Whoopi Goldberg accepted her role in Tony Goldwyn’s Ezra without reading the script. The two actors knew each other from co-starring in 1990’s Ghost.
“If he says he’s got something, I don’t care how other people respond to it, I’m there,” Goldberg said of Goldwyn during Tuesday’s episode of The View, where the actor appeared as a guest alongside Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne.
Godberg played Oda Mae Brown, the medium who communicates with Patrick Swayze’s spirit, in Ghost (she won an Oscar for the role). Goldwyn was the antagonist, Carl Bruner, and Goldberg said this week he is a “wonderful partner.”
In Ezra, Goldberg plays the manager of Cannavale’s character, a stand-up comedian struggling to co-parent his autistic son. Byrne, Robert DeNiro, Rainn Wilson and others round out the cast. Goldwyn directed the movie, and also has a small part onscreen. The...

In a new Joe Biden campaign advertisement, Robert De Niro declared that former president Donald Trump “snapped” after he lost the 2020 presidential election.
“From midnight tweets to drinking bleach to tear-gassing citizens and staging a photo-op,” De Niro recounted at the beginning of the advertisement. “We knew Trump was out of control when he was president, and then he lost the 2020 election and snapped.”
“Desperately trying to hold on to power,” he said while clips of the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack were shown in the ad. “Now he’s running again, this time threatening to be a dictator, to terminate the Constitution.”
De Niro’s “dictator” comment was in reference to his telling Fox News’s Sean Hannity during a town hall interview in December that he would only be a dictator on the first day of his presidency.
The campaign ad then showed a video of the former president saying at a rally in Dayton,...

Albert S. Ruddy, who earned two Best Picture Oscars for producing The Godfather and Million Dollar Baby and co-created TV shows including Walker, Texas Ranger and Hogan’s Heroes, died May 25 at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center after a brief illness, a family spokesman said. He was 94.
Ruddy is one of nine producers ever to earn two or more Best Picture Oscars, and has the distinction of winning them with the largest interval in between — 32 years.
He recently was portrayed by Miles Teller in the Paramount+ miniseries The Offer, which chronicles Ruddy’s experience making the 1972 film that Coppola directed and adapted with Mario Puzo from the latter’s bestselling novel.

Actor and New York native Robert De Niro clashed with pro-Trump protesters outside of the former president’s criminal hush-money trial in Manhattan on Tuesday.
The legendary actor was tapped by the Biden-Harris campaign to provide counter-messaging to the constant stream of Trump allies who have used the trial as a gathering point to broadcast the former president’s messaging.
“Donald Trump doesn’t belong in my city,” De Niro said. “We New Yorkers used to tolerate him when he was just another grubby real estate hustler masquerading as a big shot.

Robert De Niro was the surprise guest of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign for a press conference outside the Manhattan courthouse where closing arguments are taking place in Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
De Niro, who recently narrated a Biden campaign ad, warned of Trump’s potential return to the White House, calling him a “tyrant.”
“Now he’s promising to use our own military to attack U.S. citizens,” De Niro said. “That’s the tyrant, that is the tyrant he is telling us he will be, and believe me, he means it.”
“When Trump ran in 2016 it was like a joke,” he added. “This buffoon running for president. No, never could happen. We have forgotten the lessons of history that showed us other clowns who weren’t taken seriously until they became vicious dictators. With Trump, we have a second chance, and no one is laughing now.

Tony Goldwyn might be more known for his work as an actor, but he’s also prolific as a director, having helmed a few feature films and several TV episodes. Although his latest effort in the director’s chair, the family dramedy Ezra, does suffer from some of its more conventional and melodramatic elements, it’s successful enough in its approach to be a likable, if forgettable, crowd-pleaser.
The movie follows a comedian who sets out on a life-changing road trip with his autistic son after facing decisions that could change both of their futures forever. It doesn’t reinvent the road movie subgenre, but it sets out to deliver a heartwarming and funny family dramedy, and it mostly succeeds in doing so.

