Saleka, the R&b-singing daughter of director M. Night Shyamalan, has shared the song “Release” as Lady Raven, the pop star she portrays in her dad’s upcoming cat-and-mouse serial killer movie Trap.
In the film, Josh Hartnett plays a father/murderer who, with his young daughter, attends a Lady Raven concert, only to find out the police know the serial killer dubbed “the Butcher” is in attendance and have concocted the titular “trap” to catch him.

At the start of 2023, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan secured a multi-year deal with Warner Bros., and soon after that deal was made, we heard that his first movie for Warner Bros. would be Trap, a “psychological thriller set at a concert”. That project made its way through production toward the end of last year, with lead roles going to Josh Hartnett, fresh off his appearance in Oppenheimer (pictured below), and Shyamalan’s daughter Saleka. Now the film’s August 9th theatrical release date is swiftly approaching – and the latest bit of promotional material to be unveiled is a lyric video for the original song “Release.” The song first dropped online at the end of April, but now we have a video go along with it. Saleka recorded this song for the movie, where she plays a pop star called Lady Raven. You can watch the video in the embed above.

The famed director acts as producer for his offspring’s directorial debut but her tale of mythical creatures in the Irish woods goes from intriguing to absurd
It’s a big year for the Shyamalan clan, bullishly expanding into the spotlight with such runaway speed that one assumes an accompanying reality show might also be in the offing. This summer, singer Saleka Shyamalan will star as a pop star in her father M Night’s Josh Hartnett-led thriller Trap, having previously contributed songs for his Apple show Servant and 2021 thriller Old. Before that, the Oscar-nominated film-maker is also ushering his daughter Ishana’s directorial debut into cinemas, Irish fantasy horror The Watchers (weirdly retitled The Watched for the UK and Ireland), his middle child having already worked with him on both the big and small screen. M. Night Shyamalan is a fellow of many talents. 25 years after his breakout success "The Sixth Sense" and the man can still throw a curveball like nobody's business, as evidenced by the twisty premise for his upcoming Josh Hartnett vehicle "Trap" (watch the trailer). The maestro of low-budget horror-driven thrillers also has a knack for sending Film Twitter into a frenzy with his boldly divisive work, with 2023's "Knock at the Cabin" being but the latest example.
Adapted from Paul G. Tremblay's 2018 novel "The Cabin at the End of the World," Shyamalan's entry in the tradition of cabin-based horror movies follows a small family -- two dads and their young daughter -- as their vacation is interrupted by a group of home invaders. As it turns out, these strangers might just be the actual Horsemen of the Apocalypse, having shared visions of a world-ending catastrophe that led them to this place.

Since rising to stardom after playing Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick, Powell has continued to spread his acting chops across various genres, which includes the rom-com Anyone but You, which became a smash hit.
Recently, the actor also joined forces with a former commanding officer of The Blue Angels to make a documentary following his love for aviation. Fred Roos, the casting director turned producer who jump-started the career of Jack Nicholson and collaborated often with Francis Ford Coppola, sharing a best picture Oscar with the filmmaker for The Godfather Part II, has died. He was 89.
Roos died Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills, a publicist announced.
It’s part of Hollywood lore that before Harrison Ford became a famous actor, he was laboring as a carpenter to make ends meet. What some might not know is that it was at Roos’ house where Ford was woodworking when the casting director befriended him, eventually pushing him for roles in George Lucas’ American Graffiti (1973) and Star Wars (1977) and Coppola’s The Conversation (1974).
And it was Roos who convinced Lucas — who had been leaning toward Amy Irving — that Carrie Fisher should portray Princess Leia in Star Wars. (Roos did not have an official role on that film.)

Netflix’s “Black Mirror” returns to the Emmy Awards after a four-year break with its sixth season that premiered back in June 2023. The trajectory of the Charlie Brooker anthology series at the Emmys has been a tumultuous journey, particularly in recent years. The science-fiction dystopia used to dominate the limited/movie genre, winning Best Television Movie for three consecutive years at its height, before the Television Academy ruled that it must compete for the drama categories for its fifth season in 2020, ending its streak. Then the following year, the top category for limited series was changed to Best Limited or Anthology Series, placing “Black Mirror” back into the genre, but in the more competitive limited series race rather than the standalone television movies.

