Panorama: Offshore Secrets of the Rich Exposed (2017)
Exposed
Whenever you get a very wealthy person extolling the virtues of minimizing tax, then yes that draws sympathy, and why wouldn't it init. But really, this episode of Panaroma, Offshore Secrets of the Rich Exposed, pretty much highlights the double standards of the very rich who seek to minimize tax, because no-one gets rich on their own. Their businesses rely on roads and bridges and other infrastructure that everyone else paid for, and they rely on workers the rest of us paid to educate, and even those workers who attended private schools were really private schools that received generous subsidies from taxpayers init.
Mystery Diners: Deliver Us from Evil (2013)
Bella Luna Cafe
Anyway, Deliver Us from Evil is another episode from Mystery Diners, hosted by Charles Stiles, famous for mystery shopping. Anyway, Stiles and the Scooby Gang manage to swoop in and sort out the drama at Bella Luna Cafe, which to this day is operating successfully.
Christopher Meister guest stars as himself in Deliver Us from Evil.
Anyway, one dispute in Deliver Us from Evil is delivery scamming, and the firing scene got very heated with lots of swearing init. Anyway, Mystery Diners is really is what it is, not to be taken too seriously, it's a lot of fun before streaming became popular init.
Mystery Diners: Mommy Dearest (2013)
Guest starring the great niece of W.C. Fields
Mother! Should be the alternative title to Mommy Dearest, another episode from Mystery Diners, where it's alleged the manager of Gigi discriminates against young customers init. Anyway, Erika Lynn guest stars as herself, and it happens Lynn is the great niece of the legendary comedian W. C. Fields, and her father was the backup drummer for the band Genesis, so that's quite a big deal for Mystery Diners to have someone of Lynn's caliber to be part of the cast init. Anyway, when I first watched Mystery Diners I thought it was real, but over time it dawned upon me that each episode was like a professional wrestling match.
New Tricks: The Curate's Egg (2015)
Curious egg
The vicar and the curate is what The Curate's Egg is about, as we start the final season of New Tricks. So here, Ted Case (who first appeared in the season 12 opener) joins UCOS as acting head, with Sasha recovering from gunshot wound following attempt on Gerry's life in previous episode. Larry Lamb plays Ted Case. Gerry sends Steven and Dan a CD, so he keeps in touch from the USA to reassure us fans that Gerry (Dennis Waterman) lives on for sure init. Should be a Gerry spin-off with his travels around the USA to keep New Tricks alive. Tamzin Outhwaite as DCI Sasha Miller does not appear in this episode at all.
Mystery Diners: Employee of the Month (2013)
Guest starring Grant Cotter
Colombo's Italian Steakhouse is the venue for this exciting episode of Mystery Diners, and in fact the restaurant is now known as Colombo's Italian Steakhouse & Jazz Club. Anyway, I remember this episode of Mystery Diners because an employee got mercy, and in fact managed to remain employed by the Steakhouse so that's all's well that ends well rather redemptively init.
Grant Cotter appears as himself as a Mystery Diner. Cotter is a stand-up comedian and writer and he has quite a few credits on imdb, so that's encouraging to see him involved in the entertainment industry so that's good to hear.
Mystery Diners: Strange Brew (2013)
We bare beers
Newport Beach Brewing Company is the focus of Strange Brew, and I enjoyed watching Mystery Diners when I first starting watching it I think in 2016 or 2017 init. Anyway, there is quite a lot of shouting in Strange Brew, and it did seem authentic. Anyway, Newport Beach Brewing Company is still operating, so that's encouraging. Anyway, to be honest, really, Mystery Diners is what it is, and I thought it was really authentic when I first watched it, but then it kind of dawned upon me that perhaps each episode was like professional wrestling and that everything was timed to perfection to have a narrative init.
