Kojak: Pilot (2005)
Absolutely Wonderful!!! USA Screwed Up Big Time!!!!
Although I never met Telly Savalas, he always impressed me as a person of style and compassion, it was quite evident in his acting prowess, and if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Ving Rhames' version of the series is the ultimate compliment, I would bet it all that if Mr. Savalas was alive to have seen this show, he would have been honored, Rhames was brilliant, the supporting cast, fantastic, I could care less about the ratings excuse, studio execs pull that stunt all the time with shows THEY don't like, what viewers of intelligent TV want is inconsequential to them, the same thing was said about the first season of "Hill Street Blues". but we all know how that turned out.
I also see the handwriting on the wall when it came to USA's unwillingness to bring "Kojak" back, but kept garbage like "Monk" and "Psyche", they've nothing to offer me since they canceled "Kojak". At least put the series on DVD, the excuse about it being canceled doesn't fly when I go into a video store and see "Day Break" and "Blade-The Series" on home video shelves, and this marvelous, under-appreciated work is marginalized and discarded.
At least the Sleuth Channel is streaming it online for the time being, but I want to see a reasonable time slot made available for it on their station.
Hint for TVOne or BET...Why didn't they step up and bring this series back? The CW? The MY/WB Network? This show should have enjoyed an extended run on somebody's network, but I smell what the entertainment industry in Hollywood is cooking...& it stinks.
Who loves ya, baby? Damn shame this show is gone.
Oil Storm (2005)
Hits Real Close To Home, Eh?
I was only able to catch portions of the movie, it aired on my wedding day, and between chatting with in-laws and other relatives, I was able to sneak in a few scenes to view...I remember telling myself back then, a lot of stuff that went down in this movie is going to come to pass, and darn it, I was right, we are now on the verge of gasoline going up to a ridiculous $4 dollars a gallon, it's already happened in Alaska.
They don't come any greedier than the oil and gasoline industry in this country, yet, in parts of the Middle East, gas is selling for less than a dollar a gallon. Just the other day, I heard a news report on radio about a 19-year old that got arrested for trying to drive off from a gas station without paying, he'd pumped $70 worth of gas before police hawked his stupid butt down. As weeks go by in this town in which I live (I'm too embarrassed by this place to mention its' name), there are fewer and fewer cars on the expressway during rush hour, yet we have one of the worst transit systems in the country, no light rail, just a dilapidated fleet of rundown, 30 year old buses.
Oh, yes, the "Oil Storm" is coming, and it's going to hit some cities much harder than others. This pathetic town in which I live is not ready for it. And to address the comment about this movie's availability, FX created it, perhaps there's a chance they can tell us about it, if they ever took the time to address the concerns of their audiences, which very few do today. If "Redemption" is on DVD, perhaps "Oil Storm" is as well...I want to see it again, in its' entirety this time...What about YouTube? Everything else is there, eh? There's one other movie I can't help but think about in the midst of this pending fuel turbulence....Ummmm..."Mad Max", anyone?
The Unit (2006)
The Unit Is Solid!!!
Another Shawn Ryan gem, just like "The Shield"... Dennis Haysbert is the backbone of this series, no question about it.
I almost disregarded this series when I learned it was on CBS, they have a history of canceling good or potentially good shows, like "The Fugitive" and keeping garbage, ergo, "survivor", "amazing race" "csi", etc., This is the first time since that foolhardy move to take "The Fugitive" off the air that I've watched anything on CBS, or looked forward to viewing anything they have in their programming, that's a pretty good number of years.
I hope they put this series on DVD soon (I've a feeling they won't though), I will be make it my mission to get it. Great show!!!
