions are really fair. Director Michael Bay, for all his faults, does a great explosion and also perfected the art of the 360 spinning hero shot. Sometimes the world needs a loud movie with robots that will entertain kids who aren't really paying attention to the plot. And film critics can love trash just as much as the next person. Even The New Yorker, a publication so snooty that its mascot is...

Have you ever noticed Optimus Prime in Michael Bay's "Transformers" films isn't really all that heroic? To be fair, he doesn't start that way in Bay's original 2007 "Transformers" film. There, he tries to keep the fights between the Autobots and Decepticons away from densely-populated areas and, when that's not possible, makes an active effort to minimize casualties. Optimus even implores Sam Witwicky (Shia Labeouf) to place the AllSpark (ie. the film's MacGuffin) in his chest during the climax, knowing it will kill him but will also prevent his arch-nemesis Megatron and the other Decepticons from wreaking havoc on the universe.
Of course, Sam sticks the AllSpark in Megatron's chest to kill him instead, and Optimus and the Autobots return in the 2009 sequel, "Revenge of the Fallen," now working with humanity to hunt down the remaining Decepticons. By this point, however, Optimus has basically morphed into Judge Dredd, anointing himself judge,...

It was a battle of weeks old animated fare at this weekends box office but it looks like Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse was able to pull off the upset and reclaim the top spot after four weeks in theaters with an estimated $19.3 million. That number represents just a 29% decline from last weeks $27.8 million finish. As we have said before, super hero fatigue isn’t really an issue, it is just bad movie fatigue! Make something good and audiences will show up and show up they have to the tune of over $500 million worldwide.

Working as a break between blockbusters, this weekend featured no huge tent pole releases. That is good news and bad news for the movies that were released last weekend as it looks like Pixar’s Elemental and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse are battling it out for first place this weekend with an expected $18 million each. For Elemental that is welcome news after last weeks opening which saw the film become the second lowest opening ever for a Pixar movie If Elemental can hold on at its current pace, that will represent a sub 40% drop off which is really good in today’s opening weekend dominated market.
The bad news comes by way of The Flash as that film looks to take a substantial tumble in its second weekend which could lose as much as 75% of its audience with a $14 million weekend. I saw in the comments on our predictions post...

In a battle that came down to the wire, it appears that the autobots have the edge over the multiverse as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has emerged victorious over Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse in its inaugural weekend with an estimated $60.5 million against Spider-Man’s $55.4 million. Essentially in line with our predictions from Thursday (if we flip flop the titles as I thought Spider-Man would edge out Transformers.)
Chalk that up as a pretty big win for the Transformers franchise after the last Transformers film The Last Knight opened with just $44.6 million while the prequel spin off film BumbleBee opened with just $21.6 million. The difference maker for Beasts over Spider-Man seems to be the premium theaters that Transformers took over this week as it is reported (by Box Office Tracking company EntTelligence) that both films saw similar ticket sales for the weekend (4.3 million each). That extra $5-$10-$15 really adds up.

It looks like Paramount/Skydance’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” will stave off a challenge from Sony Animation’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” for the top box office spot, earning a $60.5 million opening weekend from 3,678 theaters.
Comparisons to recent “Transformers” installments aren’t exact, as “Transformers: The Last Knight” opened on a Wednesday and took in a $68.4 million 5-day opening with $44.6 million earned between Friday and Sunday. Globally, the film has earned a $170.5 million launch compared to $267 million for “The Last Knight,” a drop that can be largely attributed to China, where “Rise of the Beasts” opened to just $40 million compared to $125 million for “Last Knight,” continuing the trend of declining interest in Hollywood films among Chinese audiences.
But “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” is beating pre-release projections of a $50-55 million domestic opening, and insiders at Paramount say the studio sees these numbers as a good start as...

Spider-Man put up a good fight, but the Autobots came out on top.
After an unusually close box office battle, Paramount’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” pulled ahead of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” debuting in first place to $60.5 million from 3,678 theaters. Sony’s animated “Spider-Verse” sequel still managed a mighty second weekend, landing in second place with $55.4 million from 4,332 theaters.
Thanks to the better-than-expected turnouts for those films, box office returns from the first few weeks of summer (May 1 to June 11) are up 5% from 2022, according to Comscore. Analysts hope that popcorn season is able to stay strong as blockbuster-hopefuls like “The Flash” and Pixar’s “Elemental” join the fray in the coming days.
Initial ticket sales for “Rise of the Beasts,” which is the seventh installment in the live-action “Transformers” franchise, were notably better than the prior two entries, 2018’s “Bumblebee” ($21.6 million) and 2017’s “The Last Knight” ($44.68 million). It...

