Genndy Tartakovsky, the man behind Hotel Transylvania, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Dexter’s Laboratory, Primal, and Samurai Jack, is in the midst of production on Fixed, an R-rated animated comedy that has landed a great voice cast. Variety reports that Adam Devine, Idris Elba, and Kathryn Hahn will be leading the project for New Line Cinema and Sony Pictures Animation.
Fixed revolves around Bull, “an average dog who discovers he’s going to be neutered in the morning. As the gravity of this life-altering event sets in, Bull realizes he needs one last adventure with his pack of best friends as these are the last 24 hours with his balls.” Genndy Tartakovsky told Variety that “some people might get uncomfortable,” but added that “if you can look past the balls and the buttholes, you will find a very sweet, charming, sincere story of friendship and romance.“

Hollywood franchise movies “Hotel Transylvania: Transformania” and “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” have both secured April theatrical release dates in mainland China.
“Transylvania” will open in Chinese cinemas on Sunday April 3, 2022, a couple of days ahead of the Qingming or Tomb Sweeping holiday on April 5. “Beasts” will open, more conventionally, on Friday, April 8.
Sony missed out on a China release for “Spider Man: No Way Home,” which was the biggest film worldwide in 2021. But the confirmation represents the studio’s second Hollywood film this year to receive approval from the Chinese authorities. “Beasts 3” is the third of 2022 for Warner Bros. (after “The Matrix: Revolutions” in January and “The Batman” on March 18).
“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” releases in North America on April 15, 2022, meaning that the studio has time to build a marketing campaign in the Middle Kingdom and that the Chinese outing briefly precedes the stateside debut.

As Variety reported in August when a deal was close, Amazon has licensed “Hotel Transylvania: Transformania” from Sony Pictures Animation. The fourth (and final) installment in the blockbuster franchise will stream globally — excluding China — on Prime Video on Jan. 14, 2022. The first “Hotel Transylvania” movie was released in 2012, and the series has grossed more than $1.3 billion worldwide.
Amazon similarly licensed “Cinderella” from Sony last spring, and the Kay Cannon-directed musical premiered on Prime Video in September.
“Transformania” is directed by Derek Drymon and Jennifer Kluska from a script by Amos Vernon, Nunzio Randazzo and franchise creator/executive producer Genndy Tartakovsky. Brian Hull and Brad Abrell have replaced original stars Adam Sandler and Kevin James as Dracula and Frankenstein, respectively. The rest of the cast has returned, including Selena Gomez as Mavis, Andy Samberg as Johnny, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Kathryn Hahn, Jim Gaffigan, Molly Shannon, Keegan-Michael Key and Fran Drescher.

Sony Pictures Animation and Amazon are nearing deal for over $100 million for the animated feature “Hotel Transylvania: Transformania” to stream globally on Amazon Prime Video, Variety has learned exclusively.
“Hotel Transylvania” has been a monster family franchise for Sony, with the first three films grossing more than $1.3 billion in theaters worldwide since 2012. But the surge in Covid cases — driven by the highly contagious delta variant predominantly infecting unvaccinated people — has made theatrical exhibition of family pics untenable since there is no vaccine yet for children under 12. With New York City enacting a vaccine mandate for indoor venues on Tuesday, and other major cities seriously considering their own, sources say that in early August, Sony began exploring an alternative release for the fourth “Hotel Transylvania” movie, which had been slated to open in theaters on Oct. 1.

In another sign of the distressing pandemic backslide for the film industry, Sony Pictures is currently exploring alternative distribution for its upcoming animated feature “Hotel Transylvania: Transformania,” Variety has learned from multiple sources with knowledge of the effort.
The fourth entry in the kid-friendly franchise, which has grossed more than $1.3 billion worldwide since 2012, was set to debut in theaters on Oct. 1. But the delta variant raises serious questions about the safety of children under 12 in public spaces, since there is no vaccine yet available for that age bracket and health experts say the highly contagious strain of Covid-19 is more virulent for younger people. The recent news that exhibitors are not planning to object to vaccine mandates for indoor events only further reduces the financial viability of any family movies currently set to play only in theaters.