Being recognized as the king of crime movies replete with violence, razor-sharp dialogues and allusions to pop culture entities, Quentin Tarantino inscribed his name in movie history. Almost all of his films are recognized both by critics and the audience.
However, there was a movie that became overshadowed by the success of Pulp Fiction (1994) and then by the Kill Bill saga (2003 - 2004). It appears to be the only movie of Tarantino that was adapted from a novel, Elmore Leonard’s one titled Rum Punch.
The film’s plot revolves around Jackie, a flight attendant, who is caught by the duo of an agent and a detective while she was heading to bring the money to her boss. The latter is in fact an arms dealer who is hunted by those two, and the woman is asked for help.
Instead of cooperating with them or going to prison, Jackie decides to...

When deciding what to watch, we often rely on other people's opinions, and that's perfectly fine. If we have doubts about the genre of the general nature of what we want to see, if it's not a new movie that just hit streaming platforms, the choice can be difficult because of the huge variety of thighs that are available.
Who to trust better if not your favorite director, then? For example, Quentin Tarantino is always vocal about what he likes and dislikes in movies, but so is Guillermo del Toro.
Therefore, if you trust the choices of the iconic director and you're in the mood for something old-school and classic – here are del Toro's 5 favorite movies to watch.
1. Goodfellas (1990)
Of course, there’s no way Martin Scorsese’s gangster gem would have been left off the list. It’s no news that this legendary 1990 film featuring Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta,...

Back when the love between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was still in its heydays while shooting Mr. & Mrs. Smith, no one could have believed that things would turn sour the way they did. The now-divorced couple has been involved in an endless round of litigation on multiple fronts. In one such battle unfolding over who will take control of one of their most lucrative properties, things have taken a turn for the worse, as both are levelling heinous charges against the other.
The battle for Miraval
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been involved in a dispute over their French estate Chateau Miraval
At the center of the dispute between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is the French estate of Chateau Miraval, a property which was bought by the former couple all the way back when they were married, hoping that the Chateau would one day belong to their children.

Over the last few years, there have been some major shifts in the way those on the autism spectrum are understood. Conditions like autism have been reframed as an asset rather than a disability, due largely to conversations happening in spaces like TikTok. There has even been a vernacular reconfiguration, with the terms neurotypical and neurodivergent coming into wider acceptance as the more inclusive and less historically loaded categorizations.
As with basically all discourse, these positive developments have occasionally fueled actions with bad intent—like neurotypical people self-diagnosing as neurodivergent, essentially for purposes of clout. Enter Tony Goldwyn’s Ezra, which sees itself as a kind of rebuke to films like Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close for at least nominally wrestling with the notion of whether we should raise children to be as normative as possible or fully embrace their divergences.

It was only a matter of time before Martin Scorsese and Timothée Chalamet worked together. But unfortunately, it’s not for a big screen project; instead, it’s for a Chanel ad. This might not be the project we were all hoping for but it’s still a compelling commercial and hopefully the start of a genuine working relationship.
The Scorsese and Chalamet Chanel ad briefly opens with an almost Who’s That Knocking at My Door? rawness, with Chalamet waking too late for an appointment and being rushed into a waiting car, where he’ll be taken to a late night talk show appearance. Complete with a nearly constantly moving camera and a charismatic turn from Chalamet, it’s actually a pretty snazzy ad for a product most of us will never buy.

When I first moved to New York in 2017, I made a work friend who quickly became a close friend. One of the many things we bonded over was a shared love of John Travolta's lesser known movies. More specifically, I was impressed at how much joy my new friend was able to derive from the actor's career. I'd be lying if I said that joy stemmed from a genuine appreciation of the man's work, but I think he harbored a strange kind of respect for Travolta, as if any man who could put out "Look Who's Talking Now" or "Gotti" and still maintain some sort of career was deserving of admiration. As such, we planned a massive Travolta marathon which we sadly never got around to.
But if we ever did get around to taking a journey through the dregs of Travolta's career, Rotten Tomatoes might be a decent guide.