When Showtime premiered Penny Dreadful a decade ago, we altogether expected a grand monster mash-up. And certainly, series creator John Logan delivered just that over the course of the three seasons that followed. But he also gave viewers something that we couldn’t possibly have anticipated: a horror drama of uncommon depth and crushing beauty. It is for that reason that all these years later, we still can’t help but hope he’ll reconsider his decision to end the show after just 27 episodes with the death of Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives. Now the film’s August 9th theatrical release date is swiftly approaching, so today (a couple weeks after we saw the trailer), a poster for the movie has arrived online, along with an original song Saleka recorded for the movie, where she plays a pop star called Lady Raven. The poster can be seen at the bottom of this article, and you can listen to the Lady Raven song “Release” at LadyRavenMusic.com.

The filmmaker is known for his sci-fi thrillers and psychological mysteries, with a trademark twist ending that changes the whole film. He has been successful in films such as The Sixth Sense, The Visit, Signs, and Split.
Shyamalan has collaborated with actor Bruce Willis in multiple films, including his superhero/horror franchise Unbreakable. M. Night Shyamalan hit the jackpot with his 1999 movie The Sixth Sense, which established him as a brand in suspense-thriller movies. While pitching the story to different studios, Shyamalan wanted them to fulfill a few of his conditions. The director knew that he was making a risky gamble since he was only known in the industry for writing a few spec scripts at the time. However, his gamble paid off as studios were fighting each other to bid for his film.

Shyamalan’s story revolved around Haley Joel Osment’s Cole who claims to see dead people in the movie. He has the caring psychologist Malcolm Crowe, played by Bruce Willis, guiding him through his newfound abilities. However, Crowe doesn’t realize that he’s helping himself by helping the kid.

In what will surely come as a huge shock to the general public and cause no small number of monocles to pop out, Amazon MGM Studios has elected to retitle Zoë Kravitz's feature directing debut, which was previously going under the not-at-all provocative moniker "Pussy Island." Kravitz's film will instead be released as "Blink Twice," which for me conjures memories of David Tennant's 10th Doctor desperately warning Carey Mulligan not to blink around the Weeping Angels in the classic modern "Doctor Who" episode "Blink."
That association isn't entirely inappropriate, either. "Blink Twice," like "Blink," is a potpourri of horror, mystery-thriller, and humor with an English actor at its core. In this case, it's Naomi Ackie of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," "Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody," and "Master of None" season 3 fame starring as a young woman who accompanies a tech billionaire -- played by Kravitz's current real-life significant other,...

Universal Pictures’ The Mummy franchise was a fan favorite when it starred Brendan Fraser as the leading man Rick O’Connell. The first two films in the trilogy were directed by Stephen Sommers, also starred Rachel Weisz and John Hannah, and were box office successes. However, the reboot starring Tom Cruise was a gigantic failure critically and commercially.
While Cruise’s film ended what Universal planned as a series of monster films with a shared universe, a recent fan-made trailer seemed to have followed it up with a new cast. The new trailer is titled The Mummy: Resurrection and sees Keanu Reeves take over the franchise to battle a new evil spirit buried in an Egyptian tomb.

Ishana Night Shyamalan’s debut feature The Watched is just a couple of months away. You can catch the film’s full trailer right here.
Following a brief teaser back in February, we now have a full trailer to mark the imminent release of The Watched – known as The Watchers in the US – the debut feature from Ishana Night Shyamalan, the daughter of M Night Shyamalan.
The movie is an adaptation of Am Shine’s 2022 novel of the same name. Like her father before her, Shyamalan Jr has leaned into the power of mystery when it comes to marketing her film. The blurb reads that ‘Dakota Fanning stars as Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.’
Strangers. Mysterious creatures. An untouched location.

There are two twisty thrillers directed by filmmakers named Shyamalan heading to theaters in the coming months and the filmmakers promise “unease” and “wonder.”
It wasn’t intentional, said M. Night Shyamalan, sitting down for a conversation with his daughter and fellow filmmaker Ishana Night Shyamalan.
“It just played out this way,” he began, recounting the filmmakers’ conversations with Warner Bros., which is releasing both films. “It was just: What is the best date for that movie and what is the best day for this movie? And it turned out it was in the same summer.”
First up will be the June 14 release of “The Watchers,” the feature film directorial debut from Ishana Night Shyamalan, starring Dakota Fanning as part of a group of humans trapped in the woods who are visited by a mysterious audience every night. That will be followed by the Aug. 9 debut of her dad M.

M. Night Shyamalan is one of the pioneer directors of our times, whose movies transcend our general perception. And among all his movies, the Unbreakable trilogy – Unbreakable (2000), Split (2017), and Glass (2019), are three movies that have weaved a story beyond comprehension. With intricate plot points and details, the trilogy is one of Shyamalan’s very best works to date.