New Tricks: Breadcrumbs (2014)
Steven's new flatmate
Gerry Standing (Dennis "Minder" Waterman) shares a flat with Steve McAndrew (Denis Lawson, the uncle of Ewan McGregor) and we see Dan teaming up with an ex-copper friend Nathan (Danny Cunningham) to investigate murder of amateur sleuth Ellen Barker and travel to Minchinhampton, which is in Gloucestershire, England. So we see more of the countryside than an a typical episode of New Tricks. Also in this episode the crowded tube scenes were reminiscent of the movie The Bourne Supremacy. Anyway, I still liked the final seasons of New Tricks, although Amanda Redman was sorely missed along with the other original regulars init.
Mystery Diners: Wine on Wheels (2013)
Bootleg
Wine on Wheels features Big and Little's Restaurant, and I remember watching this ages ago and one thing I remember most was the very heated firing scene at the end. Wow, that was really something init. Anyway, I enjoyed watching Mystery Diners at first, but after some episodes I realized that each episode was kind of like professional wresting init, with a narrative, the good guys, the bad guys, the heroics of it all. Wine on Wheels was directed by Peter M. Cohen, with Penelope Biver as the logger, Emma Harris as the production coordinator, and Francisco Ortiz as the uncredited on-line assistant.
Mystery Diners: Lactose Intolerant (2013)
Guest starring Celina Glitta and Natalie Kailey
Celina Glitta and Natalie Kailey guest star in Lactose Intolerant. Celina is credited in imdb as Hot Girl #2, and Natalie is credited as Hot Girl(as a different name). Anyway, Lactose Intolerent also stars Charles Stiles, who sends in his team to sort out the mayhem at Cheesie's Pub and Grub, which to this day is still operating, so that's good to hear init. Anyway, Mystery Diners is what it is, and I thought it was really authentic at first, but then it kind of dawned upon me that perhaps each episode was like professional wrestling and that everything was timed to perfection to have a narrative init.
Mystery Diners: Too Many Cooks (2013)
All the cooks
I enjoyed reading the imdb user review by Haggerty356 about his experience on Mystery Diners, and I hope Haggerty356 can post more reviews please. Anyway, sadly the French restaurant Bistro Bordeaux will closed its doors in 2017 after seven years of business. Anyway, the owner Pascal Berthoumieux made this announcement in 2017. Anyway, I enjoyed watching Mystery Diners at first, but then I realized it was kind of like professional wrestling, with a narrative done through re-enactments, heroes, villains, even a sport of action amidst the drama, and the redemption of it all init right but still professional.
Cake Wars: Charlie Brown's All-Stars (2016)
It's Peanuts
I enjoyed watching Charlie Brown's All-Stars from Cake Wars (which I sometimes get mixed up with Cake Masters which I think was broadcast at the same time), and I'm a big fan of Peanuts, so here we have a Charlie Brown and Peanuts theme. The round two cakes were akin to the castell human tower in Catalonia, because they were really wobbling and about to come crashing down init. Anyway, I like the Cake Wars and Cake Masters and everything else to do with cake, and also I like the the fact that Lindsay Schulz, a granddaughter of Charles M Schulz, was a guest judge so that would have made Snoopy happy.
Cake Masters: Monster Truck Cake (2016)
Cake Masters Truckasaurus
Duff Goldman is a very enthusiastic and effervescent cake master and we see him and his team help out with a monster truck cake amongst other things. I like these type of cake reality shows and in fact I like Buddy Valastro's Cake Dynasty for instance. Anyway, the passion that Goldman puts into the cakes is amazing, and I would love for more episodes of Cake Masters although maybe there are too many cake shows on at the moment init. Still, Monster Truck Cake is worth watching and definitely whilst it kind of inspires me to bake a cake, I'm still struggling to get all motivated to make a cupcake init.