Autobots – roll out. The Transformers franchise has been a staple in pop-culture ever since their creation as toys back in the 1980s. However, the concept of massive living creatures turning into everyday machines and living secretly amongst humans was so compelling and unique that it warranted much more than just action figures. Followed by tv shows, graphic novels, and multiple spinoffs the Transformers universe quickly became one of the largest established I.P. in the history of media. And of course, that means Hollywood came knocking. But, not all entries have been great, as we’ll dig into with our Transformers Movies Ranked list!
Fans of the Transformers universe have been blessed with eight movies over the last four decades with the latest installment, Rise of the Beasts, having its worldwide premiere this weekend. Believe it or not, Rise of the Beasts is actually the first Transformers movie to drop...

The summer season has its first genuine battle for top of the heap, as “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” looks to fend off last week’s top release “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”
“Rise of the Beasts” put its foot on the gas with $25 million on its opening day, a figure that includes $8.8 million in Thursday previews. The film is projected to land near a $60 million opening through the three-day frame, which would land at the higher end of estimates heading into the weekend.
Once a box office juggernaut, Paramount has attempted to reengineer the “Transformers” franchise for future longevity. The first three entries, directed by Michael Bay, each crossed $300 million in North American grosses, while threequel “Dark of the Moon” and its follow-up “Age of Extinction” both surpassed $1 billion worldwide. But Bay’s final production, 2017’s “Transformers: The Last Knight,” saw diminished returns, finishing with $130 million stateside and $605 million worldwide...

It truly is a battle at the box office this weekend as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse are in a virtual dead heat for first place with both currently forecasted to finish around $58 million (per Deadline). That total comes after Transformers posted $8.8 million in preview screenings on its way to what as of right now looks to be a $25 million Friday total.
The big question will be how good or bad word of mouth is for this seventh live action Transformers movie as reviews for the film are lukewarm with our own Eric Walkuski giving the film a 6/10 in his review while the audience score is currently at an 89%, which is pretty solid, especially when the last two Transformer films(BumbleBee and The Last Knight) only boasted 74% and 43% respectively.

If it feels like every couple of years there’s a new “Transformers” movie, you wouldn’t be wrong.
Beginning with 2007’s “Transformers,” seven live-action movies have been released. The first five were directed by Michael Bay, who remained a producer on the two most recent films.
The first five films take place in present day, while the sixth film “Bumblebee” (the only film without “Transformers” in its title) is set in 1987. The upcoming film “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” is set in the ’90s, so it’s a sequel And a prequel.
Confused? Don’t be. We break down how to watch the live-action Transformers movies in order.

Paramount, Skydance and Hasbro’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” began its domestic box office sprint on Thursday with $8.8 million in preview screening grosses. That is on par with (sans inflation) the $8.8 million earned via Tuesday previews for “Transformers: The Last Knight” in June of 2017 and the $8.75 million Thursday preview gross of “Transformers: Age of Extinction” in 2014. “Bumblebee” nabbed $2.85 million in previews amid a holiday-season Wed-Sun debut in late 2018.
Pre-release projections pegged the film for a $50-$60 million opening weekend, and that’s what these Thursday grosses point toward.
A Thursday-to-weekend multiplier on par with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” ($118 million from a $17 million Thursday) and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” ($120 million/$17.4 million) gets it to $61 million. A more optimistic comparison to “Fast X” ($67 million/$7.5 million) or “John Wick: Chapter 4” ($73 million/$8.9 million) has it earning between $73 million and $78 million by Sunday night.

This weekend sees the release of the latest adventure in the Transformers franchise as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hits theaters. The film is meant to reboot the series, yet still in the same universe as all previous films. As I understand it, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a sequel to Bumblebee which also makes it a prequel to the original five Michael Bay directed movies (Bay remains a producer on this new film.)
The Transformers franchise has seen it fair share of ups and downs, beginning in 2007 when the original big screen film hit theaters and opened with $70.5 million on its way to a $319.2 million domestic finish ($709.7 worldwide). 2009 saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen hit screens with an opening weekend of $108.9 million and a $402.1 million domestic finish ($836.3 million worldwide.) In 2011, we got the final Shia Labeouf led Transformers film with Dark of the Moon that opened with $97.8 million...