Updated, 2:08: Sony is moving its four-quel to October 1. Hotel Transylvania: Transformania was slated to go this summer, on July 23. Some of this could have to do with the fact that the domestic marketplace isn’t fully back yet: Portions of Canada remain closed, and capacity restrictions average around 66% — this despite the fact that L.A. and NYC are at 100% this weekend. The studio just tried to open Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, which it kept safe for a pure theatrical release during the pandemic, but families didn’t rush out to see it, with the sequel opening to $10.1M. Peter Rabbit 2 already has done $58M abroad.

Newly minted Oscar winners Sony Pictures Animation have announced a fourth installment in Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Hotel Transylvania” series.
Not a surprising move, considering the Adam Sandler-led family spin on classic movie monsters has grossed over $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office.
While it’s unclear what tone the film will take, Sony will release it Dec. 21, 2021, in the Christmas release block.
Last year’s “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” netted a series best and a new benchmark for Sony with a $528.6 million global haul. That starred Sandler, Selena Gomez, Kathryn Hahn, Andy Samberg, Kevin James, and Fran Drescher. It was written by Tartakovsky and Michael McCullers, with Michelle Murdocca serving as producer.
“Hotel” sees Sandler as a hapless version of Dracula, running an elite hotel for monsters which includes his pals Frankenstein (James) and his bride (Drescher), a werewolf (Steve Buscemi), the invisible man (David Spade), and a hunchback (Jon Lovitz).

The world’s favorite monster family is back and they are going from the hotel to the high seas in Sony Pictures Animation’s forthcoming Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. On Wednesday morning, stars Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kathryn Hahn were on hand at Spa headquarters to talk about the third installment of the successful animated franchise alongside director and writer Genndy Tartakovsky — who came up with the idea for the movie on his own summer vacation.
After the second Hotel Transylvania, Tartakovsky said he wanted to close the chapter on the franchise. Just when he thought he was done making the lovable monster movies he said, “my family surprised me with a cruise and something clicked — it would make a good setting for a monster family.” This sparked the beginning of Summer Vacation.

Sony Pictures Animation has always been the red-headed stepchild of studio animation arms. They’ve had a few big hits, a few mid-sized hits, and they’ve done a very good job of squeezing every possible penny out of the direct-to-video market with sequels to some of their titles. In the press release they sent out today, Sony made it clear that they’re doubling down on animation. Kristine Belson is the president of Sony Animation, answering directly to Tom Rothman, and she talked about letting artists drive the films they’re planning to make. It’s a pretty safe list overall, with an emphasis on pre-existing properties, and I have a hard time getting my head around how anyone is even remotely artistically moved by the idea of an Emoji movie. Some of the titles had already been announced, but there are new details on those, and some of the announcements were brand-new.

In 2012, Sony brought a monster mash to the big screen with Hotel Transylvania, an animated comedy take on classic monsters that featured Adam Sandler as the voice of Dracula, Kevin James as Frankenstein’s monster, and many more. With the sequel due out next fall, a new addition to the voice cast has been announced: the legendary Mel Brooks, who will voice Dracula’s vampire father, Vlad.
Deadline reports that Mel Brooks will voice Vlad, a character with a serious grumpy side (though he’s smiling in the photo shown above). As many fans of Bram Stoker’s Dracula know, the real life 15th century ruler, Vlad III Dracula, aka Vlad the Impaler, helped inspire the Count Dracula character.
Brooks is no stranger to portraying classic monsters in a comedic way, having helmed and co-written Young Frankenstein 40 years ago. Brooks also directed, co-wrote, and co-starred as Professor Van Helsing in...

Comedy legend Mel Brooks has been tapped to voice Vlad in Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 2. He’ll play the very old and grumpy vampire father to Adam Sandler’s Dracula. The sequel to Sony’s 2012 family film sees old-school supernatural meet modern-day cool when Vlad turns up at the hotel for an impromptu family get-together. Genndy Tartakovsky is helming again from a script by Robert Smigel. The original movie made about $360M worldwide and was nominated for a Golden Globe. This one is set for release September 25.
The Oscar-, Tony-, Grammy- and Emmy-winning Brooks has some cinematic vampire experience; he directed, produced and co-wrote 1995’s Dracula: Dead And Loving It, also starring as vamp hunter Val Helsing. He said of the Hotel Transylvania character: “He’s been around for eons, and he’s a pretty crabby guy. Basically, he reminds me of me.”