Mystery Diners: Getting a Leg Up (2012)
It is what it is
Anyway, when I first watched Mystery Diners maybe in 2015 or 2016, I was impressed by the drama and realism, but really, it's a fun re-enactment show. Here Mystery Diners sends in the Scooby gang to short out the shenanigans at Pips on LaBrea, which still operates to this day. The owner is Derrick Pipkin, and he appears in this episode, Getting a Leg Up. Anyway, there was one gratuitous comment when someone said a customer looks like Jackie Chan, like I guess really init. Anyway, this episode is what it is, and it's like professional wrestling, entertaining and good acting and lots and lots of drama and all init.
New Tricks: 1984 (2004)
2004 looks back to 1984
This episode of New Tricks, called 1984, debuted in 2004, so it's fascinating looking back to the year that Wham! Was on top, along with Spandau Ballet, Madonna, Fleetwood Mac and Culture Club init. Anyway, there are hints of surveillance obviously in this episode (being called 1984 what would you expect init, but thankfully the team comes together. Chike Okonkwo returns as P. C. Clark, and unfortunately his final episode is the first season episode, Talking to the Dead. Clark is written out with no explanation at all. Anyway, the early episodes of New Tricks finds its feet, and gets into stride by season three.
New Tricks: The Fame Game (2015)
Famed
The Fame Game is an entertaining episode from season 12, being the final season of New Tricks. One thing I liked about this was the world of celebrity lookalikes. Unfortunately we don't see much of DCI Sasha Miller (Tamzin Outhwaite) as she's on a course, and unfortunately there's no Strickland (Anthony Calf) as he's one of my favorite characters. Denis Lawson (who is the uncle of Ewan McGregor) plays Steve McAndrew, and Steve sells his car so he can buy his son a car.
One thing I like about New Tricks is the windy atmosphere of London and the doll house-sized semi-detached houses init right.
Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger's Drift (1997)
The start
I saw The Killings at Badger's Drift a few years ago, and it's fascinating seeing where long-running shows start and how they started. Here Selina Cadell, famous for her role in Doc Martin, plays
Phyllis Cadell, and in fact I remember Selina Cadell made another appearance in Midsomer Murders playing a different character. Anyway, this first episode debuted in 1997, so nearly 30 years ago, and Midsomer Murders goes strong init with its second Barnaby pretty much settling in. Really, 1997 was a different world back then in England and The Killings at Badger's Draft captured the English countryside and pubs well init.
Midsomer Murders: The Flying Club (2014)
Flying high
Sara Stewart, who is a familiar face in many popular television series guest stars, along with Robert Bathurst, who I first saw in Cold Feet ages ago. The Flying Club is a decent episode, with a gruesome start (as is often expected in Midsomer Murders). A few years the career of Gwilym Lee (who plays DS Charlie Nelson) exploded with his role in as the legendary guitarist Brian May in Bohemian Rhapsody. Anyway, for me I'm a fan of both Barnabys, because really we like Midsomer Murders for the comfort element, the English countryside and all. Anyway, if you're into flying then this episode is for you.
New Tricks: The Queen's Speech (2014)
It's the 80s
For those who didn't live in the 1980s, it's hard to believe that the world really was on edge, and The Queen's Speech captures the mood quite considerably, especially with the cassette tape. We have Wham! Galore, and also this episode reminded me of Threads, the devastating movie directed by Mick Jackson and released in 1984, at the height of the drama. Anyway, amidst all that, Strickland (played by Anthony Calf) contemplates being a father again, and he also attempts to bond with UCOS. Also Gerry is about to be a grandfather, so a lot is happening in The Queen's Speech. Anyway, this episode is worthy.
Midsomer Murders: The Great and the Good (2009)
Guest starring Nancy Carroll
For me, both Barnabys are fine in the lead of Midsomer Murders, although at times I found that DCI Tom Barnaby (John "Bergerac" Nettles) did sometimes mumble a bit too much, so thankfully the closed caption helped out a bit init. Anyway, here we have in The Great and the Good evidence of class divisions and a hidden webcam, so definitely candid camera to get the juices flowing init.