The No. 1 position at this weekend’s box office is up for grabs. While Paramount’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” is stomping into theaters hoping to reclaim some of its franchise’s former box office glory, the top spot could be swiped by Sony’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” which is showing excellent midweek returns and could have long legs at the box office.
This is the first time in six years that a “Transformers” movie has graced the summer slate. Once upon a time, Michael Bay’s “Transformers” was the top franchise at the box office, sporting a lifetime total of $4.8 billion worldwide and a pair of billion-dollar hits with “Dark of the Moon” in 2011 and “Age of Extinction” in 2014.
But in 2017, the series’ fifth installment, “Transformers: The Last Knight,” opened on a Wednesday to a series-low $44.6 million over three days and $68 million over five days, going on to gross $602.8 million worldwide.

Summer’s tentpole rumble continues this weekend with Paramount’s seventh Transformers movie, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which is heat-seeking $155 million at the worldwide box office for its opening frame, $100M of that offshore.
The movie reps a concentrated reboot by the studio of the long-in-tooth robots-in-disguise franchise, which has suffered in latter installments from declining ticket sales. This is the second Transformers movie not directed by Michael Bay after 2018’s Bumblebee (though Bay still produces), and looks to distinguish itself from the fray with its introduction of the robotic animals from the Hasbro franchise. Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. is at the helm and the movie stars In the Heights’ Anthony Ramos and The Deuce and Judas and the Black Messiah’s Dominique Fishback. The pic cost a net $195M co-financed by Skydance.

“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” is readying to turbocharge the box office, targeting $50 million to $60 million in its opening weekend.
There’s a chance that inaugural ticket sales could climb higher as the Paramount Pictures film touches down on Friday in 3,700 North American theaters. But the latest Autobot adventure is expected to face headwinds from last weekend’s champion, Sony’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” The animated comic book sequel launched to $120 million and looks to add $45 million to $55 million in its second weekend of release. That’s close to double what the original, 2019’s “Into the Spider-Verse,” earned in its debut. Yep, Spidey’s still got it.
Steven Caple Jr. (“Creed II”) directed the PG-13 rated “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” which cost $200 million. It’ll need to keep playing in domestic theaters and resonate at the international box office to justify that hefty price tag.

The summer movie season is officially here, and 2023 will be welcoming back a staple of blockbuster cinema for the past decade and a half with "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts." The live-action movies focused on the Autobots and Decepticons have raked in billions in ticket sales since Michael Bay kicked things off in 2007 with "Transformers." Yet, it's been just shy of five years since "Bumblebee" ushered in a new era for the alien robots. The wait is nearly over and, even though it's been a long time, Paramount isn't going to have audiences trapped in a theater for an indulgent amount of time, as the latest entry clocks in at just under two hours.
As reported by Collider, "Rise of the Beasts" will hit theaters with a runtime of 1 hour and 57 minutes. That means it will be just a hair longer than "Bumblebee" (1 hour and 54 minutes), and remarkably shorter than Bay's fifth and final installment,...

It's been five years since a "Transformers" movie graced our screens with 2018's "Bumblebee," which turned out to be a real winner critically following the massive disappointment of 2017's "The Last Knight." Universal Pictures and Hasbro have no intention of making fans wait that long again. Not only do we have the live-action "Rise of the Beasts" arriving in 2023, but we've also got an as-of-yet untitled animated film focused on the Autobots and Decepticons coming our way in 2024. Now, we finally know what it's going to be about, and it's going to take place on Cybertron.
The information comes to us from the folks at Collider, who recently spoke with longtime franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. The producer confirmed that director Josh Cooley, of "Toy Story 4" fame, is indeed making a prequel set on Cybertron, with the film serving as an origin story of sorts for Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Even Michael Bay admits that yes, he should have stopped making “Transformers” movies.
The blockbuster filmmaker was hand selected by producer Steven Spielberg to bring the Hasbro toy line to life with 2007’s “Transformers,” and then he ended up directing four additional sequels. The franchise hit a nadir with 2017’s “Transformers: The Last Knight,” which grossed 500 million less than the previous installment (2014’s “Age of Extinction”) and effectively put the series on ice.
“I made too many of them,” Bay admitted to Unilad UK in a recent interview. “Steven Spielberg said, ‘Just stop at three.’ And I said I’d stop. The studio begged me to do a fourth, and then that made a billion, too. And then I said I’m gonna stop here. And they begged me again. I should have stopped. [But] they were fun to do.”

