The 5-Year Christmas Party (2024)
More awkward than meet cute
I really like the actors. I loved her in Sealed with a List last year and Love strikes twice. I enjoyed the premise and the theater plots lines. It seemed new and more modern somehow even though some of the traditional tropes are present. However, the chemistry between the main character felt as off and awkward in scenes as it felt really good in others. Disappointing final result overall. I imagine I will forget it quickly, it feels forgettable, which is very unfortunate. If your looking for a modern take on Christmas romance, watch sealed with a List or the Santa Summit; far better than this.
Junebug (2024)
Adorable romance
Loved the chemistry between the leads Reeser and O'Connell. Enjoyed all the secondary characters from parents, the best friend, the barista and the boss. I thought they all added to the story. The plot is similar to the Christmas film "If you believe" but that is a total favorite of mine, so I'm not mad at it. They did it justice but still made it their own. I loved the modern references to Say Anything and seemed very realistic. We all have some image in our mind whether it's The Princess Bride or Say Anything that we judge new love by. The next story has to be about Junebug and her best friend Katydid.
Mystic Christmas (2023)
Too awkward
I like Jesse Schram and wanted to like this. The seals were fun to see. I've watched a million of these formulaic Hallmark romances. First time I've ever said this - These people do not belong together like at all. It's a bad romance overall. They fight the entire story and few interactionsthat aren't fighting are incredibly awkward. The awkward encounters made me actually uncomfortable and give a bad name to introverts overall. The fast talking didn't bother me as it did to some people. However, with that many words uttered in one movie, shouldn't it have said more?? Been better??
Skip this one.
Usumudang Gadooshim (2021)
This gave me all the feels. Super cute.
I don't normally like high school dramas but I was excited for the ghost/shaman angle plus it was so short I thought I would take a chance. I really enjoyed it! I thought the main leads, especially the male lead, did a great job and I definitely felt the chemistry.
Christmas in My Heart (2021)
Very beautiful story and great depth
Much deeper story than the typical Hallmark fare. I thought the race issues it tackled were done incredibly well and aided the connection between the characters. I appreciated that it was Luke voice and I had no issues with his singing. Lovely story and romance. My only issue at all was with the editing. Note to Hallmark or Dish - the cuts to commercial were the most awkward ever and really distracted from this wonderful movie.
Underneath the Same Moon (2019)
Good romance
Great chemistry between the married characters. Most comedy was a little unnecessary - from the sister, park ranger, bear. Didn't fit well, messed with the pacing of a beautiful story and made it seem childish. Crying scene at end was a bit overdone, but I still enjoyed it.
Charlie's Angels (2019)
Actually enjoyed, ignore the reviews and watch for yourself
Ok, admittedly there are no Oscar performances here, but I enjoyed the continuation of the Angels stories. It wasn't a remake, but a sequel that happens years after both other generations and references both equally. I really enjoyed all of the cameos. Kristen Stewart's character was quirky and unique in a modern way that felt realistic though a bit goofy at times. The whole story was that these girls were a new team so the full comradarie between the girls shows up later in the movie. Action scenes were good. Jonathan Tucker crushed it as the tattooed assassin. Give it a chance for some campy fun.
#Stuck (2014)
Slow pace but enjoyable romance
Interesting take on old story - dislike turns to like by the end of the story, told after a one night stand hookup. The "like" portion is shown both in flashbacks to the previous night and also bonding while stuck in traffic the morning after. I thought their chemistry was very good. I felt all of the attraction that led to the hookup and also the animosity after. Not sure why the bad reviews. I really enjoyed it.
Mr. 365 (2018)
Such a cute holiday movie.
Enjoyed it slightly more in the Passionflix version called Mr. 365 as it had a few steamier scenes. However, the story and acting work well in the tame version too. Worked well as a lifetime Christmas movie.
Dirty Sexy Saint (2019)
Still my favorite Passionflix movie so far
I think this was an amazing adaptation of the book. The script is almost identical. I felt the characters had good chemistry and it was steamy as hell. Casting for all the characters was true to the book. Was so excited when this series was picked. I hope we can look forward to more stories about the brothers.
The Matchmaker's Playbook (2018)
Ignore the haters! Cute romcom!
I enjoyed it and have now watched it a couple of times. Watched the movie then went back and read the book - the script is straight from the book. I thought their chemistry was good. The actors pull off college kids very well. The scenes where Ian talks to the camera remind me of Ferris Bueller, so you know its going to be a little campy. Funnier and better than the average Hallmark.
A Boy. A Girl. A Dream. (2018)
Better romance than all the reviews make it seem
I never review, but I am incredibly shocked by all the bad reviews I see. I thought this movie was a beautiful story of 2 people finding each other and cutting through the bs of life. Their meeting seemed natural and realistic. Talking to a stranger gone tomorrow allowed them to open up reminiscent of "Before Sunrise". The election and Donald Trump is like another character. I liked how it wasn't talked about directly, but always background radio, TV, etc. The scenery of LA was beautiful. It may have been a little slow at times, but both actors did a very good job.
Everyone has commented on the two characters widely changeable emotions, but I see it as reasonable given the situations they encountered - the initial passion in the bathroom, then returning to reason, the misplaced aggression against a black man by the police on the street and his powerful portrayal of those emotions, her change of behavior after that event. Everything is explained "You fought for me and he only fought me" and builds to a beautiful ending. By the end when she decides to stay, I was really connected to the characters. If you are the mood for a moving romance give this movie a watch.