Nancy Carroll, who later gained fame in Father Brown, guest stars. Anyway, sure this episode doesn't rank highly amongst the loyal imdb user reviewers, but I guess any Midsomer Murders is better than none at all init.
New Tricks: The English Defence (2014)
Checkmate
The English Defence is a harrowing episode, and it also focuses on Chess. Anyway, I became a fan of New Tricks and most of the episodes were worthy, and even the later ones were worth watching although Amanda Redman was sorely missed (thankfully she later became the lead in The Good Karma Hospital which ran for four glorious, sunny seasons). Anyway, if you're into chess, then perhaps The English Defence is worth watching. One thing I didn't like was Danny Griffin's superhero powers, which was really quite embarrassing init and out of style with New Tricks, and thankfully that got shifted aside in later episodes.
Mystery Diners: Cover Charge (2014)
Robbie Rist
Sure, Mystery Diners is what it is, but I loved Cover Charge because it featured the one and only Robbie Rist, who I first saw all those years ago playing Cousin Oliver in The Brady Bunch when it was reaching the end of its famous run. Anyway, Robbie helps out to investigate missing pizza supplies at Redballs Rock and Roll Pizza, and it's a lot of fun when a Brady Bunch celebrity is involved in bringing down the scam. Anyway, I would have loved it if other Brady Bunch cast members were enlisted, but I guess one at a time. Sure, Mystery Diners is pure re-enactment but so what, it's a lot of fun.
Mystery Diners: Coupon Coup (2014)
Coupon alert
Charles Stiles became very famous hosting Mystery Diners, and here in Coupon Coup we have Charles and the Scooby Gang (Shelby and Kiel) going in to find the solution. Anyway, quite remarkably, it appears one of the staff goes surfing in the middle of a shift believe it or not.
Alison Lani is in this, along with Nicole Leanne Nelson. Sure, the episodes are re-enactments, but they are what they are, and we have to accept it for what it is. Really, it's kind of like professional wresting and there's a narrative, there are heroes, there are villains, we have the audience cheering on for what's right.
New Tricks: The Russian Cousin (2015)
The Italian Job
Steve (Denis Lawson, the uncle of Ewan McGregor) is keen to make some quid by renting his flat out to tourists as a luxury short stay venture. He thinks the tourists are Italian, but guess what, they really aren't Italian init, and guess what, they attempt to steal Steve's goods using a white van! He and two cops sort them out. Anyway, there's no Robert Strickland in this episode, and he's sorely missed. Anyway, here we are reaching the end of New Tricks and at least it ran for as long as did init. If New Tricks is ever rebooted then I nominate acclaimed actor Danny Dyer to play a leading role init.
New Tricks: Painting on Loan (2004)
Giles
Painting on Loan guest stars Anthony Head, who of course is whom I remember as Giles from Buffy, a series which is a big favorite of mine. So in this first season episode of New Tricks, Painting on Loan, Head plays the Queen's art collector with much aplomb and authenticity. Gerry has cash flow problems and reveals he was declared bankrupt so can't get a credit card. Tiggy Allen, who plays art gallery assistant, looks like Reese Witherspoon really init. Anyway, I became a fan of New Tricks around maybe eight years ago, and I like the cast chemistry and the London sights that sometimes is gritty.
New Tricks: ID Parade (2004)
New Tricks
I discovered New Tricks around eight or so years ago, and one thing I like is the chemistry between the original cast, and also the gritty London sights.
Anyway, here Pullman refers to Jack, Gerry and Brian as Stan, Ollie and Rain Man. Chike Okonkwo appears as PC Clarke and contrary to social media, his character is written out without any explanation. Brian pursues the police cell death of Anthony Kaye, which reaches its denouement in season 10 when Brian leaves under dramatic circumstances. Lourdes Faberes appears as Patricia Lee, a possible witness to the death of WPC Kate Daniels. We learn about Sandra's love life, and Gerry learns he'll be a grandfather.