There’s a lot of ambition in this upcoming Transformers movie and already it sounds like it’s going to be a CGI mess that a lot of us will be hoping pans out in some crucial way. But with memories of The Last Knight still plaguing our dreams in some ways, it’s fair to think that the Transformers simply need to be rebooted and started over from scratch Without Shia Labeouf or Megan Fox and possibly even without any influence from Michael “Boom Boom” Bay. Let’s be fair and say that each movie has had its high points, but there have

With over $4.8 billion in box office takings, there was no chance that Paramount were going to leave the Transformers franchise sitting on a shelf gathering dust. The studio’s experiment with a writer’s room was an abject failure, after they hired over a dozen scribes who produced a combined total of two screenplays, one of which was for Michael Bay’s turgid The Last Knight, although the other was for Travis Knight’s excellent Bumblebee.
Going back to the drawing board, two competing scripts were commissioned last year, and the one that the executives deemed superior would be the one to enter active development first. The winner was the straightforward reboot hailing from King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s Joby Harold, with Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. signing on to helm the project, which is currently penciled in for a summer 2022 release.

One short (and certainly welcome) detour aside in the form of 2018’s Bumblebee, Paramount’s blockbuster Transformers franchise has been notably absent from cinema screens for quite some time. 2017’s The Last Knight remains the most recent entry in the mainline series, of course, though it certainly won’t be the last. Despite the overwhelmingly negative critical response each installment has garnered over the years, Michael Bay’s adaptations have collectively proven to be one of the Hollywood box office’s biggest earners, so it’s always been a case of when, not if, the studio decides to continue the Autobot and Decepticons’ eternal war.
Last we heard, a new movie based on the cult favourite Beast Wars story arc is in line to get the live-action treatment, alongside several other Transformer projects that are brewing in development, with Deadline reporting that James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery) is on board to help bring it to life.

Michael Bay’s time at the helm of the Transformers franchise may have brought in billions of dollars at the box office, but the movies themselves kept getting progressively worse. As he’s wont to do, the filmmaker steadily increased the levels of scale and spectacle while completely overlooking such trivial things as plot and character.
By the time fifth entry The Last Knight rolled around, things had gotten almost incomprehensibly stupid, and audiences clearly lost interest as a result. After Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction both crossed the $1.1 billion mark, Bay’s final entry in the series saw earnings fall off a cliff. True, 99% of blockbusters would kill for a haul of $605 million globally, but it was viewed as a huge disappointment by Paramount.

Michael Bay holds a very unique position in Hollywood as one of the most famous and recognizable filmmakers in the industry with an enviable track record of commercial success, who tends to make largely terrible movies. In terms of box office takings, Bay is the fourth highest-grossing director in the history of the industry, but out of his fourteen efforts behind the camera, The Rock is the only one to have ever secured a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it remains his best film by far even a quarter of a century later.
Travis Knight’s Bumblebee was the first Transformers movie without Bay calling the shots, and it turned out to be the best one by far, while Bad Boys for Life received better reviews and made more money than the first two installments, although his most recent effort 6 Underground became one of Netflix’s most popular...

The Transformers writers room was a total bust, with Paramount hiring over a dozen scribes and getting a whopping two movies for their efforts, which were ironically the best and worst entries in the entire series, as well as the two lowest grossing. Michael Bay’s The Last Knight wound up earning half a billion dollars less than its predecessor at the box office, and the franchise fatigue had a knock-on effect towards Travis Knight’s Bumblebee despite the nostalgic adventure going down a storm with critics and fans alike.
Still, the Autobots and Decepticons have raked in over $4.8 billion globally, so there’s absolutely zero chance of the studio giving up on the property anytime soon, and over the last few years, countless projects have entered development only to quickly stagnate. The Bumblebee sequel hasn’t made any sort of forward movement for a long time now, while we...

Hasbro are determined to launch a cinematic universe based on their extensive range of toy lines, even if the experiment has brought decidedly mixed results so far. Michael Bay’s Transformers films may have raked in billions of dollars at the box office, but reviews were never exactly kind and takings dropped by over $500 million between Age of Extinction and The Last Knight.
Ironically, Bumblebee was the lowest-grossing entry in the franchise despite being the best by some distance, and another reboot for the Autobots and Decepticons is already in the works. The two G.I. Joe movies, meanwhile, underwhelmed from both a critical and commercial perspective, and Paramount will be hoping that next year’s Snake Eyes proves to be a hit. There was also Peter Berg’s Battleship in 2012, but you’d be forgiven for completely forgetting that it even existed in the first place.