Determining Ben Stiller's best role is no easy task, as the prolific performer has more than a few borderline iconic characters to his name. Tony Perkis in "Heavyweights," Mr. Furious in "Mystery Men," White Goodman in "Dodgeball," Chas Tenenbaum in "The Royal Tenenbaums," Tugg Speedman in "Tropic Thunder," the titular Derek "Zoolander," and Ted Stroehmann in "There's Something About Mary" are all characters that feel synonymous with Stiller, and roles that no one else but him could pull off. And then there's Greg Focker in "Meet the Parents," a role Stiller has played in three different films, the lovable everyman who can't seem to impress his overbearing father-in-law Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro). For as much as Stiller has made a name for himself with distinctive characters like Hal the Orderly Guy in "Happy Gilmore," his genuine charm allowed him to flourish in relatable roles, with Greg arguably the best example of this.

If he can’t “punch [Trump] in the face,” as he once attempted to manifest by speaking it out loud, Robert De Niro will jab an upper cut at Trump with words. The actor has narrated a new half-minute ad spot for President Joe Biden’s campaign, which posted it to its YouTube account.

Denis Villeneuve has flown through the ranks of Hollywood very quickly. Although he has been making massively successful and critically acclaimed projects for years, his name has only recently entered the mainstream media after he started working on the Dune series. Since then, his filmmaking has been appreciated for the gift that it is, and respect has been put in his name.

Keanu Reeves has always had a career worth the envy of his contemporaries. From his righteous indignance against violence in turning down Oliver Stoneʼs Platoon to becoming one of the most in-demand action movie stars, even in his late 50s, Reeves doesnʼt leave much to the imagination as far as his success is concerned. But even those set on the path of success can sometimes tread down the wrong path.

Despite the direction in which Reeves was later bound to go in his career, in hindsight, the actor got his start playing charming go-getters stuck in difficult predicaments. Be it Speed or Constantine or The Devilʼs Advocate, he has always been the quiet charmer with a chip on his shoulder, fighting against all odds for the selfless greater good.

Coppola then followed it up with The Godfather – Part II, which became the first sequel to win Best Picture.
The sequel saw Robert De Niro play the role of a younger Vito Corleone (played by Brando in the original). De Niro won the Oscar for Best Supporting Role for the film and had a breakthrough with the film. While he did a phenomenal job as Corleone, he reportedly auditioned way back for the first part and was up for the role of Sonny Corleone.

Dan Stevens is a busy man. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire landed in theaters at the end of March, where Stevens played charming leading man Trapper, then anarchic horror Abigail arrived hot on its heels in April. Next up, August brings strange horror/sci-fi Cuckoo, which sees Stevens playing a deranged scientist. Between press tours, festivals, and new projects, he’s got a lot going on. And we get the sense he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Describing himself as an “experience hound,” Stevens is a man who thrives on challenges. He began his career in theater, made it big as tragic heartthrob Matthew Crawley in British drama Downton Abbey, and has genre-hopped ever since, from action-thriller The Guest, to playing Sir Lancelot in family fun Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. He sang and danced on stilts for Beauty and the Beast, played Charles Dickens...

One of the Assistant Costume Designers on the Martin Scorsese directed Killers of the Flower Moon is alleging that Apple Studios and the Costume Designers Guild worked hand in hand to erase her contribution to the multi-nominated Lily Gladstone, Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro starring film.
“Throughout the multitude of award nominations for Kotfm, Apple teamed up with West and CDG to promote the film and its costume design,” says Kristi Marie Hoffman of the studio, the guild and costume designer Jacqueline West in her six-claim complaint filed in LA Superior Court today (read it here).
“Despite Hoffman being the primary Acd and completing most of the research and costume design for the film, the Defendants not only specifically excluded her involvement in its promotion but also completely ignored her work and instead represented to the public at large that the costume design work, her work, was the product of...