Legendary comedian and filmmaker Mel Brooks is set to voice the ancient vampire Vlad, the cranky old father of Adam Sandler's Dracula, in Genndy Tartakovsky's upcoming animated sequel "Hotel Transylvania 2".
The original 2012 film dealt with the generational gap between Drac and his young 118-year-old daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) who wants to see the world and is attracted to the hapless human Jonathan (Andy Samberg).
In the sequel, a family reunion causes Vlad to visit the estranged son he hasn't seen in years, in the process turning everyone's life upside down.
Producer Michelle Murdocca tells USA Today: "He actually lives in a cave — he is about as old school as it gets. So when he comes and sees that Dracula is running a hotel, he's like, 'What is going on here?'." Brooks himself adds that Vlad is "like my real, honest-to-goodness personality. I'm pretty grumpy. It was a good choice.

There's an interesting and somewhat exciting trend coming in the second half of 2012 and that's the number of horror-related animated movies being released, obviously meant for kids, but with lots of in-jokes that older fans should appreciate as well.
Sony Pictures Animation's Hotel Transylvania has a couple advantages over the others, first because it stars some of the most famous monsters from moviedom including Count Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolf Man, but also because it's the feature film and computer animation debut of Genndy Tartakovsy, best known for cartoons like "Samurai Jack," "Dexter's Laboratory" and the excellent original "Star Wars: Clone Wars" series.
Tartakovsky was already developing a couple ideas for Sony Animation when they called upon him to take over the project that they'd been developing for four years and he came on board to develop the three-page outline they had, which grew into an all-star animated comedy featuring the voices of Adam Sandler,...

Sony Pictures Animation on Monday offered a look at its latest lead character, an overprotective dad who is trying to keep his daughter safe as she celebrates her birthday and becomes an adult. But in this comedic CG-animated 3D movie, that dad is Dracula, the manager of monster resort, who is voiced by Adam Sandler. Clips from Hotel Transylvania, which opens Sept. 28, were previewed during a press event attended by director Genndy Tartakovsky, producer Michelle Murdocca and Selena Gomez, who provides the voice of Dracula’s daughter, Mavis, who is turning 118 years old. Selena Gomez trades in her wizard's wand for vampire teeth as Mavis, Count Dracula's daughter, in the 3D animated comedy Hotel Transylvania. KidsPickFlicks attended Mavis' 118th birthday party on the Sony Animated Pictures lot where Selena shared that Adam Sandler joined her for most of her sessions (producer Michelle Murdocca says they scheduled the sessions for four hours a day for four days, but Selena is "such a workhorse" that she insisted on doing 3 hours straight through, with no breaks!). Selena revealed she loves to be scared, including scary movies, staying at a haunted hotel ("nothing happened, which was disappointing") and "going to Knott's Scary Farm every year!"
During the party, KidsPickFlicks.com's Red Carpet Riley spoke with 19-year old Selena about her Transylvania-n life.
Kpf: I loved you in "Wizards of Waverly Place," by the way.
Selena: Thank you!

From Frankenweenie to Hotel Transylvania, the most powerful women in animation introduced the cuddly side of horror
At the Los Angeles film festival screenwriter's panel, the talk was of authorly angst in the company of Seeking a Friend for the End of the World's Lorene Scafalia, The Avengers' Zak Penn and The Dark Knight's Jonathan Nolan.
"I hate to write. I find it exceptionally difficult," Nolan told the panel, which was moderated by writer John August, who's been working on Tim Burton's Frankenweenie screenplay. "I'm not one of those writers who gets up at 5am. I have to force myself, no question. But I'll probably write for a couple of hours before lunch. And then make sure I have a couple of drinks at lunch."