Wildflower Studios, a film studio co-owned by Robert De Niro, has named Cheryl Huggins as executive director ahead of a July 1 opening.
Huggins, who completed earlier executive stints with Quixote Studios and Sunset Studios, will oversee operations at the 11 soundstage, 765,000 square foot studio campus in Astoria, Queens developed by The Deer Hunter and Killers of the Flower Moon star De Niro, his son Raphael De Niro and managing partner Adam Gordon.
The new film studio from De Niro, who has investments in a string of celebrity-driven restaurants, promises “New York City level food” to film and TV productions that shoot on its stages. “It has long puzzled that in one of the greatest food cities, cast and crew were eating at craft tables. We will reset the bar,” Gordon said in a statement.
Gordon added the construction costs for Wildflower Studios was around $1 billion.

Martin Scorsese’s epic Killers of the Flower Moon shined a light on one of the lesser-known dark chapters of American history – the wholesale slaughter of dozens of members of the Osage Indian Nation by their supposed guardians, neighbors and friends. A dramatic gut-punch of a film, it was adapted by Scorsese and Eric Roth from the 2017 David Grann book of the same name. The book took about five years to research, and the film took just as long to arrive on the big screen, with both taking great pains to authentically communicate the tragic nature of the Osage murders. While the film obviously takes a handful of liberties necessary to dramatize Grann’s book, by all accounts it’s an incredibly faithful telling of the story, accurately recreating the book’s major events as realistically as possible. Let’s take a look at What Really Happened to Killers of the Flower Moon.

One of the most gripping elements of 1976’s Taxi Driver — which we still debate nearly 50 years later — is the ending. The ambiguity for many has left a number of questions: Did Travis survive the shootout? Was the final scene with him and Betsy just a fantasy? According to Robert De Niro, not only did Travis survive (and perhaps his encounter with Betsy real), but the character still had a number of moments worth exploring in a sequel to Taxi Driver.
According to Taxi Driver scribe Paul Schrader (via IndieWire), he never once wanted to expand on that world, saying it was all the doing of De Niro. “Now, I don’t want to slag De Niro, but a lot of his decisions sometimes have financial motivations. I’m sure someone had said to him, ‘You know, if you do ‘Taxi Driver 2,’ they can pay.’” Apparently, director Martin Scorsese — of course...

The devil was in the detail when it came to 1987’s superb The Untouchables – and that included the suite where Robert De Niro’s Al Capone lived.
With a price tag of $25m in an era when that felt like a reasonable amount of money for a major Hollywood studio to spend, Paramount Pictures’ 1987 hit The Untouchables was really something of a gamble.
>Granted, it was a gamble mitigated by the presence of some star wattage. Still, Robert De Niro in the role of Al Capone was a man more known for attracting strong critical notices than packing the house out. Sean Connery meanwhile was far from at the height of his commercial pulling powers.
Throw in the fact that director Brian De Palma was desperately needing a hit after a run of box office disappointments and that the picture’s star – Kevin Costner – was pretty much an unknown at this stage,...

Richard Foronjy, a character actor who grew up in the gangster world and went to prison before becoming an actor in movies including “Midnight Run,” “Prince of the City” and “Carlito’s Way,” died Sunday. He was 86.
Foronjy, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., saw his first small role as Corsaro in “Serpico,” the 1973 autobiographical crime drama that starred Al Pacino as a whistleblower whose work led to an investigation by the Knapp Commission into the department.
In the 1984 “Repo Man,” starring Harry Dean Stanton and Emilio Estevez, Foronjy played Arnold Plettschner, the rent-a-cop with the memorable speech, “You’re fuckin’ right I’m Plettschner! Arnold Plettschner! Three times decorated in two world wars! I was killing people while you were still swimming around in your father’s balls! You little scumbag! Music is one of the main keys to the success of a movie, as it helps to set the tone and enhances the viewers’ experience. It can even happen that films become overshadowed by the songs written and recorded specifically for them, and people tend to forget that they were originally soundtracks that lost any association with their origins.
Here are 5 dramas surpassed in popularity by their music themes, according to Reddit.
Dangerous Minds (1995)
Michelle Pfeiffer’s underrated gem presumably comes first in this respect, as everybody knows Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio, while the movie is unfairly forgotten. In fact, the story of a teacher taking up a job in East Palo Alto, a racially segregated and economically deprived city, is worth a try, apart from its cultish main song.
Chariots of Fire (1981)

“We never quite know if his intentions are good or manipulative… that is very appealing to work with because it allows you to keep people guessing,” remarks Matthias Schoenaerts about his starring role on the HBO limited series “The Regime.” The actor plays Corporal Zubak, a man with a violent past who is summoned to work at the palace for the chancellor of a fictional European nation. If Heat and The Insider are agreed upon as Michael Mann’s all-time best films, what is the director’s most underrated feature to date? Is it Thief? The Keep? Manhunter? Public Enemies? Nah. There’s only one acceptable answer: 2004’s criminally overlooked nocturnal neo-noir Collateral. Featuring a rare villainous turn by Tom Cruise and a restrained Oscar-nominated performance by Jamie Foxx, the L.A. crime story was the first film in history to utilize the Viper FilmStream High Definition Camera. The digital format that David Fincher would later adopt for use on Zodiac and Benjamin Button. Beyond the cutting-edge technology, the remote locations Mann and his production team gave viewers a much different glimpse of Los Angeles away from the glamor of Hollywood and into the seedy, sinister parts of town rarely seen on the big screen.

Ti West is channeling Paul Schrader for his trilogy ender “MaXXXine.” Oh, and “The Terminator.”
Writer/director West told Total Film that the 1985 Hollywood-set horror film is just as “hardcore” as Schrader’s filmography, with high concept tie-ins of “The Terminator” and “Vice Squad.” Plus, of course, what “X” film is complete without a hint of giallo?

Michael Mann confirmed during his press tour for Ferrari that his next film project would be adapting his novel, Heat 2, which serves as both a sequel and a prequel to his popular 1995 film that famously pitted together legendary actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. Not much is known about the film other than Mann being keen to work with Adam Driver again after Ferrari. However, speculation had grown that Elvis’ Austin Butler would be occupying the role of Chris Shiherlis, which had previously been played by Val Kilmer. Then, there would be fuel added to the fire of rumors thanks to a viral video that was making the rounds which shows Butler doing some gun training at Taran Tactical, which is the same facility where Keanu Reeves trains for the John Wick films.

Terry Gilliam has been to Cannes with three of his own films since 1983, but one of his favorite memories of the festival takes him back to that very first time, at the 36th edition, as the co-writer and co-star of Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life. Along with Graham Chapman and the film’s director Terry Jones, he’d emerged from the Carlton hotel’s iconic entrance, then bedecked with promotion for the upcoming Bond movie Octopussy, to encounter a camera crew. Jones started grabbing people at random, shouting, “Who Ees Monty Python???” in a ridiculous foreign accent, and got so carried away that, when they reached the hotel’s famous terrace, he accidentally did it to Gilliam too.
The crowd loved it, and the day only grew stranger. Out on the Carlton’s jetty, they gave an interview to British news channel ITN, with Jones hiding behind Graham...

If you've ever watched any behind-the-scenes footage from "The Shining," you might remember Jack Nicholson working himself up into a frenzy prior to shooting the famous "Here's Johnny" scene. As poor Shelly Duvall quietly finds her way into the bathroom, Jack can be seen seething as he descends into the deranged mental space required for the scene. No wonder "The Shining" changed Shelly Duvall forever.
But while Nicholson's process for journeying to the outer edges of sanity involved jumping in place, repeating the words, "Come on!," and almost accidentally giving the Pa a concussion with a prop axe, not all actors follow that same method. We all know the punishing physical lengths to which Christian Bale goes in order to truly feel like the characters he portrays. As the actor told The Guardian, "I try to get as distant as possible. Otherwise, I can't do it. It's helpful not to look like yourself.
